Connecting and tuning made simple

If your car stereo doesn't have RCA outputs, you can use the speaker-level inputs to hook this amp into your system  — the amplifier switches its input mode automatically when it detects the high-level signal. The amp's got a low-pass filter that lets you quickly sharpen and focus the bass to suit your car's interior, and also includes a wired remote boost that lets you control the bass from the front seat.

Features

CEA 2006 Compliant: The Pioneer GM-D9601 mono subwoofer amplifier power ratings are measured according to the Consumer Electronics Association's CEA-2006 standards. These standards allow you to accurately compare the rated power output of all CEA-2006 compliant amplifiers, even from different brands. Manufacturers who adhere to the standards can display the CEA-2006 logo on their products and packaging. CEA-2006 Specifications:

  • Power Output:
    • 500 watts x 1 at 4Ω with <1% THD+N
    • 800 watts x 1 at 2Ω with <1% THD+N
    • 1,200 watts x 1 at 1Ω with <1% THD+N
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 75 dBA

1Ω Stable: The GM-D9601 is capable of powering load impedances down to 1Ω.

Auto Turn-on: When using a high voltage speaker level input, a signal sensing circuit will automatically turn the amp on and off along with the source unit.

Controls

Gain Control: The gain control is continuously variable from 200 mV to 6.5 V.

Crossover: The low pass crossover is always engaged, and is continuously variable from 40 to 240 Hz.

Bass Boost: The bass boost circuit is variable from 0 to +18 dB, centered at 50 Hz. Adjustment is made using the included wired remote.

Wired Remote: The bass boost circuit is controlled using the included wired remote, which can be mounted within easy reach of the driver. The remote has integral flanges on both sides to mount the unit under the dash. The remote measures:

  • Width: 1.73" (2.63" including mounting tabs)
  • Height: 0.75"
  • Depth: 1.62" (2.2" including control knob and cable)

Connections

Power: The power and ground connections are set screw terminals that will accommodate up to 4-gauge wire. The included 3mm Allen wrench is used to tighten and loosen the terminals. Pioneer recommends different power and ground wire gauges based on the length of the wire:

  • 6-Gauge: up to 11' 10"
  • 4-Gauge: up to 21'

Remote Turn-on: The remote connection is a set screw terminal that will accommodate up to 8-gauge wire. The included 3mm Allen wrench is used to tighten and loosen the terminals.

Speaker Connections: There are two pair of speaker output set screw terminals, internally shorted together so it's easy to connect two subwoofers. The terminals will accommodate up to 8-gauge wire. The included 3mm Allen wrench is used to tighten and loosen the terminals.

Signal Input: The amplifier features one pair of stereo RCA inputs. If no line level signal is available, use the included speaker wire to RCA adapters.

RCA Output: One pair of preamp output jacks provide a convenient way to daisy-chain an additional amplifier without running another set of RCA cables from the front of the vehicle to the amplifier location. The output is not affected by the internal crossover.

Q
I have an 07 Toyota Camry with a factory head unit. Will I need to get a line out converter, or is there a way to avoid that and use the high level inputs? I would get this amp for a dual kicker comp r set.
[ Chase  Sep 07, 2018 ]

A
Only if the factory head unit has the outputs for it.
[ armando  Sep 20, 2018 ]
A
You can tap the factory speakers wires to provide the audio signal to the Pioneer's "speaker level inputs" (wire to RCA adapters included with the amplifier.).

Q
Hownare you guys wiring this amp for a single sub with dual voice coil? The owners manual shows that this amp is actually a 2 channel amp. The connections for a single sub and dual voice coil sub are not covered independantly in the manual. I see it shows to connect to the right channel for a single sub...is this correct for a DVC sub and will it combine both channels and utilize the full power of the amp?
[ CHRISTOPHER  Jul 26, 2018 ]
1 answer
A
Hello chris, this is just a 1 channel amp with 2 channel connection to make the wiring of 2 subs easier, but internally it is one single channel. So it depends on how you wanna do it. If you want the full RMS power if you have a dvc 2ohm sub, wire both positives on your sub together, then wire that into one of the positives on the amp, same thing with the negative run a wire from the one voice coil neg, to the other then a wire from that to one of the negatives on the amp. That will be 1200 RMS @ 1 ohm. I had this running my single Alpine type R 12, wired like stated and did perfectly fine. Just get on Google and type in wiring diagrams for how you would like to set your system up. Good luck to you, hope this was atleast a little helpful.

Q
If I have 2 12inch subs DVC 4ohms with 250 rms each what is the best hook up to get 250 rms to each speaker?
[ Anthony  Apr 25, 2018 ]
1 answer
A
You want to wire your subs to a 4 ohm load. To do this your voice coils will be wired in series, speakers wired in parallel. So wire amp+ to subA(vc1)+ to subB (vc1)+. Then wire subA (vc1) - to subA (vc2) +. Then wire subB (vc1) - to subB (vc2) +. And last wire amp - to to subA (vc2) - to subB (vc2) -. Hope this helps! (vc)=voice coil += positive, - = negative

Will this amp work with 2 Pioneer 10inch Pioneer - Shallow Series 10" Single-Voice-Coil 4-Ohm Subwoofer with Enclosed?
[ Ely  Apr 25, 2018 ]

Yes easily it powered 2 12s beautifully
[ Joshua  May 02, 2018 ]
A
I have it hooked up yo 2 12 inch pioneers so I don't see why not sounds pretty awesome too
[ jeremy  May 02, 2018 ]
A
Im assuming the sub your mentioning is the ts-sw2502s4 (2501 same power handling). These subs handle 300w each, 600w total at a 2ohm load. Just wire amp positive to sub A positive to sub B positive. And amp negative to sub A negative to sub B negative. Word of warning this amp will put out 800+watts at 2ohm. This will be slightly more power than the subs rms rating but should be ok IF GAINS ARE PROPERLY SET. If not done so you may damage the sub.
[ KURT  May 02, 2018 ]
Q
With 2 outputs for ease of wiring can i wire each 2ohm dvc sub to 1 ohm and run wires separately to each spot on the amp and get a 1ohm final impedance or will it make it a .5ohm impedance?
[ Jo828  Apr 10, 2018 ]
4 answers
A
It's the same as having one speaker. It will not drop it.
[ armando  Sep 20, 2018 ]
A
It will make it a .5 ohm impedance the two separate outputs are wired in parallel internally it is just like you only have one output but two spots for your convenience for wiring only.
[ Mark  Apr 29, 2018 ]
A
Wiring two dual voice-coil 2-ohm subs in that manner would present a 0.5-ohm load to the amp which is not recommended for the Pioneer GM-D9601 (minimum impedance is 1-ohm). For more help on selecting the right amp for your sub(s), please contact an Advisor directly by phone (888.955.6000) or online chat; they can help give you a more personalized recommendation suited to your system specs & budget. Thanks!

Check the specs on this amp and then go on the internet for a car wiring diagram. One thing I know is, the more ohms one runs, the better the sound. Check to see if this is one ohm stable, but don't go below one ohm. In fact I would go with 2 or 4 ohms. Subs sound better with higher resistance.

Q
I have a single Fosgate p3d2. How do I wire it to match the 2 ohm voice coils?
[ Jody  Mar 08, 2018 ]
3 answers
A
Sorry for a way late answer. I'm not sure if it will work you have a soeaker that is not made for that amp. If you wanted to use that you would have to get a second one and wire both. And in doing so I believe you will only get 800watts at 4ohms. I think its possible to do one at 2ohms but you will only get an out put of 500watts from this amp
[ armando  Sep 20, 2018 ]
A
This speaker has two 2 ohm voice coils. U can wire it in series to achieve 1 ohm or parallel to achieve 4. This amp can handle 1 ohm operation and in my opinion, is more responsive (punchy). I doubt this subwoofer could handle a full 1200 watts by itself for very long though. Wiring in series is when you connect the positive side of each voice coil to the negative side of the other voice coil and run your speaker wires off of on voice coil to the amp. Wiring parallel is when you wire positive to positive and negative to negative. You typically see people run each voice coil to the sub terminal on the box. Hope this helps!

So there are two speaker outputs, does that means if I run one sub to one output and another to the other, both at 4 ohm, I'll get 500 watts each speaker? Or is it cut in half!?
[ Garrett  May 17, 2017 ]
2 answers
A
At 4 ohms you will get roughly 4 to 5 hundred. At 2 ohms youll get roughly 7 to 8 and at a full 1 ohm load youll get roughly a 1000. Obviously if it wasnt bench test certified you wont know what your truely pushing.
[ BERNARD  Jun 10, 2017 ]

the amp will output about 800 watts @ a 2 ohm load. if there are 2 subs, that is approx 400 watts ea.

so i have 2 alpine SWS-10D4, that are rated at 500 RMS, and i plan on buying this amp,,,i always bridge my connections. Should i , or do i have to bridge when using this amp?, will each sub get 600 paralell?, or 600 bridged

Bridge is your best option to me, the amp will perform better. About getting 600 be aware this amp is more powerful the what you think. I'm running 4 Jvl 10 and belive me I'm not using this amp (max power). FYI I'm using my at 1AMP for better performance.

I have been using this amp for over a year and never had a problem with overheating, the bass switch works just fine for me.
[ Gage  Mar 10, 2017 ]
A
i had this amp before upgrading my amp and subs. I can say this little monster can handle what you dish to it. you can have that amp bass gain knob full tilt and the bass gain on 7 8 or 9 and you wont cook the amp at 2 ohms... at 1 ohm all bets are off most amps after continuous beating at 1 ohm will fry. but the amp is nice. I have it powering 4 8 inch subs and my Rockford fosgate are running my 4 12s at 2 ohm all full gain on the bass boost knob and 9 on the gain and stable and no clipping.
[ BERNARD  Mar 10, 2017 ]
A
IMHO: the boost remote is intended for music that is not natively bass heavy to start with. that is how I use it, have no problems. Whether it can fry the amp, I never heard of that before, but anything is possible if an amp is not properly adjusted to start with and they are playing very bass heavy music with the boost up full.
[ Geoffrey  Mar 10, 2017 ]
A
Honestly I have this amp for about a year and I have no problem with it using the remote. So far the best amp I have in long time with no prblem. Moving 4 10 jvl
[ Frank  Mar 10, 2017 ]
A
Nope in my personal experience i had one for 2 years and abused that bass boost remote and the amp was always rock solid in preformace

Q
Can I get 1200 watts x 2 out of this amp?
[ FRANCISCO A  Nov 21, 2016 ]
3 answers
A
no, it is a 1 channel amp. It is designed for driving sub woofers. The amp needs a 1 ohm load for that rating.
[ Geoffrey  Nov 22, 2016 ]
A
No. It's a 1200 watt RMS single channel
[ Jason  Nov 22, 2016 ]
A
Only way your gonna get 1200 RMS from that amp is at 1 ohm which with the design at 4 ohms you get 400 watts 2 ohms you get 800 watts and 1ohm you will get 1200 watts. But thats a rough calculation

What is a good size dround and power wire to run from my distribution blocks? Off both distribution blocks i have 0 gauge going into them.
[ Chris  Aug 17, 2016 ]

depends on the load on the amp, most car audio installers would recommend 4 AWG, but 8 AWG would work if you have it setup for 800 Watts or less.
[ Geoffrey  Aug 17, 2016 ]
A
HI Chris...honestly I'm running straight fromega the battery a # 10 going into a cap and from the cap #10 to the amp. Also from the amp ground #10 straight the chassis of my truck. The amp is working great.

4 Guage is suitable and recommended for both wires.

Just bridge it to either Chanel mine is mounted so deep for me to get too call me
[ LINDA S  May 26, 2016 ]

it does not really matter, both terminals are very likely connected together internally. (do a continuity test with a multi meter to be sure.) most mono amps are like this if two terminals are present.

How would I wire two Kicker 40CWR124 12" subwoofers too my Pioneer GM-D9601 amplifier at 1 ohm to these Subs? Also should I get the 2ohm DVC or 4ohm DVC to do this?
[ Austin  Jan 14, 2016 ]
2 answers
A
to drop your subs to 1 ohm you have to buy a 3rd sub which is 4 ohm and run the speakera in parallel. with 3 subs it starts at 4 ohms and splits to 2 subs at 2 ohms and then adding the 3rd sub would split the 2 ohm load to 1 ohm stable. but with 4 ohm voice coils the best you will get with a pair is 2 ohm.
[ BERNARD  May 26, 2016 ]
A
I'm not sure that you can. As typically, the speakers ohm rating has to match that of the amp. But I could be wrong.

Yessir. But if your doin 2 12's its up to you but I'd put a bigger sized amp to get the full potential of the subs. Might be cool but I'm powerin 2 jl audio shallow 10's with it. I had a 1700 watt hifoniks Brutus with my old truck an that had 2 shallow mount 12's alpine type Rs an probably my favorite I've had so far for shallow subs

Q
What are the speaker level inputs via supplied rca type adapters that is says is included?
[ Devin  Aug 07, 2015 ]
1 answer
A
The RCA plugs ends that came included. You can wire speaker wires to them, and plug them to the RCA inputs. The amp accepts high level and low lever inputs at the same place, and automatically determines what level is being used, and adjusts accordingly.

[ RYAN  Sep 28, 2014 ]

This is my understanding - If you are running qty(3) subs in parallel @ 1ohm, each sub will only see 400w. I don't know what wiring setup would give you 1ohm without imbalance. If you wire qty(2) 4ohm subs in parallel, it gives you 2ohms. Then you could run wires from that pair to the amp along with a single 2ohm sub, which would give you 1ohm load to the amp BUT THAT WILL NOT PRESENT AN EVEN POWER DISTRIBUTION TO ALL THREE SPEAKERS. NOT RECOMMENDED. Qty(3) 4ohm speakers in parallel with even power distribution = 1.33ohm load to the amp. This is balanced, and doesn't take the amp to its limit. This is not a huge amount of power for each driver, so you could use just about any good sub - it doesn't have to be a monster. Kicker Comp VR's will run all day long with that amount of power. There's no replacement for displacement - get the biggest subs that your available space will allow. But don't put big 15' subs in a box that's too small to support their internal volume recommendation. If you think you might reconfigure down the road, you could step up to Kicker Comp R, which handle twice the power of the Comp VR (but cost ~$50 more per driver)!

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best subs for your amp. I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the subs models and help you make the best choice for your system.

How hot does this amp get?

Short answer is, it doesn't. I have mine wired at 1 ohm load in my boat running 2 Alpine type R 12's. It's in the engine compartment of my boat, and I have played it non stop for 8 hours without any problems whatsoever.

Mine is located in the top of my sub box in the trunk of my car. The amp doesn't get very hot that I've noticed even during the heat wave we experienced of 105 heat index. I own an 08 impala so the trunk space is large and therfore dissipates the heat well if it were to get warm. I run it at 2 ohms.

not very hot at all. my setup is at 1-ohm and unless I am really pounding away, the amp hardly heats up at all. when it does heat up it does not even come close to what I would call "hot" or reach a level to be concerned about. it's a great amp for the money!
