Pioneer FH-X830BHS

The FH-X830BHS offers multiple color combinations for the display and controls.

Built-in Bluetooth®

Once you pair your phone to this Pioneer, you can answer a call with the push of a button on the receiver. Thanks to Bluetooth Wideband Speech, your conversations will be clearer and more distinct, too. The FH-X830BHS supports dual phone pairing, so more than one member of the family can enjoy the benefits at the same time. And you can stream any audio wirelessly from compatible devices to the receiver.

And Siri®, too

Got an iPhone with Siri? This versatile CD receiver supports Siri Eyes Free with your iPhone® through Bluetooth, which means you can ask Siri to make calls, select and play music, compose and hear text messages, read notifications, even use maps and get directions — all commanded by your voice.

Enjoy your music

You can plug your iPhone or Android™ phone into the front-panel USB input, then use the receiver's controls to access your music library. Plus if you're a Pandora or Spotify fan, you can take charge from the receiver from your iPhone® or Android phone. The FH-X830BHS also features App Mode, so you can play and control music from many current music apps when used with an iPhone (via USB connection). Pioneer's ARC app offers smartphone control of many receiver functions.

Radio wonderland

The built-in HD Radio tuner takes listening to your local stations to the next level. Tune into a station that broadcasts an HD Radio signal and you'll enjoy the best sound in radio, plus extra programming choices on second and third channels when available.

For some stellar variety, add a satellite radio tuner (not included, subscription required) and tap into the galaxy of music, news, sports, and talk programs offered by SiriusXM wherever you go.

13-band EQ

Whatever you're listening to, tailor the soundscape with the 13-band EQ, complete with seven preset EQ curves. The three pairs of preamp outputs let you build a rocking system with external amps and subwoofers.

I love the variations of color on this deck. It's easy to customize the exact sound you want without spending all day on it.

    Pros:

Cons: Installation was a bit tricky but that's because of the car, not the stereo.

Gifted to my girlfriend for Christmas and 2 months after installation the bluetooth connection is wonky and volume is unresponsive. Don't know if it's a system norm or part of the list of malfunctions , but automatically accepting phone calls during the golden age of junk calls is a nightmare. First time I've had a problem with a Pioneer product.

    Pros:

Cons: Dudded out 2 weeks outside of warranty.

Very happy with this headunit. Easy to navigate and reads my USB thumb drives almost perfectly. My only issues are that the remote app refuses to work with my phone at all (Samsung Galaxy S8 Active) and it seems to have problems reading the file information for my FLAC files (says "NO ARTIST, NO ALBUM, etc.") Otherwise, no issues at all.

Pros: - Looks great. - Easy to navigate user interface. - Sounds great. - Reads USB thumb drives well. - Easy to navigate file organization.

Cons: - Doesn't play well with Android phones. - Issues reading FLAC tag information.

I used this receiver when I replaced the OEM unit in my 2008 Ford Expedition. My radio reception was drastically reduced over the stock setup. I am not sure if it is the recommended antenna adapter specifically or the Pioneer head unit or the combination of both. I am researching a different antenna adapter as that is a cheaper alternative than a different head unit.

Great features! I think folks whining about the illumination have it incorrectly configured. It has an auto-dimming feature they must have enabled because its plenty bright when disabled. READ THE MANUAL! The volume knob is not as touchy as one reviewer complains about, unless you are doing 90 MPH on a dirt road it is a non-issue. It starts up in under 20 seconds, not 1-3 minutes, thats ridiculous. Bluetooth connects right away, no issues. Its just not that powerful, Im driving front 6x9's and rear 5 1/4's, just a little more wattage and this would be 5 Stars. Does not play *.aiff files, as noted in the manual, yet plays almost all iPhones and iPods. READ THE MANUAL!

    Pros: Everything but power out

    Cons: More wattage

Really disappointed in this unit. I've had it nearly a year. The display is terrible. Near impossible to see in daylight and don't even bother if you have sunglasses on. A month ago, all of a sudden, the functions changed and now my phone auto-answers. Can't figure out how to turn it off, so I came back here to see if there is a manual to try and fix it. Decided to leave this review. The one star is for how easy the installation was. The Crutchfield team was great. I had to call with a wiring question and they got me all squared away.

This unit is great. I love the way it looks and the controls are easy to use. The bluetooth is great when I am streaming my music. I connected this unit to a pair of 6x9s in the rear and 6 1/2 up front along with a set of tweeters in the dash and the sound is crisp and the bass is just right for what is there.

Pros: multi color, phone and bluetooth capability

As a whole I really love this unit, it autoconnects the Bluetooth so I don't even have to take out my phone. It really controls everything via the stereo so I can keep my eyes on the road. I have the default speakers but the base and EQ settings on this radio makes music sound amazing.

Pros: Great sound quality, auto connects to Bluetooth quickly, LED displays and color control look amazing. Easy installation.

Cons: 30 second delay to turn on after car boots up. Bluetooth sometimes won't connect automatically and says "no service" must manually turn Bluetooth on and off until it connects.

Normally I am gun ho for Pioneer and love their products but any of their stereos with this Volume/select buttons suck! The issue is when you want to turn the volume up. You have to be very careful other wise instead of turning it up you instead accidentally press down and scroll through the menu.....its so annoying in fact I am thinking about selling it and buying something else. Also there is a extremely slow delay between changing buttons and having the unit turn on upon start of vehicle; about 1-3 min sometimes. I actually thought there was something wrong with it but pioneer said this was normal.

Pros: Sound, inputs, nice FM signal

Cons: Volume Button Eq settings Slow scroll reaction between stations Does not turn on right away upon vehicle start...takes several moments. You might even be already driving

A great radio to replace my stock one. Easy to install, fit nicely in the double DIN opening of my '04 4Runner. HD Radio works great, and had no problem getting the BT to work with my Android phone. It paired up the first time, and works great with tunes or the phone. Instructions were very helpful, and the pre-wired harness saved tons of time. The front is a little glossy and as some have said makes the display hard to read, but not really an issue. Lightweight, versatile, and easy to navigate. HD radio sounds great. Functionality is easy with the double-DIN face, so there are dedicated buttons for most things you will need to do. Easy to install. Bluetooth functionality has been working well, so I have not yet even tested the hardwire AUX jack or USB connector, however it is a great bonus for those of us with 160 GB old school iPods. The only con - and I am being very nitpicky here... the Dot-Matrix style readout seems a bit dated, but you know what you get when you purhcase a non LED screen. The display button makes it easy to quickly scroll through displays if you want the clock, track info, device info, elapsed time or the visual equalizer. And, the range of colors for the display (both accent color and text) are immense, so you can easily find the right match that will look good with your dash's color palette. Also, I wouldn't call it a drawback, but maybe for a causal user (but not for a real audiophile) is the multi-band equalizer. I just haven't had the time to dig into it, but don't be surprised if you are simply looking for "Bass/Mid/Treble" adjustable levels. This deck has a fully customizable 13 band EQ. You can opt for the few standard pre-sets, but be prepared to spend some time tweaking if you want your sound fully customized. Please also make sure to connect the blue wire from the antenna adaptor to the switched power wire or your reception will be poor. That is not a "gr

The whole reason I bought this stereo was for the Bluetooth app, so we don't have to fiddle with our phones and the HD radio and neither of them really work well.

Pros: Sound is good, but yeah, they had this down decades ago.

Cons: -Bluetooth connection and app is wonky. -Spotify and pandora work with my Android phone, but is buggy with my wife's iPhone. -Calls work on my wife's iPhone but auto answer only. No calls work with my Android. ( I believe this tech has been around since the late 90's ) -HD radio constantly flips between HD and normal radio even when within a mile of the broadcast station. Impossible to listen to NPR when the audio jumps ahead a few seconds then back. ( Also not new tech )

Excellent receiver for the money--especially since the receiver came with bluetooth and we're now true hands free with our oldest car. Very happy with the purchase , and absolutely will look to Crutchfield again for our electronic needs!

Pros: Great receiver--Put this into a 2006 Honda CRV. Receiver has HD in it , and is much clearer when listening to music. Love the Bluetooth capability. The lighting adjustments on the radio are great and adjustable for day/night and anything in between. Used the prewired harness service, and saved at least an hour, well worth the money. Directions were right on, and everything fit like a glove-1 hour and 15 minute install for me.

Cons: When using hands free, a little difficult to hear (background noise) when the person calling you is on the highway at 60-65. All good though! Really had no use for the optional tools (prybar, etc.). If I had it to do over, I would skip that option.

I got this because the tuner in my Nissan Frontier was just awful. On this deck I have all of the I/O ports I had on the factor radio, and I gain an HD tuner (my favorite AM station is also available on an HD-2 channel), and I get an AM/FM tuner with superb sensitivity. I listen to both AM and FM, and it's nice to be able to hold onto a station that interests me for a longer time on a road trip. The one downside is that the control functions are not visibly obvious. I got them figured out pretty quickly, but they confound my wife.

Pros: AM & FM sensitivity is superb.

    Cons: Control layout not intuitive.

This is a great receiver for my car, 2007 scion tc, as it fits perfectly. This is a great fit also because it's an older model radio but still newer tech than what they had when my car was made. I strictly wanted it for the usb music functions, hands free calling, and hd radio. Everything works better than expected plus it only took 45 minutes to install myself. Saved money big time all around with this one.

Pros: Beautiful Easy install Great sound. All around easy functions.

Cons: It wasn't free. Takes a little getting used to all the new stuff but easy to figure out.

After searching for months for the best replacement for my Pioneer Avic-3 due to the unit not working correctly , I opted for this unit. The HD tuner and bluetooth audio features were what sold me on it. As soon as I installed it , I was impressed with the sound and visual effects of the lighting. Within in a minuet, i had already figured out the programming and working different features. I would highly recommend this unit. A nice bonus that this radio has is the severe weather advisory scans across the screen. Since installing, we had 2 Nor'easters with in a week and it worked flawlessly.

Pros: Great sounds Led light patterns gives you a nice effect to go along with the sound

Cons: When using during the day with your headlights on, the blue led is harder to see.

It's really a cool radio. Got it for my wife so she could have hands free bluetooth calls and HD radio. There are a lot of great HD stations here in DFW area. The reception is great. Being able to color change is a nice touch. Crutchfield made it easy to order and install. I had it installed less than a hour because they sent the wires and bracket with the radio. I was really impressed with the emailed instructions. Anyways the radio looks and sounds great in our 03 Explorer with original speakers!

The plastic covering the display is flat and reflective- in my car (2004 Cadillac CTS) the angle is just right for light from the rear window to reflect into my eyes. I wish they could come up with some kind of matt finish like the OEM radio. Also the display is not bright enough. To search for next station you press and hold the tuning buttons. This doesn't work well with multichannel hd stations- you have to short-press to select one of the hd stations, until you go too far and tune static. Then you long press to search for the station. I wish it would clearly indicate when an HD station is being received. As others have said- the clock should always be displayed. Everything else is good. The above points are all minor annoyances and the radio really does work well.

I have owned this radio for a little over a year at this point, and I am completely satisfied with it. It replaced a more expensive Kenwood unit that failed to live up to my expectations in my 2009 Toyota Tacoma. I since ordered and installed one of these for our other vehicle as well (a 2010 Honda CR-V EX), and love having the same great radio in both vehicles. The HD Radio in this unit receives very well, and has excellent reception even on the non-HD stations, unlike some other HD radios that underperform in analog mode. I really like the Bluetooth system in this radio, because pairing is straightforward and there are 3 status indicators always present on the display to let you know if it is connected, and whether calling profile and media profile are connected. Two phones can be connected simultaneously. Call quality is excellent, and the microphone includes a cord long enough to run up behind the A pillar and mount the mic in the headliner above the rearview mirror if you like (I did!) USB playback works great and you can use it with the Mixtrax functions to do a continuous shuffle of your music library with crossfade effects if you want (or not). BT audio mode supports the common steaming apps, but I honestly don't use these because I don't like using my phone's data. This unit still has a disc player and can read CD-Text and display artist and track information. I also like the display, which is large and easy to read. The

Pros: Easy to install, added Sirius antenna and am so happy with both the XM and the BT!

Cons: Wish display showed the time and the song/artist at the same time, but very minor complaint-I'm just a control freak who always needs to know what time it is when I'm going somewhere ;)

I had a pioneer DEH-X8500BS in my 2006 Tacoma. I couldn't easily read the displays so I decided to get this double-DIN unit. It has great sound, in my opinion, for the stock speakers. Price is good if you don't mind the negatives. Lots of colors to match your interior illumination or you can cycle through all. Looks great at night. A few things i'm not happy with: Still cant read the display during the day because of sunlight glare on the face. The letters/numbers are bigger, but still can't see them during the day. It takes longer to connect with the BT on my phone (iphone SE) than the old radio did (up to a minute, not long but longer than i'd like it to take). It also randomly disconnects, and in order to reconnect, i have to go to the phone setting to find the radio again (not pair, just connect). Finally, you can only remove a few of the connection options from the source list. I'm running SXM, HD radio and my phone but when cycling through sources, i still have to go past Pandora, USB, etc to get from one source i'm using to another. Bottom line, i wish i'd have kept the other radio. If you have nothing and are considering this, its great sound for a great price; it will be great if you're inside the arctic circle! It IS a low-end unit, which i now know. I'm in the market for another radio for another vehicle and i wont get a second one of these.

Pros: Priced well, great visuals at night

Cons: Cant see display during daylight, BT slow to connect and randomly Disconnects occasionally for no reason

I've always had good luck with Pioneer receivers going all the back to my first (used) car in the mid-80s. And this one did not disappoint. The specs say it "only" has 14 watts, but it sounds louder than that. Once you get the audio levels set how you want them, it kicks ass. I also chose to go with letting Crutchfield staff wire/solder up the harness (this option is at checkout) so really was just a matter of plug-n-play.

Pros: Great sounding unit with a ton of cool features for under 200 bucks.

Display looks great in all light conditions - no issues with the display in bright sun or other problems as reported for other brands at this price point. A fantastic option for my 99 4Runner that my teenage son will be driving before long. My first Pioneer unit and I'm very pleased. It replaced a JVC unit that also supported Bluetooth, but no HD radio tuner that I had for 5+ years. I have had the Pioneer FH-X830BHS for about two weeks so far and I think it is so much better than the stock radio in my 2010 cobalt. The Bluetooth is a huge bonus and one of the main reasons I bought it in the first place. It took me about an hour to connect the radio wire harness to the harness provided then the rest was just plugging it all in and I was good to go; it was a very easy process if you are able to solder wires. All in all I would recommend installing an aftermarket head unit in your vehicle, they look better and if you get one with HD radio that's even better.

2003 Chevy Tahoe Z71. Absolutely phenomenal service and product quality. I haven't installed stereos for almost 30 years and the install went fantastic. Directions were easy to understand. The only hitch in the giddyup was learning all the features of the new head unit. Originally I chose this unit b/c of the USB plug to play my iPhone music and handsfree calling. But the Bluetooth surprised me. Bluetooth connects within a few seconds and automatically starts playing my music. The hands free is crystal clear also. I was on the fence about the HD radio...but it is definitely worth it. This unit pulls in stations that my stock radio wouldn't pick up and mixes the digital and analog signals for excellent listening. My kids and their friends think the changing colors is "dope". I can't speak highly enough about this unit and the service. Now I'm thinking about getting new speakers!!! Steering wheel controls work perfectly. I am extremely pleased and highly recommend anything y'all sell. Lifetime customer. Thanks!

Kill the Emergency Alert System feature - dangerous distraction

I've had this radio for a couple months now and was really just understanding how to get it to pair with my iphone all of the time (hint: use the BT-audio as source and it will pair). The radio works fine for the most part. Some poor user interface design choices such as pressing in on the volume does things so when changing volume and you car bumps you've done something you don't want to do -- which should be driving not fighting the radio. Which brings me to the Emergency Alert System. I discovered this feature today. Let me tell you, I am ready to rip out this radio and return it out side of the Crutchfield 60 terms and here is why. It's raining today. I know it because I can see it and my wipers are on. It's really raining heavy somewhere 60 miles away so there is a 'Flash Flood Warning' there. So this deck changes from my podcast to the FM Radio playing classical music. Message on dots says something like 'Urgent Alert'. So I tune back to my podcast. It switches back over and over. Even if I turn down the volume and change the source, the deck changes back to FM Radio, 'Urgent Alert' and TURNS THE VOLUME back up. It does this with another station too. So what the? Shouldn't I be driving and not fighting the deck? Sure alerts are good, can't I acknowledge it? I finally had to figure out how to turn off the radio. Might as well not have one if that is the solution to the EAS mess. I say, forget this deck or any with EAS unless you get a demo because it's dangerous.

Pros: Good sound Pairs OK if are on BT Audio source otherwise good luck

Cons: Can't turn off the Emergency Alert System

For the money, this is a really nice receiver that provides the modern conveniences of bluetooth, USB input, satellite radio (receiver sold separately), and HD radio. If you have an older car that works just fine (and is paid off), but you want an update where it counts, then this is an excellent option. My one slight gripe is that I wish the display was brighter--it's somewhat difficult to read it when the sun is glaring on it. If you have steering wheel control, you can preserve this function with the proper harness. I have a 2011 Honda CRV and utilized the Crux installation harness. it was a little more expensive, but it has worked well thus far. One more thing: if you have an AUX input, you will lose its functionality. In order to preserve that, the receiver must have an AUX input in the back, but this one doesn't. Of course, this does have an AUX input on the front.

Pros: Bluetooth, USB, satellite, HD Radio

    Cons: Dim display.

So far this unit has performed to my expectations. It's hard to complain when the features for the price are this rich, but it really bugs me every time I have to scroll past the Pandora source without the ability to disable it like Spotify. This is for certain a marketing deal that Pandora paid for to keep it in front of a consumers face in the hopes they will sign up. In my case it does just the opposite. Other than that, I would prefer more buttons to select a source directly instead of scrolling through 5/6 sources to get to what I want. There is clearly enough real estate on the unit for this, but they opted for a minimalist layout instead I assume to keep the cost down. I would give it 4.5 stars if I used Pandora or could disable it in the source rotation. A bargain even with my 2 gripes.

Pros: Sound quality Features Set Price

Cons: Have to cycle through many sources instead of direct access buttons Can't disable Pandora as a source

Excellent quality, easy-to-follow instructions for home install. After connecting all the wires, everything works great except the radio. Per the instructions, the blue and white wire is only for powering an electric radio antenna, so we went with blue to blue wire. We'll have to uninstall and change the wiring in hopes that is the correct fix. Also, Bluetooth works about 98% of the time. Occasionally it will take much longer than average to connect to my phone or not connect at all even with restarting unit. Otherwise, great quality sound, volume, lights/color personalization, and still plays CDs which is great!

Pros: Sound Color Versatility Bluetooth Microphone for hands-free calling

Cons: Troubleshooting needed for radio part to work correctly and occasionally for Bluetooth connect-ability

Great after market stereo, easy to install with instructions included thru Crutchfield, with the help of Crutchfield tech advisor i was able to pick this unit to satisfy my needs, the sound is scrisp and clean with after market speakers I installed also, I love the fact that this unit is app ready with Pandora and spotify which I use alot. The only issue I have had so far is sometimes when starting my car the stereo is searching for BT connectivity and it doesn't find my iPod or phone which is already paired, but messing with the source button it will connect. Hopefully no other issues arise. Overall I'm saistfied with my purchase

Pros: App ready,HD radio, crisp sound, clean look.

For the price, i think this is a good head unit. Once I installed it, I upgraded the firmware to the latest version (8.36 as of this writing) from the Pioneer website. The Pioneer ARC app on my smartphone is a valuable tool to have for making adjustments (as well as switching sources, radio bands, and radio presets) to this unit.

Pros: Sound quality, Pioneer ARC app, built-in HD radio, ease of installation (for the most part), clean (non-gimmicky) design

Installed in July 2016. By November the lower left corner no longer illuminated. By December the USB port no longer would connect to iPhone and by Christmas no longer would charge the phone. By late March the Bluetooth was intermittent and by April BT no longer worked at all. Last week, 1st week of April 2017, the tuner will scan several times before locating an FM radio station within 50 miles of Atlanta, GA. I'm hopeful it is just a lemon and the replacement will be the quality I expect from Pioneer.

One of the best looking, easiest to use after-market radios I have ever installed (and I have bought a lot from Crutchfield over the last 30 years). Sounds great, and the installation kit was perfect, including the add-on steering wheel control adaptor. Can't wait to take some road trips with plenty of music options to choose from!

Pros: All the features work great - simple to connect to iPhone or Android. Could not tell a difference in sound quality between Bluetooth and USB.

Cons: Accidentally already made a small scratch in the screen when I was installing it, hopefully it will survive daily use!

very happy with the CD receiver so far as well as the steering wheel control adapter and other mounting/connection hardware for my 06 Tundra. I am not experienced at installing this equipment, but was willing to give it a try. I worked with a sales rep to get everything needed for the installation and it worked out perfectly. I feel the sound is better out of the box, bluetooth connected seamlessly to my phone, and following the instructions, was able to step through the settings of the receiver. I'm quite pleased.

I would have given it No stars but that wasn't an option. First what was good. The HD radio worked flawless. The CD player worked great. The remote located mike sounded great when using it for phone calls. Thats about all the good stuff. In my opinion this unit only looks mediocre. The dot matrix display looks kinda cheap. The main volume knob feels cheap. One of my main reasons for buying this unit is because of the bluetooth pairing features. Well the bluetooth on this particular unit was downright contrary. Even after successfully pairing with my iphone 6 it would repeatedly disconnect for no particular reason. Sometimes when I would start the truck it would hook right up and start playing music. Other times I had to push several series of buttons in the menu to plead with it to pair up again. Sometimes one step through the menu would work. Other times I would have to go through a different menu to get it to pair. About as user UNfriendly as I could imagine. I was running this unit with separate amps for the sub and the mains. About every 3 or 4 days when I would start the truck up only the subwoofer would work. The rca pre outs for the main speakers would fail to feed the signal to the amp. If you turned the unit off and back on it would remedy the situation. I found the menus to be cumbersome, not good. Eventually the bluetooth bit the dust completely and I have to pay to ship this back for repair. Im not really optimistic about this unit

Pros: Great HD radio tuner. Great CD player. Bluetooth phone calls sound great

Cons: Dot matrix display looks cheap Complicated user interface. Finicky and short lived bluetooth died an early death RCA pre outs failed intermittenly

I Have had two previous pioneer PREMIER cd receivers and LOVED them. Including the one replaced by this very mediocre head unit. The only reason I replaced it was to have bluetooth and HD radio. I think I would rather have better sound and functionality. I am still considering returning it. As far as tech goes, bluetooth and HD radio are the ONLY upgrades. I know that car stereo receivers are no longer a trend or money making market based on the fact that you CANNOT install them in pretty much any newer car but they should still be better than years past. The user interface is sub par. The display is hard to read and older tech than my previous one which had a beautiful, clear, easy to read in any light POLED display. Why are those no longer available? I prefer that to a color customizeable CRAPPY display any day. And then the sound: No matter how much I play with the settings, and I know what and how to do that btw, It just doesn't sound NEARLY as good as my previous pioneer. I guess they just don't make 'em like they used to........ Considering the only few options left on the market which are NOT much better in any way. You give a little, you take a little..... Either buy an OLDER one used or don't bother.

    Pros: HD radio, Bluetooth

Cons: Everything else is worse than my 8 year old receiver.

Excellent unit. Looks fantastic. Everything works well including the auto-dimming that is connected with the car's dashboard lights. Sound is a major improvement over a factory unit. HD radio and Sirius XM work really well and the unit will even display the signal strength for both which is nice. The bluetooth has worked flawlessly and phone calls are crystal clear from both ends. Bluetooth audio also worked great. Just make sure you take the time to position the microphone properly. We have not tried the CD player and probably never will. We have not tried connection with USB either.

I have a 2008 Mazda 5 as a third vehicle that I rarely use, but when I do, I'm in it for 4+ hours. After a frustrating time with a GROM USB3 that used the factory headunit ( wouldn't always work, would stop working, etc.) I decided to upgrade the headunit. I was a bit daunted by the task, since the last headunit I did was in a 2001 Ford Focus and the Mazdas unit is all in one with the dash. I'm not into customization, but I wanted to get more enjoyment out of my car but without breaking the bank. I This FHX830BHS had many things I wanted: Bluetooth (since the vehicle had it from the factory) HD Radio (I'm an avid NPR listener) as well as a CD player and Ipod integration. I already had upgraded the 6x8's to Pioneer TS-6885 4 ways, so I decided to stick with Pioneer. I picked this unit up open box and saved some money that way. Unit and installation stuff for under $250? Sold. I'm impressed with the sound. I've been told I have a musical ear, but I'm not an out and out audiophile. But with the extra power, the music has really come alive. I really wish I had done this sooner now! The menus are a bit of a pain to deal with, but once you read the manual and get used to how it works, it's not so bad. Yes, a touchscreen or LED screen would make it easier, but at this price point, it was a reasonable trade-off. Besides, the car is an 08, this is more in line with how a 2008 instrument panel looked! Great value and sound for little money, if you

Pros: Extra power, better sound over factory Adjustable illumination to match factory look Bluetooth, HD Radio, CD player and Ipod all in one unit.

Cons: Menu system can be annoying If you want a "pretty" LED screen, look elsewhere. Fingerprints show easily on headunit

Very happy with this radio. Installed it in my 1991 Honda Accord. The HD radio is nice to have and the controls are fairly simple and easy to use. Sounds great with my JBL club speakers. My one ding on the system is there's no bass/treble adjust dedicated button and the going through the menu system to adjust the equalizer is a bit tedious. Otherwise, I'm happy. My teens who thought my '91 Accord was uncool, now want to ride in it all the time.

Pros: - Features, sound, easy to read display.

Cons: - Menu system takes some getting used to. - Need dedicated buttons for bass and treble. - Would like to have the main dial be able to control volume and tune the radio, not just the volume/menu.

I have a 2003 Toyota Tacoma, I installed this new stereo to replace my stock Toyota radio. Take a few hours to remove trim and old radio and finish new install but everything went according to the instructions. The only note that is not clear, is that you have to use the replacement screws for mounting the OEM bracket to the stereo not the original bracket screws. Very happy with my purchase, it looks great in the dash with no additional trim required. The wiring harness provided made it extremely simple to make the changeout. The Bluetooth works great with my iPhone and my iPod and still learning all the additional features this stereo provides over the stock radio. Sounds much better than OEM at an affordable price. Thanks to Crutchfield for the advise on my purchase. Enjoying my ride even better!

Even with the factory speakers, there is a noticeable improvement in sound quality: clarity, fullness, and dynamics are definitely better than my OEM unit. My listening is all at low/moderate volumes so I don't feel any urgent need to upgrade the speakers or add an amp. Picked this model for the HD Radio, which works pretty well (no way would I ever pay for satellite radio again), and the front USB plug which lets you play tunes off a flash drive. Just make sure you (gasp!) read the Pioneer owner's manual and allow at least an hour to properly set up the audio settings, and especially the "Illumination" settings. Pioneer in both their car and home receivers are not paragons of intuitive user interfaces, so yes a certain learning curve is to be expected. It's not impossible though, and once you figure it out you can just set it and forget it. Not that big a deal given their excellent bang for the buck. 2 Tips: instead of the default "Scan" Illumination mode, pick the fixed "Turquoise" color and max out the brightness) but not too blindingly bright at night...set it to dim by the CLOCK not by the headlights if you sometimes like to turn on your headlights during the day for safety reasons like I do. And beware the extra blue wire on the antenna adapter (google it)! Kudos to Crutchfield customer service for sending me a replacement unit pronto since the first one had a defective screen. Awesome integrity, so rare these days. They definitely won me over as

Pros: - HD Radio works pretty well - front USB and auxilary inputs - bigger buttons and display than single-DIN models - Crutchfield customer service was top-notch!

Cons: - 2v pre-amp output not great if you want to add an amp later - ZERO instructions about the infamous blue cable on the antenna adapter, had to call in during my installation - User Interface could be a lot more intuitive

I totally agree with: "Ugly/cheap looking LED graphics totally unreadable ... and has a rainbow effect w/polarized sunglasses. EQ was impossible & dangerous to adjust while in motion. If it had simple bass/mid/treble it would be better" to customize for my listening preference. Had to go back to the installer for initial set up since I am an older consumer. Watching the very experienced installer set up the adjustments made me also agree with the other reviewer who said: "having such a convoluted OS/UX/UI is inexcusable. I found myself constantly going back to the manual for the simplest things..." Seeing the review "... does not allow you to use the USB port once you pair a Bluetooth enabled phone" confirms that this is not the right unit for me.

Just some background about me, I've stuck with JVC products for a long time, and I use Yamaha in my home. I'm not an audio equipment critic, but I've used quite a few different brands of audio equipment. I listen to lots of different styles of music but I mostly like rock and electronic music. For this particular application, I feel this head unit was a perfect choice. I installed this in my 2003 Ford Mustang Mach 1. It came with the Mach audio system, which has amplifiers, a subwoofer, front component speakers, and rear speakers. It sounded pretty good as it was, factory, but I really wanted bluetooth capability, HD Radio and MP3 CD options. I also like the look of this unit in my car. I kind of didn't want to take away from the simplicity of the dash in this car by adding a touch screen unit, and also didn't want to spend a whole lot of money. It just so happens, that since the main control knob is centered on the unit and at the bottom, it is perfectly placed for my hand to rest on the shifter and operate the knob. To me, it has a sort of old school look to it also. The other really impressive feature is the built-in crossover. This really allowed me to tune the factory speakers to sound very good! I also like the ability to change the color of the display and the spectrum analyzer is pretty cool, too! The build quality seems quite good and I am very happy with it!

Pros: Great sound, great looks, great function.

Very nice HU. Immediate improvement of sound even with factory speakers. A great deal of adjustments available which helps you get the sound right. The reason I picked it over more powerful units is that it has everything: HD radio, front USB and aux (no need to figure out how to reconnect car USB/aux), double Din, double phone BT connection can play FLAC thru USB. Never had a problem with BT. The screen is a little reflective so it makes it harder to see but not a deal breaker by any stretch. With Axxess adapter all steering wheel controls work well except pulling up phone speed dials (maybe I should have tried to program that button manually) in any case it is not an issue as the phone button on the unit is easily accessible. Was able to drive JL C2 350x very well (great sounding speakers), but weak with JL 6x9 speakers (C2 690tx needed an amp). Radio reception good but not great.

Pros: Great sound and adjustablity, front USB/AUX, HD radio. Good price for what you get

Cons: 14 w RMS/ 2V preouts (wish it was 18 or 22 watts even if it was $40-50 more expensive), plastic looks a little cheap (but again trying to keep cost down, can't complain). Overall very happy with the unit, and I still cannot find another unit I would have picked over this

Already replaced after a couple of weeks! User has to back out of every function to return to main screen because unit doesn't automatically default back on its own. Sound quality was good. Ugly/cheap looking LED graphics totally unreadable w/top down in my Jeep and does a rainbow effect w/polarized sunglasses. EQ was impossible & dangerous to adjust while in motion. If it had simple bass/mid/treble it would be better for my listening (I tend to like my music flat). Black plastic face scratched really easily and is terrible for a convertible or anything that attracts dirt. Buttons are clear plastic and unit looked old after only a couple of weeks of use because of the scratched/scuffs and finger prints. HD radio/Sirius sound quality was excellent. Never had it long enough to play a CD in it. Replaced with a JL Audio marine grade head-unit.

If you're in the market for a head unit that a) is double-din, b) has HD radio, blue tooth, USB memory, etc., and c) has a simple, flat, non-gaudy faceplate, this is your best bet. Obviously sounds great compared to the factory radio it replaced, and the controls are easy and intuitive. May not *quite* match the specs (on paper) of some of the others in its price range for wattage, etc., but I can't imagine that anyone looking at this unit to replace a factory radio is going to hear any difference at all.

The HD radio clarity is very impressive. And, as others have mentioned, this stereo may make your current speakers sound so much better, you won't want to replace them. I had never installed a stereo before and found it fairly easy to put one of these into my 2002 Honda Accord as well as my son's 2004 Toyota Highlander. The only item that is not easy it the corded phone microphone, which runs from the back of the stereo. If hands-free calling is a big priority, you may want to check out the stereos with the built in mics for an easier install.

Pros: HD Radio Relatively simple controls

Cons: Phone mic can be tricky to run through dash

    Nice Unit

I wanted to compare regular FM with HD FM but this unit does not allow me to select regular FM if the station is broadcasting in HD. And I don't hear significant improvement of HD FM over regular FM. In fact Sirius sounds better than FM HD. AM HD still sounds like AM. I like the rolling display which shows me the track info and also on sat radio. Sounds louder than the stock 2003 Honda CRV unit but does not seem to be as loud as the claimed 50 x 4 watts max power. I like the several equalizer presets but it's not easily adjusted when driving. I gave it 4 stars for the hard to read display in bright light and I wished it had a few more buttons for easier access to commonly used functions. The unit looks great and fits nicely with the supplied installation kit. I'm able to use sat radio just by placing the antenna on my dash. Installation was pretty straightforward. The hardest part was running the antenna satellite and mic cables from behind the unit because it was a very tight squeeze in my 2003 CRV. I also had to reuse the existing radio brackets from the factory stereo in order to install this unit.

Pros: 1. Sat radio, USB, CD, MP3 playback 2. Pairs well with iphone 5. Picks up and hangs up calls automatically. 3. Basically free sat tuner with 3 months subs. after rebate. 4. AAC playback. 5. Units remembers last track played on CD. 6. Unit dims when headlights on. 7. Great deal from Crutchfield with all accessories. I love the recommended twist-on splice connectors. 8. Pre-amp and sub 9. Crutchfield support as usual was very helpful.

Cons: 1. Display is too dim -other than yellow text useless 2. Using nav on iphone disables speakerphone as well as the unit audio when paired. 3. Only 6 presets for satellite. 4. Has only 3 FM HD bands instead of 4. 5. Inadequate manual. 6. Navigating the menu for accessing all the features.

The Pioneer does not allow you to use the USB port once you pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the HU. So if you want to use the HU for phone calls and plug in an iPod for music listening, this is not the device for you.

Pros: Display, phone paring and use were all excellent.

I'd give this deck more stars if the user experience (OS/UX/UI) was not so un intuitive. In today's digital world where my 2 year old was already getting around on my iPhone without any coaching at all or a manual, having such a convoluted OS/UX/UI is inexcusable. I found myself constantly going back to the manual for the simplest things such as turning the unit on/off (it's the Source button), switching between AM and FM, etc.. This is the weakest part of the deck. Otherwise, its auto synch with my iPhone works seamlessly, Sirius calling is seamless, answering/making calls works great, HD AM radio is a treat, the CD player doesn't skip no matter how hard the bumps, sounds great, lots of EQ options and more. If the user experience (UX) was designed in a more intuitive fashion, I'd easily give the deck 5 stars out of 5. But having to constantly dig through a manual for the simplest things in today's world is inexcusable.

Recently purchased the stereo to replace the factory unit in my 1999 Honda Accord. I was looking for a double DIN unit that would pair with my iPhone to play audio via Bluetooth, so I could listen to something other than are crappy local stations or advertisements all the time. I've had the stereo about a month so far. It does exactly what I was hoping for. It pairs quickly and reliably assuming I have my bluetooth on on my phone. I can answer or make calls across the system, listen to and perform basic controls for Slacker Radio or Pandora. Basically any audio on the phone now is available over the cars speakers. The display and functions take a little getting used to at first, but once you dial in what you like and use, it's pretty easy to use. I like the look of the unit installed and the sound is a nice improvement even over my factory speakers. Installion was pretty straight forward after watching a you tube video for removing my factory unit. I purchased the wiring harness kit and the screw together wire connectors for Cruthfield. They both were well worth it and made the install faster and easier I'd recommend and purchase the stereo again for sure.

Pros: Pairs quickly and reliably with iPhone 6s. Looks and sounds great. Controls area relatively easy to use once you figure them out. I like all the display options to customize to your liking. Sound is improved even over factory speakers.

Cons: Kind of petty, but CD release seems a bit slower than my factory unit and the eject button could be a little bigger to make it easier to press while driving.

Pros: Great value; easy to install and the use of Pioneer's ARC app makes operation a bit easier. Crutchfield instructions were of great help and took the majority of guess work out of the install. Perfect for what i needed/wanted.

Cons: Pioneer does not explain what all the features are in any detail. Pretty much "function-setting" vs function description and the result of a setting. There are many features that will be set once and they are not explained very well. Navigating the menu tree is not the most intuitive, forgiving or easy to comprehend

I bought this Pioneer to replace the original radio/CD changer in my 2003 Subaru Forrester. What I was mainly interested in was the blue tooth capability for phone calls and streaming music from my iphone. Well. Let me tell you - this thing has exceeded my expectations! The BT functionality is excellent. It consistently connects to my phone within 30 seconds of starting the car. Calls come through clearly through the stereo speakers, and callers can hear me clearly. I was a bit concerned about having to install an external mic (not build into the unit) but I was able to easily route the wire under the dashboard, along the side and up the window/door pillar so the mic can clip onto the visor (Looked at the Blaupunkt which has a built in mic, but was concerned about the noise/clarity from that one). As for sound - I originally paired this with some pioneer door speakers (Pioneer TS-A1676R). I figured why just replace the head unit? BUT - this unit actually works better with the OLD speakers (better sound) than the new ones (not the fault of the head unit). Unit has a very cool display - hundreds of colors to choose from, plus strobe and fade effects. Kind of easy to use (had to consult the manual to figure out how to turn it off! Press and hold the SRC button). GET THE PIONEER APP - phone app can control ALL features seamlessly. Excellent EQ/sound adjustment abilities on the app.

Pros: Easy to install (2003 Forrester) Fantastic sound adjustment capabilities Made the stock speakers sound awesome Cool looking, very customizable BT phone is fantastic

Cons: Why put pandora app on the radio head unit? Useless for me Push and hold the Source button to turn it off?? Weird. Sometimes hard to read the display in direct sunlight

The sound is outstanding, blows away my Toyo Tacoma factory radio and the features are perfect. I do not think it's controls are difficult to maneuver as some reviews here state. In two days I had mastered all it's features, truly loving this unit. Only thing I wished this system (and many other systems) had is a battery to back up presets and other settings when the battery is disconnected.

Purchased for a 2002 F-150 to replace the factory unit. Crutchfield provided all the add on kits and harnesses to make installation as easy as possible. Wired up the harness before hand and after the required dash modification, it plugged and and slid in beautifully. Sounds great even with the old factory speakers (putting in Crutchfield sold Pioneer Speaker in a few weeks). Works great with Bluetooth and Auxiliary input and great sound out of the CD player. As always with Pioneer (anybody remember the Pioneer Supertuner III in the 80s?) , the radio tuner is excellent and with HD the reception is amazing. Getting OKC stations in Tulsa clear, when the signal usually stops 30 miles SW of town on most radios. Best feature is putting Bluetooth hands free calling into this older truck. Called a few people on it and they said the sound thru the Pioneer provided mic was great. Much better than factory bluetooth mics in Fords or GMs, and able to hear everybody in the truck, not just the driver. Could not beat the price for the features. This is the Head Unit to have if you don't want DVD and touch screen stuff. For a solid, clean, great sounding HD Radio, CD, USB, Bluetooth unit, this is the way to go.

Pros: Great HD Radio Reception. Excellent BT Phone mic clarity. Easy to operate. USB plug right on the face to plug in a USB Key or phone for instant music. BT found my phone in seconds with great audio over BT. Good speaker power and clarity. Excellent value for the money!

Cons: When display goes to reds or light blues it can be a hard to read during in bright sunlight. I just set it to white for the daytime.

When ordering online I was not aware of anything that would stand out. Having not purchased a radio in years I was sceptical on any positive features. Shipping was on time and product was well protected from any damage that may take place during gdound shipping. All instructions on removal and install were included with purchase and were very helpfull. There was not any doubt on the ability to complete.the install without any problems. A. complete set of wire harnesses were included as well. Installation was a breeze and took less than an hour to complete. Instruction were easy to understand and operation of the unit didnt take long to get used to. Quality of the sound was impressive and the factory speakers really came alive. I was going to purchase a set of 4 new speakers but waited to see how the new radio was going to sound first. Unless you require massive bass and rumble there is no reason to spend on a new set. All funtions performed on the unit were flawless and I am very impressed with the overall layout of the buttons and quality. I just wish I didn't wait so many year to finally decide fo switch out that old factory radio. HD radio was my main reason for getting this and everthing else was a bonus. I could be more pleased with choosing Pioneer and my wife and son drive the truck more often now that there is a new sysrem in place.

Pros: Easy install, instructions, sound quality, ease of use, looks, all features, expandable sound if desired, illumination choices, and easy remote control.

Radio and adapter kit are very complete, other than splice connectors. Great sound; looks great.

    Pros: Fits perfectly; great sound.

Cons: Using the radio should be easier than it is. The earmark of a well designed product is that you can use it out of the box without reading the instructions. You will have to read the instructions several times to use this radio. Be extremely cautious with the antenna adapter. The center of the coax is very fine and it is possible to bend it making a connection. I felt it was prudent to countersink the car end female plug to guide the wire in if it was slightly off center.

I purchased the Pioneer FH-X830BHS to upgrade from my factory HU (08 Honda Ridgeline) that had no auxiliary port nor bluetooth connection. I paired it with 4 new Kenwood KFC-1665S, and two Rockford Fosgate Prime R1T-S. The sound is obviously quite a bit better. CD sounds great and the bluetooth connection appears to be as good as the other reviews I've read, which is excellent. The radio reception, after figuring out the appropriate wiring is the most disappointing aspect, though that may be more related to the Ridgeline, than the headunit. The controls are a bit convoluted, but with practice they are becoming easier. The bluetooth connectivity has been great as has its connection to Spotify and Poweramp from my Samsung S6 and Galaxy Tab S. Being able see my contacts on HU display and setting quick dials is also a nice feature.

    Pros: Affordable. Great Bluetooth connection.

Cons: The learning curve for finding all the features and connections is a challenge and the owners manual information is a bit wanting.

I bought this to upgrade my truck with BT and it works great. It syncs with my phone no problem and the display is easy to read and see in the bright light. ( I am using a green color). The HD radio is easy to use and the reception has been very good. I replaced a Sony stereo and this one is much better. If there was one thing i would like to change is the the 1980s computer game look of the display. It would look better if the icons on the display were more modern looking but it works great. The Pioneer instruction book needs to have more descriptions of how things work. Audio has "network" and "standard" but did not explain the difference, i had to look it up on the internet.

Pros: Easy to use; sounds great; BT works good; HD is easy to select

Cons: Vintage looking display; Pioneer owners manual needs more descriptions but the internet makes up for that.

I bought this after originally purchasing a Kenwood single DIN HD receiver. I just couldn't live with the dim Kenwood display in daylight. I consider this Pioneer to be better, both in terms of actual brightness (small improvement) and the size of the display. I also wanted the double DIN form factor just for the ease of use with the larger buttons. I'm not interested in the flashy graphics, but I do like that I can customize colors for readability. I do wish the dimming feature was a little easier to use manually. I'm still trying to work out the Illumination sync feature to see if I can get it to dim automatically with my lights. The manual was not very helpful, and at this point in time, this model is a little to new to have many videos or hints online. But the Crutchfield support team has been great. Bluetooth connection to my iPhone works well - a little too well. It auto connects every time I get in the car, and if the receiver function is on iPod or BT Audio, it will automatically start playing music from my phone. If I was playing something from Pandora, it auto plays that. I'm not sure I understand why it has so many ways to play music from the phone, it seems like it will play anything from the phone in any of the the bluetooth modes. Phone calls also work well from the phone. I assume the Aux port works as expected, but I haven't had need for it yet. The USB port works as expected.

Pros: HD Radio reception is great Bluetooth works well in any mode, Pandora, Amazon Music, playing my music collection, and phone calls Display is better than Kenwood (to my eyes) and double DIN gives larger display Buttons larger than single DIN, easy to use Sounds great

Cons: I wish the display was brighter

after spending about a week with the unit, I send it back and upgrade, the unit sounds real good but is very hard to use. Unfortunately Pioneer is focusing on bling colors but nothing else. it is very complicated to learn the features and use. I bought it manly to control my Ipod and for the BT. the Ipod control worked for 2 days and then it stopped. Bt was on and off all the time... what I really didn't like is the fact that you have to go step by step to change input and you can't delete ones you don't need. I tried to reset the unit to see why the Ipod control stopped but it didn't help. all in all, I really tried to love this unit but...:(

Pros: sound quality. look good. HD radio is great.

Cons: very hard to navigate. too many flashing colors. some features stopped working after couple of days.

As an installer for 8 yrs (1998 -2006) it always bothered me that headunits are so hard to use with a small buttons, bright lights and terrible displays. This Pioneer unit though has a large volume knob, is rather plain and the controls are laid out nicely. Compared to other units it is rather dull, but for most people this is a good thing. The headunit does not scream aftermarket. Bluetooth works nicely as does the handsfree operation. The display could be a bit more robust but all things considered it is a nice unit.

Good quality stereo, I had a stock deck in my 2011 Mazda2, I wasn't sure if this would be a good fit due to how big the stock Mazda stereo was. I was very pleased at how well the new pioneer stereo fit, in addition the blue tooth is great, it has great technology, and sound is way better than my stock stereo. The display is great, but for a 42 year old I must say that at times the features can be a little overwhelming.

Pros: Good quality, good display, has many features, and blue tooth works great!

Cons: Available, features can be confusing at times.

It's been quite awhile since I installed a head unit but this model was a piece of cake. Of course I had also purchased an installation kit. This unit operates much better than my GMC OEM equipment, it easily connects to any of the phones used within the vehicle. The sound and features are exactly what I was looking for.

Pros: Sound quality is great, ability to change colors to match interior. Ability to utilize apps such as Pandora and Spotify and display the information on the screen as well as thumbs up or down is a great feature for me, thesefeatures dwarf GM's infotainment in my GMC Sierra. Affordble!

Cons: I wish it had an SDcard slot but I knew that when purchasing it. I really can't think of a con that I couldn't have taken care of by purchasing the next model up.

Replaced the stock radio in our 2006 Odyssey with this unit. It's loaded with features, and my wife loved it......except that the FM stations didn't seem to come in as well as the OEM radio. If there's one thing you learn from this review it's this: the antenna adapter (for the Ody, and possibly your car) has a blue wire for a "power antenna". Well, I don't have one of those, so I left it dangling. My wife wasn't happy with the poor reception, and I was actually considering returning the radio. After some googling, I learned that other people had similar problems with "the blue wire", and this isn't unique to this head unit or car. Turns out that my Ody has a powered antenna module and needs 12V. I hooked the blue wire up to the "switched" power lead (red wire), and now it sounds awesome!! Nothing in the Crutchfield documentation, head unit manual, or harness adapter kit told me what to do with that blue wire. There, you're welcome : ) All said, this is a great unit, and we're very happy with it!

Pros: Packed with features, sound quality is very impressive.

Cons: Like many head units, it will take some time and effort to understand all the menus and options. This is only a con to me because I like things to be on the simpler side. If you like settings and options, this could easily be a "pro"

I'd not have even attempted to install it if didn't know that Crutchfield would assist me, and they did helped me with the wiring via phone. The system itself is working wonderfully. It pairs with my iphone seamlessly and effortlessly. The I think it sounds better than my factory system. My went on a Chevy Colorado and it really was very easy.

Pros: display, screen, easy navigation, pairing with iphone, front aux ports.

Cons: radio memory preset buttons could be a little bigger for ease of use and less distraction from the driving itself, but even there this system is better than most.

Really happy with this unit. The blue tooth phone is awesome. It all works great.. It looks good and sounds good. I also installed the pac-swi cp5 so the factory steering wheel controls would work. This also works great.

Pros: System works great. Crutchfield support is great. The blue tooth phone works great. I didn't think I would even use this feature. But I plugged the microphone in the back and played around with it. Now I use it all the time. It even stored my phone book in the unit. Is easy to use.

Cons: Really hard to install only because Acura covered up the old radio with the center console and bezel around gauges. Both of these had to be removed to get the old radio out and install the new one. Most vehicles will not be hard at all compared to mine. But was worth it. It Looks good, and sounds good.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth 3.0: The Pioneer FH-X830BHS is equipped with built-in Bluetooth (ver. 3.0), allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.6 (Hands Free Profile), PBAB 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.3 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.5 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Pioneer FH-X830BHS.

Multi-Device Pairing w/ Dual Phone Connection: Up to 3 Bluetooth-compatible devices can be paired to this receiver. You are even able to keep two Bluetooth-enabled phones connected at the same time, so you can make and receive calls from either phone through the head unit. You can only stream music from one phone at a time; you will be able switch between the two phones in the head unit's menu. Additional pairing features include -

    • SSP (Simple Secure Pairing: With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the FH-X830BHS without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings (your phone must also support SSP).
    • USB Pairing for iPhone: You can also pair your Apple iPhone (iOS 5.0+) by simply connecting it to the Pioneer head unit via USB and following a single prompt on the head unit's display.
    • Guest Mode: "Guest Mode" allows you to add and replace a 3rd mobile device instantly to the receiver; Guest Mode is a great feature for a family vehicle with multiple drivers or a driver with multiple devices because it allows users to pair and delete devices easily without a lengthy registration or deletion process.
Note: Once a Bluetooth device is paired & connected to the receiver, the unit's USB source cannot be selected.

Hands-Free Communication (w/ External Mic): The FH-X830BHS supports wireless hands-free communication (HFP/PBAB) for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. And, thanks to the latest Hands-Free Profile (HFP 1.6) with wideband speech capability, the FH-X830BHS provides more natural sound quality and details during wireless calls. The head unit will display the caller's information and an audible ring tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker during an incoming call. You can manually answer an incoming call or have the unit automatically answer the call. The FH-X830BHS allows you to carry on a phone conversation from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone using the head unit's external microphone and your car audio speakers. During a conversation you can adjust the volume, as well as switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode. Using the FH-X830BHS, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:

    • Phone Book: The phone book in your Bluetooth enabled cellular phone will be transferred automatically when the phone is paired to this unit. After finding the number you want to call in the phone book from the head unit, you can select the entry and make the call. If a lot of numbers are registered in the phone book, you can search for a phone number by the contact person's name alphabetically.
    • Presets: You can easily store up to six phone numbers as presets for speed dialing.
    • Call Log: The most recent calls dialed, received, and missed are stored in memory. You can browse them and call numbers from these lists.
    • Voice Dialing (Siri & Google Voice): When paired and connected with an iPhone 4S or later via Bluetooth, the Pioneer head unit has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel controls and external microphone. It also supports Google Voice for select Android smartphones (not compatible with Samsung "S Voice"). You'll be able to dial a phone number or contact via voice command.
Note: The external microphone provides better performance in noisy environments than the integrated microphone found on the front-panel of many aftermarket or factory radios. The microphone features a 13' cord that plugs into the back of the radio, and comes with an adjustable visor-mount clip. The microphone measures 0.475" (diameter) x 1.445" (depth). The unit is not equipped with an integrated microphone.

Wireless Audio Streaming (w/ Advanced Music Navigation): The Pioneer FH-X830BHS also supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth enabled audio player or smartphone. The head unit can stream music stored on your Bluetooth enabled device or music apps you have downloaded on your device. In addition to basic playback functions (Play/Pause, FF/RW, Skip, Random/Repeat), the FH-X830BHS lets you browse your stored music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, etc. (AVRCP 1.4+ phones only). The head unit will also display your music's song information; such as Artist name and Song/Album title (app must also support). When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call.

Siri Eyes-Free Control: When paired and connected with an iPhone with Siri via Bluetooth (not USB), the Pioneer FH-X830BHS has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel controls and external microphone. Simply press and hold head unit's phone key to engage Siri and use the included microphone to communicate with Siri. Siri's voice will heard through your vehicle's speakers. All Siri functions including hands-free calling, music search, setting reminders, text-messaging, audible navigation, and more can be done through the FH-X830BHS and its microphone. You can even ask Siri to get directions to a destination and the turn-by-turn instructions will heard through your vehicle's speakers, while the on-screen map still displays on your iPhone with Siri. The head unit's audio is attenuated while Siri provides audible directions.

Note: The head unit's front-panel LCD will only display hands-free calling and Bluetooth audio information (all other functions of Siri are only audible through the Pioneer CD receiver; visual data will still need to be viewed from your iPhone device).

    Android & iPhone Integration

Android Direct Connect via USB: The Pioneer FH-X830BHS enables playback of stored music and music apps on select Android devices through its front-panel USB port. There are two types of modes to choose from based on your type of Android smartphone and what content you want to listen to.

    • AOA 2.0 (Stored Music & Music Apps): The Pioneer FH-X830BHS supports Android Open Accessory 2.0 (AOA 2.0), which lets you connect your Android smartphone (OS 4.1+) to the FH-X830BHS's front-panel USB port and listen to stored music and select music apps from your Android device through the Pioneer receiver. You'll be able to control basic playback functions such as Play/Pause and Previous/Next Track. Other advanced music navigation will still be done from your Android smartphone's touchscreen. In this mode, the head unit will not display song/artist information; you'll continue to view song/artist information from the Android device's touchscreen. You'll still be able to access other functions and applications from your Android smartphone's touchscreen, while listening to music through the head unit. If you make a call or answer a call from your smartphone while listening to music in this mode, the music will pause until you are finished with the call and then start back up again.
    • MTP (Stored Music w/ Song/Artist Info): The FH-X830BHS also supports MTP for playback & control of stored MP3/WMA music files on your Android (OS 4.0+) device through the Pioneer receiver's front-panel USB port. In this mode, you get basic playback control (like Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track), plus song/artist information on the receiver's LCD screen. During MTP connection, you cannot use your Android smartphone's touchscreen to control music playback and you cannot select music apps from your smartphone for playback. However, you can continue to listen to stored music on your Android smartphone through the head unit while you check your Calendar, Facebook, Texts, etc on your phone.
Note: You will need to setup Android connectivity within the head unit's menu. Select "Memory" for MTP mode and "App Control" for AOA 2.0 mode.

iPod Direct Connect via USB: The Pioneer FH-X830BHS supports audio playback of stored music & music apps on your Apple iPod/iPhone, along with control and song/artist information display through its front-panel USB port. If you have a newer iPod/iPhone with the Lightning-connector, you can use Pioneer's Lightning-to-USB cable (130CDIU52, sold separately) or the Lightning-to-USB cable that came with your Apple device to connect your iPod/iPhone to the FH-X830BHS. If you have an older iPod/iPhone with a 30-pin dock connector, you can use the dock connector-to-USB cable that comes with your Apple device or a 3rd party dock connector-to-USB cable (sold separately) to connect your iPod/iPhone to the FH-X830BHS. You can choose to operate your iPod/iPhone through the head unit's front-panel controls, from its clickwheel/touchscreen, or via a streamed app from your iPhone.

    • Head Unit: From the head unit, you can browse your iPod/iPhone's music library by Artist, Album, Song, Genre, Playlist, Composer, Podcast, or Audiobook. Once you have selected a category, you can search each category alphabetically. In addition, the head unit offers Link Play, which allows you to play songs related to the currently playing song. Link Play lets the head unit create an album list of the currently playing artist, a song list of the currently playing album, or an album list of the currently playing genre. You can also select Random & Repeat functions for a certain song or specific folder. The head unit will display your iPod/iPhone's stored music file information; including Track number, Elapsed playing time, and Song/Artist/Album name. Apple devices w/ iOS 6.0+ will stay unlocked, so you can access music apps; other iPod/iPhone device's clickwheel or touchscreen will be locked during this mode.
    • iPod/iPhone: In iPod mode, you can navigate the stored music on your iPod/iPhone from its clickwheel or touchscreen, while still being able to view song/artist information and control basic playback functions from the head unit. You will not be able to browse your iPod/iPhone's music by category from the head unit or use Link Play in this mode.
    • Apps: App mode lets you listen to your favorite music apps from your iPhone (iOS 5.0+) through the Pioneer head unit and your vehicle's speakers. Once you have selected the music app from your iPhone, you'll be able to listen to music from that app through the Pioneer head unit, view song/artist information on the head unit's LCD, and operate basic playback functions such as Play/Pause and Previous/Next Track from the head unit's front-panel control. Not all apps will be compatible with App Mode.

Media App Control (for Android & iPhone): The Media App Control mode lets you listen to your favorite music apps on your Bluetooth-paired Android smartphone (2.3+) or USB-connected iPhone (iOS 5.0+) through the Pioneer head unit and your vehicle's speakers. Media App Control lets you take control of compatible music apps on your compatible Android or iPhone device through the Pioneer FH-X830BHS. Media App Control allows you to play, pause, and change tracks from a compatible music app directly from the controls on the Pioneer head unit. The app's name (i.e. "iHeartAuto"), station identification, and song/artist information will be displayed on the head unit's LCD screen (when applicable, depending on app). Compatible music apps include:

    • Bookmarking: The song/artist currently being played can be bookmarked & stored in your Pandora account.

Note: Access to the Pandora service will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet. Pandora is not supported in Canada & only available in the United States.

Spotify Online Music Service: The Pioneer FH-X830BHS has the ability to playback & control content from the Spotify music app on your USB-connected iPhone (iOS 7.0+) device or Bluetooth-paired Android smartphone. You can play, pause and skip tracks, browse playlists, albums and radio stations through the Pioneer receiver's front-panel controls. You also get song/artist information on the unit's front-panel LCD. Access to the Spotify service will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone or Android device to connect to the Internet. If you are a Spotify Premium user (requires a monthly paid subscription), you can enjoy ad-free, high quality music even when there is no internet connection.

SiriusXM Ready: The Pioneer CD receiver is SiriusXM 3.0 Ready, so you can listen to commercial-free music, all your favorite sports, exclusive talk and entertainment, comedy, news, traffic, weather, and more. Simply connect the SiriusXM Connect Vehicle Tuner (20SXV300, sold separately) to the dedicated SiriusXM port on the rear of the head unit and enjoy satellite radio without additional translators or cables. With the SiriusXM Connect tuner you'll have access to more than 175 channels of exclusive programming directly from SiriusXM; check out the most popular SiriusXM subscription packages here. Additional features include:

    • Channel + Category Lists: The Channel List displays a list of all available channels. The Category List displays all available categories and stations within those categories.
    • Song/Artist Information: Displayed Information such as Channel Name, Artist Name, & Song Title can be viewed on the head unit's LCD.
    • Instant Replay & Category Scan: The SiriusXM Instant Replay function lets you pause, rewind, and replay up to 60 minutes of live content from the station that you are currently listening to. During Category Scan, the live broadcast for each channel in the current category plays for six seconds at a time.
    • Presets: You can store up to 18 SiriusXM Satellite Radio Station Presets with special tuning features.
      • TuneStart: TuneStart automatically start songs from the beginning when you tune to one of your preset music channels stored on the current band of presets.
      • TuneScan: TuneScan lets you scan through short previews of songs you may have missed on music channels stored on the current band of presets.
      • TuneMix: Create a music channel that's a blend of songs made up from the music channels stored on the current band of presets.
    • Parental Control: The SiriusXM Parental Control feature allows you to control access to channels that you consider inappropriate for younger listeners. When enabled, The Parental Control feature requires you to enter a 4-digit passcode to tune to the locked channels.
Note: A separate SiriusXM Satellite Radio subscription is required (operates on the XM Network). However, you can easily add this SiriusXM tuner to an existing Sirius or XM account for a Multi-Radio Discount Plan.

HD Radio: The Pioneer FH-X830BHS's built-in HD Radio tuner lets you listen to the radio with the same fidelity as your digital music. HD Radio features high quality audio, FM multi-casting, and data services. With HD Radio, your FM stations offer near CD-quality sound, AM stations provide FM-like sound, and there is crystal-clear reception with no audio distortion. Best of all, HD Radio is 100% subscription free. The unit's tuner also supports analog AM/FM broadcasts.

    • Multicasting: In addition to conventional broadcasts, with HD Radio broadcasting it is possible to choose from up to 3 multicast programs (HD1 to HD3, and analog). There are also data programs for each program.
    • Station Text + RDS: AM/FM digital stations can offer text and data such as artist names and song titles. For analog FM stations, the Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as song/artist information when listening to compatible RDS FM stations.
    • Supertuner IIID: The Supertuner IIID features Feed Forward Control, which avoids multi-path interference. This pre-detection of interference enables quick filter control and results in less distortion. In addition, the Supertuner IIID creates enhanced stereo during multi-path interference, unlike conventional tuners that collapse to mono. Digital processing reduces distortion, and improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio and stereo separation. Advanced analog technology improves signal processing sensitivity.
    • Reception Blending: If a digital broadcast reception condition gets poor, this unit automatically switches to the analog broadcast of the same frequency level. If this function is set to "On", the tuner switches between digital broadcast and analog broadcast automatically. If this function is 'Off', reception will be conducted within an analog broadcast.
    • BSM (Best Stations Memory): The BSM (Best Stations Memory) function lets you automatically store the six strongest analog or HD stations under preset buttons 1-6 of the currently tuned band. The tuner has 3 FM banks and 1 AM bank. You can store 6 presets for each bank giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 6 AM presets.
    • Local Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. There are 4 level of sensitivity for FM and two levels for AM. The higher settings allow reception of only the strongest stations, while lower settings let you receive progressively weaker stations.
    • Emergency Alerts: Emergency Alerts work in conjunction with the Federal Emergency Alert Services to provide more advanced messaging during emergencies or disasters. Providing relevant local content, particularly in times of severe weather or other natural emergencies make HD Radio's Emergency Alerts feature an invaluable resource.
    • iTunes Tagging: It is possible to save the song's information (tag) from a HD Radio or RDS FM broadcasting station to your USB-direct connected iPod/iPhone. The songs will show up in a playlist called "Tagged" in iTunes the next time you sync your iPod/iPhone. Then you can directly buy the songs you want from the iTunes Music Store.

Note: HD Radio is the system for digital AM and FM broadcasting in the U.S. More than 2,000 radio stations are broadcasting their primary signals in digital HD Radio technology, as a free service. Go to www.hdradio.com to check for HD Radio stations in your area.

    Audio & DSP Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The Pioneer in-dash head unit utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The FH-X830BHS is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

    • CEA2006 Specs: 14 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Continuous Power Output: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 50Hz-15kHz, 5% THD)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels
Note: The power specifications for the FH-X830BHS are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers.

2V/6CH Preamp Outputs + Sub Control: The Pioneer FH-X830BHS features three pairs of 2.0-volt preamp outputs (Front/Rear/Subwoofer). The unit's front and rear preamp output can be faded (front/rear), while the subwoofer preamp output is non-fading. The Pioneer FH-X830BHS lets you adjust the subwoofer preamp output's phase (normal/reverse) and volume (+10 to -24).

Crossovers: The FH-X830BHS employs high-pass and low-pass crossovers to tailor the head unit to your connected speaker setup.

    • Standard: Allows you to set the high-pass and low-pass crossover network for a standard Front, Rear, and Subwoofer speaker setup using either speaker-level or low-level outputs.
      • HPF: The head unit's -6 to -24dB/octave high pass filter only allows frequencies higher than those in the selected range (50, 63, 80, 100, 125, 160, 200Hz) to your front and rear speakers through the unit's speaker-level or line-level outputs.
      • LPF: The subwoofer preamp output features an -6 to -24dB/octave low pass filter so only frequencies lower than those in the selected range (50, 63, 80, 100, 125, 160, 200Hz) are output to your connected subwoofer.
    • Network: Allows you to set the high-pass and low-pass crossover network for a complex 3-way speaker system with Highs, Mids, and Sub using low-level outputs only.
      • Highs: The high-pass crossover for your tweeters can be set to 1.25, 1.6, 2, 2.5, 3.15, 4, 5, 6.3, 8, 10, or 12.5 kHz with a -6 to -36dB/octave roll-off.
      • Mids: You can set a high-pass and low-pass crossover from your midrange/midbass drivers. The high-pass crossover can be set to 1.25, 1.6, 2, 2.5, 3.15, 4, 5, 6.3, 8, 10, or 12.5 kHz with a -6 to -36dB/octave roll-off. The low-pass crossover can be set to 26, 31.5, 40, 50, 63, 80, 100, 125, 160, 200, or 250 Hz with a -6 to -36dB/octave roll-off.
      • Lows: The low-pass crossover for your subwoofers can be set to 26, 31.5, 40, 50, 63, 80, 100, 125, 160, 200, or 250 Hz with a -6 to -36dB/octave roll-off.

EEQ (Easy EQ) w/ 13-Band Graphic EQ: There are seven stored equalizer curves which you can easily recall at any time. You can choose from - Powerful, Natural, Vocal, Super Bass, Flat, Custom 1, or Custom 2. The Custom 1 and Custom 2 EQ modes allow you to manually adjust the level (+/- 12dB) of each band of the head unit's 13-band graphic equalizer (50, 80, 125, 200, 315, 500, 800, 1.25k, 2k, 3.15k, 5k, 8k, and 12.5k Hz).

Audio Settings: The head unit provides further sound adjustments for your car audio system.

    • Listening Position & Time Alignment: For a better sound-stage you can select your optimal listening position. You can choose from All, Front Left, Front Right, or Front. You can also select to manually fine tune the sound stage, using Digital Time Alignment (DTA) by selecting the distance (0-200") for each individual speaker in the vehicle compared to your listening position.
    • Advanced Sound Retriever: The Advanced Sound Retriever automatically enhances compressed audio and restores the original richness of the recording. When the Advanced Sound Retriever is on, the high frequency range is compensated to match the frequency response curve to the original sound. There are two available levels of the Advanced Sound Retriever effect.
    • Bass Boost: You can easily boost the subwoofer bass level by using the Bass Boost function. The Bass Boost feature allows you increase the subwoofer level from 0 to +6 (12dB).
    • Loudness: The Loudness function compensates for deficiencies in the low- and high-frequency ranges at low volume. You can set the Loudness to High, Mid, Low, or Off.
    • Speaker Level: You can adjust each speaker and sub channel independently from +10 to -24 to best even out the sound in your vehicle.
    • Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the unit's FM volume level, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4 dB to +4 dB.
    • Auto Level: This function automatically corrects the audio level difference between the music files and/or the sources.

Rear Speaker Setup: The rear speaker outputs can be set to provide full range output with full fading capability, or they can be set to provide non-fading subwoofer (low-pass) output. When the rear speaker outputs are set to subwoofer mode, the rear preamp outputs also switch from full range to subwoofer outputs. When set for subwoofer operation, you can connect the rear speaker leads directly to two small 4-ohm passive subwoofers or a dual voice coil sub with 4-ohm voice coils. If you prefer to use a single 2-ohm subwoofer, you can connect the woofer to one set of speaker leads, leaving the other set of rear leads disconnected. The maximum output provided when a 2-ohm load is connected to one set of leads is 70 watts.

MIXTRAX: Drawing from Pioneer's rich DJ heritage and passion for music, MIXTRAX delivers a unique DJ infused listening experience to listeners in the car. MIXTRAX is an innovative Pioneer technology that creates a non-stop mix of your music library complete with a range of DJ-inspired effects. MIXTRAX takes your typical music listening experience and creates a non-stop mix of your music with 3 random DJ effects and transitions, by removing the breaks and pauses normally introduced between tracks and replacing them with various beats. MIXTRAX is compatible with USB-connected iPod/iPhone, USB MSC device, and select Android devices. There is also a Short Playback option which limits the amount of time each track plays; select from 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, or 3 minutes.

Note: The MIXTRAX function does not work in App mode or with the Pandora App for iPod/iPhone, and is not supported by USB MTP devices. The Advanced Sound Retriever function is disabled when MIXTRAX is activated.

    Display Features

Color Customization: Color Customization lets the user match their receiver illumination to their vehicle's interior lighting. Over 210,000 colors are available to match the illumination of almost any car. The button illumination and display illumination colors can be customized separately for an endless number of color combinations. You can select from 12 preset colors, customize an illumination color (by adjusting Red/Blue/Green brightness levels), or scan through a variety of colors.

Brightness Control: You can manually adjust the brightness (1-10) of the head unit's display to suit your viewing needs. You can also sync the receiver's illumination to the head units' clock or your vehicle's headlights. To dim the receiver's display automatically when the vehicle's headlights are turned on, you'll need to hardwire the orange/white wire of the head unit's harness to your vehicle's parking light circuit.

MIXTRAX Illumination: MIXTRAX features a club-style illumination that enhances the mood with a dynamic dance club-like lighting effect. As MIXTRAX begins, lights start pulsing to the beat of the music, adding an extra level of entertainment. You can choose different patterns of lighting variations from sound pressure level or low-pass synchronization modes. The lighting effects work like a spectrum analyzer, reaching peak colors based on the intensity of the music.

Clock Display: When the Clock Display has been turned on, pressing and holding the "SRC" button turns off audio output, but the clock display and button illumination remains on (you can press the "DISP" button to turn off). When the Clock Display has been turned off, pressing and holding the "SRC" button turns the unit off completely. Even if you have turned the radio completely off you can view the clock display by pressing the "DISP" button. The clock will then remain On until you turn it back Off. When the unit is On, you can select between the clock display or the audio track/tuner display.

2-DIN Chassis: The Pioneer FH-X830BHS has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as "Double -DIN"), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. The unit can be ISO-mounted using factory brackets. There is also an optional double-DIN sleeve (130ADTV133, sold separately) available for this unit that will allow you to Euro-mount or custom mount the Pioneer head unit in your vehicle.

    Remote Control

Advanced Remote Control App (for Apple iOS & Android): Download the Pioneer ARC (Advanced Remote Control) App onto your Apple iOS (8.0+) or Android (4.1+) device to turn your smartphone or tablet device into a remote control for the Pioneer head unit. Your Apple iOS device can be connected via USB or Bluetooth, while your Android device can only be connected via USB. The following control features are available via the Pioneer Advanced Remote Control App.

    • Song/Artist Info + Album Art: The Pioneer Advanced Remote Control App provides song/artist information with album art for the music stored on your Apple iOS or Android device. You also get station identification for AM/FM radio; if an AM/FM station supports RDS, you will even get song/artist info.
    • Favorites: The app lets you quickly display radio stations saved as favorites, plus favorite songs in your Apple iOS or Android device's music library. From the Favorite screen, you also get access to contacts saved as "favorites" on your smartphone.
    • Select Apps: From the Pioneer ARC app, you can also pick from select music apps (like Pandora, iHeart, Spotify, TuneIn) that are installed on your Apple iOS or Android device. Once you select a specific music app, that particular music app opens on your mobile device for playback control.
Note: If you switch to other applications and functions, such as using other iOS device or Android applications or placing calls from your smartphone, you must restart the Pioneer ARC app on your iOS device or Android device.

Wireless Remote Control: The FH-X830BHS comes with an IR wireless remote control. The remote allows you to control the volume, switch between sources, pause playback, skip music tracks, change display info, and answer/end Bluetooth phone call. You can also mute the volume (function that cannot be performed from the front panel).

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately).

I've installed several Pioneer car stereos and have always been happy with their sound quality. They are always a big improvement over the factory unit. I chose the FH-X830BHS model to fill the gaping hole in the dash of my 2013 RAM 2500 the factory unit was going to leave. I also needed a cd player which the factory unit did not have.( Yes I'm old, and old school!) [ James  Mar 13, 2017 ]

There were a few reasons I choose the Pioneer FH-X830BHS. After speaking with an advisor this player had all the features I was looking for and had the best price. The features that I was looking for were: 1. Bluetooth capability 2. Pre outs for a subwoofer 3. CD player 4. Ipod tuner built in and able to play Pandora through Android. 5. Ability to keep the clock on the screen 6. Ability to add Satellite radio later if I wanted. [ Amanda  Feb 21, 2017 ]

On the front of the unit, in the lower right-hand corner, there is a small pinhole. This is the reset button. Just take a paper clip, pin, or similar thin object and push in and hold the button until the unit resets.

There were 2 extra pieces I had to purchase. A harness specific to my vehicle and the interface to use the steering wheel controls. I still like the radio, however it gets flakey when you have multiple users doing Bluetooth (iPhone and Android). You just have to shut off the car to have it power down (30 seconds) then restart the car. Radio may sit for 2-3 mins off before coming back on and then it will synch up with the wife's iPhone. Not an everytime thing but it happens.

By purchasing the Sirius Xm package, would I have to swap Sirius antennas on a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Sport or is the existing antenna compatible with this sirius unit?

You need a special antenna to receive Sirius radio. If your 2013 Jeep Wrangler has satellite radio available in its original stereo system, you can use its existing antenna. If the Jeep Wrangler does NOT have a stock Sirius radio you will have to swap the antenna.

    Q
I haven't found a way to disable the emergency announcement / Weather alerts and as they arrive the unit will automatically beep and then switch over to the FM radio source each time they come. I can dismiss a given alert, but in our area they literally arrive repeatedly every 3 or 4 minutes (I'm not exaggerating) during stormy weather which makes it difficult to listen to audio sourced from a phone or other external device for more than a couple of minutes before it switches back again to the radio for an alert. Is there no menu option in the unit to shut off this alert function permanently, and if not who wants to constantly switch back to the desired input source over and over every few minutes during bad weather? I hope I've just overlooked an option other than physically needing to disconnect the antenna to avoid the annoyance during bad weather days. I do really love the head unit, except when it's stormy outside...

I have never had that issue or heard any type of weather other than a typical radio station on my radio. The radio does not have any weather alerts that I know of. My only guess is that it is being pickup up off from your cell phone. Try disabling your bluetooth on your cellphone and try that. You can also unpair your phone from the radio. Keep in mind that doing this will not allow you to play music from your cellphone to your radio. I have always used my flash drive for higher quality music as it supports "Flac" a lossless compression for higher quality of music.

It's been 20 years since I've looked at car stereos, so forgive the ignorant questions.. I am looking at this for a 2011 Caravan. Is the 14Watts enough to run the factory speakers w/o buying an amp? Is there a factory amp that needs to be reused?
    [ Justin  Nov 14, 2017 ]

    A
Depends on what type of sound you are looking for if you are looking for. If you are looking for. More full sound an amp would definitely benefit the listening experience but if you just looking to go simple or on budget a headunit should be fine. The the regular wattage for the DEH-X830BHS is 25 watts for 4 channels but can go up to 50 watts and for factory speakers that's just fine.

No experience with usb 3.0. I'm not a fan of using the lcd screen to navigate through music folders and songs one line at a time. I set up playlists on my phone and stream through Bluetooth before I start driving. I would argue that it is safer to navigate through my iPhone using Siri voice command to play music than to use the Pioneer menu screen and have an ugly usb drive sticking out of my radio head unit only to get bumped and broken.

I have some alternator whine with this product installed in a 2003 Toyota Highlander w/ JBL (high pitched noise whenever the head unit is powered on, changes pitch at different rpms). I've tried the "wire around the rca jacks" trick with no success, in fact this gave me all sorts of new static type noise. I've also tried beefing up the ground wire, grounding the unit itself, grounding directly to the chassis. Any ideas? It's subtle, but very annoying.

Does display dim when headlighrs are turned on?
    [ Dw  Dec 01, 2016 ]
    5 answers
    A
Yes this unit will dim down when the headlights are turned on. The brightness must be turned down before the dim function will be noticeable. The brightness function controls the brightness of the dim settings. If the dim setting is all the way up there will be no difference between the dim brightness with the headlights on or off.
    [ Gregg  Nov 05, 2017 ]

I have mine set to the highest illumination so I can see the deck during the day better...and it DOES NOT dim when I turn on my lights...or at least for how I have the illumination settings programmed and/or how I installed the unit. There are some other [SYNC ILLUMI] settings that you can play with if this is what you wanting it to do...but I am not sure whether or not this is the setting that will allow the display to dim when the headlights do come on...if this is what you are wanting it to do. I have not played around with these [SYNC] settings or any other illumination settings...nor does the owners manual tell you what exactly the other illumination settings do exactly...you may wan to contact Pioneer to see if it will dim when the headlights come on...if this is what you are wanting it to do. You can look at the owners manual (pdf) from the Pioneer website...other than that, this is a great deck. I had to upgrade the firmware on it for my new phone for better bluetooth functionality. If you upgrade the firmware make sure you write down or backup your settings...it will default back to factory settings.or at least that is what it did when I upgraded the firmware. I did not think it would overwrite all my settings.but it did, and I had to go back and readjust all my settings.(eq settings, everything else I had set.real pain). Not for sure if there is a way to backup your all your settings to USB before the firmware upgrade (the firmware upgrade instructions did not mention it)...but you may want to ask Pioneer that question...could not find anything in the owners manual either.referring to backing up settings prior to firmware upgrades. If I have to do a firmware upgrade again, I will call Pioneer on this.if there is now way to backup your settings prior to a firmware upgrade.that is only real bad design I can think of.other than I could not use RCA cable/connections from my amp to the head unit because the RCA connections stuck to far out on the back of the head unit (keeping head unit from seating all the back into the dash).this may not be the case for you or someone else though.depending on what you are putting the deck in.I installed mine in a 2002 4-Runner. I ended up having to use speaker wire.cutting off the female ends on the RCA connectors for my amp (Alpine KTP-445U Power Pack) and used posi connectors to wire up the RCA ends that I cut off to the speaker wire leading to the head unit.still sounds great. Hope this helps.

I have not used the blue tooth while playing music from USB. I do not see any reason why it would make any difference. What ever you select for your source for input should take precedents over anything else. The reason I chose a front USB receiver is so I did not have to mess with a clunky cell phone. I can get better quality music from my computer to put on a flash drive. Also this receiver supports FLAC audio wich is a lossless format. To learn more search Flac audio.

The unit has a front USB that is faster, more reliable, smaller, more convenient and holds hundreds of songs depending on size of flash drive. Yes the USB port will charge as well as play. I tried out the arc app when I first installed it but its really pointless for me. this the first stero that plays anything other than cd,s. to me it reads fast. I really like the stero overall. I recorded 6 cd,s on a usb flash drive and it starts playing fast. I bought the adapter to use the stock steering wheel controls and that works great. Also I ran the microphone wire for the blue tooth phone, and this works very well also. It downloaded my phone book into the unit. nice. people say the phone sounds good

Quick read time. My flash drive is not full, but loaded in seconds. Great processor.
