Phenomenal bass!

Just installed one of these in my Sea Hunt 290 right under my lean post in my bait station. I already put in two of the m series 10" subs under the seat on the front of my helm but my stern seriously lacked the bass I wanted. I had my doubts running one 12" vs. putting in two 10" subs but boy was I wrong! This sub hits the highs lows and miss like you wouldn't believe! I wish I'd never put the two 10's in the front of my helm and just ran two of these 12's instead. The amount of bass is ridiculous when turned up yet when I tune it down a little it's absolutely perfectly balanced bass. I listen to a variety of music types, from country, rock rap raggae and anything else in between and this sub performs absolutely flawlessly, I HIGHLY recommend and would (more like will haha) buy again!

Pros: Hits all the highs and deep lows that normally sound distorted, plenty of bass for tying up with a bunch of boats, excellent craftsmanship, and I know I said it before but it's just a perfect marine sub! Didn't know a marine sub could flow like this!

Cons: None. Zip. Zilch. Nada.

Pros: powerful and deep even at lower volumes

Cons: needs power and deep pockets

If your looking for a high end marine subwoofers that can the handle high powered amps and give you awesome bass all day you want these subs. They require a lot of room but if you have the space you will not regret putting them in your boat!

Pros: Can handle a lot of power / Big Bass Sound All Day, Wide Bass Range, Look Great

Cons: They are large speakers and take a lot of room in a boat, which didn't allow me to use as many as I wanted to! Lol

Product Research

Features

Marine Tested: JL Audio's marine subwoofers are subjected to ultraviolet testing chambers (to simulate years of sun exposure) and salt fog chambers (to simulate years of exposure to salt-water environments). Marine-grade stainless steel mounting hardware is included.

Construction: The 12" subwoofer features an injection-molded, mica-filled polypropylene cone with a synthetic rubber surround specifically formulated with UV inhibitors for marine use. Marine-grade, synthetic fiber spiders withstand high humidity. The polymer baskets are corrosion and UV-resistant and encapsulate the sub's motor system to prevent corrosion.

Dynamic Motor Analysis (DMA): DMA is JL Audio's proprietary method of improving dynamic motor behavior. As a result of DMA optimization, the subwoofer's motor remains linear over a long excursion range, and also maintains a stable fixed magnetic field in the gap over a wide power range. The result is reduced distortion, faithfully reproduced transients, and tight, clean, articulate bass.

Infinite-Baffle Operation: The M12IB6 is optimized for infinite baffle operation so that it can be installed in a variety of locations, without the need for a dedicated enclosure. If an enclosure is used, 2 ft³ is the minimum recommended volume.

Polymer Basket And Grille: The UV-resistant polymer basket and grille are corrosion and UV-resistant, protecting the subwoofer and encapsulating the motor assembly to prevent corrosion. The grille can be removed, it's held in place by six screws. If the sub is mounted without the grill, the mounting height is 0.92".

Mounting Hardware: The woofer comes supplied with marine-grade, stainless-steel mounting screws and washers.

Customer Q&A

Q
Crutchfield asked: Why did you buy this?
A
I have had a JL 10" and have heard the 12" in the same boat. The bass definitely sounded better. It was hard to pay the extra money though. [ GARY P  Apr 27, 2017 ]

I have two 10's, the big boy 12, 8 7.7's and two 7.7 tower speakers on my 29 foot center console boat, here's my advice: don't go with 2 or even 3 10's, one 12 is insane, like really good insane! The lows it can hit are tremendous and puts my two 10's to shame, you really can't even hear them over the 12. I just wish someone gave me this advice before I got my 10's haha. As for the enclosure: I'm 90% sure these are infinite baffle subs meaning no enclosure is needed... having said that, my 12 is mounted in my helm seat/bait station so technically it's on a giant box, but there drawers and plumbing and gaps everywhere so it's not sealed by any means. I can't remember the exact cutout size, of you go to JL Audio's website and pull of the 12 and go to specifications it'll give you exact measurements for inside and outside diameter, depth needed etc. if I were you I'd cut the hole to make the sub fit. I promise it's worth it!
