Features

Overview: The CP108LG-W3v3 MicroSub subwoofer system is a compact bass solution for the vehicle with limited space. This ported enclosure is loaded with a single, 4-ohm 8W3v3 woofer.

Enclosure Design: The enclosure features top-quality MDF (medium-density fiberboard), constructed using state-of-the-art CNC woodworking equipment, and covered with high-grade automotive carpeting. The driver is protected by a black steel-mesh grille. Internally, the enclosure is equipped with JL Audio's ECL wiring from the woofer to the 5-way binding post connectors. The port and binding posts are on the left side of the enclosure.

Dimensions:

  • Width: 18-5/8"
  • Height: 11-1/8"
  • Depth:
    • 5-1/8" (enclosure)
    • 6-5/8" (including grille)

Flared Port: The enclosure has a side-firing flared slot-port. The flared slot-port design minimizes turbulence and improves fidelity. The port is 1-1/2" high and 4" wide at the opening.

Driver: The 8" W3v3 driver has the following features:

  • Dynamic Motor Analysis (DMA): DMA is JL Audio's proprietary method aimed at improving dynamic motor behavior. As a result of DMA optimization, W3v3 motors remain linear in motor force over a very long range of excursion, and also maintain a highly stable fixed magnetic field in the gap over a wide power range. The result is vastly reduced distortion, faithfully reproduced transients, and tight, clean, articulate bass.
  • Floating Cone Attachment Method (FCAM): JL Audio's patented FCAM technology is an innovative method of bonding the surround/cone assembly to the voice coil/spider assembly. This assembly technique ensures proper surround geometry in the assembled speaker for better excursion control and dynamic voice coil alignment.
  • Vented Reinforcement Collar (VRC): The Vented Reinforcement Collar is a composite structure that addresses two issues related to reliability. By reinforcing the critical junction between the cone, voice coil and spider, the VRC greatly reduces failures due to glue breakdown or material weaknesses. It does this by greatly increasing adhesive contact area and providing stress relief to the spider material at excursion extremes. the VRC also feature slots that facilitate air flow directly onto the voice coil windings to reduce thermal compression effects and enhances reliability.
  • Spider/Lead Wire Assembly: The W3v3 features a unique spider, coil and terminal subassembly which is assembled prior to installation in the speaker frame for optimum alignment and glue-joint integrity. The spider is insert-molded into a composite carrier tray which also incorporates the terminal assembly and lead wire strain relief features for enhanced reliability and optimal alignment of parts. The flying lead wires are carefully controlled and strain-relieved without resorting to woven-in lead wires, which can degrade spider performance.
  • Elevated Frame Cooling: The elevated frame design of the W3v3 delivers high-velocity air flow through slots directly above the top plate to the voice coil of the speaker. This not only enhances power handling, but also sound quality by minimizing dynamic parameter shifts and power compression.
  • Surround Stress Relief: By creating a radiused feature on the edge of the cone, stress is relieved from the surround material at maximum forward excursion, resulting in longer life and more consistent surround behavior.
  • Customizable Trim Ring: The woofer comes with a removable ring made of black ABS plastic which can be painted to match the installation theme and create a personalized look. You can purchase optional grille mesh inserts which are specifically designed to fit into the inner diameter of the trim ring.

A
I need a small, but high quality sub for my 2016 Ford F-150 Super Crew to improve the sound and provide low-end frequencies while generating tight, clean bass that drives without shaking the windows or booming down the road. I have a wife and 7 year old and just want great sound in my truck and I think this might be the perfect thing...plus it will fit perfectly under the rear passenger seat and the black carpeting will blend perfectly with my interior! [ John  Apr 05, 2017 ]

This little sub has amazing output. Nice clean bass to restore the low end in all music [ Travis  Jun 27, 2016 ]
A
Rely a lot on other Crutchfield reviews. JL Audio quality. Similar frequency response to 10" version while taking up a bit less space. Specs match the 5-channel JL Audio amplifier and my Infiniti Kappa 6" component speakers. Not looking to rattle my license plate but don't want to miss those low notes either. Quality over quantity! [ Trevor  Jun 22, 2016 ]
A
Only good reviews, and i wanted something small in size but clean sounding for a balanced system. This was a little above my price range but its better to "buy once, cry once". Excited to install this with my Alpine MRV-500 amp. [ Julian  Feb 17, 2016 ]
A
The reviews and because it is a space saver , the open box price for a JL. I am looking to fill the bass my system is lacking, I think this will be a good fit, If I need more bass I will purchase a second open box 8inch but I think this should cover me I hope. I will leave a review either way once I have it hooked up to help anyone else that has a small two door sports car , I plan on sitting this in my back seat that no one sits in because there is no leg room in my Scion FRS. Q
Can you buy two of these and hook them up to the single sub channel on the Alpine PDR-V75?
[ JMC574  Nov 27, 2018 ]

A
Since the rated impedance for these is 4ohm, then 2 of them wired together would be halved for a total of 2 ohm. Your amp is rated for that, so yes, you could do that if you wish.
[ SYLVESTER  Dec 03, 2018 ]
A
No. Chat with the crutchfield folks.
[ Brandon  Dec 03, 2018 ]
A
Yes, you could. Wire them in parallel so the total impedance is 2ohms. Each speaker would be getting 175watts rms and they are rated for 250 rms. If you have the room, I would suggest one bigger speaker vs two smaller ones. It will usually give you deeper bass. I have one of these in the floor of the trunk of a crv. I have 180watts going to it from a jl amp. It doesn't wake the neighbors but it sounds good to me and I listen to my music loud sometimes.
[ Cory  Dec 03, 2018 ]
A
Yes you could, without looking up your amp i dont know how much power it has

What did you set your cross over at?

I had the system installed with a kicker 6 3/4 box. I exchanged the kicker for the JL Audio sub. All I did was disconnect the kicker and connect the JLAudio. I'm not even sure how to set cross over, if I'm honest I don't even know what that means. Your guidance is appreciated!

I'm not a stereo tuner my amp was a little bit too much power for that sub box so I just turned the game down I'm not sure what it said at
[ Lance  Jul 20, 2018 ]
A
To be honest I don't recall what I found to be "optimal" in my setup. I usually prefer around 80Hz, which is current for my 12". I do remember trying the spectrum of adjustments between the Alpine mono amp and the several Sub controls on my Pioneer Avic8200, including changing phase, slope, cutoff etc.. The sub in question here (I tried two of 'em) has a sweet spot of course, but only slightly outperformed my expensive door speakers (JL c2's in the rear and JL c5's up front) when stowed in the trunk.
[ SYLVESTER  Jul 20, 2018 ]
A
80hz, it's not all great. Of course I had it on my golf cart. They sound better in a vehicle. I've had the 12 as well
[ LANE  Jul 20, 2018 ]
A
I set at 100 Hertz
[ TODD M  Jul 20, 2018 ]

Hello, I have a small Rockford 4 channel amp running this sub box. 45w per channel rms. The front two channels are running 6.5" components and the rear two are bridged for this JL box. I have the crossover set around 80hz and that seems to have a full sound with no gaps. This box works pretty good in the double cab of my '14 tundra.
[ Josh  Jul 20, 2018 ]
Q
Seems like reviews are for truck installs. Would it be ideal for small sedans as well?
[ Javier  May 26, 2018 ]
6 answers
A
I tried two of them in the trunk of my 07 Fusion. I heard almost as good bass from my 4 new door speakers, which obviously are closer in proximity. I'd say from the reviews that they would perform more adequately for trucks. I wound up getting a single 12" with much, much better results.
[ SYLVESTER  Jun 09, 2018 ]
A
It could fit in a sedan, but probably only in the trunk. I have an extended cab tundra pickup and I could only fit it under the rear fold down seat. And just barely at that. It makes ok sound, it's decent for such a small enclosure and only 8" sub. But it won't make you say "wow, is that a 10" sub back there?" It makes ok thump for an 8". If you're planning on putting it in the trunk, that would be easy. But I'm not aware of any sedan made today that could fit a box that big in the cabin of the car.
[ Josh  Jun 01, 2018 ]
A
It's a very compact component and if you got a spot for it in your sedan it would work great....I'm thinking about ordering another one for my super duty. :)

A
Sure!
[ Bronson  May 26, 2018 ]

I tried both this and the CS110LG-TW3 (next size up) in the trunk of my WRX and they both work great. Point the speaker towards the back of the trunk!
[ Trevor  May 26, 2018 ]

I have this in a 2005 Dodge Durango. Big as a van inside. This sub is plenty in my opinion. Very satisfied.

Thanks for your question. JL Audio has been producing this unit since 2009. Stock is continually updated. Our current units should not have been manufactured more than a year or so ago. Unfortunately I don't have a specific date. Hope this is somewhat helpful.

I used a metal bracket that I bought at local retailer. Used some small Wood screws to hold the bracket to the sub box. Then used some sheet metal screw to screw the other side of the bracket to one of the panes in my trunk.
