Top-tier car audio experience
JL Audio's Evolution™ C5 premium component speaker systems reproduce your music with impressive fidelity and power. Your music will sound smooth and balanced, from the splash of a cymbal to the thump of an electric bass, and everything in between.
The C5-650 component system features a pair of silk dome tweeters that broadcast all the musical details without a hint of harshness. JL Audio built the 6-1/2" woofers for extended cone travel so they'll move more air, putting more oomph in your music when the rhythm section kicks in. These woofers use the same patented cooling technology developed for the ZR Series speakers, allowing the C5 speakers to play with a wide dynamic range at all volumes.
The C5 crossovers feature 4-position tweeter and 3-position midrange levels that give you 12 possible adjustment combinations for exceptional control over the final sound.
Installation note: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.

I have 3 pairs of JL Audio C5-650 and 1 pair of JL Audio C3-600 and I love them! They are installed in a 1998 Trans Am WS6 with a 13 inch JL Audio Subwoofer and 2 JL Audio Amplifiers. The sound is clear, loud and just magical!

I've listened to the C5-650 for about 1 year now in my Tacoma 2nd Gen (factory locations). Doors are deadened, the woofers are mounted in custom MDF adaptors I made, and the tweeters are pointed at the opposing head rests. I also layered weather stripping around the woofers. My C5 are powered from two channels of an Alpine PDX F4. I can say the C5 line is definitely intended for SQ. If you are more into SPL, then you might need to look elsewhere (like some of the 'internet brands') - but if you are right in the middle, then these definitely need auditioned. The vocals, highs and string instruments sound very smooth, outstanding and pretty close to the recording (silk really is the best)- you can critique the quality of sound mastering with these. Definitely can hear the difference between subscription-streaming and CD/lossless with these. They do not become harsh at high volume, and handle it quite well. Mid-range sounds pretty smooth and neutral - these are intended for hearing accurate midbass and midrange - not feeling midbass. They make some good midbass, and I wanted a little more out them given out well built they are, but they are accurate. I have the EQ protecting these with an 80Hz 24 dB slope - I tried, and the C5 do not like any frequencies intended for the subwoofer range. My only regret is not going with the 3-way version. The price is a little high, but I didn't pay retail. American design, German built! JL has best SQ!
Pros: -Best SQ before going into next price tier. -Nice crossover. -Very clear and accurate sound. -Baskets are cast - look awesome! -Plays very well at high volume without blaring.
Cons: -Expensive! Priced right at the level of diminishing returns of audio accuracy. -Expensive to upgrade to 3-way if you later decide (and don't have active-eq). -Midbass output could have been a little more, but they are for SQ, not SPL. -Other options at this level are probably available for slightly cheaper prices.

I've had these for 1 year now, I'm ready to swap them out. Install: Sealed up doors with sound deadening. Used Fast rings. Amplified using JL Audio XD 500/3 amplifier and Pioneer AVH head unit...The price doesn't justify the output in comparison to other cheaper component sets out there. Even the Infinity Kappa 62ix has more kick to it than these. These offer a reasonably flat frequency response from 150hz to 16khz. However this also makes them sound rather dull and lifeless. They lack any sort of mid-bass punch but the mid bass is certainly there, it's just not tight. I prefer my music to sound fun, have some life to it and these are basically designed to be very mellow and non dramatic. Audiophiles that listen to a lot of Symphony Orchestra music would likely appreciate this, even Smooth Jazz. However if you listen to R&B/Pop/Rock/Metal you would be better served for a set that has more tonal characteristics than these. More oomph so to speak. If you listen to a lot of slow country music, Orchestra, Smooth Jazz, these would suit well. They don't distort but they also don't pop out at you either, they don't offer any fun to your music and no amount of EQ curve can seem to cure this. They seem to sound resistant when boosting any mid bass curve while being below clip level, to eventually mudding out so theres no way to force them to kick at all. Even my wife's old Memphis coaxials have better sound signature than this.
Pros: Smooth mellow mids and highs Looks nice in front and back Crossover is well made
Cons: Lacks that mid-bass punch Rolls off significantly under 120hz If tweeter is placed on cone, it sticks out too far pushing up against the interior door panel Sound is too mellow, too boring Doesn't get very loud

Definitely one of the best speaker purchases I've made. I had upgraded the stock speakers once before to an entry level Infinity set I took off an old car; component fronts and coaxial rears. I also hooked up a small Alpine KTP-445u amp and was content with what I had a the time. Then I bought my wife a new car with a much better stock system. I just had to upgrade my sound system now. Unfortunately, the market just isn't want it used to be but JL Audio still provides some stellar products. I gave myself a good budget and started looking. I considered other manufacturers and also looked at JL's ZR series but really do prefer the sound of silk dome tweets. I bought myself two sets of JLs; component C5-650 fronts and C5-650x coaxial rears. I can't say enough on the build quality. However, these speakers are deeper and bulkier than my old speakers, so the install took a little more work. In a nutshell, I had to modify all the door panels and come up with some custom spacer with the supplies provided. Nothing too difficult. I ran the speakers for a week with the smaller Alpine KTP-445u then finally found time to properly wire the JL MX500/4 amp I bought with the speakers. It is night and day difference! DO IT! Buy a good amp. The mid-bass isn't car rattling but completely satisfying IMO. There's also sounds in my music I've never heard before and am finally experiencing it for the first time. Did I say AWESOME speakers?
Pros: All around, great speakers. A good sized amp really brings it alive! Silk dome tweets
Cons: You can probably find similar sound quality speakers for less The cast baskets look awesome but can make installs a little difficult for those with limited space

One of the best sounding speakers I've had the pleasure to hear. Crystal clear sound. Listening to classical, they effortlessly produce full sonic range with no apparent coloring of the sound. They have amazing "punch" for rock-n-roll, with no evidence of fatigue (unlike my ears) after extended high volume listening. I agree with other comments about the installation- these are premium speakers and benefit from quality installation materials like sound matting. I would also suggest taking the time and effort to run quality wiring for them. Very well worth the money.
Pros: Capable power handling, very clear tone, tweakable crossovers
Cons: Only gotcha is that these are listed as 6 3/4" speakers, meaning that they register on Crutchfield as not fitting a more traditional 6.5" factory location.

These speakers were installed in 2014 Subaru Impreza. I purchased spacers and brackets to aid in the install. Speaker baffles and fast rings were also used. Hush mat was installed on the inner door skins. New speaker wires were run between the amp, speakers, and crossovers. The speakers sound outstanding. I left everything at reference. These require a little more work to install as they do have a separate crossover, but if you are looking for a higher end system, these will serve you well.

I installed a pair of C5 650s into the front factory speaker positions on my Nissan 350Z. Before installing the JL's, I installed a pair of Infinity reference speakers and even though the results were better than the atrocious BOSE factory system, I just wasn't happy with the sound. When I installed the JL's, I added Dynamat extreme to the doors, ran new Monster speaker wires to the amplifier and I purchased a 3/4" MDF spacer from a recommended company. When I finally fired the JL C5 speakers up, I was BLOWN AWAY by how good they sounded. I was getting crystal clear highs and tremendous mids. (Word to the wise: don't skimp on the installation, these speakers demand a quality setup for maximum effect.) The levels of separation for the different crossover settings are very noticeable and can be customized to your personal tastes in real time. I ended up setting the mids and trebles to their reference settings since to me, they sounded great that way. Setting the trebles or mids on the crossovers to higher than reference actually hurt my ears. I absolutely recommend these speakers as your primary fronts. Go with something cheaper in the rears, like the JL C2's, since most of your sound is coming from up front anyway. Top these off with a good subwoofer (I have the JL 10W3V3), and you're golden. Yes, the C5's are expensive, but they're so worth it.

Very clean sounding and the range is very good. You will not be disappointed with these speakers. The crossover that comes with the speakers works very well and has some nice features for adjusting the level of the drivers and tweeters independently of each other. You also might want to consider getting the Dynamat Xtreme 10415 door kit. It eliminated all of my rattles in the door and doesn't stink like the traditional Dynamat. These will fit in the front doors of an 08 Scion TC. You will just need to build your own mounts. I used 3/4" MDF to make the main shape of the mount and an additional 1/4" MDF ring for just a little more clearance. Clears the window with plenty of room and does not hit the door panel.

Cast Alloy Baskets: The Evolution C5 component speakers feature cast alloy woofer baskets, while incorporating JL Audio's patented "Elevated Frame" cooling system. This cooling technology, also found on the flagship ZR component systems and W7 and W6v2 subwoofers, allows air to flow directly across the top plate and onto the voice coil windings to greatly improve linearity at all listening levels.
Motor Structure: The DMA (Dynamic Motor Analysis)-optimized motor structure achieves outstanding linearity.
Woofer Cones: The cone and suspension elements were designed and manufactured by the world-famous Dr. Kurt Müller & Co of Germany. The speakers feature low-mass, mineral-filled polypropylene cones with butyl rubber surrounds. The cone and surround are inherently well damped to deliver an uncolored, neutral midrange without any coloration. The speakers are also equipped with symmetrical-roll, hybrid-weave spiders.
Power Handling: JL Audio publishes several power specifications for this speaker, 75 watts continuous power handling (RMS), 225 watts peak music power, and 25-150 watts recommended amplifier power (RMS). We've listed the conservative combination of 25-75 watts RMS in the specs table.
Silk Domes: The C5 component system's 3/4" silk dome tweeters are incredibly smooth on- and off-axis for accurate imaging and a big, stable soundstage.
Neodymium Magnets: The small neodymium magnets and small chassis give you excellent tweeter placement flexibility.
Performance: Each pair of C5 tweeters is tested and matched to within 1 dB of JL Audio's reference curve to ensure optimum system performance.
Mounting Options: The tweeters come mounted in JL Audio's RSR mounting system to permit precise angling of the tweeters after installation. There are five available positions for angling the tweeter inside the flush mount. The mounting dimensions are as follows:
- Mounting Depth: 0.56" (1.67" screw depth)
- Mounting Height: 0.36"
- Frame Diameter: 1.758"
- Cutout Diameter: 1.49"
Two-way Crossover System: The C5 component system utilizes a true 2-way crossover system:
- High Pass: On the tweeters is a second order high-pass filter utilizing premium Mylar capacitors combined with an air-core inductor. Four tweeter level settings are selectable via jumper pins: +2.0dB, Reference, -1.5dB, and -3.0dB.
- Low Pass: The low-pass section features a first order filter with three levels of user-definable midrange presence: Low, Reference, and High.
Polyswitch: Polyswitch tweeter protection is incorporated into each C5 component system crossover system.
Barrier Strips: Connections to each crossover network are made via protected nickel-plated barrier strips.
Dimensions: The C5 crossover systems have the following dimensions: Width=3.367", Height=4.72", Depth=1.44"
Connection Note: The C5 component system comes with no speaker wire. Instead, a number of spade connectors and quick slides are included in the hardware pack to be crimped onto speaker wire you provide.
