1987 Nissan 300ZX
Left front speaker kept cutting out. Traced it down to this unit. Had to open it up and fiddle with the wires until the speaker came back on. Only reason I didn't return it for a new unit is I'm going to an amp soon anyway.

Scosche FGA Floating Ground Adapter
Crutchfield customer from Bonner Springs, KS on 8/20/2018
1992 Ford E Series
Worked on 92 e350 rv. Right rear ground color code used for adapter for all grounds.
Pros: Straight forward
Cons: None for me. People talk of freq limits but most new radios have eq settings so compensate for transformers on factory wiring. If ur that picky run additional grounds.

It worked!
DS from Richmond, VA on 6/14/2016
1986 Volkswagen Vanagon
Bought the FGA to correct an odd wiring design in my Vanagon in which the two rear speakers share a common ground, which made the receiver distort and anything above moderate listening levels. I used this device to put all four speakers and the receiver chassis on the same (chassis) ground, and to my amazement this corrected the problem and allowed the receiver to put out full power without distortion.
Pros: Does what it is supposed to do, when used 'intelligently' (some knowledge of electronics is helpful!).
Cons: Instruction sheet is of little use.

FGA
Brandon from Luray, Virginia on 5/11/2015
This was installed in my 1986 Mustang GT. My factory speakers were ground to the doors, so I needed this in order to complete my wiring harness, plus having a second ground is nice.
Pros: Easy to install, compact
Cons: Nothing at all

You may think you don't need it, but you do..

I thought Crutchfield was pulling a fast one when they automatically added this to my cart when I was ordering a stereo and speakers for my 32 year old Ford Mustang...boy was I wrong!! I needed it and the only thing I accomplished by removing it from my cart was delaying the completion of my stereo install project by 4 days. Stupid me, I won't make that mistake again. Unit is installed and now works 100%. Thank you Crutchfield, you guys do know what is best.
Pros: Makes modern stereo systems work in older Fords.
Cons: My stupidity of removing it from the cart from the cart on the initial order, ended up having to order it anyway.

Saved my life!
MG from Maryland on 4/20/2015
The people at Crutchfield are top notch, they certainly go above and beyond, I was ultimately frustrated with my audio project, a German made 1990 BMW 735i with a wiring harness that cannot be matched up for easy install as there is no Metra harness made for that car, and to make matters worse it is a common ground speaker system and the new aftermarket stereo's do not work with the older active amplifiers without modification (passive amps work differently). I was getting sound only out of 1 speaker (I have 10) the "floating ground adapter" allowed my factory amp to work and use all 10 speakers. They had the answer and I have great sound... the folks at Crutchfield Rock!
Pros: Great service, great products, super fast shipping
Cons: I didn't call them sooner!

I really dont know if this product works or not because it did not work with my application
Pros: Easy to install.
Cons: It didnt work for my application. I have the square plug. After I hooked up the floating gound adapter the final step in the instructions stated that if this vehicle had the square plug than the ground adapter would not work.

1988 Nissan 300ZX
Fantastic sound. Not really clear on what constitutes the need for this addition, but it works perfectly.
Pros: Works great. No issues.
Cons: A bit confusing as to why it is needed. And why only one speaker is to be connected to the exiting negative? Regardless, it functions perfectly

Scosche FGA Floating Ground Adapter
S from the Washington, DC Area on 12/23/2014
1988 BMW 3 Series
While restoring a BMW E30, I was able to test the system with and without the adapter. The FGA works well and didn't seem to detract from the sound quality of my radio. It was useful by saving me the trouble of permanently rewiring the sound system to include separate grounds for each speaker output.
Pros: It works well.
Cons: 1) Poor documentation. 2) Implies that it is only for Ford systems. 3) The wiring color code was the opposite of my car's color code. That is the polarity of the solid and striped wires were opposite (same Color but, Stripe to Solid and Solid to Stripe). This made the job a bit tedious because I had to double check each connection and some were difficult to see the stripe on the wires through the dash cutout.

This floating ground adapter was just the thing I needed to finish the install of a new head unit in an old classic car (1980 Chrysler) with a common ground. It works flawlessly and made the install much faster and easier than running all new wiring through the car!!!
Pros: fast and easy to install and works well.
Cons: none

Scosche FGA Floating Ground Adapter
Barry from Prescott Valley, AZ on 9/27/2014
This adaptor is required to connect any isolated-ground radio to any common-ground car without needing to run new speaker wiring to eliminate any common or chassis grounds. This applies to almost all 60's and 70's classic cars with the exception of the later Delco systems which are easily identified by their 3 piece blue, white and black connectors. It's not only needed for Ford cars as a customer "suggests"; it also applies to earlier GM of any model, Ford, Chrysler, AMC and any foreign cars that use a common negative ground system. The stock 300zx indeed uses a common ground system for the stereo. Sure, an isolated ground radio might "work" without the adaptor, but is very likely to overheat the output section, reduce the amount of available power and shorten its life. Crutchfield makes it extremely clear that "service after the sale" is just as important as the sale itself. I'm not affiliated with Crutchfield - just a car radio repair guy who is fed up with folks who cost us money through their lack of knowledge.

Not needed at all
Geoff W. from San Antonio, Tx. on 4/2/2014
Was told I "needed" this product to connect my new stereo with the old 300ZX wiring. Wrong!! Waste of money. It is sitting on my desk as a paperweight. Not worth the effort to return an item that cost this much. Like I said, waste of money. Only needed if you own a Ford vehicle, so don't fall for the "any older vehicle" line.
