Quality seems average. It functions as described but the installation instructions are completely inadequate. Fortunately the technical help department at Crutchfield was excellent!

Pros: It functions as described.

Cons: Incredibly bulky. Some insulation's may have difficulty fitting all of the pieces of the harnes in the dashboard space. Instructions were awful! Some steering wheel functions don't work.

Essential enabler of an upgrade

Enabled the upgrade of a Porsche Bose system as a DIY job. It connects many wires and optical connections with a custom and color-matched wiring harness. Nice job.

Pros: Almost as simple as matching wires by color. Preserves factory wiring. Can't imagine this job without this product. Crutchfield support was great.

Cons: I needed 2 quick calls to Crutchfield. Documentation for my car was not perfect, but no big problem.

This was used for a 2008 Porsche Boxster S with a Bose System. It clearly states the Boxster is not supported and the kit is used for a Cayenne. The reason I tried it because a friend with a 2006 Cayman with Bose had succeeded with his installation. I did not personally do the installation but I was told that the backup camera was a little tricky with the wiring but the audio was straight forward. You do loose the fader control but every speaker including the sub is powered and in stereo. I used a Kenwood DNX573S and very happy with the sound, the look and the back up camera. This is a much cheaper way to go to retain the factory amp and speakers with the Bose fiber optic system.

Pros: Retain factory amp and speakers with a Bose system.

Cons: None yet

simple solution, but not the best solution

At first it seemed to work great, all I wanted was to connect my phone to the car sound system. The phone has better apps and navigation that is available in built-in units. Using a Nokia 1520 and a Nokia 2520 tablet I got good balanced sound in the Cayenne. When I decided that a mounting system for the tablet (which is slightly large) did not meet my requirements I bought a Kenwood DNN992. With the DNN992 you don't just lose fader control you lose all the back speakers. A 4 of the 8 wheel controls. The quality from the front speakers is still very good and well defined. Another drawback is the added space needed for the 2 modules and wiring harness. Between the Interface and stereo, USB, and video wiring I ran out of room. I don't plan on video in or out and by not using that harness I found room for the rest, barely. I think that by summer I will decide to replace the interface with a wiring loom or RCA cables to the rear of the SUV and replace the Bose amp and MOST fiber and get all my speakers working again.

Pros: simple

Cons: space requirements, no rear sound.

Clean install, some missing features

Chris from Sacramento, CA on 1/25/2017

2008 Porsche Cayenne

Unit plugs in and works as stated. Specifically designed for Porsche Cayenne and what wasn't mentioned is that not all steering wheel controls will transfer to any head unit. I combined this with the new Pioneer APP Radio 4 and my seek and volume work on the wheel but the other 4 stereo buttons don't. Also, a big minus is that you lose fader control of your car speakers with this unit as it is not supported. I still think I would have purchased given limited options but its a real bummer not to be able to dial in my front/rear balance and should be mentioned. Stereo sounds good otherwise.

Pros: Retain factory wheel controls enable 3rd party head unit with Bose equipped porsche

Cons: Loss of some of the wheels controls No front/Rear fader adjusment

Crutchfield response on 1/31/2017
Thanks to Chris's review, we had Darren, our vehicle integration buyer, confirm that this Scosche interface does not retain the fader control due to Porsche's original setup. We're updating our presentation to reflect this more clearly.

Product Research

Features

Vehicle Compatibility: The Scosche PE02SR radio replacement interface module is designed specifically for 2002-2010 Porsche Cayenne (with factory Fiber Optic amplified audio system).

Retained Features: The Scosche PE02SR allows you to replace your factory stereo with an aftermarket receiver while retaining the vehicle's Fiber Optic amplified audio system and factory steering wheel controls (if the vehicle is equipped). This interface will also maintain the data-controlled +12V accessory output, as well as all safety & warning chimes, plus R.A.P.

  • Fiber Optic Amplifier System: The Scosche PE02SR lets you retain your vehicle's Fiber Optic amplified audio system.
  • +12V Accessory Output: In the Porsche Cayenne, there is no 12-volt accessory wire in the factory harness, which requires the installer to run an accessory wire to the fuse box or underneath the steering column when installing an aftermarket radio. The PE02SR is designed to provide a +12V accessory switched accessory output.
  • Retained Accessory Power (R.A.P.): The ignition power source of the Porsche Cayenne keeps the radio on until one of the doors is opened. This feature is called the R.A.P. (retained accessory power). The PE02SR is designed to retain this feature.
  • Safety & Warning Chimes: The PE02SR retains all safety & factory warning chimes.
  • Steering Wheel Controls: The PE02SR also includes a steering wheel control output, which allows you to keep your vehicle's factory steering wheel controls when replacing the factory radio with an aftermarket head unit that features a SWC input. No additional interface or programming is necessary.

Navigation Outputs: In addition, the PE02SR provides navigation outputs for reverse, vehicle speed pulse, and parking brake - making installation of aftermarket navigation receivers much simpler and less time consuming.

Wiring Color Chart: The following wires of the included wiring harness will need to be hardwired to your new aftermarket stereo's harness.
