5-Channel Discrete Amplification: The Sony STR-DH590's discrete 5-channel amplifier delivers high power and quality sound. It is rated at 90 watts (into 6Ω, @ 20-20kHz, with THD 0.09%, driving 2 channels). The power amplifier uses a glass-epoxy circuit board for reduced vibration and distortion, giving clear, high power from each of the discreet amplifiers. Every component in the STR-DH590 has been designed for detail and clarity.

    • Reinforced Metal Chassis: A reinforced frame and beam chassis design reduces transmitted vibration from speaker sound pressure for more focused, powerful sound. The metal framework and heat sink bracket shield the circuits from sound pressure and radiation, for high-rigidity and clearer sound quality.
    • Large Capacity Transformer & Specially Designed Heat Sink: The stereo receiver utilizes a large capacity power transformer built for clarity. The heat sink is specially designed to maximize air intake, keeping the amplifier circuit cool to reduce distortion and increase reliability

DCAC (Digital Cinema Auto Calibration): Digital Cinema Auto Calibration (DCAC) automatically optimizes sound based on where you sit in relation to your speakers, to help give you the best from your home theater system. The included microphone plugs into the receiver's front-panel 3.5mm mic input and then automatically checks for speaker connections, adjusts the speaker output levels, calculates the distance from each speaker to the listening position, and distinguishes frequency characteristics of each speaker. You can also choose to manually adjust the AV receiver's speaker settings.

Digital Signal Processing (DSP) & Supported Digital Audio Formats: The STR-DH590 incorporates a powerful DSP that supports the latest surround sound formats and ensures the highest accuracy in the decoding of a variety of Dolby Digital, DTS, DSD & PCM audio formats. The digital audio formats that this receiver can decode depending on the digital audio output jacks of the connected device. This receiver supports the following audio formats:

Digital Audio Connector Audio Signal Type Audio Signal Format
    HDMI (4 Inputs/1 Output) Linear PCM 2ch to 8ch, 32-192kHz, 16/20/24-bit
    DSD 2-6ch, 2.8MHz, 1-bit
Bitstream Dolby Digital, DTS, DTS 96/24
High Definition Audio Bitstream Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD,DTS-HD Master Audio,DTS-HD High Resolution
    Optical (1)/Coaxial (1) Linear PCM 2ch to 6ch, 32-96kHz, 16/20/24-bit
Bitstream Dolby Digital, DTS, DTS 96/24
Note: Even though the AV receiver will decode 7.1ch surround sound (via HDMI), it will only output 5.1ch surround, because it lacks Surround Back channel speaker outputs.

Dolby Pro Logic II: The Sony AV receiver supports Dolby Pro Logic II to enhance 2-channel and multichannel decoding formats. You can select between a Movie & Music mode.

Direct Stream Digital (DSD): Enjoy studio-quality sound thanks to the Direct Stream Digital (DSD) audio codec; designed specifically for High-Resolution Audio. This 1-bit format utilizes a stream of very high frequency 1s and 0s to recreate audio waveforms at a higher resolution than conventional codecs. The result is clearer, crisper, High-Resolution Audio quality. The STR-DH590 supports DSD 2.8 MHz (up to 5.1ch) decoding thru HDMI.

HD Digital Cinema Sound (HD-D.C.S): HD Digital Cinema Sound (HD-D.C.S.) is Sony's new innovative home theater technology using the latest acoustic and digital signal processing technologies. It is based on precise response measurement data of a mastering studio. With this mode, you are able to enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies at home with not only the high quality of sound, but also the best sound ambience, just as the movie's sound engineer intended in the mastering process. Select between the following HD-D.C.S modes -

    • For Movies:
      • Dynamic: This setting is suitable for an environment which is reverberant but lacks a spacious feel (where sound absorption is not sufficient). It emphasizes the reflection of sound and reproduces the sound of a large, classic movie theater. This emphasizes the spacious feel of a dubbing theater and creates a unique acoustic field.
      • Theater: This setting is suitable for a general living room. It reproduces the reverberation of sound just like in a movie theater (dubbing theater). It is most appropriate for watching content recorded on a Blu-ray Disc when you want the atmosphere of a movie theater.
      • Studio: This setting is suitable for a living room with the appropriate sound devices. It reproduces the reverberation of sound provided when a theatrical sound source is remixed for a Blu-ray Disc to a volume level suitable for home use. The level of reflection and reverberation of sound is kept to a minimum, while dialogues and surround effects are reproduced vividly.
    • For Music:
      • Hall: Reproduces the acoustics of a classical concert hall.
      • Jazz Club: Reproduces the acoustics of a jazz club.
      • Live Concert: Reproduces the acoustics of a 300-seat live house.
      • Stadium: Reproduces the feel of a large open-air stadium.
      • Sports: Reproduces the feel of sports broadcasting.
      • Audio Enhancer: Reproduces clear enhanced sound from your portable audio device. This mode is ideal for MP3s and other compressed music.

Stereo Modes: The STR-DH590 provides a 2-channel stereo mode, multichannel stereo mode, and a headphone 2ch mode.

    • 2-Channel Stereo: Plays back 2-channel audio signals without adding any surround effect. Monaural and multi-channel audio signals are output after being converted into a 2-channel signal.
    • Multi-Channel Stereo: When 2-channel or monaural audio signals are input, the receiver outputs sound from all speakers without adding any surround effect. When multi-channel audio signals are input, sound may not be output from certain speakers depending on the speaker settings or playback content.
    • Headphone 2ch: Plays back 2-channel audio signals without adding any surround effect. Sound from monaural and multichannel audio signals are output after being converted into a 2-channel signal (this mode is automatically selected when listening to headphones).

Direct Modes: The receiver's Direct mode outputs audio from only the front left and right speakers without any tone or DSP processing; only the volume and front speaker balance adjustments are active. To further enhance sound quality, the receiver's Pure Direct mode not only bypasses the tone and DSP processing, but also turns off the front-panel display to suppress any noise which may affect sound quality.

Audio Enhancements: The Sony STR-DH590 offers a variety of audio enhancements to help tailor the sound to your listening application.

    • Equalizer: You can adjust the tonal quality (bass & treble level) of the front speakers from -6dB to +6dB, in 1dB steps.
    • S-Force Pro Front Surround: Ideal for smaller rooms, S-Force PRO Front Surround delivers a virtual surround acoustic field using only two front speakers.
    • Night Mode: This function allows you to retain a theater like environment at low volume levels. When watching a movie late at night, you will still be able to hear the dialog clear even at a low volume level.
    • DRC (Dynamic Range Compressor): This feature allows you to compress the dynamic range of the sound track. You can select standard or maximum compression, or off (only works with Dolby Digital sources).
    • TV Volume Offset: If the level of the TV sound output from speakers connected to the receiver is lower than that of other devices connected to the receiver, you can increase the TV output sound level. This function works when you connect a TV compatible with the Audio Return Channel (ARC) function to the HDMI TV Out jack, or connect a TV to the Optical In jack or Audio TV In jacks.

Audio Outputs: The Sony STR-DH590 is fitted with the following audio outputs.

    • Speaker Terminals: The receiver is equipped with binding post terminals for the front L/R speaker outputs, and spring-clip terminals for the center and surround L/R speaker outputs. The binding post terminals will accept bare wire (up to 10 AWG), pin-connectors, and banana plugs (single only). The spring-clip terminals will accept bare wire (up to 12AWG) and pin-connectors. Use speakers with a 6- to 16-ohm impedance.
    • Dual Sub Outputs: The AV receiver is fitted with two subwoofer preamp outputs to connect dual powered subs (the subwoofer outputs share the same input signal and are not discrete).
    • Front-Panel Headphone Jack: When headphones are plugged into the full-size 1/4" jack on the front panel, all the speakers are automatically muted.

Volume Range: The Sony AV receiver has a volume range of 1 (Min) to 73 (Max).

    Video Section

HDMI 2.0a: The receiver is equipped with four HDMI 2.0a inputs and one HDMI 2.0a monitor output for connecting HDMI-equipped audio/video component; such as your satellite/cable receiver, Blu-ray/DVD player, and game system; plus your TV. The receiver's HDMI 2.0a jacks are compatible with 4K/60Hz video, 4:4:4 color subsampling, HDR (High Dynamic Range) & BT.2020 video, & HDCP 2.2.

    • 4K/60Hz Pass-Through: 4K/60Hz pass-through allows the Sony STR-DH590 to receive ultra high-definition resolution video and pass the video signal to a 4K/60Hz compatible TV or display monitor. It will also pass a 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p video signal.
    • HDCP 2.2: HDCP 2.2 is supported by all of the receiver's HDMI jacks. HDCP 2.2 is short for "High bandwidth Digital Content Protection" and is used for 4K video copyright protection for compatibility with Ultra HD Blu-ray players and 4K Satellite/Cable providers.
    • 4:4:4 Color Subsampling: The receiver's HDMI jacks support RGB, YCbCr 4:4:4 color subsampling for more vibrant and lifelike images, as well as YCbCr 4:2:2 and YCbCr 4:2:0 color subsampling. With 4:4:4, luminance (brightness) and chroma (color) are sampled at the same rate, resulting in an RGB color palette as big as the video sampling rate for a video image with more total colors, plus greater color accuracy and detail.
    • Wide Color Gamut (BT.2020): The BT.2020 color standard delivers a much wider color gamut and represents about 75% of the total visual color spectrum, while the current Rec. 709 color standard selected as the color space for HDTVs and early generation 4K Ultra HDTVs covers only 35% of the total visual color spectrum.
Note: When you use high bandwidth video formats (such as 4K/60p 4:4:4, 4:2:2 and 4K/60p 4:2:0 10-bit), be sure to set the HDMI signal format to "ENHANCED".

HDR (High Dynamic Range): HDR (High Dynamic Range) reproduces a greater dynamic range of luminosity or brightness levels, bringing greater contrast & wider color spectrum to the screen. This increased contrast reveals the subtle nuances of the image, from detailed blacks and shadows to the brightest whites and colors, plus greater depth. Previously hidden areas of dark shadow and sunlight are now full of clarity and detail.

    • HDR 10: HDR 10 is an open standard and currently the most popular HDR format on the market. It supports 10-bit color and 1,000 nits. It uses static metadata at the start of a movie to tell the receiver and your TV that the video content is encoded using HDR.
    • HLG (Hybrid-Log Gamma): HLG (Hybrid-Log Gamma) is primarily designed for live video feed and over-the-air broadcasts. It uses no pre-encoded metadata and is backwards compatible with SDR. HLG's native compatibility allows much of today's existing SDR infrastructure to be re-used for HDR in the future.
    • Dolby Vision: Unlike HDR 10 which contains static metadata and HLG which uses not metadata, Dolby Vision adjusts brightness, color, and contrast automatically for each scene. Dynamic metadata carries information that maps every image to your TV's display capabilities, so you see more of what the content creator intended.
Note: Use a premium high-speed 18Gbps HDMI cable for the best 4K/HDR performance.

Other HDMI Features: Other HDMI features of the Sony STR-DH590 receiver include 3D video, HDMI Standby Pass-Through, A/V Sync, and ARC.

    • 3D-Ready: The Sony AV receiver supports 3D video pass-through (720p/1080p only) from connected 3D-compatible Blu-ray, games and broadcast devices to 3D-compatible HDTVs (all 3D components must be connected via HDMI). Special eyewear will be required for viewing 3D content.
    • HDMI Standby Pass-Through: The HDMI Standby Pass-Through feature conveniently allows you to access all your HDMI connected devices without having to power on the receiver.
    • AV Sync: The audio output can be delayed (60ms) so that the time gap between the audio output and the visual display is minimized. This is especially helpful when you are using a large flat-panel TV or a projection screen.
    • ARC (Audio Return Channel): This feature of the HDMI monitor output allows audio to be sent from your compatible HDTV to your receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio and video to your HDTV. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to your television.

No Analog Video Inputs/Outputs: The Sony STR-DH590 contains no analog composite or component video inputs/ outputs.

    Built-in Bluetooth & FM Tuner

Bluetooth Audio Streaming: The Sony STR-DH590 features built-in Bluetooth 4.2 with support for A2DP 1.2 and AVRCP 1.6. You'll be able to wirelessly stream stored music, music apps, and other audio content from your Bluetooth source device (smartphone, tablet, laptop, etc.) to the stereo receiver. You can pair up to ten devices with the Sony STR-DH590, but only one can be connected and used for playback at a time. The STR-DH590 has a wireless Bluetooth range of approximately 98.4'.

    • SBC + AAC Codecs: In addition to support for the standard SBC Bluetooth audio codec, the STR-DH590 offers support of AAC. By supporting AAC, the AV receiver offers better audio performance of the music streamed from your Apple iPod, iPhone, or iPad.
    • Playback Control: You'll be able to control Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track, Fast Forward/Rewind, and Stop functions from the included IR remote. Advanced music browsing will still need to be handled from your Bluetooth source device.
    • Bluetooth Standby: With Bluetooth Standby, you can even turn the AV receiver on from your paired smartphone or tablet.
Note: The STR-DH590 does not display song/artist/album information on its front-panel LCD screen or your HDMI-connected TV; continue to use your Bluetooth source device's screen to view song/artist info.

FM Tuner: The Sony STR-DH590 AV receiver is equipped with a built-in FM tuner with 30 digital presets, station naming (up to 8 characters), and auto tuning. You can switch between Stereo & Mono mode. An FM wire antenna is included. This receiver is not equipped with an AM tuner.

    Remote & Convenience Features

On-Screen Menu (via HDMI): You can display the menu of the receiver on your HDMI connected TV screen and select the function you want to use from the on-screen menu using the included IR remote control.

IR Remote + Bravia Sync: The supplied IR remote provides wireless operation Sony's Bravia Sync feature allows you to easily manage select BRAVIA televisions and Sony HDMI audio and video components with a single remote. By connecting Sony components that are compatible with the HDMI Control function with a HDMI cable, operation is simplified in the following ways.

    • One-Touch-Play: When you play content on a device (such as a Blu-ray player) connected to the receiver; the receiver and the TV are turned on automatically, the input of the receiver is switched to the input of the device being played, and sound is output from the speakers connected to the receiver.
    • System Audio Control: If you turn on the receiver while you are watching a connected TV, the TV sound will be output from the speakers connected to the receiver. Q
Is it possible to have multiple inputs enabled at the same time?
    chris  Nov 26, 2023
    1 answer
    A
Greetings Chris. thank you for your question. This model Sony is a single zone receiver, only one input can be used at any given time. If you need two inputs going to two different sets of speakers, maybe in two rooms, you need a 2 zone receiver.

    Q
Can a microphone be used fr karaoke?
    jonathan  Oct 21, 2023
    1 answer
    A
This Sony STR-DH590 5.2-channel home theater receiver does not have any microphone inputs, Jonathan. This Sony is best used in a home theater environment, but if you want something specifically for Karaoke the JBL Partybox on-the-go in the link below is an excellent option. It is a stand-alone powered Bluetooth portable speaker that comes with a wireless microphone included, check it out! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_109PBOXOTG/JBL-PartyBox-On-The-Go.html

I'm intrested in this reciever for my outdoor set up, i have a tv and some 2 klipsch aw650 in covered portion of my patio and noticed this reciever is a min of 6 ohms n mt speaker run at 8 ohms will this reciever be a good match for my set up? I have a regular stereo amp powering them now and want to add a sub hence me looking at this reciever.. suggestions?
    herb  Oct 14, 2023
    1 answer
    A
Greetings Herb. Thank you for your question. I'm hoping this receiver will be doors as its not rated for outdoor use. The minimum impedance is 6 ohms, anything lower than that makes the receiver overheat. Your speakers are 8 ohms, and if all you are connecting are the two speakers, the receiver will run at 8 ohms, which is above the minimum 6 ohms.

You can use the "2-channel stereo" mode on the Sony STR-DH590 receiver Mary, that will only play the left and right main speakers. If you want to enjoy multi-channel modes you cannot turn the center off completely, but you can adjust the level as low as possible from the speaker settings menu. I hope this helps!

    Q
I want to marry this to my Sony Bravia and JBL -L/R/C/Sub to do 3.1 so I have 3 Questions 1. In the owners manual it says to set your sub at max crossover-either 120 or LFE- but I do not see a crossover setting like I have on my Marantz to pre set at 60 hz----so how do you set the low pass if it says to crank the subs setting to high? 2. Can you adjust the center channel volume to be higher than the Land R like on a Marantz or Yamaha? 3. Can you use banana plugs for the left/right/center? Thanks in advance
    doug  Feb 18, 2023
    1 answer
    A
Low-pass settings are controlled via the receiver, which eliminates the need for using the subwoofers internal crossover. You may adjust individual speaker level via the receiver's settings. The Center and L/R Surround channels feature spring terminals, which will not allow for banana connectors. Only the Front L/R channels support banana connectors.

Can I get the subwoofer to kick on with only a stereo signal such as a turntable?
    donald  Jan 10, 2023
    1 answer
    A
That is a good question, Donald. If you select a different sound field other than 2ch stereo or Direct for analog inputs, you can send a signal to the subwoofer. Multi-channel stereo would be a great choice here. Make sure the subwoofer is powered on, and you have done the room calibration setup with the subwoofer, and you are golden! If you have any setup issues also feel free to call our Technical Support line at 1-888-292-2575 and an agent can help, you get that technical support for life!

When linked to a Sony Bravia TV, will the Xfinity remote run the volume on the receiver?
    rjb2vt  Jan 04, 2023
    1 answer
    A
Greetings Rjb2VT, and thank you for your question. I would not have an iron clad answer to this question as we do not have the Xfinity remotes to run the test. The Sony STR-DH590 has Sony Sync, so your TVs remote if your TV has Sony Sync would operate the receiver and the receivers remote would operate the TV as well. Buy thats Sony, and Sony using Sony Sync. Perhaps Xfinity would have a better answer for this.

I have 2 front speakers (Bose 301) of 75W (8 Ohms) each. 2 surround speakers (Bose 161) of 50W (6 Ohms) each. And a center speaker (Bose VCS-10) of 50W (6 Ohms). Will these speakers match with the Sony STR-DH590?
    timo88  Jan 02, 2023
    1 answer
    A
This should work nicely with your collection of Bose speakers. Based on our documentation of the various speakers, it appears the Bose 161 and VCS-10 speakers were designed to work with receivers that support 4- to 8-ohm impedance and output up to 100w. The Bose 301 speakers offer the same 4- to 8-ohm rating and can handle up to 150w.

I have a Samsung 4k TV with hdr. I also have a Xbox series x and a PS5. Will this receiver let me pass through the 4k and HDR signals to the 4K/HDR TV without problems? Thanks for your time.
    junito  Nov 13, 2022
    1 answer
    A
This receiver features HDMI 2.0, which will technically allow passage of 4K and HDR with your PS5 and Series X. However, there will be some limitations on framerate. Although few games at this time offer 120Hz framerate, some big-name titles are offering this option via HDMI 2.1. More are sure to come. As a fellow gamer, I would advise a model with HDMI 2.1 pass-through to better serve your needs now and later. Does the receiver have a high pass filter option so I can only >= 80 HZ to my stereo speaker? I would think this would protect the stereo speakers and let a sub do the heavy lifting. Thanks! Dana
    dana  Nov 07, 2022
    1 answer
    A
This does Dana. I actually own this unit, and this Sony impressed me majorly for what they deliver performance wise at this price point. I am often comparing it to units that are 2 and three times the price. You will get a full room setup program that will most likely apply that filter automatically, but if you setup the Sony manually you can select "small" for the speaker size and that will send only the low frequencies to the subwoofer.

    Q
When I turn unit off at night, it turns itself back on during the night. What is causing this?
    jerry  Nov 01, 2022
    1 answer
    A
This could be a few potential reasons, Jerry. This could have to do with the gear you have it connected to through HDMI turning the unit on through its CEC control feature. If you have a few different sources (TV through ARC, cable box, DVD player, game system) try physically disconnecting one each night from HDMI to see if the unit stops automatically turning on. This will help you to isolate which piece of gear could be potentially turning it on unwanted and potentially turn the CEC control off in that particular unit specifically if you can. This happens a lot especially with cable boxes it seems. If none of that troubleshooting identifies a fix, you can always connect to your TV with a toslink optical cable bypassing HDMI and turn off CEC control on the Sony. This is a compromise as it would mean you would have to power it (and other additional connected gear) on manually each time but would stop any other gear from turning it on with a CEC control signal as those pulses pass over the HDMI cable. I hope this helps Jerry!

Can I hook up a vhs/dvd player to this receiver? Thank you
    chacosun  Oct 12, 2022
    1 answer
    A
That depends on the specific player, Carole. This Sony does not have any component or analog video inputs. Unless your combo player or VHS/DVD gear has an HDMI output you will not be able to connect with the Sony. This Denon AVR-S960H in the link below is a little more expensive, but it does have standard RCA video inputs and component video inputs that would potentially allow you to connect your VHS gear. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_033AVS960H/Denon-AVR-S960H.html

    chuck  Oct 02, 2022
    1 answer
    A
Greetings Chuck, and thank you for your question. Most IR repeaters will have a sensor to pick up your remotes signal, run it thru a hub, then out to a flasher. That flasher would need to repeat the remote command and flash the sensor on the front of the receiver. Of course the flasher will need access to the front panel of the Sony STR-DH590.

What External amplifier is compatible with this receiver?
    mark  Oct 02, 2022
    1 answer
    A
Greetings Mark, and thank you for your question. The Sony STR-DH590 only has the preamp outputs for a subwoofer or two. All that will come out those is bass. Thats not going to work out well unless its for a subwoofer. The only other outputs are already amplified to go to passive speakers. If you wanted to bypass the Sony's built in amplifier, you would need an amplifier that could take speaker level in, which is pretty rare to find, or a device that converts the speaker level to an RCA level, then run the RCA to your external amp.

I'm pretty new to stereo equipment. Can this receiver take speaker wire with banana plugs? I bought a Sony STR-DH590 receiver, Jamo S 803 speakers, and then the Crutchfiled 14 gauge speaker wire (10 ft long). At this time, I don't think they're compatible? But since I'm a neophyte to the audio world, I may just not know what I'm doing. I also have a Audio-Technica LP-120XUSB turntable. Works great with the Yamaha rx v385 - if that matters.

The front speaker connections will support both Banana Jacks which just push right into the connector or stripped lead (by using the red and black banana jacks as finger nuts) and inserting the stripped wire into the smaller holes in the sides of the connection posts. The surround sound and center connections are stripped lead only and use a spring loaded "clamp" connection. The Sub Woofer is strictly a single RCA (circular) jack plug-in connection. Check your manual as there may be impedance conflicts with some of your speakers.

This receiver does not have a phono input which means that a phono preamp is needed to connect a turntable. Some turntables have them built in (like that Music Hall model) while others do not which requires an external phono-preamp. Then it can be plugged into any of the analog audio inputs. I like Charles' idea of using the CD input as its seems like that easiest to remember input name.

Yes, you can run this in 2 channel stereo, with an output of 105 watts per channel. Oddly, in surround mode, this will output 145 watts per channel for front, center, and rear speakers. So, no, you will not have increased power in stereo only mode.

Is the sub producing NO sound? This is a shot in the dark... I lost sound in my sub once, and it was caused by switching the speaker size. If you have satellite speaker with an independent sub, you want to choose [Small] Large: If you connect large speakers that will effectively reproduce bass frequencies, select [Large]. Select [Large] usually. Small: If the sound is distorted or you hear a lack of surround effects when using multi channel surround sound, select [Small]. You can activate the bass redirection circuitry and output the bass frequencies of each channel from the subwoofer or other [Large] speakers. Hope this helps.

The STR-DH590 will deliver a maximum continuous output of 90 watts each into 2 channels at 8 ohms. The momentary peak output for sound effects or particularly demanding passages of music might exceed this, but isn't given by Sony. This rating also means that the maximum continuous output into 8 ohms for 5 channels is quite a bit less than 90 watts, probably something like 40 or 50 watts per channel with even demand.

In order to listen to any the streaming sources like Apple Music, Spotify, etc., you will need to have a subscription to those streaming services. The Sony STR-DH590 does have Bluetooth for wireless audio streaming, but does not come with built-in support for any streaming apps or programs.

Hi Heather, thank you for your question. The Sony STR-DH950 receiver is only capable of a 6ohm minimum impedance. You may want to check out the Denon AVR-X3500H. This receiver is capable of delivering power to a 4ohm speaker, and has a little more power than the Sony. If you would like to discuss this model, or perhaps get personalized product advice on another receiver, please get in touch with an Advisor via online chat, or by phone at 1-800-324-9695. USB Charging Port: There is a rear-panel USB-A (5V/1A) port that can be used to charge the battery of your smartphone or other USB-enabled portable device. You can't stream via the USB port. You have to connect via Bluetooth to Stream.

Rick, You do not have to run two subs. One sub can be run and may be totally adequate. Depends on room size and acoustics, quality of sub, etc. Try it with one, and get a second one if you feel it's necessary. Hope this helped.

I'm looking at the Sony UBP X800 to pair with my TCL 4k TV. Unfortunately, the two realistically only have HDMI for audio and my Sony Amp is to old to have HDMI. The Sony STR DN590 looks like it should do what I need. I am still using Yamaha speakers I got from you quite some time ago. The next factor is that I believe the 590 seems to want you to pass the audio/video through the Amp and it seems more prudent to send DVD to TV then go from TV to Amp. So, am I looking at the right components? (I presume you can send them together...)
    michael  May 30, 2019
    1 answer
    A
Yes you are on the right track. If your amp doesn't have HDMI inputs you will need to connect that UPB-X800 directly to the HDMI input on the TV and then output the audio (probably via optical digital) to the Sony. You can connect with one of our friendly product advisors to make sure you have all the pieces you'll need for a complete installation: https://bit.ly/2QNxGQB

Hi J., I honestly don't know the answer to this question. I presume that you can. It depends on the connection on your record player. On my old receiver, I could connect a record player. Best of luck.

paul garcia de  May 19, 2019

You say "record player" so I assume you mean a turntable without a built-in phono preamp. The answer is no, the Sony does not have a phono pre amp onboard so it won't work with a turntable.

Simply plug your speaker wires into the back of the sony. There are several inputs available or you can change your speaker terminals to fit. There are plenty of pictures of the back of the STR-DH5 that you can review. It's basically the same as most receivers.

The receiver has an HDMI output. You can't purchase an HDMI mail to a three RCA video or audio AV connection. There is also a powered 1080 HDMI to HDMI optical an SPDIF plus RCA left/right extractor converter audio splitter. I would try the splitter to see if you can get the signals you require to your audio system from your HDMI output.
