Large icons on the screen help you find what you want with just a glance.

Say hello to Siri

With built-in Bluetooth® connectivity, this smartphone-friendly receiver creates a wireless link between your mobile device and your car's audio system, allowing you to stream the music and podcasts you love. With a compatible iPhone® and a wired connection, you can use your voice to control Siri® Eyes Free through the receiver. You'll be able to control music, maps, calls, and messages just by talking to Siri. When Siri talks back, you'll hear the response through the car's speakers.

Awesome for Android Auto

Android users will love this Sony too. You can use voice commands to dictate messages, answer important calls, or use Google Maps to get directions. You can even control music playback with voice control.

Sweet Sony sound

A powerful amp brings depth and dynamics to your music collection. The rich, full sound will even make factory speakers sound better, so imagine the improvement you'll hear when you add aftermarket models to your car or truck. Sony's Extra Bass ensures that you'll hear the thump you expect from your favorite tunes.

You can adjust the 10-band equalizer to optimize the acoustics in your vehicle, or quickly access the preset tone curves to get the sound you want. You can even improve the soundstage by creating "virtual speakers" on your dashboard with the Dynamic Stage Organizer.

Ergonomically outstanding

Distracted driving is a bad thing, so Sony designed this receiver to keep you in touch with your entertainment while you keep your eyes on the road. You use the conveniently located rotary dial to control the volume, or push the knob in to access the receiver's extensive sound control menus. You'll hold that same button to use voice commands for your smartphone.

Whatever you're doing, the big 6.4" color touchscreen looks great and gives you fast, fingertip control over your favorite onscreen functions. All in all, the look and feel of this receiver is really impressive.

Add a backup camera

Rear-view cameras are getting more popular all the time, and the XAV-AX100 comes with a dedicated rear camera input. Customizable guide lines on the screen will help you back up with confidence, even if you're piloting a large SUV.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Despite not having a "blueprint" layout from Crutchfield to install the unit into my 20-year old landcruiser that I can't part with, they tech service folks walked me through the installation. That alone is worth five-stars. Had to YouTube how to remove the fascia first and that was straightforward. Though I haven't tested CarPlay, I can tell you that AndroidAuto works great. Love the unit so far, especially the equalizer! No more cassette adapter! Welcome to the 21st century!

    Pros:

Cons: Slightly difficult to see screen during the day (with sunglasses on).

Excellent head unit. Fitted perfectly into my 04 wrx. I am using a scoshe harness and driving JVC CS-DR421 speaks and a Kicker sub through a Kenwood Excelon X801-5 amplifier.

Pros: Easy to use. Responsive. Clear controls. Great sound.

Cons: Not that loud. I used an amp to drive higher rated speakers and a sub.

Great sound quality, and the iPhone Car Play integration is fantastic. My only nitpick is that the volume knob is a bit small, and the face of the unit did not match the angle of the two installation kits I had available. I replaced previously installed unit in my Ford F-250, so used the older kit I already had since it interfered with the volume knob less.

Great sounding, easy install. The only reason for not giving a 5 star rating would be the lack of a front side USB port, as well as for having only one USB port.

Pros: Sounds great, CarPlay is flawless.

Cons: As mentioned earlier, more options for usb connectivity would have been preferred.

Great headunit. Installed one in my car and truck, and plan on putting one also in my sister's car. Very simple and easy to use. It can be a little sluggish sometimes when I use the Google assistant, but I'm thoroughly satisfied with this product especially for it's price point.

Pros: Very simplistic and looks like it came from the factory in your vehicle

    Cons: Google assistant sluggish sometimes

Excellent Car Play head unit. Ordered remote steering controls and had the Crutchfield team prepare the harness for me. The items arrived and I installed into my 2004 4runner by following the instructions provided. It took me about 3 hours total and the results are impressive. Remote volume controls weren't working after install. I called the support line and they had me change some settings and it began working right away. I tested the unit before putting the trim and everything back together. I suggest doing the same or you will be frustrated if you need to remove it to change anything. Overall excellent sound improvement over stock head unit. I am very pleased with the outcome. Beautiful fit and finish, well designed and quality Japanese manufacturing, latest CarPlay. Great way to bring your older vehicle into the modern age! One other note: my factory head unit was getting very poor reception. With the new Sony I have none of those problems, great am/fm reception. So I got that going for me...

Pros: easy to install easy to use latest tech from apple Really modernized my older vehicle

Cons: USB coming off the front of the unit is kind of obnoxious when plugged in. Not sure how they could have solved it otherwise.

I installed this in my 2011 GMC Acadia, I purchased the entire kit so my steering wheel controls would function with the new radio. The install was fairly straight forward using the Crutchfield wiring harness and the Metra face plate. I had to modify the face plate so the radio would extend further out so that it was flush with the outside edge of the bracket. I used a dremel to take about 1/8th of an inch or 3mm off the back of the bracket otherwise the volume knob was unusable. The radio sounds amazing even using the stock GMC speakers! I love being able to dump my playlists on a memory stick and play them, or use Carplay to listen to Amazon music via my phone. I've watched a full length movie on it as a test while waiting for someone to get out of class (Daughter). You can customize the radio's wallpaper with any jpeg file you have too! It's everything you know and love about Sony, the sound is beyond my expectations and I absolutely love being able to watch video on it, use Amazon music, Google Maps, Waze, and Apple Maps via Carplay from my iPhone. It will even read your text messages out loud for you too =] My pictures show the radio installed with the factory bracket showing how recessed it is, you can't even use the volume nob! The second picture is post medications showing the radio almost flush with the bracket, I'm really happy with it. The third and fourth picture shows background one I added and a stock one.

Pros: Has a volume knob!!! =] This radio has great sound! Carplay apps that the radio can use! Gives you Nav and music via your phone, works for both tethererd USB (Charges your phone too) or via Bluetooth wirelessly! 10 band EQ to custom tailor your sound and includes Bass Boost mode! Install was simple once I realized I wouldn't use any of the Sony supplied install cables since I bought the custom harness from Crutchfield!

Cons: The required Metra face plate needs to be modified for this radio to fit so the driver can easily turn the volume knob. Radio doesn't clearly have an off button. You press the Home button down for 2 seconds to turn off the radio. I've had the radio for a week and my daughter already lost the remote. Need to have a leash on the remote so kids can't lose them! =]

I ordered a Sony headunit and Boyo backup camera back in Feb 2019 from Crutchfield (CF). I dropped my car off with the CF ordered equipment to my local shop (LS) for the install. The LS got everything installed however could not get the steering wheel controls to work. They troubleshooted the issue with the manufacturer of the PAC module and both thought it was an issue with the headunit. So I got my car back from the LS with everything working but the steering wheel controls. I called CF, they had me reprogram the PAC module (~2+hours) and wanted to try replacing the module first. After I received the PAC module, I called CF again for programming/install guidance (~2+ hours). At this point, CF realized the Sony XAV headunit was the culprit. After I received the replacement JVC KW-M750BT headunit (Sony out of stock), I called CF again for tech sup (~2+hours). Everything seemed to work well but started having camera issues within a day or two. I called CF again (~1hour), we thought we figured out the problem but issues persisted. I ended up finally taking my vehicle to the LS again. The LS determined it was a bad RCA connection. I went with one of the LS camera units they had in stock vs waiting for a replacement from CF. TLDR: Due to a faulty headunit and backup camera, spent ~7+hours with CF support and ~$300+ in labor at the LS. Despite CF customer service being great, I overall had a pretty terrible experience.

This unit is great if you use car play constantly like I do. It's especially great if you enjoy a unit that constantly freezes and resets randomly. Sony's customer support is a joke. The solution is to ship the unit back to them and wait 7-10 business days for a replacement. If I were you I'd spend your hard earned money on a different unit if not brand all together.

The Negative: Twice in probably 16 hours of usage, I've had the bluetooth symbol on the display, but when a call came in, it said bluetooth not connected and routed the call back to the phone. It's an easy fix by simply turning off bluetooth and then re-enabling it- but you can't really do that while driving (legally in TN anyways). Once in 16 hours when attempting to play through YouTube music via AndroidAuto (Pixel 3 phone), it stated that there was a problem and to try again, but then commenced to playing anyways :/ Why not leave the stations labeled by their call number rather than a small portion of RDS for favorites? It makes identifying a station very, very difficult. The Positive: Everything else. It's a great head unit. Glare isn't a factor given the placement in my HHR. The bass boost option is nice as well as the equalizer. Installation was easy- I utilized the wiring harness connection that Crutchfield offers and it was worth the extra 25 bucks. 30 minutes and the new stereo was installed.

    Pros: See above.

    Cons: See above.

This unit is exactly what I needed. I don't need a CD player. All my music is on my phone. Apple Car Play is great on it. If you have dual sub woofers, then you will need an RCA splitter to connect the interface harness sub cables to the single input.

Pros: Looks like OEM. Love the ability to customize the wallpaper. Great phone/iPod interface

Cons: Presets on tuner doesn't display radio frequency. FYI, don't connect the reverse wire if you don't have a backup camera video feed connected

    1999 Lexus LS400

    Verified customer (What's this?)
    Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

The Sony XAV-AX100 went into my 1999 Lexus LS400. This stereo does nearly everything that I hoped for. The essentials that I needed were Bluetooth compatibility and Apple CarPlay, along with a responsive touchscreen and external volume knob. I went with the XAV-AX100 over the XAV-AX1000 because the USB port was in the front with the 1000, while the USB port was in the back with the 100. The 100 appears to be an older design though, and owners complained about the boot-up times. The 1000 is supposed to have significantly shorter boot times, but I wanted a clean install look. While the volume knob is small, it's easy to find with my fingers while keeping my eyes on the road. The touchscreen is responsive, and I appreciate the ability to adjust the sensitivity in the settings menu. The unit sounds great! I use my iPhone 99.9% of the time. Boot up takes about 10 - 15 seconds from the moment my car starts to the moment the stereo beings playing whatever's on my iPhone. I did two test calls - one in the garage and one on the road. In both instances, the caller noted I sounded good, without sounding like I was on a Bluetooth device. I have the microphone installed in the upper corner where the A-pillar meets the roof and windshield. I lost my CD player, unfortunately. I'd play CDs .1% of the time. It's a small loss greatly outweighed by the new functionality. Lastly, the dimmer works only with the headlights, not the dash-dim knob to control dash lighting.

Pros: Boots reasonably quickly Great sound Sensitive touch screen BT works great when iPhone not connected Call sound quality is good to me and to the caller External volume knob "Home" button to quickly get to settings or the radio tuner (different than iPhone home button).

Cons: Can not add an external CD player (that I can see). While the screen dimmer works when the car's headlights are turned on, the XAV-AX100 is not connected with the dash dim sensor. In the morning or at dusk, when I have my headlights on, there may be enough ambient light for the car's light sensor to keep the dash and HVAC lights bright but the Sony will be dim. The Sony also isn't connected to the dash-dim knob as the OEM unit was. Making small lighting changes has no effect on the unit.

Was looking for a replacement for my previous radio that was beginning to act wonky. So wanted to replace it before it died on me completely. This seemed to be at a good price point and still offer a lot of modern features. Really wanted something that supported Android Auto. This does, but having just the single USB port means I have to yank out my regular flash drive when I want to use it with navigation. Not ideal but can work around that most of the time. Really love the fact that this has a real physical knob for volume, so it is always quick and easy to adjust regardless of whatever else is going on. As most people comment, the startup is a bit slow, but the touchscreen is pretty responsive otherwise. Very annoying that the warning screen pops up every single time it is started up. More than adequate power for driving speakers I already had and has decent sound quality.

Pros: Screen size, good balance of features and price. Physical volume knob is huge convenience.

Cons: A little slow to startup, about 15 seconds. No HD radio. Only one USB and will not work with a hub. Get rid of stupid warning message at startup!

Replaced my factory radio with this model and I was amazed at the difference. I had not realised how much my factory radio had lost over the years I wa thinking of replacing my factory speakers but this radio has made me wait because what I thought were dead speakers actually work good. I will replace them eventually. I wired it all up and had to call tech as I had more wiring harness from the original than new harness. Tech was able to walk me through it and it works great

Exactly what I was looking for. The Sony XAV-AX100 has a very simple user interface- it's not cluttered like some other units I've looked at. Sony keeps it very simple. I had a 10 year old single-DIN Kenwood radio (still works!) that I wanted to replace with something that has Apple CarPlay. The simple design and appearance of the exterior really caught my attention, including the volume knob. The final deciding factor for me was the USB port/cable connection from the rear of the unit. I noticed another model (XAV-AX1000) has the USB port on the front of the unit, but in my tiny Cavalier commuter car, that would have put the USB cord right in my way. I am completely satisfied with this radio. The touch screen is responsive, and the radio responds quickly to input ( it doesn't take time to "think" about it), the fade/balance control is quick and responsive, the EQ controls are nice, and I like the quick shortcut options when pressing the volume button. I am not personally bothered by the startup time. It takes roughly 15-20 seconds to startup, and considering I'm starting the car and doing other things when I get in the car, it's not a big deal. Besides, most modern infotainment systems have some sort of startup cycle they all go through that takes time. That's just the way it is. Overall, I've got a great radio with a touch interface that runs Apple CarPlay flawlessly. I've had it running for over a month and I love this thing!

Pros: >Supports Apple CarPlay >Simple to use >Responsive touch interface >No-clutter user interface >Clean and simple exterior user controls

Cons: >Small volume knob- it could be a little bigger for big fingers.

Really nice unit. I never used the CD slot in my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee so it's not missed now either. Carplay is sweet, first time using it. I was using Waze and the apple podcast app every single day on my commute to and from work so not having to mess with my phone in order to use those apps is really life-changing. Also cleaned up the mess of wires I had from running a bluetooth adapter to the stock AUX port before upgrading to this. Nice screen angle in my jeep. Bluetooth connectivity works great if you don't want to use carplay. Love being able to upload my own background image. Nice EQ range, but took some tweaking to get it sounding right. Word to the wise- Not sure what mounting brackets other vehicles use, but the ones for my jeep suck. They stick out past the front of this receiver making the volume knob practically useless. I did take a dremel to them before installing to sink them back a bit, but it's still not ideal for me. This doesn't have anything to do with the receiver itself though, so no stars are being docked for it from this review.

Pros: -Carplay has worked flawlessly for my iPhone XS. -voice clarity of hands-free is really nice.

Cons: -Startup time. Easily 15 seconds until you can use the unit once you turn your car on. -Really finicky when updating the firmware. Tried 3 different flash drives until one worked to get it updated. I recommend 16gb or larger. Definitely overkill, but the 1, 2 and 4 gb ones all didn't work and I had seen other people had issues with an 8GB one.

I researched many receivers for my truck. I wanted it to be budget friendly but have what I wanted in a receiver. The menu is easy to navigate and uses large icons for easy reading and pressing. The biggest negative is the initial boot up time. It takes a good 7-10 seconds to get to the main screen.

Pros: Large icons Easy to navigate

I decided that I was going to invest on a transmission for an 2005 Odyssey to avoid a car note but I knew I'd need to update the radio. I came here to Crutchfield for a stereo solution because their research on your vehicle is second to none! I picked the XAV-AX100 for CarPlay as I didn't need/want navigation, satellite radio or DVD capability. I opted for the 'Most Features' when putting the deck into my cart. I did shop around for better prices which I did find but ultimately I chose to buy from Crutchfield. They have two day shipping and give you directions on how to install your stereo for your vehicle. After receiving my order, I got right to it. It took 6 hours from the moment I opened the box to the time I had it completely installed. For those of you that have the same vehicle, I did a slight modification to the Dash Kit. I drilled a hole and mounted the microphone from behind so the microphone was flush with the kit. For the money I was spending, I didn't want to route a wire around the back of the console and dash to hang a mic on the visor. If you get the steering wheel control adapter, there are two wires you need to connect that are NOT on the METRA Wire harness. I don't know if you purchase the Ready Harness from Crutchfield if it will be added. I pulled two wires from an old wire harness and installed it into the METRA harness to avoid cutting into and splicing on the car side of the harness. I made the wife happy...Happy wife, happy life.

Pros: -The volume knob and ability to fast forward and rewind with physical buttons on the deck. -Compatible with both iOS and Android. -Classy and simple that is not overdone or flashy and looks almost stock. -Keeping the ability to use the stock steering wheel controls through the Steering Wheel Adapter is great. -The dash kit fits and looks like it belongs.

Cons: -Only one USB Port. Would have liked two.

A Refined Gem with a Nice Balance of Features

    2011 Ford Escape

    Verified customer (What's this?)
    Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

This unit has a lot going for it. For starters, it is only single DIN size behind the double-DIN screen. That means space for tight dashes. Secondly, it has very bright and clear screen. The interface is extremely intuitive. Let's face it, having a volume knob is a genuine plus for those of us that will never get used to a head unit without it. Finally, the things it leaves out aren't really needed anymore. With Android Auto or Apple CarPlay , you have quick access to navigation, phone, all sorts of common streaming media apps, etc. Finally, it sound good. It has a perfect balance of EQ and bass boost functions that really nail what a lot of systems need without trying to duplicate higher-end functions normally reserved for other components. I have mine linked to a DSP running to a 5-channel amp powering 4 Polk MM572 and a couple of their 10" subwoofers. I spent three weeks sound proofing and generally being extremely diligent about install details, applying best practices from years of experience and online experts. The result is phenomenal sound. It easily bests any high-end system in any car you might buy today (and I have a 2019 RAM limited with the top end system in it). The Dynamic Sound Stage discernibly elevates the image but, let's be honest, can't fix localization so limited by placement in a 2011 Ford Escape. To boot, mine was a scratch and dent. To say it is a value is a huge understatement.

Pros: Screen, interface ease-of-use, EQ and DSO settings are excellent. Accepts rear camera backup.

Cons: Can be a bit fussy about re-establishing bluetooth but if you are patient, it will eventually link. When going into reverse, the camera lag is a bit long but not hideous.

Love this radio. After careful research I decided to get this one as I wanted a plain and simple Android auto experience. Powerful radio and sound is a big improvement over my 2 year old Bluetooth pioneer unit. Installation was a breeze with Crutchfield's wiring services. Bluetooth sound for some reason is better than actual wired connection. Overall, smooth Bluetooth and Android auto connection and no drops whatsoever. Also love the physical volume knob and forward and back buttons for music streaming.

Pros: Excellent Android auto and Bluetooth integration. No drops

Cons: If anything, lower sound using wired Android auto as opposed to Bluetooth. Just have to raise volume a couple of notches. Still, excellent unit.

    Verified customer (What's this?)
    Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Installed in my 1997 Toyota Land Cruiser as part of a sound system overhaul. Fits perfect in the 2 DIN OEM slot (and the OEM brackets on the stock head unit bolt right onto this Sony unit to make mounting that much easier). Look is very clean and doesn't seem out of place with the rest of the console area. Feeds into my Pioneer GM-D8604 amp that power my Polk Audio DB652 (four) door speakers. This setup provides me great sound, and it starts with this Sony head unit. Touchscreen is as responsive as one would like - meaning it rarely "misses" your intention but also isn't so touchy any slight nick of the screen will create an action. I will say, you rarely have to touch the screen more than a few times unless you're constantly changing sources or switching stations. But when you do, all screen options are large enough to easily hit. UI is very nice - especially in Carplay. Using Google Maps on the screen is great - plus you can get away from it and go back to, say, Spotify to focus on your music while Maps will give you updates in the background. Setting EQ is simple and doesn't take 20 steps to get into. Bluetooth setup and connectivity is easy and never seems to miss. I was very hesitant to put a touchscreen in my beloved "mechanically unstoppable" Land Cruiser, but this is a very happy purchase. Wonderful to have in my vehicle and enjoy all my music options without giving up appearance or performance. Just buy it already.

Pros: easy install...screen works great day and night...screen is responsive to touch...UI is solid and easy to navigate...Carplay works like a breeze...bluetooth connection is easy and no issues connecting

Cons: if I have to: additional USB plug on front would be handy...detachable face would be nice as well

    Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I installed this in a 2015 VW Jetta. I chose this head unit due to its compatibility with Android auto and apple car play. For the price point it's been an excellent stereo. The touch is very responsive with very little input lag. I get great radio reception and a clear audio signal to my stock system. I would say the Android auto is my favorite part. Now I have my music and navigation readily available and viewable on my head unit. That alone was worth the money. I like the ability to put my own personal background on it as well. I have had it installed for a couple weeks and have no issues with it. My only complaint is the fact the USB is on the rear. I ran a cable to the cabin of my car which wasn't difficult that alleviated this issue. When I throw my car in reverse it automatically switches to the back up camera input. I have ordered a backup camera I'll be installing shortly. It's easy to use and works very well for the price. Sony did a good job on this one. Very happy with my purchase. Bought the adapter and the steering wheel controls work well with the stereo. Voice control for texting/calling works great with the supplied microphone. When I installed the stereo originally the cable to my phone didn't allow Android auto to work correctly. I connected a USB 3.0 quick charge cable to it and that solved the problem. Cable issue, NOT a stereo issue. Don't make the same mistake I did.

Pros: Fast and responsive touch *Android auto/Apple Car Play* Good price for available features Quick and easy install in a VW Jetta

Cons: Rear USB cable, but comes with extender and running a cable was not difficult.

Radio is simple to operate. Sounds pretty good with the stock speakers and the Apple car play works really well. Best thing is the clarity of phone connections while chatting on phone. The screen color can be changed to match the cars other instrument cluster colors. One can upload a favorite photo for the screen background as well! Overall, very happy with this stereo, and can honestly say this is the best aftermarket stereo I've had.

Pros: Easy to operate. Apple car play. Bluetooth for music from phone. Changeable screen background. Single Din backside leaves room for wires.

I have had this unit installed for about a week and so far its been pretty good. My main reasons for purchasing this unit over the similar price point Pioneer were the inclusion of the volume knob, the simplicity of the buttons and such, and the overall look of the unit. The interface is very easy to use and simple, though I find it a bit too simple for my tastes. I love the CarPlay and i really like that I could retain the use of my factory steering wheel buttons with the iDatalink Maestro that i purchased with this unit. The rear camera function works very well and is very helpful having never had one before. I have found that the unit is a bit glitchy so far and I think it may just be the New England cold but I feel as though these should be made to withstand such temperatures. Overall its a great unit and I would definitely consider purchasing it again.

Pros: nice screen, volume knob, rear camera input, single din rear

Cons: sluggish startup, lacking some customizability

Lame sound quality. Turn up the bass all you like, including the bass boost But it wont help much. I even changed out the speakers for JVC and Sony speakers and yet somehow this stereo is all about the treble(not the bass). On multiple occassions it has frozen and wont let ne change songs or the volume. I have called Sony and all they have said is to reset the stereo. But then a week or so later it repeats the same issue. Bottom line, buy another product. Sony is not as good as Pioneer or JVC when it comes to car stereos.

I like most of the features and they work well, but for my wife and I, we have to intermittently reboot our iphone 6S in order for Carplay to work. Imagine yourself getting into your vehicle, hoping to just plug in the USB cable and drive. Nope ! Instead, you must power off the phone, then turn it back on and wait until it's online, then unlock. I worked with the very polite and patient support staff, but even they could not resolve this issue. To simulate before buying, get in your car, reboot your phone, unlock it and then start your car. If you're kewl with this, then give it 5 stars. For me sitting there for 50 seconds is absurd. Only 2 stars because I would not have purchased the unit without Apple play and I really don't have the time or patience now to remove and reinstall my old unit -or- a replacement with a different unit.

Pros: Hands free communication touch screen Supports Pandora and Waze

Cons: intermittent iphone reboot required. Mounting plates required a little work with the dremel to fit.

Love this unit! Amazing upgrade to my 16-year-old 4-Runner. Installation was a snap thanks to the pre-wired harness (THANK YOU Crutchfield for offering this). Saved me a ton of work (and the ever-present fear of a connection coming apart in my dash...highly recommend this option). This was my first experience with Apple Car Play and it's a good as advertised. Having Google Maps on the Sony's big screen is a game-changer. Much safer when navigating in traffic. About the only negative I can come up with is that the power button isn't lit on the unit making it hard to find at night. A very minor issue. Overall I highly recommend this unit.

Nice stereo with an intuitive and easy-to-navigate interface. The screen is bright and clear, and responsive to touch. The audio quality is also quite good. On the minus side, the USB port is a loose cable rather than something built into the front of the stereo which is not the cleanest solution. There are also fairly limited options in terms of audio configuration and screen brightness (default is way too bright which makes the auto-dimming feature a little useless - however setting the screen to full dim is just about right). Overall, thumbs up.

Pros: Audio quality, bright responsive screen, easy navigation.

Cons: Loose USB cable/port, screen is too bright, not a ton of configuration options.

Installed this weekend so time will tell, but first impressions are of a good touchscreen deck with CarPlay that works well. Siri function works nice and I was able to integrate a aftermarket backup camera fairly easily once I found the reverse wire.

Pros: Touchscreen "feel", CarPlay, backup camera integration.

Cons: Unit was defaulting to video input even when car was in park. Took some time to troubleshoot, all wiring was good, ended up resetting unit and upgrading firmware and hasn't occurred again.

Awesome unit, no problems so far. I mostly use it with carplay. Although CarPlay apps catalog is not big what it has fits the bill. Remember that even if there is no app for carplay you can still hear the audio even if its a service like youtube. For Maps or Google Maps it works good, it takes you where you need to go. Siri works very well, but remember since Siri needs to hear you any sound that your car makes will influence Siri, so if your car has its shock absorbers fried or any other thing that makes noise inside your cabin be aware that Siri will not hear you well. For phone calls it work great, the mike it comes with does the job very fine, So far I have experienced no crashes. It gives life back to any old car (mine is a Mitsubishi Outlander 2005 and it works great!!). BTW do yourself a favor and buy it with the Ready Harness, it will simplify your life no end!!!

    Pros: Affordable Price CarPlay compatible

Cons: No front USB, if your car doesn't have a USB port you will have to improvise depending of your car model.

I must admit, I was leery purchasing a Sony head unit, as I've usually only ever bought Panasonics, but I was pleasantly surprised with both the ease of install and the overall quality of the XAV-AX100. The touch screen is responsive, the sound quality is awesome, and, most importantly, there is absolutely no road/cabin noise at all during phone calls in my 2005 Mustang GT. That's impressive, as the car is by no means quiet. Buy this unit - I don't think you'll ever regret it.

Pros: Great sound quality, responsive touch screen, Apple CarPlay, and crystal clear phone calls.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Decent unit, looks nice installed in my wife's 2010 Outback and functions well. Be warned, if you have on/off hook phone controls on your steering wheel you will loose them, as the remote control interface for this unit does not support on/off hook (??). The rest of steering wheel buttons do work. Also, the tuner strength does not seem to be as good as in the OEM Harmon Kardon unit. As a final note, there was a wiring error in the instructions for the main harness, the turn on wire for the OEM HK amp was actually on a totally different connector. Also, there was a wiring error in the instructions for the steering wheel controls adapter, i.e. one was pin 11 not pin 13 on main connector. Thank goodness for the internet.

    Pros: Screen, usability, price, carplay

Cons: Doesn't support phone on/off hook steering wheel controls

The bass this unit produces paired with the Bose speakers in my truck is awesome. 5 times better than the last aftermarket headunit I had installed before it. An easy install, because the chassis is half the size of a normal double-din unit there was no need to cut anything in my dash as suggested by Crutchfield. They really need to update that. Unfortunately I can't comment on the apple carplay/android auto part of this product because for some unknown reason the unit does not recognize there is any kind of usb device plugged into it. I have tried both an iPhone and a Samsung phone, nothing happens. Customer service is awesome, a replacement unit is on the way. Hopefully this is an isolated unit.

    Pros: Awesome Bass

    Cons: Unresponsive USB

Way better than the factory radio not only in functionality, but in sound. I thought I may need to redo my truck's audio system entirely to suit my needs, but just adding this head unit made a world of difference. Menu interaction is smooth, initial load time is quick- it feels like quality. I've tested the CarPlay functionality, and it works as expected. Have yet to test android auto. Honestly, if you're looking to improve sound quality, or wanting modern features in an older/base car, but don't want to spend a ton, look no further. Installation is also a breeze with Crutchfield reps able to answer questions in no time.

Pros: -responsive touch screen -good sound -amazing functionality -affordable price

Cons: -screen is a bit grainy looking in some instances. -no front panel USB. You're going to have to route the USB input from the back of the unit to somewhere in your vehicle (comes with an extension)

This will be a 100% honest and emotion-free. I will describe every flaw and issue I'm *currently* having or have had with this head unit. 1. Regularly this deck boots up to a blank screen...nothing at all is showing but music is playing. I have to either restart my car or push in the reset button. 2. Every time I turn my car off while connected to my iPhone (Carplay), the deck will advance (1) track no matter what. 3. The deck always boots up to the Spotify list screen even though a song is already playing...not smart enough to switch to the actually screen playing the song. I have to manually push (now playing) every time. 4. Carplay...there are too many issues to list, but the main one is what I'd say is screen mirroring. The programming in this deck is so bad that I can't leave any app running and switch to another while leaving the original on-screen. Example: If I have the GPS running and want to change songs...I switch to Spotify on my phone and so does the head unit. This is epic bad programming on either Apple or Sony. 5. The GPS is so slow that is renders it un-usable. I was in a traffic jam recently and tried to scroll the screen to see how far traffic extended...it took me minutes not seconds to simply move the screen around. 6. You have to physically disable the opening warning screen with a screen push...that or download the hack which internally disables this feature. 7. There is an air gap between the screen protector and the touch...i

Pros: It plays music mostly when turned on.

    Cons: Read the review.

Installed in a 2005 Impala 3.4 Base. I previously had an old Pioneer HU single din. It was a great radio, too, but as times have changed, I wanted a touch screen to use with my iPhone - I use an iPhone 8 with current iOS 12.1. I have 2 new Chevrolets with the touch screens and those are ok, but this Sony is much faster to respond to starting apple play. I use an external 4x125 amp and a 1x500 so I can't speak to how well the radio powers speakers. I did install a rear camera I bought from Crutchfield and it works very well - Boyo VTL17LTJ Backup Cam with LED and Trajectory Lines. I disabled the lines from the camera and only use what the Sony has. I updated this Sony with the official latest updates and it's very easy to do. You can also change the background image but up must use a USB to do so - can't use bluetooth or phone connected to the USB.

Pros: Very responsive with iPhone 8 iOS 12.1 Good options for current technology

Cons: If you leave it on "rear camera mode" - and don't have a camera installed - and shut the car off, it starts in "no signal" (a blank/black screen) mode which was a bit confusing me a bit - not enough to deduct any stars since it was me not knowing rather than anything that feels like a flaw.

Very elegant media player. Interface, fonts, menus all superior to my factory media player. Built-in amp has enough juice to drive high-efficiency speakers (Focal in my case). Got it for the Apple and Android support but I use us FM and USB memory stick playback often as well with no complaints. Heck, even my factory back-up camera looks better through the Sony processing. All the Crutchfield supplied parts made for a very clean install. Only rub is the lack of a AUX port for playing old iPods, laptops, etc - which I do miss and was surprised this wasn't on the feature list.

This is a great upgrade for my 2008 Toyota Tacoma. It was easy to install with Crutchfield's wiring harness. Love that I can use my iphone for the apps. Now I have navigation. Only downside for me was not being able to use an ipod for music, but my iphone works just as well. I wired it into my console so that I didn't have to keep it in view while using. Looks great and works well. Highly recommend it.

The Sony XAV-AX100 installed pretty esasily using the Crutchfield supplied interface. Controls are intuitive. The CarPlay feature works very well with the iPhoneX. Three minor negatives are: 1) volume knob on the radio is very shallow and difficult to adjust (but, using the steering wheel control is a good alternative); 2) After starting the vehicle and immediately backing up, the rear view camera blanks for a second when the Sony completes its boot-up; 3) The three rear view parking guides distance indicators are adjustable individually using the Sony settings screen however, there is no way to adust the left - right side bars to better match the vehicles backing profile.

I like this, although the little wheel for volume is difficult to use. I found Android Auto to be REALLY slow, though; I don't know why, it's running on a new galaxy s9+. Sounds great, and I like a lot of the interface.

First impression so far after installing it today. It's a leap forward over the old factory head unit. Went in easy with Crutchfield's pre-wired harness. Sounds great, looks great and brings my 2008 up to 2018! Everything so far is as described. Customer support was awesome. Called twice just to clarify my backup camera wiring and they were spot on. It looks awesome. Tuner, Bluetooth and Android Auto all work perfectly. I did delete Sony's backup lines though. I'll update later if anything changes, but for the price, you cannot beat this. One hiccup was the Metra adapter for the double din mounting. If I used it as labeled, left to left and right to right, it didn't mount flush at all. Decided to flip it over and it mounted flush. Problem is, only two of four screws lined up perfectly. Had to use a cutout that wasn't designed to have a screw through it. They did catch enough of the edge to make it work though.

The Sony XAV-AX100 was very easy to install. Screen is nice a clear and viewable from different angles. Having the volume being a physical dial is a big plus for me and was a deciding factor. Don't really miss or need the CD player since all my music is on my iPhone. Apple CarPlay works seamlessly. Very satisfied.

Bought this for the Apple carplay feature. It works perfectly and was fairly easy to install. Also added a reverse camera and added a dash mount USB plug. Very nice radio and a good addition to my 2005 Tacoma. I would give it 5 stars if the plastic mounting brackets on the sides of the radio were more ridged. They are flexible plastic and very hard to mount the radio correctly. Maybe its the Radio mounting instructions that are not good. I cannot get the radio in properly to look nice and have the radio bezel clip into the side brackets. I called CRUTCHFIELD and they sent me a single DIN radio mount and that is not it either. I did use the "T" for Toyota screw holes and tried them in every combination. Im still working on it after a week.

Pros: Nice radio with extras on it. Works really good with Apple car play.

Cons: The install instructions are not very clear. I cant get the large toyota bezel and the radio bezel on together. Once the large toyota center section dash panel is in place there are gaps around the radio.

The xav-ax100 used to work very well. Now I've had multiple issues with it. Android auto is very shotty and doesn't always work. Sometimes it doesn't recognize my phone, sometimes the music on spotify wont play, and sometimes maps don't work. I've also had an issue where when I try to place (or receive) a phone call I hear an extremely loud buzzing and no voices. Another issue I have had was I could not turn up the volume on my bluetooth music. Yet another issue I've had is that when I play music over a bluetooth connection from my phone, the song name, artist, and album won't change with the music, and the shuffle and repeat buttons never do anything when I press them. Very disappointed with this radio as it is very pricy and received many good reviews.

Install was straightforward in my 2006 VW GTI MKV (especially with the ReadyHarness). The position of the screen in my car is little lower than I'd like. The screen size was a bit smaller than I expected, but the viewing angle is great. Even in sunlight. I use the unit exclusively in CarPlay mode - the integration (using iPhone XS Max on iOS12) is almost flawless. Siri voice control is awesome especially when combined with HomeKit - "close garage door". It has a knob! Sound quality is very good. My wife wants one in her car.

Pros: Nice screen resolution; viewable in sunlight. CarPlay integration works well; auto starts playing music from last app used. It has a knob! Easy firmware update process.

Cons: Loses settings when firmware is updated. Clock time can be wrong sometimes, especially when set to "auto". Mute doesn't bring volume to zero; it ATTenuates the sound - just lowers the sound a lot.

I installed this in my 2005 Toyota 4Runner (SR5 non-JBL). NOTE THAT YOU WILL NEED TO PURCHASE LONGER SCREWS TO WORK WITH METRA DASH KIT AND STOCK RECEIVER BRACKET. The 8mm long screws that come with this Sony stereo are not long enough to go through dash kit and receiver mounting bracket. I had to run to local hardware store to purchase longer screws. Other than that, installation was straightforward and I am happy with my purchase. Pros: Very simply to use. CarPlay works great. Physical volume knob. Sound quality is good. Screen is clear and bright. Cons: Volume knob is small. It takes one press on the volume knob, plus a touchscreen press to Mute volume.

I installed this unit in my otherwise stock 2002 VW Golf. Installation with the Crutchfield instructions and wiring kit took, literally, 15 minutes. The unit is very well-made. Early complaints from people about the surface finish seem to have been resolved, as I see no blemishes from fingernails. The screen is pretty easy to see in most lighting, at least without sunglasses. The GUI is very simple, which is amazing. Complicated tasks like adjusting the equalizer is very streamlined and quick to accomplish. The touchscreen works flawlessly, even with swiping and pinch-to-zoom. The microphone quality is [apparently] outstanding. Siri always understands what I'm saying (or as well as she normally does), and the people I've spoken to on the phone have said I sound no worse than I do in person. The Sony takes a good 20 seconds to startup, but once running, it operates VERY quickly. I have never felt like I'm waiting on the system, which I can't say with other units I've installed. I have heard that the backup camera does turn on immediately, but I cannot verify this as I don't have one installed. Sound quality is absolutely stellar. It brightened up the factory Monsoon speakers in the little Golf. I had not expected this. It completely game me the ability to fine tune the sound to make every song, podcast, or phone call sound as perfect as the treble-heavy early-2000's speakers can. I'm very pleased with it, and now want to upgrade the rest of the system!

Pros: Easy to use. Great sound quality. EQ allows really amazing fine tuning of the factory speakers. Apple Carplay is nice!

Cons: Volume knob is small and in an odd spot. The only USB connection is in the rear. Microphone mount can only be clipped to a visor, and is a 3.5mm connector, which is rare among the aftermarket radio world, it seems.

Pros: Screen is nice. Response to touch is fast. Apple carplay works as well as described everywhere else.

These head units are a great value. Excellent sound quality and ease of use. Bluetooth works flawlessly with no quality of sound loss on phone or music. Apple CarPlay works great. I purchased 4 of these for our fleet vehicles at work because of a trial one I bought. The only thing i wish was a little better is the scrolling from screen to screen to get to the settings app. You have to press on just the right spot. I definitely recommend this head unit, especially for Apple CarPlay.

I installed this in my 2004 Chevy 2500hd. The site says modification to the dash is required, but I didn't have to modify it at all. The head unit really updates the look of the interior and almost looks like a factory installed head unit. The interface is very simple and user friendly, and the background is changeable unlike some touch screens. It does get a little laggy occasionally in Bluetooth audio, but for the most part it is very quick and responsive. Apple CarPlay works flawlessly. I bought a usb dash plug from amazon and installed it in my center console, and plugged it in to the back of my stereo and it looks great and works very well. All of my steering wheel controls work, although you'll probably have to have a harness depending on the vehicle you have. I had to buy a harness to retain my factory Bose audio system and onstar. I haven't tried out the usb video yet since my truck has a DVD player in the back, but I used the USB port to upload a background picture and it worked for that. The head unit also comes with a remote. I don't use it but I know that that is a feature that many people want. Over all this is a great unit for the money, and it works perfectly for what I need. (My phone wouldn't focus very well in the pictures. The screen looks great in person)

Pros: User friendly interface. Looks great. Lots of features. Apple CarPlay. Sounds great. Reasonable price.

Cons: Occasionally gets a bit of lag.

I installed this in a 2005 Toyota 4Runner with the JBL amplified 11-speaker system using the steering wheel controls and audio interface offered by Crutchfield. This is an excellent head unit because of its simple interface and the fact that it has a physical volume knob. I also added a backup camera, which works perfectly. I'm primarily using CarPlay and a nice detail is that I can still listen to the tuner while having CarPlay open to a navigation app. I can even use the up/down buttons on the steering wheel to cycle through radio presets while the navigation is displayed. The audio from the head unit is being converted to line level by the external interface for input into the factory amp, and it stills sounds great. The front/rear fader controls do not work from the head unit, but that is due to the interface needing to be re-programmed.

Pros: Volume knob, CarPlay while listening to the radio, simple interface, nice 10-band EQ

Cons: When spinning the volume knob quickly in either direction, the changing of the volume could stand to go a little faster

Overall I'm mostly satisfied. Had some minor issues when getting started, like playing spotify; the display would freeze showing one song when actually another would be playing, changing channel on FM would set the channel as opposed to changing it ( this may have been fixed in the sept 2018 software update, which is appears to address button issues on FM. Loving having android auto on the dash as opposed to having it on a phone.

Pros: Works with android auto. Good FM radio reception. Easy to setup, particularly if you get the optional harness.

Cons: The options for dimming the display, on - dim. Will be dim if headlights are turned on. The dimming control from the car does not control the radio.

I bought this after reading the WireCutter article recommending this stereo (https://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-car-stereos-with-apple-carplay-and-android-auto/)

Pros: Physical knob is great. CarPlay support is great.

Cons: * No wireless CarPlay (that's fine, I'd rather have my iPhone charge anyway) * Resistive (rather than capacitive) touch technology -- touch screen works fine, I don't miss "pinch to zoom"

The unit works well. Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is two-fold. First, the volume knob is too small, plenty of room to make it a bit easier to grab and turn. The second is that to alter the EQ you need to several button pushes to get to screen. Needs a button for EQ/Sub adjustment on every screen or a hard button on the side of the screen.

Pros: Looks great, screen is clear, very sensitive touch screen

Cons: Needs hard button for audio adjustment (EQ/sub) controls screen and larger/taller volume knob.

Nice clear display, with the trim ring from the install kit it blends in and looks like it could have come from the factory. I love that it has an actual volume knob. CarPlay starts up quickly when I plug in the phone and works great. The backup camera input works good too - it switches over quickly when I put the car in reverse and the adjustable marks let me calibrate the camera to the distances I wanted to have for each line on the camera display. I also liked that the unit was only single DIN height in back with a double DIN screen - lots of space to pack in the wiring harness behind the radio for an easy install.

I really like this unit. It has all the features that make enjoying music a breeze. The Apple Car play is a serious win, as I was coming from a basic, stock radio, which didn't even have Bluetooth or hands fee anything. The installation was pretty easy, and it sounds and looks great. I'm going to upgrade my speakers and call it a day.

Pros: Not too bad of an install. Great sound. Great looks. An actual knob for volume. Apple CarPlay. Very responsive.

Cons: Volume knob could be a tad bigger, but that's minor.

Unfortunately I had to return this unit as it doesn't have sufficient power for the pre-amp outputs (2V) for my vehicle application, and the adapter using the standard speaker-out connections did not get me sufficient volume without distortion for my factory Bose amplified system. That said, I really liked the interface of this Sony unit. I use CarPlay exclusively, but Sony's "home" interface is ***much*** better than that of its competitors. It offers a nice palette of EQ settings as well as fully-customized control. The graphics look like they belong in this century, unlike Pioneer's, Alpine's and others. Unfortunately due to my installation issues I can't comment on the sound quality of the Sony unit. The reason for the 3-star review is the ridiculous volume knob. I purchased this unit specifically for the volume knob (which very few CarPlay units offer) as my vehicle is older and does not have steering wheel controls. Sony must have designed this volume knob for a gnome or other small woodland creature. It is far too short/stubby for quick and easy adjustment, and because it's so short it's easy to accidentally press it (invoking voice controls) when trying to grab it with your normal-sized human fingers (my fingers are actually quite slim - I pity someone with meaty fingers trying to use this thing). Add another quarter-inch to the height of that knob, Sony, and you've got a winner. Perhaps it works great with smaller Japanese hands, but it's a usability fa

Good budget Android Auto/Carplay HU. I've only used Android Auto, which worked well once I uninstalled/reinstalled Google Play Services updates on my Galaxy S7. The HU is a little slower to boot on and into AA then i'd like (Maybe 30 seconds). The Touchscreen works quite well, and is highly visible even in direct sunlight with polarized sunglasses. My only other disappointments are with features that I knew weren't included on a HU at this price point such as AA over bluetooth, and more advanced DSP features like time alignment, phase, and full range adjustable crossovers. I can always add an external DSP for that, but now that I know I want those features I would have bought a ~$600+ HU and gotten BT AA along the way.

This is a great unit. I installed it in a 2013 Corvette. The instructions were right on. I like buying from Crutchfield because of the instructions and support. It probably took 2 hours off of the job. So far the Android app is terrific. One thing I did not understand when I purchased it is that while it is bluetooth, the Android app is not. I wired the USB connector thru my center console which is clean and out of the way. The display then basically turns into the phone, you just have to figure out all the icons on the touchscreen. As for the steering wheel buttons, most don't do anything because no more CD's. The sound quality is good using the internal amp into 4 woofers, midranges and tweeters that were installed by Chevy. The hands free phone quality is wonderful, you can talk in a normal time of voice. No need for any built in Nav, Google maps from the phone is displayed. Another nice feature is that even though the face is double din, behind is single so there is lots of room for the wires. Easily worth the money.

    Pros: Android app, sound quality.

This product is disappointing. I've had odd issues with it, and even exchanged it on warranty with Sony, but the problems persisted. I can only assume the issues I'm having are design flaws. For starts, the FM radio seems to cycle from loud and clear to muffled about every 30 seconds or so. Then there are issues with Bluetooth. The audio quality while in calls is frequently choppy. Most of the time when I end a call, my android phone shows the call has properly ended, however this head unit shows the call as still being active, and the hang-up button on the head unit doesn't do anything. In Android Auto, it also shows the call has ended, and I can push play on my audio files, but no sound comes out. The only way I've found to end the call on the head unit is to unlock my phone and turn Bluetooth off and back on. Also, less frequently, I can make or answer a call and the display shows the call has connected, but I can't hear the other person, and they can't hear me. The Android Auto works well and sounds good, but the issues with the FM radio and hands-free calling are really getting annoying. While I didn't have the unit during the warranty exchange with Sony, I just put a Bluetooth speaker on my dash and used it for Bluetooth audio and phone calls, and everything worked perfectly. Also, my other vehicle has built in Bluetooth support and everything works fine there too, so I don't think it's a phone issue.

    Pros: Android Auto works well

Cons: FM radio and Bluetooth issues.

After purchasing the new head unit from Crutchfield, installed this the Sony XAV-AX100 this morning. Everything works as advertised. The screen very responsive and the sound is amazing. I attached my Wife's Pixel 2 to the radio and was astonished that Google maps and Waze both worked. The only issue that I have (the reason for only a 3 star review) is something that has been reported on a few other forums. The calling feature doesn't work properly with Pixel phone's that have been upgraded to Android Pie. It makes a strange crackling noise. I will update this review and raise my rating if either Sony or Google fix this issue in a timely fashion. Crutchfield is always the best place to buy all of your electronics.

Cons: The calling feature doesn't work properly with Pixel phone's that have been upgraded to Android Pie.

Stations clear on my stock radio are weak and full of static. There are 18 presets, only 6 on a page; odd given that the buttons are small. More could fit, or they could be larger and easier to hit. A quick touch doesn't register; and a slightly more deliberate touch changes the preset to the current station rather than changing the station to the preset. The seek buttons are big and sensitive - one is right next to the teeny-tiny slow-to-respond volume knob so that if you brush it while adjusting the volume, you lose your station. The steering wheel controls work well with Crutchfield's adapter, so I avoid touching the screen as much as possible. POR gives a warning cleared by pressing "OK". Every. Single. Time. Even the steering wheel controls are disabled while the warning is up. Screen occasionally hangs blank - fixed by turning the radio off and on. There's only 1 sub jack. So you can drive the amp with a single input, or use a splitter to feed Left and Right. It's a "low-level" output - meaning I couldn't use the auto-on feature of my Kicker amp, but had to run a turn-on wire. Finally, the output is ON when the EQ screen reads "SUBWOOFER OFF"; and OFF when the EQ screen reads "SUBWOOFER ON". This almost had Crutchfield tech support convinced my unit was defective, as it is counter-intuitive and not documented anywhere. Apple Car Play is clunky, and takes over completely if you plug into USB. I found it easier to use Bluetooth and a separate charging cable f

Pros: -Good sound quality (except FM) -Bluetooth works great

Cons: -FM Tuner Sucks -1 Low-Level sub output -Finicky controls -Counter-intuitive messaging -Poor documentation

I just install this unit into my 2018 Hyundai Sport with 5"screen. I must say, this was the first install I've done in 30 years and it was very easy with the instructions and tech support given to me by Charles. He was very skilled, knowledgeable and patient . This guy knows his stuff. He helped me with my factory backup camera (no change from factory) and steering wheel controls as 2 wires didn't exactly match as said on the supplied adapters. Btw Charles, you were right about the red/black wire for backup cam, I didn't have to run one back to the tailgate backup light. Thank you very much!! I am so happy about my purchase and i can boast I did it myself.

Pros: Android auto and apple car play work like a charm. Sound is way better then factory, equalizer is a plus. Talk to text is awesome or other way around. Can listen to radio with android auto on.

The 05 Mustang had a factory Shaker 1000 head unit which no longer would accept any CDs, so it was time to replace. I wanted to try CarPlay, and this head unit was the top pick on Wirecutter when I looked. Crutchfield had at a good price with additional harnesses and adapters that made it a great value. Installation using the ReadyHarness I bought from Crutchfield saved me an estimated two hours of installation time. Fortunately the OEM speakers were more than up to challenge, and AX100 is able to drive the speaker array for better sound than OEM Shaker 1000 head unit. This car stereo now sounds like a new, high-end install, its 10 speakers (6 front, 2 rear, 2 powered subwoofers) all sound clear. CarPlay support is fast. I ran the head unit's rear USB cable to center console storage and am happy with the CarPlay interface, using instead of Bluetooth. A Lightning USB cable to iPhone provides it recharging power and CarPlay connection. Already am loving apps like Pandora, Overcast for audio playback. Can't wait until iOS 12 when third-party nav apps arrive. I have a convertible and the display is readable with with the top down. I snaked the microphone cable through trim panels and have it positioned on driver-side sun visor. It works fine with top up; haven't tested mic yet with top down, but there's no good solutions for sound quality when the wind is rushing by... :) I do not plan on using the backup camera, nor playing video media files, so c

Pros: - Responsive user interface; Display is also very responsive to touch, just like Wirecutter said it would be - Simple, clean design. Knob for volume and Siri hands-free activation is a pleasing experience - simple to install (with Crutchfield know-how) - Dual DIN adapter pretty much matches the OEM panels - Drives clean sound; equalizer presets and custom EQ let the sound really be shaped - Loads quickly / plays music collection from USB thumb drives seamlessly.

Cons: Single sub pre-amp out. - The shaker 1000 wiring has two subwoofer line-level connections; a simple RCA splitter cable fixed this. No CAN bus access to car telemetry "out of the box". - OEM head unit had "Speed Volume" setting that would increase volume based on vehicle speed. Not a deal breaker, as the smooth sound and volume knob of the AX100 compensates No iPod support. - USB connection supports CarPlay and Android Auto as well as USB mass storage, but does not s

    The Best Volvo Solution

    Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

This is an awesome, affordable CarPlay unit. And it's a great choice to drop into a Volvo. What I mean is Volvo aesthetics dictate that any aftermarket radio will cheapen the look of the car. So when my HU-850 radio died in my 2006 XC70 I was faced with buying questionable used or paying $1100 installed from my dealer. For a radio that was cutting edge 12 years ago (dinosaur) which even included a dashboard pop-up, CD-driven steering wheel keyboard maps. It looked good a dozen years ago, but outdated and overpriced. This Sony unit is so understated and non-blingy (especially for a full display unit) that with the installed dashboard bezel it looks like it was designed for Volvo. Seriously. The bad was that I lost the back up sensors (which were fairly lame) and it couldn't be hooked up to the Volvo external amplifier (but the Sony is super powerful) and I lose the front center channel (see DSO below). Also steering wheel hookup is a bit more, BUT at less than half the price of a replacement radio it's a no-brainer. This unit is more powerful than my old one so my old "premium sound" is better. It also has a Sony DSO setting that creates the sound direction from in front (so the center channel thing is unmissed). I now have a great sounding super-cool CarPlay unit that destroys my old one & looks like it was made for my Volvo Cross Country. I can make phone calls, hands-free text, listen to Spotify and have GPS all active.

Pros: Simple understated design, Super powerful drives speakers with ease, Apple Car Play and Android Auto, Responsive screen, Great custom sound settings.

Cons: Some olde time Volvo features are lost, but most are compensated for.

Wanted to buy a hands free radio for my 2002 Honda CRV and have nothing but praise for the Sony XAV-AX100!! The DSO is amazing and truly pulls the sound of my factory door speakers to give them more clarity. I love the android auto as it allows me to play my Audio Books, Amazon Music, and even lets me use my Waze app. Would highly recommend this radio to anyone.

Pros: DSO is amazing and truly pulls the sound to give your speakers more sound clarity.

Cons: Android auto can be little quirky but I feel this has nothing to do with the radio but with android and my phone provider.

Easy install, very easy to use interface that still maintained the factory-installed look my spouse was looking for, and significantly improved audio quality over what was a pretty decent factory system. I'm very pleased with this unit and highly recommend it.

I bought this stereo for my son to replace the OEM stereo in his first car - a 2006 Hyundai Tucson. Using the included free, installation kit and wiring harness, the stereo was fairly easy to install. We connected it to a backup camera that we installed and it works great. The Apple CarPlay feature was a big seller for me on this stereo and it works great. Side note: just make sure that you do not have any CarPlay restrictions enabled in your iPhone settings; if you do, it won't work. The included USB cable extender is plenty long enough to make it from behind the dash to wherever you want to place it so you can plug in your phone. My son likes the customization of the background by adding his own photo and he likes being able to use Siri to play his music. This is a great stereo for the price in my opinion.

Pros: -Clean looking stereo - fits nicely with the car interior -Good sounding stereo - even with the stock, OEM speakers -CarPlay is awesome

Cons: Would like to be able to turn off the backup camera grid lines, but not a deal-breaker.

This is a fantastic head unit I used to replace the stock double-DIN CD changer unit in my 2011 Honda Ridgeline. Instructions were easy to follow, and ordering the Ready Harness made installation a breeze. Worked great with the recommended connectors and mounts. I was even able to retain my stock subwoofer with this unit by adding the BOSS Audio CE200M Chaos Epic 200 Watt, Monoblock, 4 Ohm Stable Class A/B, MOSFET Car Amplifier (Wiring: Black (sub) to Black (HU); Red (sub) to Red (HU), Orange (sub) to Blue (Remote - HU), White + (sub) to Yellow/Black (HU - connector C) and White/Black - (sub) to Light Green/Red (HU - connector C). Glad to finally be truly hands-free!

Looks and works great in our 2009 Honda Odyssey. We got it primarily for the CarPlay and the physical volume knob is great (though we also wired up the steering audio controls too). Be sure to check the Sony support site for software updates... I did and got rid of the compulsory manual dismissal of the startup nag screen (now goes away on its own after a few seconds).

No problems with it at all. It does what I expected. Android Auto and CarPlay work as expected. One complaint is that the Tuner Presets don't show the Station frequency or name, but seem to show the first few characters of the title of a song that played on that station.

Pros: Physical Volume Knob Nice overall UI Android Auto / CarPlay work well

Cons: Weird tuner preset UI choice

This unit was easy to install with the trim kit and wiring harness from Crutchfield and it almost looks like OEM. With a good tuner, bluetooth audio, back up camera capability and Apple CarPlay (it also does Android Auto but I don't have that), it does everything I want in my car. The sound was an immediate improvement over stock, though not dramatic - I think I need to replace speakers to improve that really. The boot up is 15-20 seconds which is a bit long, but I use the time to allow the engine oil to lubricate the pistons before I take off. Someone said the back up camera input won't work during that time but that is false, the camera is accesible immediately if you put the car in reverse. I'm very happy with this Sony unit and Crutchfield made the installation easy!

Pros: Apple CarPlay Real volume knob Responsive screen Good reception

    Cons: None really

Just bought this Sony head unit and installed (meticulously, per instructions) in our Toyota Corolla....and everything works great except one thing. It DOESN'T WORK with Android Auto!!!!! This was the single, sole, solitary, most important reason we purchased this unit. It had great reviews on this and other sites....but it has the DREADED BLACK SCREEN syndrome when connected via USB to any Android phone. Works fantastic with Apple CarPlay. Totally useless as an interface to Android Auto cell phones. Seriously disappointing......needed this to work for my son to have hands free access to his phone, but alas - big letdown. I spent the better part of a weekend installing this and making sure it all looked factory. If I could have left a ZERO rating, I would have.....but it would not let me do that.

Pros: Good interface, works seamlessly wth Apple CarPlay

Cons: Totally DEAD on ARRIVAL for any Android Auto application

Easy to install in the 2010 Prius with the trim kit. Screen is bright and super responsive with minimal delay. Would recommend this.

    Pros:

Cons: There are 18 presets for radio stations and I really only listen to six which is the amount for each page. It would be nice to have it only cycled through 1-6, so next on 6 would go back to 1 and so on. Instead it goes all the way through 18 presets.

Great head unit. Little tedious when needing to update firmware. Be prepared to update when you receive your unit. Only use high quality USB thumb drive others will not work. Crutchfield was helpful in resolving any issues

Pros: Android Auto or Car Play availability
