About the AudioControl LC-4.800

You want power?

The key to building a great car stereo system is power with control. AudioControl's LC-4.800 4-channel amplifier generates 125 watts RMS per channel, so it'll drive even the most demanding aftermarket speakers with plenty of headroom to spare. And it'll rumble the low end too — bridge this versatile amp's output and you've got 400 watts per channel on tap to get your subs bumping.

Control is key

When it's time to dial in the sound, you've got plenty of control. Highly adjustable crossover networks let you set your high- and low-pass filters precisely, and AudioControl's celebrated AccuBASS® circuit ensures maximum bass performance, whether you're connected to an aftermarket or factory stereo. The optional ACR-1 wired remote lets you control the volume from your front seat. Onboard LEDs indicate optimized signal flow for inputs and outputs, plus give you a warning when a source is too loud and causing distortion.

Add kick to your factory stereo

AudioControl designed the LC-4.800 to work equally well with aftermarket and factory stereos. Six active speaker-level inputs allow you to connect to almost any factory radio, while signal summing accommodates the separate bass, midrange, and treble signals in some amplified factory systems. AudioControl's GTO™ Signal Sense circuitry turns the amp on automatically whenever it senses a signal coming from the speaker-level inputs.

AudioControl LC-4.800

A suite of controls lets you dial in the sound output.

One amazing amp!

This is my first AudioControl product but will not be the last! Can run factory location speakers or subs or both! The source clip indicator and gain maximized lights are a foolproof way to set up your system and know your keeping it safe from damage from distortion or overpowering. Sounds amazing pushing 2 Linear Power 10" subs as well as one Blues 12" ISO-Kit and never breaks a sweat!! I recommend the ACR-1 to fine tune the amp on the fly. Awesome amp!

Pros: Capabilities

Cons: Absolutely nothing

I purchased this amp because of all the you tube videos i watched from car audio fabrication. They were right. This amp is awesome for the money. The set up is easy. Just go to CAF YouTube channel and they will show you step by step how to do it. I also like that i can control my sub amp with the AudioControl ARC-1. Thanks to Carter for helping me pair the correct speakers to the amp. ?????? Awesome amp I'm happy with my purchase.

Received my LC-4800 amplifier last week... I haven't installed it yet... but I did check it out thoroughly... mounting options look good...hook up to my Alpine receiver look easy enough.... will take 14 ga speaker wire... needs heavy 8-3.0 ga power wire and 5yr warranty..... American design and engineering... I expect very good to great performance!!!!

Awesome sounding with an important feature missing.

First off this is one of the best sounding amps of any class I have ever used. I'm used to Hypex based amps in the home so I know what class D should sound like or rather have no sound of it's own. I use either the DSP and crossovers in the head unit or a separate DSP, the crossover cannot be defeated (switched out of the circuit) so to work around this I set the crossover frequency far below what I have the external device set to to keep it out of the way as much as possible. When the amp is mounted vertically with the fins facing up, it is easy for debris including screws to fall into the unit. Mounting with the fins left or right would alleviate this mostly. I'm past my return window otherwise I would spend the extra money for the JL HD series instead just to stay in high quality while being more flexible.

Pros: One of the best sounding amps I have ever owned.

Cons: Crossover cannot be defeated. Vertical mounting allows debris inside the amp chassis.

I'm rating amp as a five not because I can tell one amp from another, I can't, but it does what I purchased it for, 125w to match 125w Polk MM6502 speakers. The combination is clear and clean, and I am very happy.

Product Research

Features

Overview: This AudioControl LC-4.800 multi-channel amplifier can enhance the sound of your car stereo system, whether it's a factory system or an aftermarket one. The amp will accept speaker-level or line-level inputs, and can be configured for 4-channel, 3-channel, or 2-channel operation. The LC-4.800 features a black brushed aluminum chassis, with black powder-coated cast alloy heat sinks and bottom panel in one piece. A black brushed aluminum cover is provided to protect the amp controls from tampering. A 2.5mm Allen wrench (supplied) is needed to remove the cover.

Power Output: The LC-4.800 has the following output:

  • 125 watts RMS x 4 at 4Ω
  • 200 watts RMS x 4 at 2Ω
  • 400 watts RMS x 2 at 4Ω bridged

Maximum Input Level Control (MILC): The amplifier analyzes the input signal to detect any clipping. If the signal reaches the level of clipping, the MILC Source Clip LED glows red, prompting you to turn down the gain level. When the gain level is maximized, a green LED will glow to indicate the gain is set to the optimum level.

AccuBASS: The patented AccuBASS processing circuit compensates for factory bass rolloff to improve bass performance, especially with most factory installed sound systems. The circuit has two rotary controls: the Threshold lets you dial in the level at which the AccuBASS will begin to work, while the Level control raise or lower the level of AccuBASS compensation.

ACR-1 Remote: The optional AudioControl ACR-1 wired remote, when enabled, lets you adjust the level of the main outputs, and the line outputs, from the driver's seat. A switch, located on the top of the amp under the removable cover, lets you enable or disable AccuBASS and the ACR-1. If disabled, the ACR-1 only controls the level of the line outputs. The ACR-1 comes with a 20' cable.

Controls: The LC-4.800's controls are located under a removable protective panel. The included 2.5mm Allen wrench is needed for removing the panel during setup. A flat-head screwdriver (not included) is needed to adjust the rotary controls. The amp's controls are as follows:

  • GTO Signal Sense: If you are connecting the amplifier to a factory stereo, or an aftermarket unit without preamp outputs and a remote turn-on lead, you can set the GTO Signal Sense to "On" and the amplifier will turn on when an audio signal is detected on the line-level or speaker-level inputs. After a period of time with no signal input, the amp will turn itself off.
  • Channels 1+2:
    • Front High Input: This rotary control adjusts the level of the Front High speaker-level input.
    • AccuBASS & ACR-1: 2-way switch to enable or disable the AccuBASS circuit and the ACR-1 remote level control (if connected).
    • HP Crossover Frequency: Rotary control to set the cutoff frequency of the High Pass Crossover for Channels 1+2. The control is variable from 30Hz to 300Hz.
    • Mode: If bridging channels 1+2, you can set the output to mono. If not bridging, it can be run in stereo.
    • Gain: This rotary gain control adjusts the overall output of the front channels.
  • AccuBASS: The AccuBASS circuit enhances the bass performance of the amplifier.
    • Threshold: The Threshold control selects the level at which the AccuBASS will begin to work.
    • Level: This dial adjusts the level of the AccuBASS.
  • Front/Rear Bus Sum: You can sum together the front and rear inputs so that you can drive four channels with two inputs. This switch lets you select Summed or Separate inputs.
  • Channels 3+4:
    • AccuBASS & ACR-1: 2-way switch to enable or disable the AccuBASS circuit and the ACR-1 remote level control (if connected).
    • Crossover Type: The rear channel crossover can be set to low pass (LP) or high pass (HP) with this 2-way switch.
    • Crossover Frequency: Rotary control to set the cutoff frequency of the crossover for Channels 3+4. The control is variable from 30Hz to 300Hz.
    • Mode: If bridging channels 3+4, you can set the output to mono. If not bridging, it can be run in stereo.
    • Gain: This rotary gain control adjusts the overall output of the rear channels.

Connections: The LC-4.800's connections are aligned along the front of the amplifier for ease of installation. The amp's connections include:

  • Fuses: Two 40A ATO blade-type fuses are installed in the amplifier.
  • Power: Set-screw terminals are provided for connecting +12V Power, Ground, and Remote In. The set screws can be tightened/loosened with a Phillips-head screwdriver (not included). The Power and Ground terminals will accept up to 3-gauge wire, while the Remote In terminal accepts up to 6-gauge. An 80A fuse should be placed in-line on the power wire, no more than 18" from the battery.
  • Line Level Inputs: Two pairs of RCA jacks are provided for connecting the amp to the source unit via RCA cables.
  • Line Level Output: One pair of RCA jacks for feeding the signal to another amplifier.
  • Speaker Level Input: Three sets of removable Phoenix (or Euroblock) connectors are provided for connecting the source unit via speaker-level input. The speaker wires are inserted into the connector and tightened with a screwdriver (5/64" Precision Phillips-head, not supplied). The connectors are labeled Front High (for tweeters), Front, and Rear.
  • ACR-1 Remote Level Control: This RJ-14 telephone-type connection allows you to plug in the optional ACR-1 Remote. The ACR-1 controls the output level of the amplifier and line outputs.
  • Speaker Output: Removable Phoenix connectors are provided for connecting speaker wire up to 12 gauge. The amplifier will accept a load impedance of 2Ω or higher in stereo (4Ω or higher when bridged). The speaker wires are inserted into the connector and tightened with a screwdriver (9/64" Precision Phillips-head, not supplied).

Customer Q&A

Q
Crutchfield asked: Why did you buy this?
A
The overall control on speakers that use factory inputs makes sense. If you spend the money like I did you want the total control over the sound. [ Tod  Sep 25, 2017 ]

Q
will this eliminate the need for an sound processor when using the factory stereo?
[ kurt  Mar 20, 2019 ]

A
Yes it will. My system sounds awesome. I added a 600wt amp with 2 8inch subs and the sound is super clear no distortion. I would highly recommend it.
