About the Kicker 11HS8

John Pollard

Bass that'll fit almost anywhere

When Kicker set out to make the Hideaway™ compact powered sub, they wanted to make a subwoofer that could fit almost anywhere and still deliver the performance that made Kicker famous. At just over 3" tall, the Hideaway™ will fit under many seats and in storage areas where you don't usually find powered subs. The powerful, built-in 150-watt RMS amplifier delivers strong bass that'll add depth and punch to any type of music.

Big performance

The 8" woofer can hit low notes that'll really rock your ride, especially when the Hideaway™ is mounted in the vehicle's interior. The included remote control bass knob will let you adjust the bass level on the fly. Kicker even included Nylon straps with Velcro® fasteners to mount the sub, plus a quick disconnect harness with power and signal wiring that'll make the installation easier.

Installation Note: The Hideaway™ sub will accept preamp-level signals, but you'll need to connect this adapter to the sub's 8-foot signal harness so you can plug it into your receiver's preamp outputs.

Features

Overview: The HS8 HideAway subwoofer features a built-in amplifier (125 watts RMS at < 1% THD+N/150 watts RMS at < 10% THD+N) and an 8" sub housed in a compact enclosure designed to fit in tight spaces.

Remote Control: The wired remote puts output level control within easy reach. The remote comes features an integrated bracket to mount it under the dash. The included 20' cable, with a 3.5mm mini-plug on each end, connects the remote to the amplifier.

Note: The Remote Bass Control measures approximately 2-1/4" wide x 1-1/4" high x 1.75" deep (3" deep including the knob and cable).

Subsonic Filter: Frequencies that cannot be reproduced by the subwoofer do not become sound, but unnecessary oscillations causing distortion; these frequencies also waste amplifier power and can damage speakers. The subsonic filter removes inaudible frequencies to improve the performance of the speakers by eliminating this harmful distortion. The 24 dB/octave subsonic filter's crossover point is 25 Hz.

Mounting: The subwoofer, with its 3-1/4" height, can be mounted in applications with limited space, even under a seat in the passenger compartment of many vehicles.

Controls

Auto Turn-on: two position switch

  • +12V: amp turns on when 12 volts is applied to the remote turn-on wire
  • DC: amp turns on when a signal is present on the speaker-level input

Input Level: two position switch

  • Hi: accepts signal input from 250mV to 10 volts
  • Lo: accepts signal input from 125mV to 5 volts

Phase: two position switch; set the subwoofer phase to 0° or 180°

Bass Boost: rotary dial to adjust the bass boost; continuously variable from 0 to 6 dB; boost centered at 40 Hz

Crossover Frequency: rotary dial to control the low pass crossover frequency; 50 to 120 Hz; 12 dB/octave slope

Gain: rotary dial to set the amplifier gain control; 250mV to 10 volts for speaker level inputs and 125mV to 5 volts for line level inputs

Connections

Harness: The Quick-Connect harness has wires for power (17-1/2 feet), ground (2 feet), remote turn-on (2 feet), and signal input (8 feet). If using a speaker level input, just splice into the wire in the harness. If using a line level input, a speaker wire to RCA adapter is needed (sold separately). The included in-line fuse holder should be added to the power wire at the battery location.

Remote Bass: 3.5mm mini-jack for use with the included wired remote

Fuse: one 10-amp ATO fuse installed in the chassis

Q
Input Level Switch?... please explain Hi and Lo settings on this product 11HS8 to someone with zero installation and audio knowledge
douglas  Mar 04, 2024
1 answer
A
I would be happy to help, Douglas. If you are using an RCA line-level input from an aftermarket radio or line output converter you will use the "Lo" setting. If you are connecting your Kicker 11HS8 to a factory radio using speaker-level inputs you will use the "Hi" setting. I hope this helps!

Q
I cannot get mine to power on. I tested running positive and negative wire directly to the sub and still no power. Both fuses checked and good. I can not figure out what is wrong with my set up but zero power to the sub no matter which way I run it?
jordan  Jan 23, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Jordan. Sorry for your issue. Seeing as you purchased the Kicker from us, we have free tech support, just not via the Q&A pages. On your shipping confirmation email, there is a direct number to our techs. You can also reply to the email we sent, and we can have our techs troubleshoot via email. Which ever works best for you.

Q
I have a 2023 Chevy Silverado ZR2 with the 13.4" screen and Bose Audio System. Can I tap directly into the Bose amp harness 2 (per your research notes) behind the rear seat to draw constant +12 and chassis ground and into amp harness 1 for rear speaker line connections?
david  Jan 16, 2024
1 answer
A
You cannot power the Kicker 11HS8 from the chassis wiring, David. You must use the included power/ground wiring to run a positive wire directly to the positive terminal on your battery. You can ground the Kicker 11HS8 at a nearby chassis ground. For signal input, you can "tap-in" to a speaker signal located nearest to the Kicker 11HS8.

Q
Can it be installed vertically, such as behind a truck seat, rather than flat on the floor? I didn't see mention of this in the manual
will  Dec 29, 2023
1 answer
A
I see no reason why not, Will. The Kicker 11HS8 comes with mounting brackets or straps that can aid in install, and we have even had some customers post photos in the reviews section showing some vertical installs in the rear of truck seats! These Kicker subwoofer's sound great wherever you can fit them in!

Q
Will this product fit under the front seats of a 2019 Kia optima?
joe  Dec 09, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Joe. Thank you for your question. Powered subwoofers like this Kicker are designed to fit under most vehicles' seats. Unfortunately, we do not take those measurements here. If you have 14x9 and 3 and 1/4 inches of height, it can fit.
hogan  Dec 09, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Can you install 2 of these together on the same stereo? also can you controll bass using the remote and also adjust it on the stereo with the remote connected?
kenneth  Dec 08, 2023
1 answer
A
It would be possible to install two of these in the same vehicle. You would need to use two remote knobs, one for each sub. You could technically adjust bass using the stereo controls and also use the knobs that will come with the Kicker subs.
zachary  Dec 08, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Can the subwoofer inside be replaced if it goes out?
francisco  Sep 11, 2023
1 answer
A
We wouldn't advise it, Francisco. There are no user-replaceable parts on the Kicker 11HS8. I use these in my own personal setups, and they are extremely rugged and reliable. I have been leaning on mine for years with no issues!
bo  Sep 11, 2023 (Staff)
Q
If you install using rca connections should you still install the remote bass controller or control it with the head unit ?
shane  Jul 18, 2023
1 answer
A
This is a personal preference choice, Shane. The remote bass controller controls overall output on the Kicker 11HS8, while controlling from your head unit could give you a wider range of adjustment. Either option works great, just decide which works best for you!

Q
Can this be used with my 2022 Chevy truck with a Bose system?
richard  May 05, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Richard, and thank you for your question. As long is its a 12 volt system, it can work with any vehicle. Nice rig by the way.
hogan  May 05, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Would this powered sub be good to pair with my Jenson CAR710W?
andy  Apr 11, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Andy, and thank you for your question. The Kicker powered subwoofer is a great option to add bass to a 12 volt system. If you have an aftermarket stereo you would need to add an RCA cable, and the Kicker RCA to Speaker wire adapters, but everything else including power and ground cables are included.

Q
What is the Ohm rating on this unit?
jeremy  Mar 09, 2023
1 answer
A
An impedance rating is not provided as this is a powered subwoofer with its own internal amplifier.

Q
I have a Pioneer AVH 2550 NEX in a Ford Excursion. The manual says it has a sub outlet on the back of stereo but I also read here that you can splice into the back speakers ( which sounds easier ). Which is better ? Is there another under the seat powered sub option ? I feel like I need at least 200 watts ( because of the large space ). Thanks
harley  Nov 30, 2022
1 answer
A
The Kicker 11HS8 can accept speaker-level or line-level signals, so you could connect it with either method. But with an aftermarket head unit, it's typically best to use its subwoofer preamp output so that you'll have the option to adjust the subwoofer level directly from the head unit. Despite being compact, this Kicker powered sub delivers very impressive bass response. If you're looking for a balanced sound with solid bass, but not necessarily trying to shake the windows, it's a fantastic option.

Q
What wire do I need to connect the sub to my aftermarket radio, or does it come with it?
keith  Nov 05, 2022
1 answer
A
This actually needs a small wiring adapter to convert the RCA outputs from your aftermarket radio Hayden, you might need two pieces actually! Check out this first link below, this is an RCA to speaker level adapter (the Kicker HS8 does only have speaker level input wires). The Rockford Fosgate RFiF2SW in the first link below is the most economical choice. If you have an RCA cable on hand, the Rockford adapter is all you need. If not, add one of our Crutchfield 2-channel RCA cables in the second link below to connect to your radio, the 17-foot option is long enough for most any application. I hope this helps! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_575RFIF2SW/Rockford-Fosgate-RFiF2SW.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_007CMER217/Crutchfield-Reference-2-Channel-RCA-Patch-Cables-17-foot.html

Q
Can you install the this unit behind the back seat of 2020 Toyota Tacoma, instead of the under seat?
raymond  Jul 11, 2022
1 answer
A
According to our research there isn't enough space for a sub box to fit behind the seats of the 2020 Tacoma. If you'd like to double check the area you want to install this sub, the dimensions of the box are 14-1/4"W x 3-1/4"H x 9-3/8"D.
allison  Jul 11, 2022 (Staff)
Q
What's the minimum clearance needed or suggested between the subwoofer and the bottom of the seat. Does it just need to not touch the underside of the seat? Or is there more space that's advisable?
the dabbler  May 27, 2022
1 answer
A
Under seat subs such as this Kicker 11HS8 Hideaway don't require any specific clearance. As long as the sub isn't right up against something causing vibrations there is no issue. Most powered subs are class D and lower wattage which don't produce a ton of heat.
allison  May 27, 2022 (Staff)
Q
How much clearance is needed between the subwoofer and the bottom of the seat? I have a Prius V, and want to put it under the back seat, but there's lower clearance there than the front seat. What is the recommended clearance between the woofer and whatever is just above it?
the dabbler  May 27, 2022
1 answer
A
This Kicker sub has a rugged enclosure, so as long as you have the required 3-1/4" for this unit no additional space is required. You can slide this under a seat or stack groceries and things on top of it and it will still sound great! Since this one comes fully enclosed unlike traditional larger subs, no additional clearance needed! These bang too for the size.
bo  May 27, 2022 (Staff)
Q
My 90's Pioneer receiver doesn't have a sub out, only a preamp out. Do I connect it there? Won't that turn off the internal amp to the factory speakers on the receiver? Should I splice it in with the rear speaker wires to get signal?
brad  Apr 25, 2022
1 answer
A
Typically, the internal amplifier in a car receiver does not automatically turn off when using the preamp outputs. When a receiver does not have a subwoofer preamp output, but has either front or rear preamp outputs, those become the next best outputs to use to send audio to this powered subwoofer.

Q
What setting is this sub supposed to be on when connected straight to the battery and how can I test for the perfect amount of power to safely use without popping it?
justin  Mar 31, 2022
1 answer
A
I wouldn't run it straight off the battery. Run it from a switched source so it powers down when vehicle is off. I believe the fuse is rated for 15 amps. Any source, 15 amps or under will be just fine.

Q
Can I use the power and remote turn on, and rear speaker inputs to my 11hs8 from my fosgate 600 amp? It's in the same vicinity as where I want to put the sub. Just basically splicing into the wires that are already running the amp?
brad  Dec 30, 2021
1 answer
A
Yes just use a fuse block with 2 fuses and 2 separate power wires from main single wire so you can step down fuse to smaller amp. Also make sure you use a separate ground to the strong metal of the vehicle

As long as you get the wiring kit, you should have everything you need. Just be sure and plan your wiring ahead of time. That will save you a lot of headache and wasted wiring.

Q
Is this unit able to be connected on a motorcycle? (2020 Triglide Ultra) with Harley Davidson head unit
jason  Mar 09, 2021
1 answer
A
I have installed two of these, both in enclosed vehicles. I don't see anything that would explicitly prevent it being installed on a motorcycle, but I do see some potential challenges; Will your alternator/battery supply the power needed? Do you have a location where it can be securely be installed? Will that location be protected from moisture? As far as connecting to a specific head unit, I don't seen any issue as you have the flexibility to connect it using a low level amp output connection or tie it into a high level speaker connection. If you have the available power, a good location, and the knowledge/patience to securely wire and attach it, I would imagine you could install it on anything with a stabile DC power supply. As a side note, I have been very happy with these for what they are, but I feel like the enclosed space of the car contributes to the audio presence of these units (150 watts isn't much if you end up needing to compensate for a less than ideal install location). I am sure you would notice an improvement, but I can't say for sure that improvement won't be a little less when used in a more "open air" scenario. That is only a guess and not meant to discourage, it's just a thought that might help set realistic expectations. If it were me, I would probably still give it a shot if I had a good install location and the power to support the load. I can't think of any better options that wouldn't require building a custom box.

No you do not need to plug it directly into the head unit. You can splice in to the positive and negative leads off of your rear door speakers and then wire that directly into the harness that plugs in to the hideaway sub.

Since this sub is connected via a singe wiring harness, can both the power and signal cables be run on the same side of the car or is it recommend to still run power and signal on opposite sides?

I don't think it matters unless you're worried about crosstalk between the signal wires and the power wire, but I don't think thats likely to happen. I ran mine on the same side simply for packaging reasons, no problems so far.

Not sure, best to ask Crutchfield
bill  May 18, 2020
A
i've installed plenty of car stereo systems over the years and I've always found that it is best to run your power cable on one side of the vehicle and your signal cables on the other side. If you must run a signal cable and a power cable on the same side make sure you use quality power cables with insulation and a quality signal cable that is well insulated. Try to do some sort of separation so they're not running side-by-side.

The Sony radio I got had a connection for rear sub ex's jacks so I just used that. It works fine and I have had no trouble with it. Hope this helps.

Yes hook in sub connection on receiver. This is a powered sub, so you don`t want the receiver to power it also. Hooked this up in June 2018, its an excellent sub for limited space. I mounted it to the back cab wall of my F250 extended cab camper truck. I am very pleased with it. I`m sure the techs at Crutchfield can advise you better than I. Cheers

I have 2019 Ram 1500 Classic Crew Cab and trying to figure out the best spot to put this. Under both the driver and passenger seat there doesn't seem to be enough room where did other Ram owners put theirs? Any issues?
brandon  Jul 17, 2019
1 answer
A
Unfortunately, I cannot speak for location on the Ram, but as for my '15 Silverado Double cab, I fabricated a frame that fit in the recess in the back wall behind the rear seat back. It was a bit too thick for underneath the passenger seat, which is where I wanted to fit it.

Q
Does this have a crossover that will limit the frequency sent to the speakers? i.e. all frequency under say 150hz is handled by the sub then the upper frequencies sent to the speakers?
chris  Jun 25, 2019
3 answers
A
This is an amplified bass speaker, it does have built in crossover for high and low, but it does not support added speakers. This is an all in one low profile speaker. I used mine to fit under drive seat. Awesome sound and saved space!
blake  Jun 25, 2019
A
I believe it does have an active crossover control, but I set it at the beginning and have never touched it after that. I also bought passive crossovers but never used them. My Alpine had settings built in that made adjusting the frequencies for the speakers easy. Sounds great! I do use the Alpine equalizer control to turn the sub up or down depending on the material being played.
michael  Jun 25, 2019
A
It has a crossover to choose what the sub handles but does not reduce or change what your car speakers do. I blew this sub twice. My suv was just too big. I swapped it out for a 1,000 watt 15". I have plenty of bass but less room.

Will this work with w/Sony touch screen factory head unit w/navigation in my 2012 f150 lariat? How does editing work?

Yes it will work with any factory system. All it requires is a power, ground, turn in lead (ignition) and left & right audio. Crutchfield will be able to tell you what wires from your head unit you need to tap into. FYI, they are usually really weird colors.

I don't see why not. I installed mine in my 2018 Subaru CrossTrek with the factory touch navigation head unit. I did have to hardwire it through the factory speakers, though.

You will need a separate amp to power other speakers.

The amp size and power is to power the speaker that is enclosed. I dont think you should use it to power more speakers. It is not large enough nor does it draw enough power

You would need a separate amp for that.

Would this fit in a Chevrolet Avalanche?
jamey  Dec 10, 2018

I have this unit installed behind the seat bench of a 1991 Toyota Pickup. It's a pretty small interior if you're familiar with that truck. The Kicker unit is about the size of an oversized amp. If you're looking for more bump than door speakers, but not trying to rattle your windows than this is perfect.
christian  Dec 11, 2018
A
For sure. I had an avalanche. It's about the size of a large book. Make sure you get the RCA to speaker wire kit too. The amp doesn't have RCAs.
todd  Dec 11, 2018

It was installed in a Chevy Silverado pickup under the passenger seat. It should fit under the passenger eat of the Avalanche just fine.

You should be able to find a spot to mount this unit. Just take a look at the dimensions and see if you have a space large enough. Typically these are mounted on the cab wall, behind the rear seats or under a seat if enough room.
barbara  Dec 10, 2018

I would say yes, but you should measure the dimensions under your seat. This fit under the seat of a Scion xB.

Two Questions... will this fit under the driver's seat in a 2019 Toyota 4Runner -- and also, I would be completely new to the installation process, is it difficult to install?
scott  Nov 23, 2018
2 answers
A
I have my 11HS8 under the driver's seat of a '06 Subaru Forester, which doesn't have acres of available space. It will fit comfortably under the front seat of my '17 Toyota Tacoma (either side), which I'm thinking should be similar to your '19 4Runner. As far as installation, Kicker's included instructions are very good and you always have Crutchfield's tech department a phone call away. Take your time (plan a full morning and afternoon if this is your first installation foray), get a set of interior trim removal tools (they're worth every penny...), a good set of crimping pliers and dive in. If you use the speaker level inputs, you'll need to splice into the factory speaker wiring. Use a butt connector (Scotch blocks are totally worthless, run away quickly), strip your output wire from the stereo about 1/2", double the bare wire back on itself and twist. You should have 1/4" bare and double the normal thickness. Insert into one side of the butt connector and crimp. Strip 1/4" from the input side (this is the other side of your cut, going to the factory speakers), strip 1/4" from the Kicker's input wiring, twist these two together, insert into the other side of the butt connector and securely crimp. Make sure you match left-to-left channel, right-to-right channel and your polarity (+ or -) and you should be downtown. Like I said earlier, take your time and before you know it, you'll be basking in the glow of success and killer sounds.
ruth s  Nov 24, 2018

Yes it will fit, installation easy except for getting power from the battery which means you have to go through the firewall. Personally I would not recommend the unit. It did not provide the bass I was hoping for. My wife's stock stereo in our Highlander has a fuller sound with better thump. Just my opinion

By what I can remember, the parcel shelf on a air-cooled Type I is kind of like cardboard or thin MDF. Tucking the 11HS8 back there should work fine. Remember, bass waves (at the frequency a sub operates at...) are non-directional, meaning that you don't have to be line-of-sight for good sound. The Type I is also a small passenger compartment, so a 8" sub will provide a nice, full sound. It won't rattle your fillings, but if set up and tuned correctly it will provide a satisfying "thump". Don't be afraid to play with the gain and crossover points to really blend with your other speakers. It's fairly simple to install if you have some basic ability (and Crutchfield tech is but a phone call away), needing power and ground (which I would pull from your battery that's under the back seat), turn-on power (from your head unit), and speaker connections (or line-level if you use Kicker's adapter, which is a slick little item). Use the provided Velcro straps to secure your sub, take your time running the wiring, and you'll be downtown in a couple of hours. What you're proposing is really not much different than mounting a sub box in the trunk of a typical sedan. With the smaller area behind the seat and the fact that it is really a integral part of the passenger compartment, I think you'll be happy with how it's going to turn out. By the way, I listen to everything from jazz to hard rock and metal, country/country-rock to old-school hip-hop, and a bunch of other stuff and the 11HS8 satisfies my performer's ear (I have mine paired with JBL Club series 6-1/2" components and 5-1/4" coaxials).

We do not have the available space dimensions under the seats in your vehicle. The Kicker is very compact (14-1/4"W x 3-1/4"H x 9-3/8"D) so, it will likely fit but you can use the provided dimensions to be sure it will fit within the space you find there.

Randy, I installed this in my 2009 chevy 2500HD. It installed pretty easily to my stock system. I'm really not sure about a dodge. This adds just enough base to system to make it sound great. I installed this unit and placed it under my passenger front seat. That is why I chose this unit. It does not take up any useful real-estate in side the cab. Under the seat is perfect. A 12v remote wire would only be the "preferred" method if you're connecting the Kicker 11HS8 via low-level (or RCA) inputs--if you're using the high-level inputs, the DC or "auto turn-on" would work just as well. It should do the job for you. I don't have mine turned up all the way capacity wise and it is excellent. Mine is in a 2015 Subaru WRX so a much smaller vehicle but it should be good in a Yukon. Make sure your other speakers are of high quality so the combination of everything works well together. An amp helps it all tie in together well.

I purchased this subwoofer for my Toyota MR2 because it is a 2 seater with space limitations. It was a great choice for me. It's not a block party, however it fills the space with the right amount of bass. I added some passive low-pass filters on my rear speakers which were only 4", so I can still crank out some sound when I want to without overdriving my tiny rear speakers. With 5 1/4" speakers in the front, I have plenty of sound. I am very pleased.

When I added more bass from head unit, it did add more bass from the kicker unit. I would say yes, it does work.
thomas  Dec 30, 2016

No remote needed. HU will control it for the most part, although you won't have separate sub control from the HU because of the lack of RCA wiring. Ideally, turn up to what would be your loudest, set the gain and bass boost on the sub and be done with it. You can turn the bass EQ up in the HU to gain a little more but you have to watch because it'll turn the bass up in the door speakers too and maybe distort them

It has left/right high and low level inputs, I do not know what would happen if you connected mono to one or both inputs. Kicker tech support was responsive when I had an issue. I will say do not plan on using the "auto power on" feature, it did not work properly and I had to run a wire from the radio to the kicker to tell it to turn on. Good luck!

I had the Kicker Hideaway Sub installed in my 2010 Mazda 3, but now it seems like my mid/high bass ranges have gone down considerably. Front and rear speakers are all factory as well as my deck. Before the sub install, the mid/high bass ranges were decent and much louder. Are there any options other than installing a sound processor? And if I do install a processor, is there a way I can loop the signal back to factory deck ampilifiers so that I dont have to by an external amp for my fronts and rears? Thanks
boom  Feb 15, 2016
1 answer
A
There aren't any sound processors we carry that would work without also adding an aftermarket amp to your system. That said, I think adding a processor and upgrading the factory speakers in your car and then adding a new amp to power them would be the best option for getting an upgrade in full-range sound quality. You can view a full selection of the sound processors we carry on our website here: http://www.crutchfield.com/g_318850/Factory-System-Integration.html I hope that helps. This won't do it for loud and distortion-less, you'll need to go to a 12" in an enclosure. This will just round out a lackluster bottom end. This will distort once you turn it up to impress friends.
dennis  Dec 17, 2015
A
This thing has crazy bass for it's size. It has a wide range of adjustment - supplements the other speakers for well rounded sound and can be cranked up to produce major bass without distortion or popping. You really must use the wired/remote level control that comes with it for adjustability. My specific case is that it is mounted under the passenger seat - the vibration can be a bit much for a long ride - so mounting elsewhere is probably better anyway.

The hideaway is not for rattling the car doors of people next to you in traffic but it does add some very nice low end and punch at moderate volume levels. Brett, I have a 2006 Ram Quad Cab, speaker is in middle of and under rear seat, facing up. Does not take up too much room. This speaker will enhance the door speakers (midranges even) and add base of course, or seems to for me, has a knob installed in dash that controls how much base you want. I am happy with it, however, it will not rattle the windows if that is what you are asking. Try one or two if needed. Hope this helps.

I have mine under the rear seat of a 2012 4 door F150. Fits in same spot as factory sub. No problem. Fills in the low end range great for a full sound, but I would not say that it does great with really low frequency. More of a tight bass for country/rock. May not be the best for rap music, speaker will start to bottom out.

No need for two. Try just one if you are looking for boost of the bass. It is a good unit. You can always add one more afterward if you consider placement of the first one with that in mind. I have had this unit for 2 years with no issues. It is a dependable unit with good boost of factory bass.

I've got one in a 2004 Chevy Avalanche, with a Kenwood headunit and speaker upgrades, plus in a 2015 Kia Soul with the factory radio and speakers. It works GREAT in both. You don't need two. To me it would be too boomy.

I am only using one, but it is in a '53 F100 truck. I am completely satisfied with it and the performance is way beyond my expectations. If you are installing it in a full size vehicle or extended cab, you may want a second unit, but I would try a single first. The performance is amazing.

Q
Can you hook up this amp to a single preamp output from my head unit, and if so how?
daniel  Nov 04, 2015
1 answer
A
Kicker makes the KISL Audio Interconnect cable that you attach to the speaker wire input cables that come with this amp which allow you to connect it to preamp outputs on a radio.

I have an Alpine MRV-F305 4 Ch amp. It has 2 preOuts RCAs next to the 4 input RCAs. Can I run those to the powered sub? Someone told me that wouldn't work. To me preOuts sound like pre-amp leads. Thanks

A
Kevin, yes you can use the preouts RCA's for the signal to the Kicker subwoofer. I've done this with two different headunits in two different vehicles. It works great! Just use very good cables and you'll will be amaze at the sound coming out. No problem

Q
What is needed to install this to a factory headunit in 14 ram 1500 with standard uconnect 5.0 audio system?
ryan  Aug 16, 2015
2 answers
A
You have 2 choices that I know of. 1 - pull the unit out and check the back to see if there is RCA jacks for SUB. Being a stock unit I doubt it as its all probably done with a plug in harness. In which case... The 5.0 system should already be feeding a separate sub somewhere in the truck. Track that down and take the wires feeding the sub, disconnect them and feed them to the new sub.

Q
Does this need a a hot wire from the battery as well or does it draw all power from the head unit?
paul  May 20, 2015

A
Run the hot wire directly from the battery, including the ground. That way you have a solid connection and not hurt the sub. Plus, to me, it's just safer to do it this way. I've done two like this and have never had a problem.
douglas e  Nov 18, 2015
A
Absolutely run the power wire directly to the battery, including the ground. You'll have less problems and feedback doing it this way.

Yes, and it comes with a hot wire with inline fuse to connect to your battery.

The unit provides you with a power wire that extends from it's provided wiring harness. On the power wire a fuse is provided. You will need to run the power wire directly to the battery terminal to draw enough power.

It's about 3.5" tall. Depending how much clearance you have between the bottom center of the seat to the carpet, it may be a tight fit. Ideally, you want to mount it behind the passenger's seat. I have re-installed it in a 1994 Mazda Miata and space is premium in this car. Only suitable location to mount it was behind the passenger's seat. I believe the 370Z is also two seater? Also, keep in mind that the remote bass control is pretty much useless, you want to ensure that you can adjust the base setting on the right side of the unit to adjust it once in a while. One last thing, pre-amp input does not make this unit come alive. Tapping into high speaker level input is much better, you will get the most out of this powered sub.

Mark, while I don't know how much room is under your seat, I do know that it fits nicely under my Jeep seat with a little room to spare. The best I can advise you for your situation is to measure the open area under your seat that doesn't have anything blocking where the sub would fit, like electronic modules for power seats/heated seats, seat belts, etc. I also used a box I had laying around that was the same size as the sub, just to see how difficult it would be to actually get something under the seat (like a puzzle box or game box), because you might only be able to get something under the seat from one direction, like from the back seat floor. Hope this was helpful.

I don't know about your 370Z but I can tell you that I installed this Kicker behind the passenger seat in my 1991 Mazda Miata with only minor incursion. It sounds great. Good luck.

Q
What does the blue wire connect to?
woodcat2379  Nov 02, 2014

A
The Blue wire is the remote turn on wire. You splice it with the blue remote turn on wire on the back of your headunit. This turns the amp on when you turn your stereo on (or start the car).
