Tiny Truck Not So tiny Bass
Mitchell from Northumberland, PA on 11/13/2020
This sub will never give hard hitting bass but it does fill the void in my Japanese Mini Truck. It gives the system an overall warm and satisfying sound quality. And best of all it fits!
Pros: Small Footprint, low power consumption.

Great add on to compliment your stereo.
Michael from Shrewsbury, MA on 10/27/2020

This little self powered sub packs a decent punch without making everything vibrate and blowout your eardrums. I am middle aged so I DO NOT want a big heavy ported 2x12" 800W box in my trunk. I am a bit of am audiophile and musician so I pick up on every little note, sound, beat, etc. This helps fill out the overall sound to your stereo. I only gave it 4 stars because its not just plug n play. You need to make adjustments and im still trying to find the sweet spot. Its close but im still breaking it in. Fyi, its very important to use remastered tracks in FLAC/CD quality if possible. Makes a huge difference on your listening experience. Also use an equalizer to help clean up and brighten your sound.
Pros: Adds a nice punch to your existing stereo.
Cons: Not really a con, but dialing in the controls are sensitive and take time to find the right punch your looking for without distorting.

Wasn't looking for a lot of boom, but more of a well rounded sound, some rumble, and would fit out of the way. This really did the trick! Sound is great. Hits hard for what it is. I just can't seem to find a certain band of low-mids that my door speakers miss too. Would definitely recommend though, sure it just needs more fine tuning.
Pros: Compact, fits under seat easily Powerful for its size
Cons: Missing range of sound Can distort slightly at very high volumes

Trevin from Maryland on 9/21/2020
2015 Toyota Tacoma
The Kicker HS8 sounds great! More than most will need to add bass to your ride. It's not going to rattle your windows but there is plenty of low end thump. This replaced a 10" powered Rockford Fosgate that was taking up room in the back floorboard of my 2015 Toyota Tacoma Access caB. This is honestly just as good but less than 1/2 the size and under my seat. I only gave 4 stars because it doesn't have RCA inputs. Crutchfield sent me an adapter for free a day later.
Pros: Surprisingly low end for an 8"
Cons: Doesn't come with RCA inputs.

Yep. I told a few friends about this purchase and one flat told me there is no way I can get deep, powerful and unrelenting bass from a compact sub. He still tries to find a hidden woofer Everytime I give him a ride. This little wonder provides such solid sound I loose no bass when my top is down which is typically the case.

Very nice product and easy install. I know its a lot to ask of a smaller speaker but a little more thump would be nice. This being said I am still learning how to dial this in. All around a solid unit to install in a 2008 jeep wrangler.

Installed this behind my seat in my tractor. Upgraded the head unit in my John Deere to Kenwood KMM-X704 Digital Media Center and coupled it up with Pioneer 4x6s since that's all that will fit my tractor and put the kicker behind seat. This set up turned out to be totally awsome sound for a tractor. This setup is as good as the nice stereo in my cars and maybe better. Perfect!!! Won't be bored cutting hay anymore!
Pros: Easy hook up with all wiring except you'll need the RCA coupler to connect to your head unit
Cons: None

I would give 5 stars because the system was a breeze to install. Great price. Enough bass to sound amazing and not vibrate the cars next to you. Only reason you lost a star was because I waster $30 on the kicker kisl because this product says it is sold separately. It was included so I didn't need to order the extra parts. Pros: Easy instruction and clear directions on set up.
Cons: If barrel connectors were provided as part of the installation kit, it would make it 100% flawless. They were only $3.50 for (20) and all I needed was (2) so this should be a cheap add/change.

Great for tight bass without losing space.

2019 Hyundai Tucson
I finally have a great sounding car audio system, which I've wanted for awhile. Best of all, it was possible without losing the factory look or cargo space on my 2020 Hyundai Tucson. The 11HS8 produces tight bass that compliments the system while essentially invisible under the front passenger seat. It pairs beautifully with 45W to each door.
Pros: Clean, tight bass. Doesn't compromise space. Many options for perfect sound match. Adjustments are on the narrow side of enclosure, which prevents accidental manipulation or damage if kicked when mounted for maximum recess underneath seat.
Cons: Adjustments are on the narrow side of enclosure, which may limit access if mounted for maximum recess underneath seat.

Put this sub under the front seat of a 2008 Jeep Wrangler and WOW!!! Have a pioneer sub in the cargo area in the factory sub housing that was pretty wimpy, even with an amp. Perfect addition for the cost
James from Raeford, NC on 6/15/2020
This little box is amazing. I have a 1994 Ford F-150 single cab with limited space and it easily fit. The instructions were perfect and installation went perfectly. It was the perfect addition to round out the sound quality in my truck as I had previously installed the Kicker DS series 5 1/4s in the doors and 6/8s behind the seats. They were great for the mids and highs and this perfectly fills the gap on the low side. I know feel like I am listening to all my music again for the first time. I will suggest that you go ahead and purchase the Kicker left/ right channel plug adapters if your head unit has the option since they are not included and have some extra wire available if you are using the remote feature from the head unit since the wire on the speaker is very short, over all this compact powered sub is worth every penny.
Pros: Space saving, easy installation and instructions, great quality sounds
Cons: The only con would be the short remote wire. I think it should be made with a wire at least as long as the left/ right speaker wires.

This is not a booming sub but it does offer deep bass i can enjoy rock and hip hop in my car with ease it delivers amazing sound for such a compact design i love the way this sound installation was extremely easy im actually thinking about getting the 10 inch version to put under the other seat it looks like its actually the same size package except the sub. Im extremely impressed with it and very happy. On that note I gotta say that the customer service on this site is definitely second to none I have a tendency to over think things and I called several times for help and everyone of the people I talked to were not only accommodating they were extremely knowledgeable. I cant describe a better experience online at all. Please keep up the incredible work
Pros: Great bass for the size Fits right under my driver seat in my 04 rsx with minimal sight of the speaker Super easy to install Best customer service I've ever had online by a mile
Cons: When I play very bass intensive music it distorts a bit I had to turn the gain all the way uup.im a little worried its gonna go out faster

Almost perfect. I purchased an open box unit outside of Crutchfield due to an excellent price. The unit itself was in perfect condition but they forgot the mounting straps and screws. Didn't matter though as I fabricated my own retention system with stuff I had l lying around. Installed it in a Fish n' Ski boat to give it some extra bump. It really does work well for being such a small unit. Two minor gripes: 1. The unit's remote turn on wire and ground wire should be much longer. Fiberglass boats often don't have nearby ground opportunities and cars head units are usually more than 2 feet from where this sub would be placed. Wire is cheap Kicker! Make those two wires longer! 2. The unit really should have low power RCA inputs built in. This would make install even faster. Or at the very least include the "kisl 2-channel speaker cable to rca adapter" with the kit. Which you absolutely will need if want to plug into your head unit's RCA sub output. The fact that it's not an "all you need is in the box" solution is mildly annoying because the extra bits to make it a total package perfect kit are extremely inexpensive and wouldn't hurt the profit margins for kicker. Remember, get extra blue remote wire and the "kisl 2-channel kllseries speaker cable to rca adapter" if you want to use your RCA outputs. That being said, I was able to make it work just fine even without the long wires and missing straps. It sounds great and is a good solution for boa
Pros: Bumps pretty good for a single 8" Easy to install (*with NOT included but needed parts" Great for boats too.
Cons: Needs longer remote and ground wires Should have RCA inputs built in

I was interested in this option over some others because of the turnkey nature, paired with a decent price point and reputable brand... in the end It's OKAY - definitely serves the purpose of a turnkey option for adding SOME low end to a factory system that didn't have a sub... But frankly it's MAYBE not quite as good sounding as the factory sub in my wife's Ford Edge, which was a little surprising. I have a crew cab truck and it's mounted to the rear wall behind the rear seat. I think it would be better sounding in a longer vehicle, like an SUV, so that the sound would be smoothed out over the longer distance. To me it sounds a little too bright/punchy (which can be mitigated a bit with the low pass filter settings), but I would be a lot happier with a 10-inch option for around the same price point/convenience.
Pros: It's pretty tiny. Fires behind my rear seat and I can still fold the seat up/down
Cons: Not a great solution for a truck otherwise. Would benefit from being in a vehicle with an open cargo area - like a wagon - so the sound can reverberate more.

Had recently purchased Pioneer head unit with 4 Polk speakers for my trusty old Honda CRV - figured she made it through 100,000 miles and deserved an upgraded audio experience for the 2nd 100,000 miles. Although the new sound system was a huge improvement I felt it still could use some additional bass range - I tend to listen to music at a high medium volume and want a full clean bodied sound. To minimize intrusion into cargo space I wanted it under the seats in the back - this Kicker unit was well reviewed and ended being perfect. Great fit, east to wire up to the existing system and definitely fills things out without being a window shaking over the top nuisance. Would encourage you to consider it
Pros: space saving under seat installation, great bass enhancement without window shaking

2004 Ford Explorer
This is a really nice fit for my vehicle and music listening wants. It was relatively easy to install under a rear seat and produces clean punchy bass. I don't have a huge system nor did I want major bass or to spend major money. I just wanted to add sufficient fill on the low end without sacrificing any of my vehicle's functional space. It's out of the way and takes up minimal space under a seat. I'm still tweaking it, but it sounds great and I'm now hearing and feeling music that I was missing with just door speakers. In a smaller vehicle, this Hideaway would be plenty for most systems.
Pros: Size, strong amp for this category, well built housing, sounds great, relatively simple install
Cons: Needed to buy separate RCA adapter for after market head unit. It's an inexpensive part that should just be part of the Hideaway cable bundle.

I'm getting a little older and thought that I would go a little more efficient route this time and just put this in to add bass. I'm seriously amazed. The quality is crazy impressive. For the price I expected much better quality from Kicker. Installed 2 of these under the seats in my Oreion Reeper UTV using the hi level speaker outputs from the Fusion MS RA-55 bluetooth receiver. With the volume at 3/4 and the gain control at only 1/4 of the way up the subwoofer pops, almost sounds like it's blown. Turn the volume down the sub doesn't pop but you can barely hear it. Called Crutchfield and they sent me a replacement. Started from scratch. Brand new subwoofer , with the gain turned all the way down and bass boost all the way down as well turned the head unit up to 3/4 volume. Slowly started turning the gain up and again at 1/4 gain the sub starts popping. Not sure if the hi level speaker outputs of the fusion radio at 25x4 RMS is too much for it. Just spent another $60 on RCA cable, RCA Y splitters and speaker to RCA pigtails and going to try using the low level RCA output of the Fusion radio to see if I have better results. If not I am going to return both of these. Spent almost $500 on 2 of these. Thats alot of money for something that sound so bad. Unfortunately under the seats are the only place to put any type of sub in a Oreion Reeper. Wish there was room to put a bazooka tube somewhere, I've always had good luck with them.
Pros: Perfect size
Cons: Speaker can't handle any volume without popping

I have a 2013 Lexus ct200h and this Kicker lives up to its name, it also fits perfectly under the driver seat. With it only being an 8in sub, I wasn't expecting much but dayumm THIS THING SLAPS! Its great for those who love bass heavy music! Instructions on installation are vague especially for a first timer like me. Fortunately,a homie and I installed it through the support of youtube and whatnot it in a few hours. No need to waste money on professional installation if you could do it yourself or unless you're not into dealing with overwhelming number of wires! Thanks to Crutchfield for finding me the recommended Posi-Taps. I never knew about Posi-Taps but glad I got them and hope they hold up like people say the would in the reviews. Since every car is obviously different, hope one day Crutchfield can work on specific details on installation through their instruction manual. Other than that, this product is awesome! GO Rams!
Pros: Heavy bass Easy install (with help from a homie and Youtube)
Cons: Hardly to none instructions for installation such as, taking interior panels out, running wire through rubber grommet under passenger side foot rest to access battery, splicing procedures, and whether Posi-Taps should be connected to door speakers or factory radio.

This unit fit perfectly under the passenger side front seat of my 2016 JKU using the supplied mounting straps. And in that location, splicing into the factory speaker harness, and running the other wires couldn't have been any easier with the supplied wiring. As for sound, It compliments the four 77KICK10 speakers that I had recently upgraded to very well. I have the factory installed Mopar 430 head unit. This sub has a lot of punch, but I keep it turned way down. I'm an older audiophile who doesn't care for window rattling base (that freekin annoys me) I just want great sound in my jeep.
Pros: Great bass for the money, and doesn't take up valuable space.

First off, I want to say that I didn't purchase this little subwoofer and review the next day like some folks do. I have been enjoying this little subwoofer for several months now and believe that it will last. Some folks have said that theirs stopped working early on. I installed this subwoofer into my center console on a 2017 Toyota Highlander. Anyone who has one of these vehicles may agree that the sound system sucks! The subwoofer was very easy to install using the high level inputs from the stock radio. This subwoofer rocks! I am amazed at how much bass this Kicker subwoofer puts out for its size. The bass is very tight, clean and musical. The woofer will bottom out on extremely bass heavy recordings! The supplied bass knob does an excellent job of adjusting the volume. But, what do you expect from an 8 in woofer anyways? Don't expect to fill a whole SUV with this unit though. I believe it is intended for smaller vehicles! If you are on the fence, get off and buy one of these, it's a KICKER! They know bass and they did a fantastic job on the Hideaway.
Pros: Great bass for such a small package. Very easy to install.
Cons: None

Kicker 11HS8: Amazing Product and Service
Crutchfield customer from Brownsville, TX on 5/26/2019
Amazing service and fast shipping! I chose the open box option to save a few dollars and it came out perfect! All the documentation and accessories were there and in perfect working order. I set this up under my driver seat of my 2019 Tacoma Off-road and it sounds amazing. I definitely will be buying from Crutchfield again!
Pros: Compact and still has bump. Comes with all the wiring and mounting you need. Note that you will need some blue remote wire if you plan on running to the head unit. If you are using the rca ports to the back of the head unit, you will need the Kicker KISL kit (please see pictures on how I wired). I did not need additional RCA wiring to reach my head unit.
Cons: The remote wire is pretty short, so you will need more. Other than that, it is perfect!

I was missing something because my Jeep with the soft top just doesn't sound the best. I added this Subwoofer and it made the sound so much better. I hated to spend the money but I'm glad I did cause I was not happy with my system. Money well spent. Now my Jeep has some boom boom to it now .
Pros: Sounds good for a compact sub
Cons: Hard to tune for me cause I'm old school and not used to all this High technology in car stereos

I've had this for about a month now and absolutely love it. As many reviews stated, it's not going to rattle your car (or the neighborhood) but it adds a nice low-end to an existing system. I installed two - one under each seat and absolutely love the sound. I'd recommend this to someone that wants to add low end without muddying the music with loud bass.
Pros: nice full sound, adds low end to fill in the music, won't shake the car or neighborhood
Cons: I didn't like the factory harness, but that's personal preference. the sound and quality is great

Excellent lows for such a small compact unit! Incredible punch when adjustments are made to the settings! You will amplify not only your low-end but the overall sound of your car stereo. No matter what type of music you listen to, the sound improvement will be noticed.

2 of these under the back seat of my Chevy Avalanche. They won't blow your hair back or anything but really add the punch to a system.
Pros: Super easy install, compact, fits under the rear seat & doesn't effect the seat or midgate folding down.
Cons: A 10" / 250 watt version would be awesome!

I would like to use a headphone splitter (y-cable) as to only have to use 1 remote for the bass. Definitely recommend this unit! It is nice to be able to manually control bass levels.
Pros: Flexible bass levels, fit under seats, gets loud when you want it too!

Great sound from a compact source
Marc from Cary, NC on 2/4/2019
Got this for Christmas and had it professionally installed. I have a 2017 Honda CRV and the bass just wasn't quite there. I have been very pleased with this unit. The live version of In Live With Me by the Stones really came to life. It fit under my seat well. I did have to tune it - I had the base at 40 hertz turned up all the way and it made a rumble when there was little music. Just using the gain control, which I can reach by my steering wheel, gives me all the distortion free bass I want. I was really quite surprised with how good this sub sounds. I think placing it under my seat so I can feel the sound helps with the bass effect. Plus when my wife drives the car and the sub is turned up she says the sensations are pleasant.
Pros: Small, sounds great, several adjustments (bass enhancement, gain, cutoff) allowed me to tune it to my liking.
Cons: I haven't found any cons yet.

Nice Compact Sub Woofer
Rich from Virginia Beach, VA on 1/29/2019
I purchased this for my daughters 98 pathfinder last Christmas. She has a pioneer Head Unit, 100 watt per channel pioneer amp and 4 kicker KS series 6/3/4" door speakers. The system was lacking enough bass for her type of music. ;-) This 11Hs8 barely fit under the passenger seat, but it's under there. It will not rattle your teeth or shake the windows, but It adds just enough bass for her. When I'm listening to "my" music, I find myself turning up the bass controller for this sub as well. If you are looking for bone jarring bass, look elsewhere. If you are limited in interior space and don't want a big ugly "box" in the back of your truck/SUV that say's "steal Me", this is probably for you. Remember, this is a 150 watt 8", not a 500 watt 12" in a box.
Pros: Small, hidden from view when mounted under seat, nice sound.
Cons: A little pricey if not on sale.

Expensive Unit when not on sale, Unit blows/breaks very easily.
Tyler from Springfield, GA on 1/25/2019
So I received this unit as a Christmas gift, and at the time there was a sale running on Crutchfield. From looking at the reviews I thought this was a pretty good buy, oh was I wrong. Full disclosure, I know little about all the things that go into great sound. I wanted good bass at a price that didn't break the bank and at first this hit the mark. There were a lot of songs I listened to that had low bass that I was not even aware of. While it was working it was great. Now the bad, my first unit came in got installed by a local shop. The installer said do not bump up the bass past two or else you will risk blowing the subwoofer. Again, it started out great and I knew the subwoofer was under warranty so I pushed the bass up to 3 on my vehicle's settings. I played "Rockstar" by Post Malone, the subwoofer did not make it past the first chorus. I figured that was on me, i pushed it past 2. Because it was under warranty I got a new one free of charge. This one I kept the bass at a 1 in my settings. I played "KillShot" by Eminem about 2 months ago annnnnd it went out again in the first chorus. I talked to the install guy and a Crutchfield rep, told them everything i was doing and both of them said that the unit is meant to be pushed and that i was not abusing the unit. Deeply disappointed, would look somewhere else for a more durable powered subwoofer.
Pros: Great bass while it was working
Cons: Blows too easy, not durable. Went through two units within a year and half time span while not abusing the unit (confirmed by Crutchfield rep and installer). When not on sale this subwoofer is very expensive considering you are getting a 8" subwoofer with a 150 watt amp, you can get a subwoofer, a high watt amp (300 or higher), and an enclosure for the same price.

Tony from Allison Park, PA on 1/8/2019
I purchased the Kicker Hideaway as an addition to a new stereo system in my 2015 Tacoma. The head unit was replaced with a Pioneer 8400NEX (yes it fits, inclusive of the MRR unit, even though Crutchfield says it doesn't), along with the door speakers (used Kicker for the doors too). A 4 channel pioneer amp was installed to push the door speakers. The entire speaker system was purchased through Crutchfield, great pricing, free adapters, guaranteed fit and a quick delivery. The Hideaway was installed under the passenger side seat by another retailer (along with all of the other components - install/support program installed everything regardless of where it was purchased, can't beat it)... The Hideaway really fills out the bottom end of the system, it's a clean tight bass. The unit has a great frequency range, amongst the best on the market. It's also amongst the most expensive powered units, but the thought of an entire Kicker speaker system won out. I had purchased a separate sub, amp and box, but changed direction when I realized the installation hassle and loss of room with a 10" sub woofer, box and dedicated amp. This unit won't rattle you teeth, but it's a strong performer. It's more powerful than the Sony powered sub in my 2013 Ford F150, or the powered sub in my 2018 Dodge Ram 1500. Oh and the OEM Toyota speakers were complete junk, I was shocked at how cheaply they were made with puny magnets and light as a feather, just junk.
Pros: Strong bass for a small package
Cons: Pricey

better bass
David from Jackson, MI on 1/4/2019
I bought and installed 2 of the units in my 2013 Sonic. I installed them on the back of the rear seats and they sound great. They won't rock passing vehicles but they will vibrate everything in the car including the rear view mirror. Also, when sitting in a parking lot or at the gas station people know the bass is not coming from the factory speakers. Sure I would like more bass but not at the expense of losing the valuable space in my hatch.
Pros: nice bass from a system that doesn't get in the way
Cons: wish it was a 10" sub..

Equipment perfect, instructions not so much.
Steve from San Antonio, TX on 1/3/2019
I would give this 5 stars but the installation instructions were a little light on details (like are the provided screws self drilling etc) and the lack of instructions on setting up the gain, crossover bass boost etc. Additionally it would be nice if they had a site that showed tips/tricks for install in specific locations/vehicles. Now on to the important part... The bass is freaking awesome! Even though its an 8" and 150 RMS it really pounds; I had to turn the gain almost all the way down. Props to the folks at the Crutchfield tech support for walking me through adjusting the settings.
Pros: Solid built, good reviews, sounds great
Cons: Poor instructions

Powerful Little Sub
Joe from West Haven CT on 9/10/2018
Great little sub. Fits perfectly behind the rear seat of my 2006 double cab Tacoma. I've had mine for about 2 years. It sounds great and really adds depth to a sound system especially in a truck with tight areas. I actually had it broken for about a week (detail crew ripped my wiring out) and it was a huge change to actually see how much depth you gain from this little sub. Obviously not as deep and doesnt have the same punch as a set of full sized 10s or 12s but it does the job. However, it does have a punch that you can feel and I rarely turn it up over 50% of its power. Overall great purchase.

I'm not someone who normally writes reviews, but I love this little subwoofer so much that I had to write this. If you're thinking of buying this, I implore you to do it. Like others have said, at 8'' it won't blow your doors off, but it will round out your sound system so well providing the perfect amount of bass. I also love that it comes with a remote dial that you can mount conveniently near your head unit for easy bass adjustments. Very very satisfied! That being said, it's only been installed for 2 weeks, so I can't speak to the long term durability just yet.

It fit with plenty of room to spare behind the rear seat of a 2017 F250 Super Crew. Its very nice that the majority of the wiring needed is included. We listen to a wide variety of music genres and it does a very respectable job at hip-hop and rap. Very impressed with this little sub. The sound it manages to create from such a low profile is truly incredible. I am fairly conservative, and I couldn't possibly ask for more. A couple of things came up with my installation in my 2012 Volkswagen GTI. 1) This unit would NOT fit under the seat. It had to be mounted in the trunk. 2) The auto turn on feature caused a very strange sound from the sub, and it took some time to diagnose the issue. If you are installing this, be aware of the potential issues with the auto turn on.

Great unit, not too loud. It's a perfect addition to a Bose system.
Pros: Awesome sound for a small unit. Hides away perfectly under the back seat.
Cons: Wires are too short. I have a Suburban and wires would not reach from my head unit even if I could get it under my front driver or passenger seat. Plenty of power wire just not enough remote or RCA wires, not even close. I wish Crutchfield would have told me up front instead of telling me everything I needed was in the box. J from Clearwater, fl on 5/26/2018
After 5 months and finally setting the sub up with LOW LEVEL signal as opposed to speaker level inputs. The short story is this sub has exceeded my expectations. It hit surprisingly well for its size and completely fills in the missing low end of my sound system. If your aftermarket head unit only has one sub output, split it and use this for the sub signal instead of the speaker level input. Speaker level sends all frequencies to the sub resulting in distortion. Sub output is cleaner signal. Then connect the amp turn on wire to the aftermarket stereos amp remote lead and your set. Dial in the sub so it doesn't clipping at high volume and that's it. I am completely satisfied with this product and impressed with its performance despite its small size. Recommend recommend recommend!
Pros: Compact Fits discreetly under seat Unseen Punches sharply Great bass can feel in your chest
Cons: ... can't think of anything odd about it.

This is an excellent sub as long as you know what you're getting. You are not getting a sub that will give you a lot of low end bass. This sub is great for hard rock/heavy metal as well as some R&B and country, but don't expect a lot when it comes to rap. I have mine in a Chevy Silverado and it's just enough to not break the bank but deliver some good bass. I've had mine for roughly a month now and I love it! 2014 Ford F-150 FX4
This was installed in a 2014 F150 with the "upgraded" Sony stereo. I've already replaced all the door speakers with Polk db572 from Crutchfield which made a noticeable difference. I knew I'd need to replace the subwoofer to truly be happy with the system. Unfortunately I couldn't just tap the Sony sub harness as the Kicker didn't like the signal and would basically turn itself off when the volume got past 25%. After a couple of tech help calls, we determined I'd need to tap the rear speaker lines that were buried in the B-pillar. Once that was done everything worked fine. Overall I'm very happy with the performance and it provides enough bass for a truck cab- would do well in a hatchback or SUV as well. I don't think it would work well in a car trunk- it really needs to be inside the vehicle. I didn't try to fit it under a front seat but appears that might work well for some. I would recommend this for someone who realizes it's not an earth shaking, window rattling hip hop sub. I'm old and listen mainly to classic rock and metal, and it does great for that purpose. Crutchfield was great as always.
Pros: Small size, easy install, wiring harness with power, ground, remote turn on and speaker wires included
Cons: Speaker wires on harness may be too short for some applications. Needs to be in the vehicle (not located in the trunk)

Small and Mighty, Wish Wires Were Longer
Patrick from Hudson, MA on 1/30/2018
Installed in a 2006 ford ranger sport (extended cab) which has a pioneer single din. I absolutely love the sub. The sound this thing puts out is perfect for my little truck and adds just enough bass for my liking. Unfortunately it does not fit under the front seats as I had anticipated. I installed this behind the passenger seat and that worked out well. Eventually I will take out one of the fold down seats and hard mount it to the truck. The bass adjustment knob is really awesome and nice to have handy when changing songs if you want more/less bass. This unit can pick up a pretty good range of bass as well. The only things that I was disappointed about was: (1) the length of the speaker wire provided by kicker. The power cable and speaker wires and ground come in one single plug provided by kicker. The power cable was plenty long to reach my batter however the wires to splice to my head unit was about 2 feet short (and my ranger is already not that long). Luckily I had some extra 18G speaker wire laying around. (2) I wish Kicker or Crutchfield provided the Kicker RCA adapter so I didn't have to splice to my existing speaker wires on my head unit wiring harness. The install instructions on the pamphlet show this option but it is not provided. It would have been nice to have so I could simply plug and play and also have a little more control over the bass itself. Overall the install was fairly easy. It took me about 1.5-2 hours total
Pros: Awesome sound Easy Install Comes with two types of mounting headwear Bulletproof casing Low profile
Cons: Wires not long enough RCA adapter not provided

Get the 3 year warranty
Chris from Orlando, FL on 1/28/2018
Spend the extra money to purchase the extended 3 year warranty. I was unfortunate to not have given that offer when I ordered this over the phone and mine died out within a year. Thankfully Kicker has a 1 year warranty and Crutchfield immediately sent a replacement which I received in 3 days here in Florida. Bass sounds good and has a knob to adjust the bass. This bass is adequate for families which are not too thunderous for the kids. Initially I had this hooked up to a stock head unit and then added an aftermarket head unit and the bass seems to have gotten louder and cleaner. I highly recommend this item WITH the extended warranty.
Pros: Nice bass in a tiny footprint
Cons: It may stop working within a year of use.

Love this system. As many has stated on here, if you're looking for low pounding bass, this is not the right system for you. Great addition
Kris from Manchester, CT on 12/5/2017
It really is going to depend what you're looking for to determine if this sub is for you. If your goal is hard thumping bass and bone shaking lows, this is not going to do it. However, if you're looking for robust low end that adds to the depth and punch of your music, this will be exactly what you're looking for. I love how low profile it is designed; it fits easily under the seat and keeps out of the way. In my application, my 17 Mazda 3, with Bose, uses the front door woofers solely as subwoofers to create all the bass. The huge negative of this is the front doors rattle like crazy with even the slightest amount of bass. It was unbearable. What I did was install the Kicker to almost replace the factory door subs. I turned my bass down to 0 and compensated with the kicker. So far I am very pleased with the result. I actually feel like there is more punch than before but mainly, no rattles anywhere. As far as the installation, the included instructions were vague for a first timer, but a quick google search brought up a step by step installation guide on the Kicker website. Overall, if you are looking to add some low end grunt to your stock, or aftermarket system, without blowing the windows out, this is a perfect product.
Pros: Compact design Good bass clarity
Cons: Won't give loud heavy bass Not a replacement for a proper sub enclosure

overpriced junk
Lonnie from Petersburg, VA on 6/30/2017
I installed the kicker in my 2001 Silverado. Puts out no more bass than the 50 watt bazooka I have in my 2011 Silverado which costs half of what the kicker costs. Distorts too much when cranked. Quit working after 7 months.
Pros: fits under seat
Cons: quality, distorts

Great Compact Sub
David from Hillsboro, OR on 6/5/2017
Installed this in the "hidden" storage area in my 2016 Wrangler 2 Door. It fits perfectly and is perfect for my setup. Having a soft top or sometimes no top, having the sub out of sight keeps it out of mind. Very substantial build quality and comes with everything you need in the box, minus a set of interconnect cables if you are connecting to an aftermarket head unit.
Pros: Small, powerful, easy install, great sound.
Cons: None for my application. ALL PRO

Impressive thumps
Nathan from Marion, IN on 5/9/2017
I asked Crutchfield for something that didn't have to much bass, just enough to know it is there and enjoy it. I have the output on the unit itself a little below half and the remote control at about half and it really thumps. If you turn it up all the way it shows you how much it can do. It impressed me very much.
Pros: Turned up or down it sounds great
Cons: Nope

Fits the bill (and small spaces)
Brandt from Washington Court House, OH on 2/13/2017
I purchased the Kicker 11HS8 as part of the system for my '06 Subaru Forester (along with JBL Club 6500C's and Club 5020's). A large part of the decision to go with the Kicker was its small footprint and my previous experience with Kicker products. I have two teens so I can't afford to give up trunk space and the 11HS8 fits nicely under either front seat (I have mine under the driver's side). The supplied wiring harness is very generous, with roughly 16' of speaker lead and over 20' for power, which gives a lot of mounting and routing flexibility. My head unit has a dedicated sub pre-out and level control, so using the Kicker low pass filter at about 100Hz it blends very well with the JBL's. As with other reviews, the bass won't win any "spl drags" but fills out the bottom end well on everything from Sinatra to Metallica. For what this sub is, it fills the bill (and my missing thump) very nicely with typical Kicker build quality.
Pros: Small footprint, solid quality, good bass for tight spaces and budgets, generous wiring harness
Cons: Mounting options could be better

Inexpensive Bass
Kevin from Dahlonega, GA on 1/28/2017
This sub is great for the price. This will not blow you away, but it will add a nice solid bass boost to your system without taking up a ton of room. The amount of bass you get for the size of this subwoofer is impressive. The enclosure is nice and compact, and fits under my backseat with plenty of room to spare. My only complaints were with the included installation parts from the manufacturer. The head twisted off the first mounting screw i tried to use. Had to switch to some better quality screws that i had laying around. The signal input leads were nowhere near long enough to reach my head unit. Had to splice. Remote turn on lead was only like 18" long. Had to splice. The lugs for making the power connection were not the right size for the gauge of the power wire. Had to make a trip to the auto parts store to address each situation, which was very frustrating when you have your car torn apart doing an install. The power lead was plenty long enough and it would have been good if they would just make all the leads the same length as the power wire.
Pros: Good sound, Good price, very compact.
Cons: installation accessories could be better

Stealth boom box
Anthony from Metairie, LA on 1/19/2017
At the age of 51, I'm probably too old to be messing with this sort of stuff, but I do like my music and at the end of a particularly bad day, I find it soothing to be able to numb my senses with music that is just plain too loud. I drive an Avalanche and it is not a small vehicle. I decided to upgrade the audio, which consisted of the stock head unit running Kicker CS series door speakers. My upgrade consisted of a Sony MEX-XB100bt head unit (rated at 40wpc) and a couple of pairs of Polk db651s in the doors. For the bass, I took a chance on the Kicker Hideaway. I wasn't sure of what to expect, but with advances in speaker technology and the advent of class d amplification, I figured that I may well be pleasantly surprised. I have to tell you, I was very surprised. No, it didn't put out bass that made my rear view mirror shake or bother the people in the car next to me, but it integrated well with my Polks to provide a full range of sound. The music just plain sounds like it should. You do FEEL the music. The only thing I can think of that would be better would have been two Hideaways, so I have another on the way to go under the rear driver side seat. The beauty of the setup is that I won't lose any functionality. My seats will still fold as they did when everything was stock. I didn't have to modify or remove anything to make the Hideaway fit. Truth be told, I have room for 3 of them, but that would just be ridiculous.
Pros: Performance for its size and its size. It's little larger than an encyclopedia but really wakes up the system.
Cons: An adapter, that isn't included, is needed to use the low level outputs on an aftermarket head unit. The trigger wire is very short. The tie down straps didn't have me convinced that they could stop the unit from sliding, but I didn't want to pop any more holes in my truck, so I mounted it to a piece of plywood and attached carpet strips to the plywood. It doesn't budge now.

Shocked by the ouput!!
Billy from Oregon on 1/7/2017
Keep in mind while reading my review that since I was 15 the smallest system I've had was a single 12" sub with a 800 watt amp. I've always had dual amp systems with multiple 12 or 15" subs... with that said HOLY SMOKES I am impressed with the output of this lil guy. Hits bass notes I didn't expect it to. I wanted to put a single 12 in a truck box behind my seat but didn't want to sacrifice cargo space so I decided to gamble on this lil guy saficing and it exceeded my expectations and took up minimal space under my back seat in my crew cab truck. Highly recommend this product if you want to save space and give your system a healthy boost.

I love the sound in my 2016 Jeep Wrangler! The base is awesome! I had a professional who won 2 world championships install it. Now I bought everything Crutchfield said to install it however the amp/sub was getting to much hooking up from the front speakers that it kept going into the protect mode! Very disappointing but my guy fixed problem and now is running like a sub should! I did have to return the first sub and get an exchange because the first one must of been damaged in shipping and had a weird noise to it when base hit, but all in all now that it has all been lined out and fixed! It's awesome and if you know how to hook up if definately recommend if you want awesome base without the clutter of big boxes

Rich, full lows, and remote mounted at my fingertips means every song is perfect. Chad was very helpful and made sure I had everything I needed.

Great value!
Tim R from Rochester, MN on 9/27/2016
I read all of the reviews on this powered sub and it seemed it should fit the bill for what I was looking for. I simply needed a powered sub I could move around in my 06 TJ Wrangler and remove if I was worried about theft with having a soft top or the top removed. This gives me just that along with being a very good low end enhancement to my sound system(Kicker 41KSC464 4x6's in front and JBL Stage 502 in the sound bar) my deck has a sub out and this Kicker sub came with a wired remote that I had installed under my dash. I needed to set the crossover at 60 to be able to really pump up the volume as it sounded like it struggled a bit if I sent more range to it when I turned the volume way up. Simple installation and saving room in this smaller interiored vehicle is a real bonus! Had several people compliment me on the sound I get out of this small box!
Pros: Easy installation and mobility to move where I want it in the vehicle. Great low end for the size, perfect blend to the right combination of mid range and high end speaker! Seems to be a rugged construction which I need in the Wrangler.
Cons: Haven't run into any except needing to crossover at a lower range.

Because of a gift card, I actually bought this at a local retailer , not Crutchfield. But I like Crutchfield and thought I'd like to review it here, too. The Kicker Hideaway is an outstanding powered subwoofer. Fits perfectly under the front driver's seat of my 2011 Elantra. Wiring is relatively simple. Setup was quick and easy. Sound it amazing, Tight, Deep bass. It won't make heads turn from outside. But it fills in the low end very nicely within the cabin of the car, both with Classic and Psychedelic Rock and Classical music too. Great Sub. Exactly what I was looking for.
Pros: Great low end in a compact package. Simple installation
Cons: A little pricey

I put one under the driver seat and one under the rear bench and the sound is awesome... very well balanced. Other speakers are Polk dv6501's and kicker 2 ways pushed by an Alpine PDR-F50 and the two kicker hideaways pair great with it. A great option if you don't want to lose any space in your car or van. 2002 Trailblazer
Joe from Brookfield, CT on 5/1/2016
2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer
I mounted this under the passenger seat in my 02 Trailblazer. The height and width are a good fit . I have a non power seat and when the seat is all the way back the sub protrudes out about 2". The seat track release handle is in the way and does not allow you to move the sub further under the seat. Given all other optional locations it was least intrusive and my spot of choice. I mounted the sub with the wiring and controls towards the front of the seat to avoid the rear passenger from hitting the wiring. I can still get to the controls from the front. I used the mounting brackets instead of the strap. The install and wiring were fairly easy to do. I recomend the optional KISL speaker-level input adapter. As far as the sound goes this little sub is amazing. If your procrastinating or questioning this subs performance, stop! and just buy it. You will not be disappointed I can't believe the deep bass this compact sub produces. I never imagined the amount of bass this little combo could produce. If you want to make a scene driving down the block, this is not the sub for you. If you want to fill your car with great music and good clean bass sound ,this is all you need. It definitely packs a punch and will put a smile on your face. I paired this with a Blaupunkt San Antonio 640 navigation receiver and the sound is awesome.
Pros: Clean deep bass, compact, easy to install, sound quality, wiring and hardware included, good value, solid construction and it's a Kicker!
Cons: As far as the unit zero cons, maybe it should come with the KISL level adapter.

Powerful Amp/Sub Combo
PMB from silver spring, MD on 2/17/2016
It took a while for me to get the wire mass under the passenger carpet and out the back. After several attempts and some time, I used a thicker metal wire hanger with success to lead the wires underneath without screwing anything up. I placed this amazing unit under the passenger seat of a Toyota Corolla. Rocking it together with a Kenwood Exceleon KDC-X599 receiver, and Polk Audio 5" Coaxial DB501 in front and Polk Audio 6.5" Slim Mount Coaxial DXi651s in the rear. This unit is incredibly strong for its size, and its performance and clarity is amazing. I set the receiver's Polk Audio bass response down -1 on the adjustable band and everything is A+. A note of caution though. Don't go crazy with the bass too soon.
Pros: Compact, incredibly strong bass, amazing value, great customer support
Cons: Instructions could be better and with tips, no warnings on bass being deceptive

Perfect For Me: Extend Factory Radio Bass & Output in 2015 Accord
Eric S from Williamsburg, VA on 2/8/2016
I originally bought a Sounds Ordnance (S/O) compact sub, but it didn't provide bass my factory stereo wasn't already producing. I returned it & got this Kicker Hideaway and am VERY pleased. It fits under the passenger seat of my 2015 Accord Sport PERFECTLY, and goes deeper than the S/O (as the specs indicated it would), and it complements the sound MUCH better now; doesn't "step on the toes" of the factory stereo as the S/O did. This Kicker has nuance, and good sound quality at reasonable sound levels; it is significantly better than the S/O sub, as it should be for the price. It is a compact sub so it isn't going do what dual 15" woofers would. But I didn't want to sacrifice ANY trunk space (I carry around an electric bass and musical equipment), and didn't want to cut up my car. If you have a 2015 Accord LX or Sport (w/at least one manually-adjusted seat), then this Kicker is a MUST, along with a pair of nice Polk dB-1001 tweeters (which I added last year). The level control stealthily mounts in the console very discreetly, and it "goes to 11". Can't believe this is a mostly factory setup- Sounds great for my purposes (40%-80% volume on interstate commuting). If you want to make your ears bleed and shred phone books, look elsewhere and spend more.
Pros: Maximum bass in very concealable package Great sound quality
Cons: Wish it was $50 cheaper (go for open box buy)

The installation is pretty strange forward, I took just about half hour to get everything mounted. The unit has metal frame, you feel it pretty durable. I'm not impressed the sound quality, the power is enough for me, but the accuracy of sound is not what I'm expecting. I'm considering to try with the other brand or even different configuration for comparison. Maybe I'm too picky, overall, it is fairly ok.
Pros: Easy installation Metal frame, very well-built quality compact size to fit my car perfectly
Cons: Lack accuracy of low frequency sound

Diamondave from Alabama on 1/13/2016
Installed it under the front passenger seat. Wow, what a change. I also put 2 Kicker coaxials in the sound bar of the Jeep. These 2 mods changed the whole game. This is worth the effort. It took me about 3 hours to put it in and wire it up. I used the high inputs and scotch locked onto the front speaker wires. I did not use the blue wire. There is a YouTube video on how to get thru the jeep firewall on the left. I pulled power and ground from the battery to the unit with a #14 2 conductor, landscape light cable with terminals staked on. This sub is worth the $.
Pros: Adjustments bass thru wired remote, settable crossover
Cons: None for mounting u Der Wrangler passenger seat.

Size isnt everything
Travis from New Jersey on 12/5/2015
For the size of this little unit, it adds exactly what was needed in my truck. I have a 2003 Ford F250, extended cab, so I don't have alot of space for a sub. It took a little modification of a seat bracket in my truck, but otherwise it fits perfectly under my center front seat. Wiring is a extremely easy, no need to worry about where to find a hole to run a 8 gauge wire. My headunit is the original Pioneer AppRadio double din, all the speakers in my truck are stock (for now). I've had this sub installed for about a year now, it still sounds amazing. I can turn up the volume and walk away from the truck and hear the bass clearly from a small distance away. The way I have mine positioned, the bass resonates through the seats and adds that extra oomph I was looking for. Its just as good in the back seat. I don't even think my old kicker comp 10" in a well built box in my old truck sounded this good. Now granted for my application this is perfect. My radio is tuned so almost every genre of music sounds great without any re-adjustments. Sometimes it doesn't hit the real low notes too hard, and some songs just have too much bass where the sound starts to distort (and the included remote bass volume dial takes care of that) but I'm not mad, because with a driver so small it can only do so much. If you're looking for car rattling apart bass go elsewhere. If you're looking for crisp and smooth bass in a tiny package, you've hit paydirt
Pros: Compact Size Easy to wire Great sounding bass Remote Bass Volume dial included Easy set up
Cons: None in my mind

Great Sound from a Small Footprint
Steve S from Illinois on 11/24/2015
As most who have positively reviewed this product had pickup trucks, i wasnt expecting it to boom in my Jeep Renegade like it does. It really provides the low-end that my factory system was missing. I mounted on the back of my second row seats and it doesnt take away from my cargo area at all while staying off the floor and away form the elements. Really got a lot of bang for the buck.
Pros: Clean Bass Enough controls to tweak to perfection remote for controlling bass boost high level or line level input making tapping factory speaker wires easy using a +12v or Remote Trigger to turn the amp power on
Cons: The wiring harness is great for convenience in one attachment but sort of a nightmare for actually running the wiring. The speaker wires on the harness were too short, so i had to use a speedwire.

I returned a Sound Ordinance compact powered sub of the same size because it did not reproduce lower bass frequencies. I am much happier with this unit. It has a deeper frequency response (25hz vs 40hz) than the Sound Ordinance and it reproduces the lower bass notes in your music.

More than impressed
Rich from Illinois on 11/2/2015
This powered sub puts the icing on the cake for the sound system in my 2004 Jeep Wrangler. I wanted something that would fit under the front seat, and the dimensions seemed like it would, given that its difficult to actually measure the space under the seat I feel very fortunate that this fit (without any room to spare) between the seat mounts and low enough to allow the seat to slide forward and back without contacting the sub. I did have to get a little creative with the brackets to tie it down but I wont go into that, no fault of the mfg. or Crutchfield. As for the sound I'm hearing lower lows than expected and have had to play a variety of music and tune as I go to find the perfect balance. At first it was easy to allow to much base for my taste, I like to hear it as close to live or as close to the intended recording as possible. If you are looking for a compact Sub and aren't trying to drown out all other frequency's then this could be for you
Pros: Compact, plenty of frequency range, price was good
Cons: Would like to have had RCA inputs instead of the single Molex plug for all connections but that was only to make installation simpler, not detrimental to sound quality what so ever.

The review title is the bottom line here. This little package is a great deal. I'm going to assume that my unit doesn't have a short life span like many others have experienced. If indeed it does prematurely lay down on me, then my opinion will change greatly. So, on to the meat and potatoes. I purchased this unit to in a 2002 F-150 extended cab. I wanted something I could hide under the rear seat without removing the jack. This thing fit perfectly. Installation was fairly straight forward. If you have installed an amp before then you shouldn't have much problem here. I have to say, I don't care much for the wiring harness. Some might find it handy, I would have preferred to install with standard amp wiring. Also, the adapter required for low level input feels a little suspect, but I must say it has worked fine for me so far. Note: Make sure your phase setting is right when setting this system up after installation. It is potentially very easy to have this sub out of phase with the rest of your system in which case it could basically produce little to no sound. Oh, and about that sound...this thing kicks. I'm used to having full blown, high power systems in my vehicles, and this helps my truck keep up surprisingly well. The power really surprises me. For my application it actually produces a more boomy sound than the punch I was expecting, although a little tweaking can change that somewhat. So, if you're looking to add some bottom end to your set up, try it
Pros: - Small package - Great sound - Great value, especially from scratch and dent - Probably has almost everything you need in one box
Cons: - Separate adapter required for low level inputs - Required a little more tweaking than I'm used to - This specific unit seems to have a reputation for reliability issues

Amazing bass!
Steven from Springfield, MO on 9/14/2015
Easy to install, the wiring harness makes for quick hook up. Just would have like to see more about the remote turn on wire, that has to have power to work, but really easy. The grounding wire was short, but easy to extend.
Pros: Great bass and controls only about half way, makes my F-250 rock!
Cons: I needed more instruction on the remote turn on wire.

It's all about that bass
Nuklhed from Colorado on 9/6/2015
The kicker is that the Kicker 11HS8 kicks some butt. I was really impressed that such a big boom can come from such a small box and was greatly surprised after installing this in my 2004 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab. It fits perfectly behind the rear seats (especially since there is not much room for anything else) and the wiring wasn't too complicated. Some of the wiring (more specifically the speaker and the remote power wires) on the harness that came with the system was a little shorter than I would have liked but wasn't a big deal soldering or crimping on some additional leads. The system gave some great bass response and really improved the sound in my ride. I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend it to others.
Pros: Very compact and fits easily in small spaces. Connectivity was fairly simple. Bass response is very good and really added to the sound in my vehicle.
Cons: Although installation wasn't as bad as I had thought it would be, the installation manual was a bit lacking and took a little time to figure out (really only 2 pages of pictures with little written instruction). I ended up going to the Crutchfield site to get additional info on basic power amp / sub installation to get a good feel of what I needed to do.

Crutchfield customer from Texas on 8/26/2015
Purchased this because of all the good reviews. Wired it all up and 1st the turn on setting using signal from speaker didn't rrally work as the amp would shut off with higher volume levels. 2nd the speaker vibrates as if something is loose inside.
Pros: Looks good in trunk.
Cons: Expensive and did not work properly.

Kicker hs118 ROCKS!
HondaCivic4dr5speedKarl from Bel air maryland on 6/16/2015
With a background in pro-audio, bit of an audiophile. As I age(not even 30 yet by the way), the aftermarket, 300lb, 300Db 3k watt, 30k$ sound systems become less of a nesessity. Only remaining priorities include solid bass, clean sound, and low maintenance. Didn't expect much from a lower priced kicker product found at your local electronics store, with which I have dealt with quite often, being the village-stereo installler that I am. Don't get me wrong! Biased opinion does not reflect Kicker's higher-end products... ...Installed/tuned and ready to criticize in less than 20min! Bose-like sound quality, and mind-blowingly compact design! The longer I own this unit, the more I appreciate what Kicker has done, hence the review. Crutchfield & Kicker, You Rock!
Pros: Quality sound, compact design, brilliant "auto/input sensing remote signal", ease of installment.
Cons: Price.

Fills out the sound
Blissy from Texas on 6/14/2015
I bought this sub to help fill out the sound in my 2001 Silverado Extended-Cab. I'm not someone who wants to shake the ground, but when I turn up the music, I want to be able to appreciate the beat without distorting my 3-way speakers' output. This fills that function perfectly! I installed the unit behind the rear-bench, on the cab's back-wall, on the driver's side. I removed an appropriate section of insulation and mounted the box directly to the steel, with felt pads to keep the rattle down. I didn't use the supplied straps, although there are grooves in the enclosure that looks like will support their use just fine. The unit fits perfectly in that location. It was easy to mount and run the wiring for the power under the driver's side trim, and the speaker wires under the carpet, under the center console, and then up to the head unit. Nowhere in the catalog did it describe that you'd have to either solder RCA plugs, or buy some as accessories. Crutchfield should have this included in their manuals, so that their tech people can advise the customer that they'll need the optional accessory if they're going to utilize the RCA plugs on the back of their head-unit. The "Bass Boost" remote control rheostat is pretty cool. It goes up to 11! However, the one that came with mine doesn't work. I had to wiggle the included cord that came with it, and it would only work occasionally. No biggie-it was easy enough to set up on the enclosure, and I won't touch it again.
Pros: Easy to fit, and install. Nice added "thump." Sturdy, and attractive.
Cons: No included RCA plugs. Won't shake the Earth, if that's what you're looking for.

Really Awesome Powered Sub!
Steve-F from Tennessee on 4/22/2015
Just amazing how much better my audio system sounds with this powered sub. I'm using this with a Pioneer FH-X820BS head unit and Kicker 40CSS654 6 & 1/2 inch speakers in my 2008 Chevy Colorado Crew Cab (Front & Back). Probably the best sounding system I've ever had. I had to remove the crew cab bench seat to secure the Velcro straps to the floor, but well worth the trouble (It was only 4 bolts). Wiring was pretty easy too, no problems.
Pros: Awesome bass!
Cons: None!

Not very pleased
BrunoB from Atlanta, GA on 4/13/2015
I was pretty disappointed to find that they made the switched power line the length of the ground line rather than the length of the speaker lines. Because of this I just went with "DC offset" switching. (It watches for AC on the speaker inputs.) Ultimately I feel like I have to have the head unit volume up way too high to hear or feel any output from this unit. I soldered the input lines to the rear speaker lines. I have tried both 0º and 180º phases. The bass in the factory system is "just below fair". This unit brings it only to "fair" and only when the volume is at 75%+. I've elected not to install the gain remote because I can't imagine ever using anything but maximum gain.
Pros: Small enough to fit under the driver seat in many cars. (Required that I remove the seat to get it there.)
Cons: The switched power line is only 24 inches long. WHY?

I bought this sub for my 2011 4Runner. It fits under the passenger seat with ease. The all in one wiring harness made it super easyandfast to install. Like others have saidit won't rattle your mirrors off but you know it's there. I ended up using Velcro instead of the mounting straps.
Pros: Fast, easy install. Great sounds from a small package
Cons: Mounting straps are sub par

I am no audiophile, Heck, I can barely spell it. This unit works great and sounds incredible. It totally filled out the cab with great bass. The stero sounds 10,000 times better and I have a pretty decent head unti and speakers. Pretty simple to install, thanks to the "second to none" tech service guys. I installed in a 2014 Toyota Tacoma regular cab 4X4. Fit under the seat fine. Like most said, it is not going to shatter windows. But for what I wanted, it was absolutly PERFECT. I had to use the KISL adapter. Make sure you call Crutchfield before you buy so you have all of the parts you need. Fortunatly I did. I only run it up half way. Remote Bass control works like a dream.
Pros: Easy to isntall and set up. Sounds awesome. Firs under seat. Nice bass remote.
Cons: Did not come with a long enough cable to the "DC" turn on feature to hook to the head unit.

Compact, Packs a Punch!
MyRex from Louisiana on 12/15/2014
I have a 2014 WRX hatch. After replacing the head unit with a decent after market upgrade I realized that I needed something a little more. I travel for business and practically live out of my car so space is a premium. Initially I purchased an amp and a JL Audio 6 inch micro-sub in a ported enclosure. As small as it was I still didn't want to give up the space in my hatch. I purchased the Kicker Hideaway with reservations as anyone who knows JL Audio knows that as small as there micro-sub is it really puts out some amazing base and I was afraid that I'd be disappointed. I am happy to say that this little amplified subwoofer far exceeded my expectations. It provides clean, solid bass, was easy to install and fit nicely under my front passenger seat. Out of sight, out of mind! I've had people in my car and many have asked what I was running as my sub and amp and although I'm not looking to rattle my car apart when playing certain tracks it actually vibrates my rearview mirror. I would definitely recommend this product to a friend and ordering through Crutchfield was easy and shipping was fast!
Pros: Easy installation, small compact size and great bass reproduction!
Cons: None as of yet!

You're not going to rattle your neighbor's windows, but it sure does make my Jeep Liberty sound better than the Bose system in my G37. I absolutely love this and would highly recommend it.
Pros: Lots of hard hitting bass & adjustable control knob at your fingertips.

Just installed this in my 2001 GMC Sierra (standard cab), fit perfectly behind the drivers seat mounted to the wall. I still have some tweeking to do with the controls and settings on my head unit but allready i am impressed with how much it improved my system. I would definatly recomend this unit for anyone who needs that extra kick but have little to no space to use a traditional sub/amp set up. Perfect for trucks Kenwood KDC352U Head unit Kenwood KAC-M1804 4 channel amp Polk Audio Dxi571 coaxal speakers (rear) Polk Audio Dxi6501 components (doors) Kicker Hideaway powered sub
Pros: Easy to install, small enough to fit in small spaces but still puts out lots of sound and comes with everything you need to install (if wanting to use low level input you will need to get the Kicker KISL rca/speaker level adapter)
Cons: None to speak of....the speaker level input wires and amp turn on wire could be a little longer but not really a big issue

Nice little sub
Doug from San Antonio, TX on 9/28/2014
I was having trouble deciding between this little sub or using an amp with a sub box. I have an F-150 and did not want to lose the utility of the backseat by putting a big sub box on the floor under the seat. This sub has big sound dispute it's size. It has completely changed my listening experience. I replaced the stock stereo with a kenwood head unit, but left in the stock speakers. While this increased the volume, I was still missing the full sound I was looking for. Let's be honest, this is an 8" sub. If you want a sub that's going to push a ton of air and make you feel like you are at a live rock concert, this is likely not the sub for you. However, if you're after more of the Bose quality bass, which you can hear and feel, then you should consider this sub. It won't pound the back of your seat, but it will fill in the holes for most stock speakers. My head unit has crossover capability... This sub allowed me to limit the bass frequencies going to the stock speakers. My system went from fairly flat (lots of mids) to a full sound with some punch. I installed the sub myself. I used low level RCA connectors. I did not use the volume knob included with the unit because I can control the volume with my head unit. If your going to install using line/speaker level connections, the volume knob is a must. I've only had the sub in for a couple of days, but I'm very satisfied with the bass produced by this Kicker product.
Pros: Compact, solid, clean bass
Cons: Like other reviews, you will need 18 gauge wire for the 12V power. You will likely need The RCA adapter and RCA cables that are not included.

Love this sub
Andrea from Amherst, NY on 8/21/2014
Love the sound that comes out of this sub. My factory speakers were sounding really flat so I replaced them with Kicker 40CS54s and this powered sub. Tuned it and it sounds amazing even when it isn't turned up very much and you have to tune it (I found a nice guide on this site that made it a lot less painful to do). Wiring it was relatively easy and I'm not super savy with electronic wiring. The wires are nice and long to make it to the trunk if needed. It fits beautifully under the front passanger seat of my Ford Escape. And the remote it great for the little tweek when you want a little more or a little less bass.
Pros: Easy to install All in one amp and sub Great sound for size Small enough to fit under seat Customer service is awesome - made sure I had exactly what I needed and walked me through wiring one part when I had problems
Cons: Tuning can be tricky if you don't really know what you are doing

Cody from Texas on 8/11/2014
I installed the kicker 11hs8 into my 2015 337 Peterbilt. This thing hits hard! I also installed a JVC KW-V20BT DVD receiver. The combination turned out great. My truck is what you would call a "single cab" and the sub EASILY fills the interior with low-end sound. The JVC head unit has a great equalizer so I can fine tune for amazing sound. Installating the sub was probably a 3 on a scale to 10 for difficulty. The remote power wire is fairly short, BUT, that was nothing that 10ft of 18 GA wire couldn't take care of. The KISL adapter (sold separately) was a little tricky at first, but after trying a few different combinations I got it. If installing one, where the speaker wires come out of the adapter there are 2 blue and 2 gray wires. The wires come out bundled in a square. Blue side by side, and gray side by side, pair the wires from opposing corners, blue w/ gray and blue with gray. I also used rca cables from the head unit to the sub. Much easier to run rca cables than 4 wires. All in all, a great great, product.

Just what I was looking for...
Kevin from Brooklyn, NY on 7/24/2014
I am a professional audio engineer who was looking for some added low end to my after-market system in my Nissan Rogue. One of my main concerns (besides sound) was the attention a sub might bring to thieves especially living in NYC. I also wasn't looking for a trunk rattling, windows shaking sound but a nice clean and beefy low end. This little sub was exactly what I was looking for! I like that It is powered so there is no need for an additional amp and it fits discreetly under my driver's side seat. It is the perfect compliment to my existing Sony deck and Kicker speakers. I am loving the depth that it brings to the various genres of music I listen to. You'll get some nice response in the 40 to 70 Hz range for the 808's and bottom end of hip hop/electronic music and added punch and thickness in the 80-125 Hz range for the driving kick and bass lines of rock or whatever you're into. I listened to Ice T's "High Roller" the other day forgetting how dope that track is and how great it sounds! Followed that up with Tool's "Aenima" and fell in love all over again with their ridiculously tight rhythm section! This little sub has greatly enhanced the musical listening experience in my vehicle! I've only had to push the sub at about 50% to get more than enough bass. If you're looking for a trunk rattler, this might not be what you're looking for. But, if you're looking for more depth and punch in your system, the Kicker 11HS8 will deliver. Very happy so far!
Pros: Packs a whallup in a small box! Self powered - No external amp necessary. Small and discreet - easily hides away undetected. Seems to be pretty well-built. Still early to tell but hopefully will be durable for years to come.
Cons: Nothing that I have seen so far...

I would have gave this sub a four or a five if I didnt have to spend so much time trying to get good sound out of it.I tried to set it up with rca connections. But it didnt work.I could get as much bass out of my door speakers as the sub .So after a couple of calls to tech.I just wired it up to the rear speaker line level. Then the sub came to life.Kicker shouldnt even say that the sub works with the low line setup. So in conclusion.Just wire it up to speaker level.
Pros: Sounds good for it size.
Cons: No real RCA inputs

Kicker 11HS8 Review
MLO from Warrenton, VA on 7/6/2014
I tried to put this in a small SUV that had a JBL Premium Sound System (albeit 10 years old) and found that it did little, if anything, to augment the sound. I spent a total of 4 calls to tech support during the installation and configuration to make sure that I was not overlooking a setting or configuration setting that would have accounted for the lackluster performance without success. I ended up returning the unit as it made no appreciable change to the sound.
Pros: Compact footprint/fit under the passenger front seat and was easily installed and concealed.
Cons: Relatively meek performance.

A lttle Kicker in a Ram quad cab
KenPEN from NEK on 6/19/2014
Bought this product for stock head, may add speakers, new head later....Install is straightforward...fits well under middle of rear seat, facing up....I left few feet of wire so I can change positions, also if you open rear door and set speaker in floor facing out works when truck is parked. Install is straightforward...wire to battery, 4 speaker wires, 1/8" plug in wire for remote gain control knob, this control fit well into housing for 4 wheel drive switch, (mine is 2 wheel drive) sounds great, won't rattle doors, but fills closed cab well and improves existing speakers so I don't know If I need new speakers...would give a 5..should be 4.5, the remote power switch wire (16GA?) is only about 2 feet long...(other wires are good length)...was disappointed that I had to drive into town next day for wire to make to dash...this wire should be as long as others....
Pros: Sounds great, gain knob is great feature, adds just enough bass for 50 something guy....
Cons: None Really on sound....make remote power switch wire longer....

All you need to add the Bass.
Robot1167 from College Park MD on 5/29/2014
I have a 2005 Jeep Wrangler. I had replaced my stock radio with an older JVC and my Speakers with Kicker and needed some Bass. The 8' stock sub had died. Not the speaker but the electronic therein. So looking for a replacement that would give me the Bass I needed without eating up the limited space brought me to this sub/amp combo. It fits under the back folding seat with enough space to add a second one if I wanted in the future. It's easily removable for when your in sketchy places. I am 100% satisfied with the performance. It's not going to boom hard enough to vibrated the cars around you but more then enough to Bring the pounding bass inside the jeep. (Yes, Your Jeep will be vibrating with each Pounding Bass note.) Even with a rag top and windows down it's loud enough to drown out all road noise four fold. Example: a fire truck went by me and I could barely hear it over the volume my system puts out now. The additional remote volume is installed when I can reach it. Different bands will require volume adjustment to find that sweet spot and it's easy to adjust. This Sub Combo it loud, booming, compact and invisible. Perfect for your jeep Wrangler. 100% recommend it!
Pros: Loud, booming, compact and invisible when place under a seat. The notes still cut through.
Cons: The con is, I don't need another one, but I wanna buy one anyway! Just because it's friggin' awesome!

Pros: Unit is compact and easy to mount. Easy to install with the provided wiring. Largest RMS rating on the self powered units at the time i purchased it. It will accept the high and low level inputs.
Cons: wish it had RCA's having to splice the harness is a pain, but at least it will accept the high and low level inputs.

Pros: Amazing sound, great price.

Awesome subwoofer!
R from San Antonio, TX on 4/11/2014
If you read through the over 40 reviews on here, plus the 40 or so on another website, you'll get pretty much the exact same review I'm writing. If you are looking for something to very nicely supplement your stock stereo, this is exactly the product you are looking for. If you think you are going to replicate the sound of a 12 or something w/ a 1000+ watt amp hooked up in your trunk, you will be disappointed. I've had the two 12's with an 1800 watt amp before, but that is not what I needed in my current vehicle; I just wanted something to supplement the stock speakers and after reading all the reviews I decided on this. What an awesome product! First, it's made by Kicker, which of course is a top notch brand when it comes to subwoofers/amplifiers. I have a 2013 Buick LaCrosse and I had it mounted underneath my passenger seat very nicely. This little machine fills my car with very nice bass notes...like others have said, and I will reiterate, this isn't going to hit the 20-40hz frequencies very effectively; for one, it's only an 8" subwoofer which aren't going to do that no matter what enclosure/amp combo you use, and two the enclosure is small. But for the 60hz and up bass notes, this thing is perfect. It sounds very crisp and clean. Since I have a newer vehicle I had it professionally installed so I would have a warranty on the installation, but the install guy said it was pretty simple and straight forward.
Pros: The remote bass knob is very convenient and really helps w/ fine tuning the system to your liking. This product is the perfect addition to supplement any stock system...gives you those extra bass notes that a stock system normally just does not produce. This little thing will definitely wow you.
Cons: My only knock on the system isn't really a flaw with the product; more a suggestion to Kicker. I would recommend the bass boost control the boost at around 60 hz vs. at 40hz. With this only being an 8" sub, it won't produce the 40hz effectively anyway so I think the bass boost would have a better effect if it was at the 60hz level.

Rockin In Texas
GlennP. from Houston, TX on 3/31/2014
I installed this sub-woofer in my 2001 Super Duty extended cab, with a JVC 50 watt head unit and JVC speakers in the doors backed by boom mats. I am impressed with the improvement in sound quality of my system with the addition of the sub-wwofer, but this thing was a pain to wire up.
Pros: I am very happy with the improvement to the overall sound of my system. Adding the sub-woofer really freed up the amp in the head unit to drive the 4 door speakers to new volume levels.
Cons: When it comes time to wire this into your system, you better have a sense of humor, a lot of butt connectors, and extra wire in a variety of gauges. The only wire in the set that was long enough to reach it's destination was the power wire that goes to the battery. The five wires that go to the head unit and the ground wire were all way too short and had to be spliced to an additional lengths of wire in order to reach their point of termination. Will not fit under any of the front seats of F-250

Does the job
Dean D from Houston, TX on 3/27/2014
Fits great under the seat. All the sound with none of the space.
Pros: Fits easily under the seat of my 911. All the sound I need.
Cons: Was disappointed at first. Then found the setting on the radio that needed adjustment and wow. No cons after that.

Kicker HS8
19camrs79 from Lucasville, Oh on 2/20/2014
Very surprised at the sound coming out of this unit. Has good "punch", sound is crisp, not boomy, compliments the rest of the system. easy to wire into aftermarket head unit. still playing with settings for my taste, has good range
Pros: clean sounding; easy to wire; out of sight, but not out of sound.
Cons: none

Very Nice Addition
Ramowner from North Carolina on 1/8/2014
I had the Sound Ordanance compact powered subwoofer and was not really happy with the overall sound. No matter how I adjusted the sub or my HU, it just always seemed "boomy" and strained. I decided to try the Kicker. Man, what difference. The amp power is nearly the same, but the Kicker sound is much richer, much more natural sounding than the Sound Ordanance sub. Neither one is going to blow the windows out, but that is alright. I wanted a nice, natural bass sound to suppliment my Polk door speakers and the Kicker does just that. The install was easy, except for the low-level input adapter you have to buy. Crutchfield was out of them, but an identical type made by Rockford Fosgate works just fine.
Pros: Compact size, good power, natural sounding, not boomy or strained.
Cons: Have to buy separate adapter to run low-level (RCA) inputs to Kicker.

Perfect Solution
JimM from San Jose CA on 12/27/2013
This sub is perfect for adding to a stock stereo. I tried some of the off-brands and they could not keep up with the stock system in my 2005 Dodge Ram Diesel, even with the gains turned all the way up. The Kicker is the only quality product in this category. It won't shake the neighborhood, but it will rattle your rearview mirror! It's small enough to hide anywhere and super easy to install! Great bass on every type of music - I had to turn the gains and bass boost DOWN it was actually too much bass! I will definitely try more Kicker products in the future! I costs more because it's worth more - not just a piece of junk like the others!
Pros: Easy to install Fits almost anywhere Great Sound Quality Twice as good as any of the other slim woofers!
Cons: Twice the cost of other slim woofers

Just what I needed
HogieSTL from Ofallon Mo. on 12/18/2013
I Love Bass ,However , In my 2013 Rogue I didnt want to sacrifice cargo room for a sub ... hence...the kicker powered subwoofer . At first i thought i would be getting something like the old underseat subaru subs ...not impressive ...However, when i wired this thing up I was blown away with the sound. If your looking for low rider boom boom bass ....not for you ....If you are looking for clean added bass to your stock system ...this makes LED Zepplin dazed and confused sound superb! Best powered sub for the size by far.
Pros: Easy to install , fits under seat , remote works well
Cons: wish they would supply different sized knobs for the remote

Kicker 11HS8
Crutchfield customer from Greenville, SC on 12/8/2013
It works as it should. All I wanted was a little extra bass in my system and this gave me just that. I don't think it puts out a lot of bass but with its size, easy installation and good construction it works great. I have had an 8in bazooka tube in another car and that put out more bass than this. I have it installed in the cabin and I wouldn't recommend installing it in a trunk. After getting the settings right I am pleased with how it sounds. My only complaint would be the remote control. It functions as it should and is well built but for a hideaway sub it is a little flashy. I have it mounted on my center console hidden as much as possible with it still being accessible. However its shape makes it stick out a little, I wanted to keep as stock a look as possible. I know that sounds a little silly but it is my only complaint and it isn't even that big of an issue. So if you are looking to buy this to add a little bass but want to keep your space and look then I recommend this. If you want something that is powerful and can be cranked up loud then I wouldn't recommend it.
Pros: Small, well built, easy to install
Cons: Remote shape is too flashy for a hideaway sub. If keeping a stock look is extremely important then the remote shape might not be what you want.

Good sub, poor connections.
Cory from Rittman, ohio on 11/25/2013
Great sub for the first year and a half, then one day while listening to my music via iPhone, it just stopped working. Checked every connection and wire and couldn't figure out what happened. I took the back cover off, and the speaker wire on/in the actual speaker broke. I've never beat on this thing to it's full potential for sure. And for the price I was expecting a little more life. I've tried fixing it myself, but any connections I can make can't keep up with the reverberation. Overall, I was happy until it's early death. This may possibly be my first and last kicker product purchased.
Pros:

Okay...
AJ from Winston Salem, NC on 11/8/2013
I purchased the kicker hideaway for my 2013 F150 supercrew. I am running the stock Microsoft Sync radio with JBL 6x8's front and rear, running off a 4 channel 300 watt alpine amp but the system still lacked bass. I thought the Hideaway would be a great solution and it also had the added benefit of fitting under the passenger front seat and being totally concealed. However, the bass response is very average and it bottoms out very easily. I returned the unit and purchased the JL Audio CP108LG-W3v3. What an AMAZING difference!!! The JL sounds absolutely amazing compared to the Hideaway. At first I was trying to avoid having the ported box because I had to put it under the rear seat and that potentially takes up more storage room. But it is actually very concealed and you can always un hook it with the quick disconnects in a snap. The sound that is produced with a monoblock 300watt 4ohm Alpine amp is night and day better then the Hideaway. So, if your in the market for a sub to produce some added bass for your truck I would pass on the Hideaway and go with the JL Audio CP108LG-W3v3. I wish I had listened to my installer and did that from the get go.
Pros: size, concealed, build quality
Cons: rather weak bass response, cost,

Great product
Crutchfield customer from Georgia on 10/30/2013
Ok. I was indecisive when buying it. I didn't think it would do much bass but since it was compact I was gonna try it for my f150. This thing is amazing. Way better than I expected.
Pros: Small. Produses great bass.
Cons: A little pricy

Best of what it is
TBirge from Centerton, ar on 10/28/2013
This sub, amp combo has to be the best of what it it. It gives comfortable bass-not "shake the paint off your truck" bass. Its easy to stow under a seat. Its also easy to install. Don't buy this with the intent of maxing out all its features and seeing if it will hold up. Its not made for that. Its not for competition either, its for your average guy that wants extra bass and has limited room.
Pros: Takes up little space, easy to install, gives just the right amount of bass
Cons: none really.

Great powered sub for a small truck
Tacoma Bass from Chapel Hill, NC on 10/24/2013
Great speaker box! You can't really fit anything extra into a small Toyota Tacoma with the standard cab. I looked for quite awhile and there's not much out there that will fit. I was able to slip the Kicker Hideaway under my drivers bench seat and it sounds great! Its not the heart-vibrating bass you'd get from a larger speaker, but the bass is heavy, punchy, and adds a whole new sound dimension to my two other combo speakers. It was easy to install as well as long as you remember to buy the RCA connector/adapter kit and know that you will have to connect the blue wire coming from the subwoofer's harness to the blue and/or blue/white power wires from the head unit's wiring harness. Once you've done that its great!
Pros: Tight sound, small profile, fits in a small truck, good bass enhancement, super easy installation.
Cons: Short leads for remote-power on, requires some clearance (totally normal)

very satisfied
Steve from Huntsville, AL on 10/11/2013
I am very happy with this unit. I added it to my 2002 Silverado 1500HD to supplement the weak low end of my system (consisting of a Kenwood KDC-BT755HD head unit and 4 Kenwood KFC-1664S 6 1/4 inch speakers). The HS8 rounded out the system quite nicely. Sounds clean and powerful. Installation was straight forward.
Pros: Great sound. Compact package. Adjustable crossover frequency (I set mine to 120Hz).
Cons: Only one minor complaint: except for the power leads, the rest of the leads were too short to reach my head unit from the back seat mounting location. The remote on/off wire was the shortest and would require extension in any installation where you want to use that feature (that is the preferred hookup to automatically turn off the amp when ignition is off).

Better then I expected
JeffD. from Nj on 7/9/2013
The sound is far beyond what I was expecting! This unit is perfect for rounding off the sound that has been missing from your car without it being annoying. Im not interested in showing off how loud my system can go, i only want great sound for me and the people in my car. It fit perfectly under the driver seat in my 2013 Subaru wrx. Only thing that I really don't like about this unit is that there is no RCA connection.
Pros: Small compact and produces great bass.
Cons: No RCA connection.

I love it
Nick G from Denver, CO on 6/1/2013
I have a 2007 f150, and the sound was decent but after replacing the head unit, speakers and adding this subwoofer it sounds epic! I went to a different retailer to see how much they would hook me up with some bass in my truck for, the guy basically lied to me and said I need all custom boxes, etc and it would be 1100 dollars... lol... So instead I just bought this.. and its all the bass I need plus some. It wont rattle the whole block but its definitely loud enough for many cars to hear you at stoplights (if thats your thing... i turn mine down when im at a stop so no1 else has to listen to my super bass) It was cheap, it is built like a rock, it sounds amazing, easy to install, i love the little remote bass control knob too, makes it really easy to adjust your bass on the fly. If you want your sound in your car to sound much fuller with nice lows then get this, I love it so much, kicker is a great brand and so is alpine imo.
Pros: Cheap, Built Well, Easy Install, Good functions, sounds great, doesnt take up any room at all.
Cons: Isnt free. Doesnt cause earthquakes?

Solid little sub
Kevin from Grand Rapids, MI on 5/12/2013
This is a nice solid little sub that will fit just about anywhere. It is well built in a metal enclosure and comes with almost everything for a pain free installation. It fits nicely under the drivers seat (or passenger seat) in my Jeep and adds the badly needed low frequencies that are missing from the dash & roll bar speakers. My only minor issue with the sub is that the ground wire and remote power on wire are too short and I had to splice in another wire to reach my connection points. Other than that I'm really happy with it and how it performs. It is a little pricey, but well worth it when you consider how small it is.
Pros: Small, can fit almost anywhere; solidly built; thumps good for its size
Cons: Ground wire and remote power on wires are too short

Unbelievable!!!!
Justin from Indiana on 4/25/2013
Originally bought the sound ordnance, however, after getting an extremely loud popping noise when turning my car on or off I decided to give the kicker a try. This thing truly sounds amazing. The sound ordnance produced higher bass notes fairly well but could not hit low notes found in rap. All I can say is that the sound coming from this unit sounds much BIGGER than that of the sound ordnance.
Pros: Huge sound, deep bass, no turn on pop like the sound ordnance
Cons: Pricey, but worth it

Lasts for maybe a month
Evan from Portland, OR on 4/8/2013
This would get a five star review, it sounds amazing! I got this as a gift with the prepaid installation card. It fits perfectly under the rear seat of my'02 Avalanche. The installation people came to my house to install it; didn't have to leave the driveway! The sub worked great for about six months, then decided it wasn't going to power up anymore. Contacted the installer, they checked and verified it wasn't an installation issue, then contacted Crutchfield who had it swapped out right away. Went about two weeks, then it started making this funny rattling/crackle noise. Contacted Crutchfield again, and was told that we'd blown the sub! Crutchfield was good enough to swap it out for us anyway. The third sub lasted for about a month and it started the rattle/crackle again. Crutchfield swapped it again, and told us to turn all the volume knobs on the sub down and leave it low for two weeks before turning it up. We left it for three weeks at the low level, then put it back to how the installer had the knobs configured. A month later, we're getting the rattle/crackle again! Three days past warranty now, Crutchfield is good enough to swap it out (this will be #5), but it should last longer and not blow when listening at normal (able to comfortably converse over it) volumes.
Pros: Amazing sound, fits perfectly under a seat
Cons: Unreliable and apparently very easy to blow at normal volumes.

Excellent powered sub
Don from Boulder, CO on 3/25/2013
This little sub was perfect for my needs. I've had 2 JL 12"'s in the trunk before and just didn't feel like dealing with that this time around. Living in CO you need your trunk space for camping and skiing gear. I mounted this under the passenger seat of my car and it produces a ton of clean, tight bass. A friend has the Sound Ordnance sub that is similar to this Kicker. I was a bit hesitant to spend the extra $ at first but I wasn't all that impressed with the Sound Ordnance. The Kicker kills the Sound Ordnance in every aspect. The sound out of the Kicker is much louder and cleaner. I wasn't expecting this thing to put out as much bass as it does. Yes, it's not the same as two 12"s with 500 watts each but I wasn't expecting it to be. One thing that might help some people out: The way the instructions read is that the remote bass control overrides the gain on the box itself. To me, I read this that once the remote was plugged in the gain on the box didn't matter so Ieft the gain on the sub all the way down. Come to find out that you should turn the gain all the way up on the box and then use the remote. Originally I couldn't figure out why the sub was barely firing. Once I figured this out all was good.
Pros: Fit's anywhere, great sound, most of the wiring is included
Cons: Using RCA's means buying an adapter, the X-over on the sub can't be disabled

Simple to install and compact; yet not shy to produce deep bass
Peter K from Demarest, NJ on 3/8/2013
I had received this powered sub about two days ago and just installed it temporarily on my 2012 Mazda5 as I needed to free up the trunk space. Previously had installed 10" Kicker CVT driven by JL 250W mono amp. I was on the fence about getting the Sound Ordinance over the Kicker due to price difference but what made me go with Kicker instead was the reviews. Anyway, just installed it (wires everywhere since it's just temporary) to test the bass. I was surprised by the deep bass that it produces and compactness of the design; though slightly thicker than Sound Ordinance; Kicker probably gave it a slighter bigger enclosure to produce a better bass with the 8" sub. I have mounted underneath the driver's seat since the passenger's seat is already occupied by the Alpine MRF300 4 channel amp. I just ran the RCA from the Kicker to Alpine for line level inputs. It was very simple. Thing that I like about this setup is that now even with fade to front or rear, I get the same bass response from the sub; not like the setup I had before where the high-level inputs were tapped from the rear speakers. I am happy so far and the best part is now I freed up the trunk to carry ski boots, yeah!
Pros: Compact sound, quality, and best of all, it's a Kicker!
Cons: None
