Consistently solid sound

Kicker's 46CSC654 6-1/2" 2-way speaker serves up stellar sound using a polypropylene woofer for the lower frequencies and a PEI balanced dome tweeter for the highs. You'll get good results powering these speakers with a factory radio, but use an aftermarket car stereo or an outboard amp to enjoy classic Kicker quality with more detail and punch.

These speakers were installed in a 2005 Honda Accord LX Sedan. When pair with a Sony XAV-AX100 receiver and the 6x9 cs's in the rear, there is a big difference in sound quality. While at higher volumes it's noticeable that an amp is required to keep a clear sound, these still sound great at normal volumes. I didn't bother with the brackets supplied by crutchfield as they required drilling into the door.

Pros: Quick and easy install

Cons: None

Solid Speaker Upgrade

Brent from Eagle River, AK on 8/18/2019

2018 Ford Focus

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I got these to upgrade my front speakers in my 2018 Focus ST. I do not have the Sony system. The improvement in mid range and high range clarity is excellent. The stock level of mid range output was nice, but with the volume at max, and bluetooth input at max, it still felt a little dim. These have made everything clearer, and crisper. Having full volume almost feels like too much with some songs. I am going to put a set of these in the back speakers. I could not be happier with the performance compared to the stock speakers. I also wanted improved stereo performance without a lot of other weight, as I autocross. A great investment.

Pros: Sound is amazing. Cost is great.

Cons: Fitting them perfectly in place required a drill, but hey, they fit perfectly. Is that really a con? They definitely want more power than the stock stereo provides.

I purchased these speakers to replace factory ones in my sons 2002 Honda Accord Coupe, They were recommend to me by the Crutchfield technician and I couldn't be happier. They are a huge upgrade to what was in the car and at a resonable Price! They have great high and mid range with good bass performace from a 6.5" speaker. I gave them a 5 star, as they are great for my application and exceeded my expectations from such a small spearker.

Excellent Door Speakers

Crutchfield customer from Tacoma, WA on 8/6/2019

2001 Subaru Legacy

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I installed two pairs of these speakers in the front doors of my two cars (2004 Corolla & 2001 Legacy) and they are a night and day improvement above the old flimsy stock speakers. I am not a car audio expert so take this for what it is, but they do seem to be a little bass heavy, but overall a huge improvement in the sound. Complaints: The blade connectors on the wires that come with the speakers to hook into the speakers are EXTREMELY hard to hook onto the back of the speakers. It is a scary but delicate process of getting the connections onto the speakers and trying not to break the tabs off. Also the grills for the speakers do not have any instructions for how to install them (and they come with random 90 degree tab things), so I never did figure that out.

Pros: Huge improvement in sound over old stock/OEM speakers

Cons: Poor blade connectors on included speaker wire making difficult to connect. Bass bias sound.

Total lack of bass

Robert from Los Angeles, CA on 6/30/2019

1998 Toyota Camry LE

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Bass is nonexistent. Hard to believe how lacking in low end these are especially when compared to tiny Bluetooth speakers such as the Bose Soundlink Mini. I get that the design of their enclosure is what gives them the ability to drive the bass but shouldn't a 6.5 inch speaker be able to at least keep up? Apparently not in this case. I bought the 6x9s of this same Kicker line for my rear deck and those are the saving grace for my system. If not for the punchy bass those provide I probably would've returned these. Lesson for me is that you have to replace all four speakers and you need 6x9s or a sub to augment these weaklings.

Pros: Mids and highs are good

Cons: Anything below 200 Hz is missing

Subaru Forester 2011 Replacement for front (left and right) speakers. Head unit Pioneer AVH-2300NEX Fro this price I am very positively surprised. Between stock and Kicker is like day and night. Adele, Psytrance - very rich sound good bass response. Metallica, Behemoth - not as good as pop music but still very nice rich sound. My first time disassembling front door. 2-3h job. Speaker brackets and cables from Crutchfield fit perfectly. Custom work on door panel required - original round speaker plastic fittings needs to be cut off (so the door panel fits correctly) Wire cutters did the job in 15 minutes. Nothing special. Overall I am very happy and thinking about secodn pair to replace rear door speakers.

Pros: rich full sound nice bass response easy install

Cons: none

Product Research

Features

Polypropylene Woofer Cones: The Kicker CS-series speakers feature polypropylene woofer cones, resistant to moisture and the temperature extremes found in automotive applications.

Surrounds: The ribbed polyester foam surrounds allow extended cone excursion for additional bass output and higher SPL.

Balanced-Dome Tweeters: Each speaker uses a ½" PEI (polyetherimide) balanced-dome tweeter. A balanced dome tweeter has a dome placed inside a cone, with equal reproduction area given the cone and dome sections.

Mounting Applications: Kicker describes these speakers as 6½. With the extended mounting "ears" around the perimeter of the frame, they also fit many 6¾ locations. Because Kicker also makes a dedicated 6¾ in this series (item number 20646CC674) that is typically a better fit, we don't recommend the CSC65 for those applications.

Customer Q&A

Q
are these speakers as easy as take out old and plug in these , replace cover?
[ steven  Aug 17, 2019 ]

A
Yes, using the kit that comes with the speaker. Took the door panel off, snapped out the old speaker, attached the mounting kit provided by Crutchfield, then attached the new speaker and put the door panel back on. You will have to drill mounting holes for the kit to attach to the door, but I just used self tapping metal screws. Put them in a 2007 Honda Accord.

A
Yes! They are plug and play.
[ Javier  Aug 18, 2019 ]
A
Depends if you have the necessary space to put cover on... as far as plug in, Crutchfield provides vehicle specific wiring aslong as it is factory... you should be able to plug right in to your factory speaker wiring

You need to be way more specific on your application. They will definitely fit if you take one of these out and put one in if that's your question.

My head unit pits out 16 watts RMS. Will these speakers sound good without an amp?
[ Scott  Aug 17, 2019 ]

A
My head unit puts out 22 RMS and sound really, really good for the price. I would think you should be fine with 16 RMS.

I've got these paired with a Kenwood KMM-BT225U which has a built in amp. The head unit puts out 22 watts RMS, 50 peak. I would imagine they'd sound just fine, but probably wouldn't have a lot of punch. Sound quality should be good though, they're great speakers.

Q
How do you attach the speaker grills?

A
My truck comes with the grills/cover in the door panel so I didn't add the extra grills.

[ Martin  Aug 07, 2019 ]
A
We just left them off
[ FDG  Aug 07, 2019 ]
A
Well, depends on install, I didn't use them because the speakers are behind the door panel. Guess if you cut out the door panel you attach them with the clips that the speakers come with the speakers

I put them in a Hyundai Veloster behind the front seats. Stock everything else, stock sub. The car sounds 10x better than stock. Yes very loud

Q
Do they fit the the trunk speakers for a 2000 BMW 323i sedan?

Sorry i'm not sure if they do, I have a 2008 Chevy Colorado crew cab. I replaced the front speakers with 6 3/4" Kickers and they fit like a champ just had to drill new holes.Later I found out the rears also use 6 3/4" speakers but I bought these 6 1/2" Kickers originally and I needed the adapter but had to trim the tags on it to make that adapter fit. I know it didn't exactly answer your question but maybe it'll help some with the sizing if anything. Good luck

Thats what's great about this website. If you look up your specific vehicle, it will bring you to all the speaker sizes and locations of that vehicle.

Q
do these produce bass also in the rear doors of a 2007 dodge ram 1500 Quad cab with the 7 speaker system and navigation?
[ Ruben  Apr 01, 2019 ]
4 answers
A
They produce bass but it all depend on your system and what you are running... my factory pioneers hit harder then these but I also do not have a separate 4 way amp for my door speakers... they are decent and Kicker is a solid company... My advice is to Get the Specs of your factory speakers and go for double or triple the numbers in RMS, OHMs and Sensitivity etc...
[ Ninjamigs  Apr 04, 2019 ]
A
Depends on the type of bass you are looking for. In short, yes. These speakers do produce a very adequate amount of bass for just being door speakers. However, your not going to get the sound and feel of a subwoofer out of substantially smaller speakers. But with your EQ dialed in just right I believe you would pleasantly surprised what these speakers will do. As far as rear to front doors there normally shouldn't be a difference as far as all 4 door speakers should be putting out the same amount of EQ value. Hope this helps!

I have them in my front doors on my 19' ram classic, they produce some bass but it isn't like a subwoofer, however it is MUCH better than the stock ones.
[ Parnell  Apr 01, 2019 ]
A
I feel they do. They are really good speakers and have good quality sound. They will give some of the bass you want.
