About the Kicker 48CWRT84

Bob Bihlmayer

Big sound from a small sub

If you're looking for bass for a tight space, Kicker designed their CompRT subs with compact cars, pickup trucks, and ATVs in mind. The low-profile 48CWRT84 8" subwoofer performs just like a full-size sub, but without killing all your cargo space. This high-performance CompRT sub stands less than 3" tall, so your installation options are wide open. Kicker has redesigned the forced-air cooling system, so this sub will run cooler when you drive it hard (and you know you will).

Made to bring the boom

The 48CWRT84 comes equipped with a rigid injection-moulded polypropylene cone that won't flex and cause distortion while you're cranking the bass. Its rubber surround will last through years of heavy use, combining with a special-design back and top plate to give you more excursion (which equals more bass) than other skinny subs.

Made to fit many systems

This sub handles up to 300 watts RMS so make sure you've got a solid amp to power it. You can wire the dual voice coils for either 2- or 8-ohm total impedance, giving you more wiring options when setting up your system. This versatile sub sounds great in sealed or ported enclosures.

Features

Dual Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 4Ω voice coils, offering wiring flexibility. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 2Ω load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents an 8Ω load.

Shallow-Mount: Kicker's CompRT series is designed to minimize depth, giving you subwoofer options where standard enclosures don't fit.

All-Weather: Although not marine certified, Kicker describes the CompRT series as weatherproof.

Cooling: Kicker engineers developed a Forced Air Cooling system, using the motor structure to pull air across the voice coils, helping the sub run up to 20% cooler than the previous model.

Sealed Enclosures: Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music. Kicker recommends sealed enclosures from 0.2 ft³ to 1.0 ft³.

Vented Enclosures: Vented (or ported) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from a given amount of power. Kicker recommends the following ported enclosures:

  • Minimum Enclosure Volume: 0.8 ft³ with an 8" x 1½" x 20¾" slot port
  • Maximum Enclosure Volume: 1.2 ft³ with an 8" x 2" x 19⅛" slot port

Q
Would this sub fit in the door frame of my 2020 C8 z51 coup Chevy corvette ?
jon  Feb 23, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Jon. Thank you for your question. Unfortunately we have done no research on the 2020 and up Corvettes at the moment. I honestly could not tell you if any speaker could fit or not.

Q
Hello, would this sub be able to replace my stock oem sub in my 2023 F-150 tremor (B&O Unleashed 18 spkr) and fit in the factory enclosure? I do plan on adding an aftermarket amp to support the sub.
jesse  Jan 11, 2024
1 answer
A
This subwoofer is too large to fit the factory subwoofer location. Additionally, the factory subwoofer appears to be a 4-ohm impedance, whereas this is a dual 4-ohm voicecoil subwoofer, which means it is effectively a 2-ohm or 8-ohm subwoofer. Please reach out to our advisors for further assistance with this project. You may reach us via online chat or phone at 1-800-324-9695.

Q
Will this fit a 6.5 inch box?
chris  Feb 16, 2023

A
This will fit into a box with a 6-7/8" cutout diameter and 3-1/2" depth clearance for the speaker.

Q
HI, WOULD THIS SUBWOOFER CAN BE USED TO REPLACE THE STOCK SUBWOOFER ON MY JEEP WRANGLER JK?
abe the beast  Jan 22, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Abe, and thank you for your question. There were multiple years of the JK, 2 doors, and 4, and different audio systems. Its possible that Kicker sub can fit in the factory enclosure, but the factory amplifier might not have enough power to make the Kicker sub move. Please contact one of our advisors at 800-324-9695 with more vehicle information so we can see if this subwoofer can fit.

What is the volume displaced by the woofer in a box, top mounted?
bluevic  Jan 21, 2023

A
Greetings BlueVic, and thank you for your question. I had to reach out to Stillwater Designs (Kicker) for this. the 48CWRT84 displacement is .0176.

Q
Will the sub fit in a 2022 Kia gt forte line ?
sebastian  Sep 21, 2022
1 answer
A
Sadly no 8" subwoofers that we carry are a direct fit Sebastian, this Kicker CompRT included. Because of the pattern of your factory subwoofer bolt's protruding from your rear deck shelf. If you are ok considerably cutting/modifying your rear deck (cutting off at least one or two of those bolts) you may be able to get this to fit. What we recommend is making a plastic bracket to mount a 6.5" dual voice coil sub in the factory location. You can use this 12x12 ABS sheet in the first link below, and mount the Kicker 48CWRT672 in the second link below. This is smaller than the 8" Kicker but it is an easier fit, and leaps and bounds better than your factory subwoofer. This option would be a much easier install and a great improvement on sound too! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_120ABS316/Metra-ABS316.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_20648CT672/Kicker-48CWRT672.html

Q
Hi, would this subwoofer can be used to replace the stock subwoofer on my Tacoma 2021 with JBL system?
ames  Sep 07, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings Ames, and thank you for your question. Technically, the Kicker subwoofer will fit into the factory subwoofer enclosure, but the factory JBL amplifier will not have enough power to run it. Not enough power to this sub will not only result in very little sound, but damage to the subwoofer. If you did replace it, you would need an amplifier that has 300 watts at 2ohms.

Q
Hi, would this subwoofer can be use to replace the stock subwoofer on my Tacoma 2021 with JBL system? Thanks.
ames  Sep 07, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings Ames, and thank you for your question. Technically it will fit the factory enclosure, but the factory amplifier is not going to have enough power to run an aftermarket sub. So unless you are adding an aftermarket amp rated for the same power as the subwoofer, its not recommended to replace the factory sub.

Q
I noticed there is not an "ideal sealed box volume" in the specs, but a range of .2-1.0 cubic ft in the "Features" section? That seems like quite a wide range in air volume. I alsk because I'm looking for something to complement the Fender sub in my 2021 Nissan Titan CC and am trying to have it placed behind the rear seat. Thank you.
aron  Oct 15, 2021

A
I purchased this sub to replace the oem in my Tacoma that sits behind the rear seat and the improvement in bass is noticeable. I'm not sure about the specs for my oem sub enclosure though. If you have an oem sub box I'm sure it's not gonna be much bigger or smaller than the one in my Tacoma.

I have a 2002 Chevy suburban w a 8" factory sub in back. This will fit but will it require an amplifier to work? If so, what size amp is needed?

No the factory amp well wrk just fine no need to change it

I just installed this same amp in my Scion XB, and I'm running a 1 channel 500 watt amp. The minimum is 300 watt, but like to adjust my frequencies depending on my genre of music for the power so I like a little more ump with my bump.
reginald  Mar 31, 2021

I would measure what the ohms are on the factory sub. I purchased the 2 ohm DVC's and the 4 ohm DVC's. The 2 ohm DVC's measured at 1 ohm per coil and the 4 ohm DVC's measured at 2 ohms. I currently returned the 2 ohm model and swapped them for the 4 ohm model. I have one installed in the factory box until my dual box comes. I am pushing with a Alpine 600 watt rms Amp. I tried running mine off the factory Amp and it wasn't enough power.
marc d  Mar 31, 2021
A
It should fit but would suggest a 300 watt amp
