Overbuilt? More like built just right

Kicker's 40CWR102 10” subwoofer comes equipped with a tough, polypropylene cone that stays rigid during intense play sessions so you hear accurate bass. A custom-designed back and top plate give the woofer plenty of room to travel, while the durable rubber surround helps to control cone movement during a heavy workout. This sub uses extensive venting in its heavy steel basket to shrug off heat, so you can count on reliable performance.

Say hello to system flexibility

This Kicker CompR will handle up to 400 watts RMS so make sure you have an amplifier that'll do it justice. Its dual 2-ohm voice coils give you more wiring options when setting up your system, and this versatile sub works well in sealed or ported enclosures.

Product Research

Features

Dual 2-ohm Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 2-ohm voice coils, offering wiring flexibility. A switch on the speaker terminal allows you to easily change from parallel (the woofer presents a 1-ohm load) to series (the woofer presents a 4-ohm load) wiring for the voice coils.

UniPlate Construction: The woofer features a one-piece UniPlate construction with a vented, extended pole piece and backplate. This unique design provides the following benefits:

  • Optimizes heat transfer efficiency for cooler operation
  • Eliminates erratic magnetic flux in the voice coil gap
  • Releases pressure under the suspension for uniform cone movement
  • Prevents the voice coil from bottoming out, and the resulting damage

Tinsel Leads: CompR subwoofers use Spiralead tinsel-lead technology; the tinsel lead wires are woven into the spider to relieve mechanical stress.

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Enclosure Applications: Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music. Kicker recommends sealed enclosures in the following range:

  • Minimum Enclosure Volume: 0.8 ft³
  • Maximum Enclosure Volume: 3.0 ft³

Vented Box: Vented (or ported) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. Kicker recommends ported enclosures in the following range:

  • Minimum Enclosure Volume: 1.25 ft³ with a 10.5" x 2" x 20" slot port
  • Maximum Enclosure Volume: 1.75 ft³ with a 10.5" x 2.5" x 20" slot port

Customer Q&A

Q
I have a Kenwood kac8103d after a steady stream of bass it seems to cut off is this not a good pair for this sub?
[ Dan  May 08, 2016 ]

A
The Kenwood KAC-8103D would work fine to drive the Kicker 40CWR102 sub as long as you wire the subwoofer's dual voice coils together in series wiring to show the amp a 4-ohm load. Here's a diagram on our website that illustrates how you'd want to wire your sub & amp together: http://images.crutchfieldonline.com/ca/learningcenter/car/subwoofer_wiring/1DVC_2-ohm_mono.jpg I hope that helps.

Q
If you only have a mono amp and wiring one comp r do I have to have the switch to 1 ohm or 8ohm?
[ Gerald  Mar 29, 2015 ]

A
It depends. If your amp is one-ohm stable (check the instructions or website) and the RMS is close to that of the sub, you're good on the 1 ohm selection. If the amp is only stable at a minimum of two ohms, you may want to get a 4 ohm DVC version of this same sub, which will have a switch for 2 or 8 ohms. Basically, you want the lowest ohm value you can have (a 600W RMS amp at 1 ohm is only putting out 300W at 2 ohms), as long as you aren't putting too many watts to your sub or making a 2 ohm stable amp run below that. Short answer: if your amp is safe at 1 ohm and the RMS values of the sub and amp are close, switch it to 1 ohm and bump away.

If it's a 2 ohm sub you would have to put it in 4 ohm because 1 ohm would over power the sub. If you have a 4 ohm sub you could switch it to 2 ohm and run perfect.

Hi Jeremy I have the kicker compr 10 it's mounting depth is around 4 to 5-1/2 inches I put my 10's in a shallow custom box for the back of a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 the box is under the back seat These kicker compr subs are the only ones that I found to be shallow enough to fit in this shallow box if your looking at 12" subs they're a little bit deeper but I love the sound of my 2 10" kickers

Q
I really want to order a pair of these speakers but I am unsure on an amp. Which Kicker amp would power these correctly?....I'm soooo tired of going to local Best Buys and audio shops that offer no help. I currently have a 2002 silverado four door with a down fire box under the rear seat and a Kenwood cd unit. Help please!

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.
