Say hello to system flexibility

This Kicker CompR will handle up to 300 watts RMS so make sure you have an amplifier that'll do it justice. Its dual 4-ohm voice coils give you more wiring options when setting up your system, and this versatile sub works well in sealed or ported enclosures.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 225 and 450 watts RMS at 2 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

Kicker CompR 43CWR84

I custom built a rock solid air tight 3/4" mdf (0.518 cubic foot) enclosure for this sub upon its arrival. No stuffing as of yet. I have it hooked up to an amp pushing approx. 150-200 watts. So far the sound is nice and quite deep for an eight. Its very close to my person in a single cab disguised as a carpeted center console, so I hear its abilities well. I wouldnt push its' limits expecting it to vibrate mirrors or project bass far beyond the vehicles general vicinity but it can fit in a small space and fill in a lot of low end 5's,6's & 6x9's etc wont be able to reproduce. And as always Crutchfields staff is top shelf! Thx

Pros: Concealable Not over bearing Not too low of Hz Able to get good sound without needing a lot of power.

Cons: For price would like it to be able to handle a little more wattage. In comparison the Rockford p2 8's are built much heavier duty and would take more volume.

Great sound from the small speaker. You can push the bass to feel it, or keep it safe and sane to hear all the bass notes without vibrating the windows. Did my own custom install job - not that this is the "right" way, but Just dropped it into the old opening with some gasket sealer around the rim, and wired it up. The gasket sealer "seals" it, and the speaker is so heavy, it will never slide around unless you off-road.

Pros: Easy to series it to 8ohms, great tight bass. Well built basket. I like the connectors, no need for crimping or soldering.

Cons: Maybe.

Strong tight bass!

AWESOME! What else can I say. Way more sound and bass than expected of a speaker this size. You'd swear it was a 10 or larger. Adapted to fit the factory sub opening in a 2009 Crown Victoria P71 with a pair of Roadkill fast rings. I just wanted to add some better sound and bass to my work vehicle and ended up with something the neighbors could hear. Decided to pull the rear interior back out and add some sound deadening. Powered buy the Kicker 43CXA300.1 AMP. Built a custom box at about 0.88 ft3 internal volume with 3/4 inch MDF. Added the Kicker remote so I could adjust the bass to fit my mood. Couldn't ask for more.

Pros: Extremely strong bass with the proper setup! Legendary Kicker reliability!

Cons: None for me.

Works well and is an excellent match for the Sound Ordnance amp recommended by the Crutchfield staff. Gives you that panty dropping sound you always wanted as a young driver in your 67 VW beetle back in the day.

Pros: Stylish, well built, and sounds like a sub should.

Cons: None

Great product, well made and sounds great. Used as a replacement in a Bose system for the rear deck. You'll need to put some power through it though. It handled 300 watts at 2ohms with no issues. BTW Crutchfield is the best. Been buying? from them since....1990's or earlier.

Pros: Great design, sounds awesome. Very responsive.

Cons: None so far.

Product Research

Features

Dual Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 4Ω voice coils, offering wiring flexibility. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 2Ω load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents an 8Ω load.

Sealed Enclosures: Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music. Kicker recommends sealed enclosures from 0.4 ft³ to 1.0 ft³.

Vented Enclosures: Vented (or ported) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. Kicker recommends ported enclosures in the following range:

  • Minimum Enclosure Volume: 0.8 ft³ with an 8" x 1.5" x 20-3/4" slot port
  • Maximum Enclosure Volume: 1.2 ft³ with an 8" x 2" x 19-1/8" slot port

Note: Although smaller than optimal, the prefabricated enclosures we list on the accessory page produce very good results.

Not only is it a perfect fit for the Factory enclosure for 8" subwoofer in the cargo compartment of 2007 Acura MDX but it's the same Kicker model (CVR) that has served me for 9 fantastic years. Eventually something has to give just like anything else that gets old. For those who would like to know the max depth of a 2007 Acura MDX cargo subwoofer enclosure (original/factory), it's around 4.7"-4.8" [ Emmanuel  Jul 26, 2016 ]

I have a 2014 Jeep Compass with the Boston Acoustics system with subwoofer. How can I tell if the subwoofer is a 4ohm or a 2ohm speaker ?

We've researched it and found that the stock sub is a DVC 2 ohm one My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Paul

A
Put a volt meter(set to ohms) to the speaker terminals. Its never exactly 2 or 4 or 8 ohms but pretty close unless its totally blown. Dont touch the cone as your doing the test, any movement of the speaker throws off the reading and make sure no wires are attached.
[ DANIEL  Apr 30, 2019 ]
Q
Will this fit as a replacement for a subwoofer in 2008 jeep wrangler x ?
[ Chad  Dec 31, 2017 ]
1 answer
A
Sorry, no. We found the Kicker to be too deep for the available mounting space in the stock subwoofer location. You will find all of the models we do recommend to fit by using the "Find What Fits" application on our website here: https://www.crutchfield.com/car/carselector.aspx?lp=%2fCar%2foutfitmycar%2fmycar.aspx Keep in mind; most any aftermarket sub will also need an aftermarket amp to power it properly. For additional assistance and personalized recommendations, feel free to contact us directly by phone or through our online chat service: https://www.crutchfield.com/support/ContactUs.aspx

I went with a low wattage amp..to me when you have a quality low wattage amp it allows you to put out more volume without compromising the quality of the sound. Those subs are great..mines are still bangin.
[ Patrick  Oct 30, 2017 ]
A
It would depends I if the amp would be used to power other speakers. I'm runninng a sounds stream 5 channel for four mid and high, plus powering one sub. The 8 inch competition sub demands power, I can only imagine what two sounds like.
[ ANTONIO D  Oct 29, 2017 ]

Yes, the Kicker CompR 43CWR84 can be either top or bottom mounted depending on what works best for your vehicle/application. If you would like to discuss further, feel free to contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

It depends on what vehicle your mounting it in ,but there's a way no matter what.
