About the Kicker VSS™ SubStage™ SCHAL08

Custom-built bass for your vehicle

Are you disappointed with the level of bass your factory system provides, but don't like the idea of installing a universal subwoofer and wiring kit? The VSS SubStage powered subs by Kicker are made to fit in specific vehicles, so you get harnesses that connect to your factory wiring, and a sub that's made to mount where your particular vehicle has space. Each system comes with vehicle-specific instructions that guide you every step of the way. The package also includes all of the wiring and hardware you need to complete the installation — that means no running to the hardware store to find a part that you didn't know you'd need.

Ready to rumble

The SubStage doesn't skimp on power and performance — it comes equipped with a 10" square sub powered by a perfectly matched 200-watt amp, all housed in a custom enclosure that's optimized for sound quality. You'll look forward to rumbling lows that can play back the biggest digital drum beat yet also deliver the low-frequency subtleties of a standup bass. Kicker's earned their reputation for making subs that crank out bass you can feel and the SubStage is no exception.

Q
Is the harness and amp available with out the sub box? I already have the box.

We don't have them just by themselves. I recommend contacting Kicker on 405-624-8583 to see if they can supply them outside of the package. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101

Q
with this sub is the factory wiring already there in my 2015/2016 Challenger or does the wiring have to be run to the head unit? I see that someone says its plug and play
[ Gregory  Jan 04, 2016 ]

A
This sub connects to the factory stereo via two wire taps for signal, and attaches to the battery for power so it's not quite a "plug and play" installation. However, all the necessary wires are included, along with detailed installation instructions for your Charger, so the installation is still pretty simple on your own.

Q
If i buy this, is it usable with an aftermarket head unit? say i pioneer app radio 4 for example? it shows pictures of the factory wiring but i can't tell if it would only work with a factory radio, as i have the most basic of factory headings in my 2014 challenger.

It's to replace factory radio, can not be used in conjunction with your radio.

Your question is somewhat confusing. You ask if you can use WITH an aftermarket unit, but I'm assuming you mean INSTEAD of a previous unit. It sounds like your concern is primarily if your car has all the necessary wires this radio needs to function, is that correct? If so, yes, your car should be fine. You may have wires that you end up not using on radio, like amp turn on wire, power antenna wire, etc... but radio will still function properly. Main wires necessary for connection are a constant 12 volt wire, an accessory wire, ground wire and of course wires from your speakers. If order from crutchfield, unit will come with an adapter that plugs into your factory car harness so you won't need to cut your factory wiring. Don't know of ANY car built in last 30-40 years, especially american, that doesn't have needed wires. Main thing people need to worry about as far as being compatible with their car is if radio will work with things like factory steering wheel controls or interfere with airbag functionality, etc... Hope this helps! Good Luck!!
