About the Kicker VSS™ SubStage™ SSICRE14

Custom-built bass for your vehicle

Are you disappointed with the level of bass your factory system provides, but don't like the idea of installing a big subwoofer in your vehicle?  The VSS SubStage powered subs by Kicker are made to fit in specific vehicles, so you get harnesses that connect to your factory wiring, and a sub that's made to mount where your particular vehicle has space. Each system comes with vehicle-specific instructions that guide you every step of the way. The package also includes all of the wiring and hardware you need to complete the installation — that means no running to the hardware store to find a part that you didn't know you'd need.

Ready to rumble

The SubStage doesn't skimp on power and performance — it comes equipped with a 10" sub powered by a perfectly matched 200-watt amp, all housed in a custom enclosure that's optimized for sound quality. You'll look forward to rumbling lows that can play back the biggest digital drum beat yet also deliver the low-frequency subtleties of a standup bass. Kicker's earned their reputation for making subs that crank out bass you can feel and the SubStage is no exception.

The SubStage SSICRE14 fits the 2014-up Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra Crew Cab pickups (with or without Bose®), and the subwoofer installs under the passenger's side of the rear seat. It connects to the factory stereo via two wire taps for signal, and attaches to the battery for power. Please identify your car before purchasing to make sure it'll work with this package, or you can call one of our Advisors at 1-888-955-6000 to confirm fit.

Q
Is there a way a place like Cartoys could install a knob to control the bass for this unit?

A
I don't think so but if you call kicker directly they can help you out

Q
I just purchased the substage and was wondering does Kicker offer the amp from the powerstage kit and wiring separate as an add on to the substage ? thanx

A
I'm afraid Kicker does not currently offer the amp & wiring from their PowerStage system separately as an add-on for the SubStage. If you would like to explore other amplifier options we offer to power your speakers, feel free to contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Q
Will this subwoofer still work if I were to change the OEM head unit out with an aftermarket head unit? My plan would be to buy this sub and a Pioneer head unit (with installation kit) from Crutchfield and install both of them at the same time.

The connections made for the Kicker VSS SubStage are to the battery for power and tapping the front door speaker wires for signal. Those connections are still there if you replace the head unit. That being said, I don't recommend it. The benefit of an aftermarket head unit is a dedicated subwoofer output that will pass a higher voltage and cleaner signal to an aftermarket amp and sub. You can also typically control the volume of the sub independently from the head unit. If you read other reviews on here, that's a feature many folks wish they had. The Kicker VSS SubStage is intended to be an easy plug and play solution when you don't have that dedicated output for a subwoofer. Since it is tapping door speaker wires, it's using a filter of some sort to only pass along bass to the sub. Don't get me wrong, I think it sounds fantastic. But, for relatively the same money, you can get a dedicated amp and sub with cleaner sound and more control. Kicker makes great amps and subs for this type of set up too.

Kickers web site says Not compatible with models equipped with 6.2 Litre engines and Bose Audio System.? But i'm reading reviews thats its installed with the Bose system..? Please clarify thanks

It will work with the 6.2l engine and Bose factory system. Simply clip the violet/blue stripe wire in the rear passenger side sill tray. This disables the active noise canceling eliminating the annoying feedback through the sub.

If you have the 6.2 gas engine it is not compatible. The 6.2 has a noise cancellation microphone in the rear hoodliner. You need to disconnect this by cutting the purple/blue wiring harness channel at the passenger side rear door. --Shiva

Q
Are there any differences between this Kicker sub package and the Kicker sub package sold directly from GM? GM part number 19303118. Thanks.

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: I am not able to find any concrete specs on the GM part to be able to confirm. All indications seem to point to yes, they are the same. To get a definitive answer I would contact Kicker. Their number is 1-405-624-6024. I hope this information helps. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Q
It appears that this woofer installs underneath the rear seat. I have the dealer installed under seat storage tray, will this woofer fit with the tray or would I have to ditch the tray? Maybe it will fit inside of the underseat tray? Anybody know? Thanks.

You can remove the box, or I have seen on some forums where people cut the under-seat storage box to fit next to the sub. So you can have both if you're willing to trim your storage box.

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: This item will not fit with the tray. You would have to take out the tray in order to install it. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
