Installation Note: Some wire-splicing may be required. If this is your first install of this kind, you may want to consider a professional installation.

Product Research

Features

Jeep Wrangler Camera Kit: The BrandMotion Jeep Wrangler Camera Kit (9002-8818) allows you to add a rearview camera to select Jeep Wranglers with a factory radio that features a display monitor, or an aftermarket stereo that features a display monitor and composite video camera input. The camera kit includes a rearview camera, spare tire mounting bracket, wiring, cables, harnesses, and hardware.

Note: This rear-view camera kit is meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rear-view camera when backing-up. In addition to using the rear-view camera, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.

Vehicle Compatibility: The BrandMotion Jeep Wrangler Camera Kit (9002-8818) is designed specifically for 2007-up Jeep Wranglers that feature a factory radio with video monitor, or aftermarket head unit with video monitor and composite video rear-view camera input.

Note: Adding this camera kit to a factory radio will require dealer programming, which will add extra cost.

Panasonic Backup Camera: The BrandMotion Jeep Wrangler Camera Kit features Panasonic backup camera with a 1/4" CMOS image sensor for excellent daytime image crispness and nighttime brightness. It has a wide 170-degree viewing angle.

Park Assist Lines: The backup camera provides parking assist lines on the screen of your vehicle's factory radio display or aftermarket head unit display. These parking lines are there to assist you when backing up into a parking space. There are two vertical lines which help you judge the left and right edges of the parking space and your vehicle. There are also 4 color-coded horizontal lines that are used to distinguish how close you are getting to the end of the parking spot - Green (Clear), Orange (Getting Close), Yellow (Very Close), and Red (Stop).

Note: You can turn off the Park Assist Lines by cutting the green wire on the camera's attached cable.

Mirror or Reverse Image: The backup camera will display a "Mirror" or "Reverse" image on your aftermarket in-dash monitor. By default, the camera will display a mirror image. In order to display a reverse image, you will need to cut the white wire on the camera's attached cable.

Spare Tire Mounting Bracket: The BrandMotion Jeep Wrangler Camera Kit comes with a spare tire mounting bracket to mount the rearview camera inside the factory spare tire on back of your Jeep Wrangler.

Power & Ground: The power (red) & ground (black) wires will need to be hardwired. Power can be obtained from your vehicle's reverse light circuit or from the reverse gear wire of your aftermarket stereo (if applicable). The ground will need to be connected to your vehicle's metal chassis.

Customer Q&A

Q
Does the camera automatically activate when the car is put in reverse?
[ James  Dec 11, 2019 ]

A
Yes it does. We have had it about a year now and no issues!
[ Mark  Dec 13, 2019 ]
A
Yes, as long as all the connections are wired and hooked up correctly, the camera automatically comes on. I installed this in my wife's Jeep with an aftermarket stereo and it was simple plug and play installation. Provides a good rear view on the stereo screen. Works great.
[ Marty  Dec 12, 2019 ]
A
yes,and you can also activate as needed. Example: if you want to monitor a trailer that you are towing.
[ RUFUS  Dec 11, 2019 ]
A
Yes, however I have it hooked up to a Pioneer AVIC8200NEX and now after the summer here in AZ it only works once, now that the weather is cooler it is working 2 to 3 times in a day. I really can't blame the camera, I think it is the Pioneer head unit.
[ Don  Dec 11, 2019 ]
A
On my Jeep, there is a signal wire from the head unit ( radio, gps, DVD combo) that turns the camera on when shifted in reverse. There are other ways to signal the camera as well if you do not have a can-bus signal or simpler vehicle electronics.
[ GREGG  Dec 11, 2019 ]
A
Yes, comes on automatically in reverse.
[ DOUGLAS W  Dec 11, 2019 ]
Q
Do you need to have the vehicle programmed to accept the camera? Thanks
[ Bryan  Dec 02, 2019 ]
4 answers
A
I actually purchased an aftermarket head unit at the same time. The vehicle did not need to be programmed. It was plug and play. From what I remember from my research, the dealer must program it if you have a factory unit. I hope this helps.
[ Scott  Dec 03, 2019 ]
A
Yes it took 15 minutes and cost $19
[ Justin  Dec 03, 2019 ]
A
Yes, I had the dealer flash it.
[ Reece  Dec 02, 2019 ]
A
Based on my experience this will depend on the type of radio / display you are using. The factory radio will need to be programmed, ie. the backup camera feature activated on the ECU. Aftermarket radios most likely already have this feature enabled (or most likely never disabled). The exception on the factory radio is if you already had a backup camera feature activated, this will be a drop in replacement.
[ Alexander  Dec 02, 2019 ]
Q
where do I tie in the red and black wires that come off the camera side?
[ bruce  Aug 23, 2019 ]

Q
Image is reversed after install - almost took my fence out! Cannot figure out how to flip it - not an option on the head unit. No switch within the wires on the tailgate. Help?
[ STACIE  Aug 08, 2019 ]

A
Sounds like the camera was installed at the factory upside down. I don't think there is a way to flip an analog camera like this one programmatically. You might try the adjustment screw in the back, to see if you can uninstall, flip the camera, and reinstall. Otherwise you might stuck with a warranty exchange. I would get in touch with either crutch field and / or brand motion. They took care of me when my camera shipped broken.
[ Alexander  Aug 08, 2019 ]
A
Image mirroring is typically done through the head unit settings for the camera. Which make and model head unit do you have?
[ TROY B  Aug 08, 2019 ]
Q
Will this work with the factory 430 non nav radio if flashed at dealer? If so is the wiring harness plug and play with factory radio?
[ Steve  Jul 05, 2018 ]
1 answer
A
Yes, it will work with the 430 non navigation. It comes with the harness to plug into the back of the radio for the camera input. You will need to splice the 12v positive and ground wires for the camera into the 12v accessory wires on the dash. The instructions provided are not the correct ones for this application.
