Waterproof foam baffles from XTC fit behind speakers to keep them clean and dry. They compress easily to fit the installation, and form a mounting seal that can reduce panel vibration. Use these speaker baffles along with a Dynamat kit when you install your new speakers, and you'll enjoy improved sound and performance.

These baffles will protect your speakers. In many applications we recommend that you cut a hole in the bottom of the baffle, or remove the entire bottom of the baffle, to maintain good bass response while still protecting your speaker from dirt and water damage. Call one of our Advisors if you have questions — they'll be happy to share their expertise with you.

Perfect part for the job! I have mounted these behind the speaker baffles I made the dashboard in my truck! I Put a few layers of fiberglass around them to stiffen things up, and they didn't deteriorate!! Everything is fitting exactly how I wanted! Again, Crutchfield was convenient and fast to ship the product!! Thank you,

Pros: Perfect size, easy with which to work,

Cons: None!

This is a must have when replacing factory speakers and removing the old insulation the car manufacturer places around the speaker. These help smaller speakers to improve mid/bass response. They also protect the speaker from dirt/moisture/elements.

My dashboardspeakers sound fuller

Fred from West Hartford, CT on 8/20/2017

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I felt like I needed to take the edge off of my 3 1/2 inch dashboard speakers and these did the trick. I cut a 1" by 1.5" hole in the back and one the size of a nickel on the side (for the wires) so I wouldn't smother the speakers which made a big difference.

Pros: Very thick but pliable. Good Quality.

Cons: No instructions

Such a great improvement on the sound for such a small investment. Can definitely tell a difference and would recommend to anyone thinking whether they are worth getting. Of course it still helps to have a nice quality speaker, but just adds that little extra something to make them sound even better.

Slimline did not clear magnet assembly

Danny from Vancouver, WA on 9/20/2014

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I bought these inexpensive baffles with the intention of using them for a rear panel mount install of an older set of Infinity 32cf speakers into a VW Cabriolet. When I ordered, I waffled back and forth between regular and slimline depth, knowing the larger magnet assembly may be a tough fit. Bottom line is- the slimline does not clear the magnet. I would return them, but for $7, I would rather not hassle Crutchfield. (I know they would make it right, but since the margin on these is so slim- I'll pass.) Rating based on product quality.

Pros: Non resonant, water-resistant baffle. High density foam appears durable enough for long term

Cons: Slim line baffle does not fit 3.5" Infinity Kappa.

Shallow foam baffles

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Simple molded foam, flexible baffle.

Pros: Seals the rear of the speaker, flexible and waterproof.

Cons: Wish it had an adhesive mounting surface. Also the circumferance should be a little larger as there is no room for the speaker terminals.

It's OK

Genius from Central Florida on 7/30/2014

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

So far, there is an improvement in sound quality. It does what it's suppose to do. That is to damping reverberation in the sheet metal. It also prevents sound from moving to unwanted areas and reduces road noise and vibrations that are transferred to the back of the speaker cone.

Pros: An improvement in speaker performance.

Cons: Little or no information on what it actually does and how best to use them.

Any speaker install should include the baffles. They can increase the responsiveness of the speaker by limiting free air space behind it. They also protect the back of the speaker from any moisture or excess noise that may occur, especially in door speakers or in my case, a rear roof deck. [ Matthew  Mar 01, 2019 ]

A
Very convenient for a extra layer of protection, possibly helping midbass, and help against vibration causing cracks in my old dash(has other cracks but not near speakers)! [ Joshua  Oct 30, 2018 ]
A
Jenny from Crutchfield said that these are the baffles to use on the dash speakers of my 2013 RAV4 XLE without JBL audio. The opening for the speaker location is pretty much open to the foot well and I have 3.5" Kicker DSC35 (43DSC3504) 2-Way speakers installed in the dash. The OEM speakers were just tweeters in cup mounts so no need to worry about the opening being sealed. These baffles will give the cones something to push the air off of behind them. Q
Roughly how much air space is in one of these??
[ Tony  Aug 19, 2017 ]
3 answers
A
Hi Tony, I'm sure you understand that these are more for dust and water protection than an actual enclosure. They will help a bit with sq but not much. With a 3" speaker the enclosure is very small. Your best bet is to build an enclosure out of mdf. Because these speakers are so small, you can probably use 1/4" mdf. And I'm assuming you are going to use a capacitor with them they won't produce much bass so the enclosure won't matter much. Good luck ;-)
[ RUDY  Aug 23, 2017 ]
A
Not quite sure what you mean by air space. I'm assuming you're talking about inside the baffle. With speaker installed, you have about 1.5-2" more space from magnet back to the back of the baffle depending on speaker. Hope this helps.
[ RUDY  Aug 20, 2017 ]
A
Not much the speaker fits snug. The baffle takes up room so putting a tight space won't work.
[ CAMERON  Aug 20, 2017 ]
