Waterproof foam baffles from XTC fit behind speakers to keep them clean and dry. They compress easily to fit the installation, and form a mounting seal that can reduce panel vibration. Use these speaker baffles along with a Dynamat kit when you install your new speakers, and you'll enjoy improved sound and performance.

These baffles will protect your speakers. In many applications we recommend that you cut a hole in the bottom of the baffle, or remove the entire bottom of the baffle, to maintain good bass response while still protecting your speaker from dirt and water damage. Features

Product Overview: These acoustic baffles are designed to be placed behind car speakers to protect the speaker from moisture and dirt which can damage speaker components. Along with providing a sealed chamber, they also form a mounting seal between the speaker and the mounting surface to eliminate panel to frame resonance. Baffles will improve door acoustics by reducing road noise and vibrations transferred to the back of the speaker cone. The baffles are pliable and can be compressed to fit most applications.

During install I found that without some type of backing my new speakers would be rigid mounted, with no backing. These will also keep out unwanted stuff like dirt and water from your speakers. I was not going to use anything but had second thoughts so I ordered one set to check them out and found how much better of an install you will have with these. [ Paul  Jan 16, 2017 ]

A
I have an older vehicle and all my speakers are in the doors , I want to protect my new speakers from any water or dirt that may get passed the weather seals on the windows plus it will increase the mid bass and redirect the sound coming out of the back of the speakers to the inside of the vehicle instead of losing it in the doors. It's an easy upgrade to do while your swapping out your old speakers and it's not too expensive. [ STEVEN  Apr 07, 2016 ]
A
Helps the life of the speakers by keeping dirt and water off the speakers when using them in door applications. [ denis  Mar 04, 2016 ]
A
I used these on my 2011 Mustang. They were easy to install, and the speakers sounded great. This is my second set, for my other vehicle - 2013 Ford F150. After my first experience with them, I add them to all my speaker orders. Can't beat the price either! [ Troy  Jan 27, 2016 ]
A
Dexter explained to me. Its best to get them. Because if water gets in. Your speakers will be protected from the water. And also they will help with the bass. You can choose not to get them. But it doesn't hurt to spend a couple bucks for them. Trust me and the Crutchfield team. Dexter's Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=175 [ Kevin  Jan 25, 2016 ]

A
I used them primarily for looks. It just looks neater. I really can't say that it improves the sound.
[ Jon  Jul 09, 2018 ]
A
Supposedly it helps the sound. I believe they are designed for the rear trunk deck use.

Is there any purpose in installing these in the rear deck as well?

A
I have 2 subwoofers in my trunk and these baffles limit the interaction the woofer air movement has on the speaker cones of the drivers in the deck. If you do not have subwoofer interference you will not notice a very large difference in sound quality.
[ Adam1  Jul 09, 2018 ]
A
Yes. However, I have found the bass to be weak if you don't cut out a bit of an opening into the bsck of these baffles..

Q
One customers said he put a quarter size hole in and glue 1" of fiber fill to them. What the heck is fiber fill? Did he glue it to the inside or outside. I don't think I have enough clearance on the outside. This are for my front doors on a "98 Grand Marquis LS. Thanks a bunch,
[ Alan  Dec 26, 2013 ]

A
fiber fill is probably that polyester stuff that is probably in stuffed animals. It's safer than fiberglass (no issue w/ inhaling or itchiness) and available at most craft/ fabric stores. I would assume he means he dropped it on top - not mount the baffle underneath - so it just sits on top of the sheetmetal and your speaker drops on top of that.
[ ERIC T  Dec 28, 2013 ]
A
I didn't put any glue, I placed them inside and held them there with the new speakers. Then I just cut the excess around them. It works great and sounds good.
