About the Crux SWRFD-60E Wiring Interface

Bob Bihlmayer

Keep your factory display

Notes: The SWRFD-60E interface allows you to keep your steering wheel controls with radios from Alpine, Blaupunkt, Boss, Clarion, Dual, Jensen, JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer, and Sony. You'll need to set the time and date display before removing the factory radio; you can't make adjustments once that radio has been removed.

Product Research

Features

Radio Replacement Interface: The CRUX SWRFD-60E is a radio replacement for select 2011-up Ford vehicles with a factory 4" screen. It facilitates the integration of an aftermarket radio to enable retention of factory features when replacing a factory installed radio in select Ford vehicles. This interface is pre-programmed for retention of Steering Wheel Controls; including Phone Answer/End functions. It also retains the vehicle's factory 4" screen, Aux input, and Voice command features.

Vehicle Compatibility: The CRUX SWRFD-60E is compatible with the following 2011-up Ford vehicles with a factory 4" screen. The CRUX radio replacement interface works on vehicles with or without SYNC. However, the SWRFD-60E does not retain the factory SYNC system.

Make Model Year
Ford Edge 2011-2014
Escape 2013-up
Explorer 2011-2015
F-150 2013-2014
Fiesta 2014-up
Focus 2012-2014
Transit 2015-up
Transit Connect 2014-2018

Factory 4" Screen Retention: The CRUX SWRFD-60E radio replacement interface will retain your Ford vehicle's factory 4" LCD screen. You will need to set the Date & Time of the display prior to removal of the factory radio. Once the factory radio is removed, you can no longer make adjustments to Date & Time.

Retains Factory Aux Input: In vehicles without SYNC, the SWRFD-60E can retain the factory Aux input. Your aftermarket head unit must be equipped with a rear-panel Aux input. If your aftermarket receiver doesn't have a stereo RCA rear-panel Aux input, but instead a 3.5mm rear-panel Aux input, you'll need a female stereo to RCA adapter (sold separately).

Retained Voice Commands & Phone Functions: On vehicles equipped with SYNC, the CRUX SWRFD-60E will retain the factory voice command functions that can be activated from the factory steering wheel controls. The SWRFD-60E also retains the Phone Answer/End functions of the steering wheel controls on all compatible vehicles.

Pre-Programmed Steering Wheel Controls: The SWRFD-60E includes a pre-programmed steering wheel control (SWC) module and harness that allows you to retain your vehicle's factory steering wheel controls. The harness consists of a right-angle 3.5mm connector and a blue/yellow wire (only one connection type will be used based on your brand of aftermarket radio). There is also SWC adapter for aftermarket radios with a 3-wire steering wheel control input. The SWRFD-60E will work with any of the listed aftermarket radio brands that feature a steering wheel control input using the appropriate connector and dip-switch settings (see owner's manual for appropriate settings).

  • 3.5mm Connector: Alpine, Clarion, Pioneer, Sony, Jensen, Older JVC
  • Blue/Yellow Wire: Kenwood, Newer JVC
  • 3-Wire Adapter: Other aftermarket radios (like Boss) with SWC Key 1, SWC Key 2, and SWC Ground wires

Navigation Outputs: The CRUX SWRFD-60E radio replacement interface module provides a VSS (vehicle speed sense) and a Reverse Gear output to make installing an aftermarket navigation radio simpler and less time consuming.

Q
I have 2105 escape, will the backup camera be displayed on the 4" screen or will it appear on the double din?
erick  Jan 06, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Erick. Thank you for your question. This interface will lose the factory camera. Even on the 4 inch screen. There is data going to and from the vehicles computer, the actual radio, and that 4 inch screen. What you need in order to keep use of the factory camera, is a stereo with an Idatalink port, and the Idatalink Maestro wiring interface. Please contact one of our advisors for more assistance. Their number is 800-324-9695.

Greetings Frank, and thank you for your question. The interface by Crux is to adapt an aftermarket stereo to replace the factory radio in select 2012-2019 Ford vehicles. Please contact one of our advisors at 800-324-9695 to confirm compatibility.

Q
Does this kit allow me to plug my iPhone in through USB?
marty  May 14, 2023

A
This is a harness for installing an aftermarket car stereo. It would not help with connecting your iPhone to your car stereo.

Q
I own a 2012 Ford Focus and I have a Power Acoustik CPAA-70M. Is this installing harness comparable and will it retain the cars SWC?
ramon  Jan 19, 2023

A
This interface does feature a setting for steering wheel control compatibility with Power Acoustik radios. We have not tested this with Power Acoustik radios, but in theory it should work nicely.

Q
Crutchfield notes indicate the ability to adjust factory clock gets lost when upgrading from the factory stereo. Can anyone confirm? My wife's car does not have a backup camera that pipes to the 4" screen but displaying incorrect time would be a little annoying.
zachary  Sep 05, 2022

Greetings Zachary, and thank you for your question. That's correct, once the factory radio is removed, you cannot adjust the clock or date. Well not unless you reinstall the factory radio every time you need to make the adjustments. Maybe there is a better interface option for you. I would need the year, and model of the vehicle, plus if any premium factory sound systems if you had that to check for a better option.

Q
I need a kit that will retain the stock backup camera functionality on the factory four inch screen. This kit generically says that it retains the factory screen functionality, but doesn't specifically mention if the backup camera will still work. Anyone know?

Enter an answer to this question.I would like to help you with an answer to your question but I cannot because my car does not have the rear camera installed, everything else works perfectly but you should not have any problem because it is supposed to retain the rear camera

Q
Hi, will the reverse beep retain with this kit?
ghee0  Sep 19, 2019

A
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.
