Wow. Totally replaced my OE steering wheel control functionality. Extreemly pleased. Not much more to say. Does exactly what it is supposed to do. I bought the Crutchfield ReadyHarnessT Service and was so pleased with it. Very tidy, and unused wires were tied off, and cables were bundled together and zip tied. Well worth the money. Saved me so much time.

Pros: Works

This works perfectly! Had some questions about wiring, Crutchfield's tech had me sorted out in less than 5 minutes. Just set the DIP pins like the instructions said and plugged it in. DONE! Because of the head unit itself I actually have more options with my steering wheel controls now !

Pros: Retained factory steering wheel controls

Cons: None I can find!

Works flawlessly with my steering wheel controls. There are multiple different connectors included depending on what head unit you bought. It can be noted that the controller on the Crux controlls different features depending on the model of head unit...for example: holding the volume button down on your steering wheel to quickly advance the volume level works with some head units and not with others...It also tells you what the buttons will do individually...like a mode button on your steering wheel = XXXX function on your head unit. I love the thing and I'm super glad I could keep my steering wheel controls. Thanks!

This was the first car stereo that I have installed on my own. At first the directions on the Master Sheet seemed a bit overwhelming, but as soon as I tackled the task step by step everything came together strikingly easily. I was actually a little shocked when I started the car up for the first test and the stereo, steering wheel controls, and bluetooth mic worked perfectly (I was expecting SOMETHING to have gone wrong).

The harness worked out great. I was able to mate the wires to the stereo sitting in the comfort of my couch. Then pulled out the factory radio, connected harness to the factory connectors and I instantly had connectivity. This kit included the steering wheel control adapter. All together this made installing a new radio quite simple. I should mention, the coloring harness wires of the match the color the new stereo wires which also increase ease of wiring.

Pros: Colors match that of new radio's connector Plug and play for steering wheel controls and factory wiring

Good harness, wires are good quality gauge and the plastic is easy to strip if necessary. I feel it would be easier if they did less to save money by making a one harness for all" since I ended up cutting several of the connections not needed, however that's my own take. Highly suggest using traditional connectors (red) and not any sort of quick-connector. Don't take shortcuts.

Very easy to use, no confusion about what to plug in where. This harness let me retain my steering wheel controls when I replaced my stock stereo. Mostly Easy to Follow

Daniel from Houston, TX on 5/6/2017

2010 Toyota Camry

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Wiring was easy to follow, but instructions for the radio set up was lacking: 2 wires present to connect to 1 wire from unit (I.e. You have to choose to connect either the blue and white or the solid blue to the corresponding solid blue wire. No instructions with kit on recommendations/function between the two wires. Per online forums via Google, we apparently chase the wrong choice as there is static for all radio stations AM and FM. We will have to disassemble the unit and reconfigure in hopes this is he solution to have radio functionality. Would be helpful to have included in the kit helpful tips between how to choose between the two wires.

Pros: Color coding makes it simple and easy to follow

Cons: Two wires to potentially connect to radio function with no helpful description on how to best choose between the two

Simple but complete interface

Simple to set up with just a few switches. Solder all connections to head unit harness. Can learn easily online with videos if you haven't done before. My big issue with this interface is the controls don't match up with what is in the manual. For Toyota and Pioneer, Crux says that the up and down buttons on steering wheel are going to be up and down PRESET for short press. However, it actually is up and down TUNE. That is not very useful for me. There is no setting is Pioneer to change this. Crutchfield technical support says that this is up to Pioneer. I attempted to contact Crux customer support on web - No response. In the end, still very satisfied overall.

Pros: Simple, works, good instrutions

Cons: Steering wheel controls not as advertised

Purchased this for my mother's Toyota Camry. Installation was a snap, follow the instructions carefully and it will work perfectly the first time! I waited 6 months to review this... Inlike to give things some test time before I review an item. It lost 1 star when the battery was replaced in my mother's car. The module stopped working when the new battery was connected and I had to pull the dash back apart, unplug the module then plug it back in. It prevented the stereo from turning on at all. It apparently gets confused when the battery is disconnected and requires resetting after the battery is reconnected.

Pros: Easy installation, well done instructions

Cons: Doesn't play nicely after battery is disconnected and reconnected.

Used this wiring interface to install a Pioneer AVH-X3800BHS. This product worked great, was able to maintain the steering wheel controls on my wife's 2010 Toyota Camry. The wiring is fairly intuitive in that you connect like colored wires. I did have to call Crutchfield support to ask them how to connect some that didn't have a match. I also had to ask where to connect the bluetooth mic as there are two potential spots to put it. Very happy with this purchase, works as expected. Thanks Crutchfield!

Pros: STeering wheel controls work perfect! Everything works as expected. Made install very easy.

Cons: Wiring instructions could be a little more clear.

Work great, plus the Crux interface built in Steering Access Control. You don't need to get ASWC-1 for your vehicle. I would recommend to talk to an advisor first, before you order. He or She will point you to the right direction. I wish I have done that. Now I have to return the ASWC-1. Easy to install , all the wires can be intimidate. When in doubt , call them up. That's what great about Crutchfield . They employed the best people. I've been shopping with them since 1986.

This has been the best module I have used. I had two other brands that died on two different vehicles. I now have two of these and they work every time. I knocked off one star because when you hit the volume up button on the wheel, it will go up two numbers in volume sometimes instead of just one. I don't mind because they work perfectly other than that.

Pros: Easy to install. Connect it to the head unit wiring and then plug and play to the vehicle. No tapping into the vehicle wiring.

Cons: Just that going up two on volume instead of one number when you hit the volume up and it only happens sometimes.

Sure, I would have loved if I hadn't had to wire it together myself. And yes, the instructions felt a little vague/lacking. But I took my time and it all worked out really well. I was worried about losing existing functionality when replacing the factory unit with an aftermarket one, but this allowed me to keep the existing steering wheel controls and that's what I wanted. Also, doing the actual wiring felt pretty rewarding, even if it was also a little daunting.

Pros:

Cons: Needed a quick trip to the hardware store to buy wiring connectors. Not really a "Con" because it didn't claim it had them, but I also didn't realize it would need them. Anyhow no biggie, but if you read this, realize you'll need some wiring connectors (or electrical tape) to complete the connection.

Color for color, it matched my radio's wiring. Be careful to attach the antenna power wire. My Toyota has an undocumented wire attachment that needs to get power, otherwise very limited radio reception. The only wires that don't match up (I think it was solid blue to blue with white stripe.) I also recommend "heat shrinkable tubing" to seal the wires and provide great insulation. This tubing is available at most hardwares stores.

Pros: Very easy to follow. Did not take much time at all.

Cons: None.

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I used this to install a Kenwood DDX9702S in my 2010 Tacoma. It took 15 or 20 minutes to solder this adapter to the radio's harness, there are a lot of wires. I sealed all the connections with heat shrink tube. When I plugged it in everything worked perfectly. For the steering wheel controls I ignored the 1/8 inch jack (just leave the cover on it) and connected the appropriate wire. Yes, just one wire. There was one wire that had a strange label and no match on the radio harness so I just left it. Turns out that was the right call. Everything worked properly on the first try, including all steering wheel control functions - that makes the harness more than worth the price.

Pros: Worked great - just match colors and connect the wires.

Cons: Directions weren't entirely clear - I would have like to know there may be an unused wire. I had to shove so much wire behind the radio and under the dash I wasn't sure it would all fit, I still worry that there might be wires that are pinched or rubbing somewhere.

The wiring interface had simple instructions for basic operations

Pros: good support from the help center for wires that are not clearly marked on the wiring diagram

Cons: after following the advise of the help line they instructed me to attach the "pink" wire to the parking break switch located by the parking break pedal , after doing this I still could not get the DVD to work at all still trying

Buy this harness if you are new to installs like myself, package was shipped Quickly and properly (thanks Crutchfield) . Just take your time and read instructions, its mostly color to color with your radio harness, quick and easy. I installed a KENWOOD DNX 891 into a 2011 Taco with SWC and all features worked great. Had one brown wire labeled ''pulse signal generation'' but a quick call to tech confirmed it was not needed in my application, would buy this harness again.

Pros: Straight Forward, Color to Color, Plug and Play

Cons: None

You'll need prior experience (or research and a lot of courage) in installing car radios when using this interface wiring kit. The instructions can be better. I'm not a professional installer but I've replaced factory radios in two of my previous cars. I also did a lot of reading about other peoples experience before i started. Anyways, I used cap connectors (as suggested by professionals) and it made connecting wires a cinch. Regarding the instructions, first the manufacturer could have suggested the use of these cap connectors (for example) and perhaps even tips on make a loom to avoid wire tangling during the insertion of the radio back into its slot. Separate sheets could be included for specific vehicles that cites which wire may not be needed. I had to call Crutchfield to confirm that at least two wires are not necessary for my radio. Also, this will not allow you to use ALL the steering wheel functions (as indicated on the Crutchfield website). And, the USB (& Aux) ports on the dash, if you have it. Push-to-talk, phone on/off hook will not function with the SWC interface.

Pros: Adequate to work with Pioneer AVIC-7000 NEX on a 2012 Toyota Tundra SR5, non-JBL, non-Nav. The SWC connector makes the MODE, Volume +/- and Presets < / > on the steering wheel.

Cons: Does not have provisions for the USB/AUX (on the dash) for my vehicle. The SWC connector does not provide for push-to-talk, phone on/off hook buttons on the steering wheel.

This kit made installing the new head unit in my vehicle SO much easier I couldn't imagine installing it without them. Another great thing is that the steering wheel controls now work fully; with the stock head unit the only control available via the steering wheel was the volume. Pros: Retains steering wheel control with a new head unit; easy-to-install

Great Connector

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I bought this connector to attach my Pioneer AVH-X5600BHS to my 2011 Toyota Camry. At first it looks like this will never connect, and there are too many wires. If you just follow the wiring diagram, and connect each wire one at a time, you will do just fine. On a side note, make sure you use the remote antenna connector not the remote amp power connector, or you will get crappy FM/AM reception. Toyota needs power to the antenna, so use the proper connection! Being able to keep my steering wheel controls is a huge plus as well. Other than my own stupidity, this is a perfect kit.

Pros: Ease of connections, and plug and play between the factory wiring and the new head-unit.

Cons: The documentation could be better laid out, but if you look at it one wire at a time, it's easy.

This adapter works well. At first it would not work as it was supposed to, directions were not great. Had to call Crutchfield customer service. At first wouldn't work, then after talking with the super nice rep got it all situated. She actually came in to work on a day off to help customers. Does not support answer/hangup function, or voice dialing through the steering wheel. Pretty sure that is with any HU as that interface is not simple like volume/source controls. Everything else works great. Also this unit retains the factory usb/aux output. You will lose the control of the device through the HU as it is only an rca audio output to the HU, but it will still function and play. Would have to chose songs on an idevice instead of scrolling through on the head unit. Directions for wiring was simple.

Pros: Works as expected, minus the call answer feature. Super friendly customer service from Crutchfield.

Cons: Directions not absolutely clear, there are two square plugs in the harness and it doesn't list which one needs to be plugged into the module itself. Apparently one is for programming. You have to use the plug with the blue wire.

Almost perfect

This wiring harness was a god send when I upgraded the stock stereo in our 2011 Toyota Camry to a new Kenwood double DIN receiver. Once installed, most all the original steering wheel controls worked perfected with my new head unit. The only reason I'm dinging the part one star is for the installation instructions, that although well written (for the most part), were on instruction short of being complete). The final wire/mini harness required was not detailed in the install instructions, leaving me a non-working setup. One call to Crutchfield support, and maybe five minutes on the phone, completed the install process (one wire connection and a plug in), and everything worked perfectly. If Crux would add one line to their installation instructions to cover this oversight on their part, this would be a five star review. If you're upgrading your head unit, and have stock steering wheel controls, get and install this harness as is simplifies the install process and allows you to keep your steering wheel controls.

Pros: Simplifies the installation of a new head unit and when installed, allows you to keep your steering wheel controls for a truly factory like install.

Cons: Instructions are not quite complete as currently written.

Called Crutchfield to get advice on which steering wheel control module I should get. The advisor did a search and came across this wiring harness with the SWC module integrated into the harness. On top of that it was on special! I bought it. To be clear, I did not install it myself. I got the InstallCard (great if you do not have time to install yourself or you are not brave enough to install on your own) and the installer did not have a hard time with this at all, even though this was his first time using this particular harness. It's a bit pricier, but seems to be easier to use than other SWC modules.

Pros: Seems easier to work with Installer did not charge me extra to install like with other SWC modules

Cons: Pricier by about $10-$20.

This was remarkably simple to install, with almost no setup required. The one issue I have is that the combination of this wiring harness and the radio I have (Kenwood BT318U) means the steering wheel controls don't go from preset radio station to preset radio station, but instead tune the radio directly. It's possible I'll be able to find a way around that, and it's more nuisance than problem, really. Everything else worked perfectly.

Q
Do I still need to get the READY HARNESS too if I get this?
[ Cory  Aug 05, 2018 ]
1 answer
A
The ReadyHarness is a service where we connect the wires from this harness to the harness of the receiver you order with it. You can make those connections yourself if you like and if you plan on doing that, you won't need to order the ReadyHarness service. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101

Q
This is the wiring harness that was recommended when I was ordering my navigation receiver but on the package it says it is for Toyota Tundra's through 2011. Mine is a 2013. But, I looked at my order and there is a big green checkmark then it says "Fits my 2013 Toyota Tundra". So, is this the correct Wiring Harness?
