About the Hertz K 165

Alexander H.

Start with Hertz

I can be a heel-dragger if we're talking DIY projects, but when it comes to upgrading to new speakers, I always regret waiting. Going from the fuzzy crackly-ness of old factory speakers to clear and present sound is always rewarding. Hertz's Uno Series car speakers give you a way to do so with solid power handling and trickle-down design elements from competition-level audio engineering.

I can be a heel-dragger if we're talking DIY projects, but when it comes to upgrading to new speakers, I always regret waiting. Going from the fuzzy crackly-ness of old factory speakers to clear and present sound is always rewarding. Factory replacements

With aftermarket power up to 75 watts RMS, this Hertz's Uno Series K 165 6-1/2" component speaker system employs a treated paper cone and foam surround for low-frequency excellence and a separate PEI dome tweeter with an integrated crossover for crisp highs. Hertz includes tweeter installation solutions for a variety of mounting styles.

The Hertz philosophy

Hertz believes that a good speaker should reveal the emotional power of the music you love. That's a high bar, but with their commitment to using premium components and boundary-pushing design, they're more than up to challenge. Comprised of music lovers, Hertz is committed to optimizing your car's system for total audio enjoyment.

Grilles are not included; the factory grilles should be suitable for most applications.

Size Classification Note: Some manufacturers, including Hertz, call this size woofer a 6-1/2". Because it requires a larger cutout than a standard 6-1/2" speaker, Crutchfield has traditionally referred to this size speaker as a 6-3/4". Please enter your vehicle information to confirm fit.

Tweeter Mounting: Brackets are included for flush mounting and angled surface mounting (60° or 30°) the tweeters. If surface mounting, holes for the mounting screws and wire will need to be drilled.

Q
How do these not fit, but the Qclass Kicker 6.5" components do? And they are the ONLY 6.5"components to fit my 2017 ford expedition? These are smaller by specs I don't understand. Kicker Q-Class 41QSS654
frank  Sep 14, 2023
1 answer
A
This is a matter of available brackets for your vehicle. The Kicker 41QSS654 include adapter brackets specifically for installing the speakers into 6"x8" openings (your factory speakers are 6"x8"). The Hertz K 165 do not include such a bracket, and we do not have a 6"x8"-to-6.5" adapter for your vehicle. We only have a 6"x8"-to-5.25" adapter. If you don't mind making your own bracket or finding one that we don't carry, then you will be able to install the Hertz K 165. However, for the sake of saving our customers confusion and installation troubles, we simply list them as not fitting.

Q
What airspace do the woofers need? as I'm putting two in a box or one in separate boxes
dominic  May 27, 2022
1 answer
A
The woofers in this component set do not need any specific air space. Typically woofers do not move the same amount of air that a subwoofer moves.

Q
Follow up to my previous question. I see from the pictures, that both the woofer and Tweeter are rated 4 Ohms. How does the combination of the two present a 4-ohm load to a 2 channel amp?

Q
What amp do I need to power four of them?
carlos  Aug 05, 2021
1 answer
A
I'm running off stereo power and they are decent, a nice little amp would probably be better though.
brent  Aug 05, 2021
Q
Is thus 75 watt RMS x4/ each component or is it 75 watt RMS x2/ woofers & tweeters treated as one?
mack  Apr 05, 2021
1 answer
A
Each tweeter/woofer set acts as one speaker so it would be x2
benjamin  Apr 17, 2021
Q
Is a crossover needed for the mid range k165 component speaker? I know the tweeter has a inline crossover already.
brian  Mar 09, 2021
1 answer
A
I have the component system and it has a inline cross over. It does a pretty good job separating the mids, highs, and lows. It's a good mid range speaker system.

Q
How in the world are these tweeters supposed to fit into the flush mount adapter?

A
I cannot remember how I got them on its been awhile since but they do go on and sound great. If i remember correctly they fit snugly on the inside of the adapter. I put them on completely wrong the first time i did it and had to take them apart. Sorry i cant be of more specific help.

Q
What is the woofer's excursion?
alexander  Apr 10, 2020
1 answer
A
I only drive these speakers with the head unit (22 Watts) and have the crossover from the powered compact sub set at 120hz, so I doubt I've ever come close to the excursion limit. Note that these are very efficient speakers, which is why I removed the Focal speakers I installed previously and installed Hertz. The produce good sound quality, and can get very loud, without an amp. If you like chest-collapsing bass you might want to try out a powered compact sub (I have a Kenwood under the seat in my WRX). Some people have actually installed two .
steven  Apr 10, 2020
Q
How much excursion do these woofers exhibit?
alexander  Apr 09, 2020
1 answer
A
Hi Alexander, we do not have information of excursion distance on the speakers. Please chat with us online or by phone at 1-800-324-9695 if you would like to discuss fitment of these speakers into your vehicle.

Q
Ford Fusion 2015 - If the Hertz K 170 and the MTX Terminator6S both fit all 4 doors, shouldn't the K 165 also fit all 4 doors? Is the information on the K 165 inaccurate?
bruce  Feb 27, 2020

Per the manufacturer the woofer is rated at 220 watts peak, and the tweeter is 55 watts continuous PER EACH SPEAKER. I use this component system with a stock head unit and the bass response is good and the highs are crisp. Through my experience aftermarket head units have higher fidelity which sometimes means less bass and may require a sub for those that want window pounding bass. I've had both setups stock & aftermarket. This component system is very balanced and not easily overdriven at semi loud listening levels. Hope this helps
eric  Apr 17, 2021
A
You may need an adapter for your specific vehicle. I know I did for my Toyota Avalon. Look online for a 6.5 speaker adapter for you car and see if there is one needed.
