A spectacular picture

Alpine adds High Dynamic Range to the HCE-C1100 backup cam to give you their best picture yet. With HDR, you'll see more detail whether you're backing up in a bright parking lot at noon or a dark parking garage at midnight.

So small you'll hardly notice it

Measuring about one cubic inch, this ice-cube sized camera pairs stealthily with Alpine's low-key KTX-C10LP license plate mounting kit to give you a 131º horizontal viewing angle on the world behind you. With a view this expansive and clear, you'll dare to parallel park in spaces most people would avoid.

This camera is compatible with any in-dash receiver or front-mount screen with a composite video input.

Installing this camera yourself? Here's what you should know.

What does it do? Unless otherwise noted, a backup camera is only intended for use backing up your vehicle. (If you require a front-view or constant rear-view camera, check for that capability.)

What tools and supplies will I need? A panel tool, a wire cutter/stripper, a soldering iron, and a rosin-core solder with heat shrink tubing are recommended, along with whatever tools are needed to remove the radio from the dash.

How much wiring is required? Wiring instructions vary from camera to camera. Some cameras have power wiring that can only be connected near the radio. Others let you power the camera at compatible reverse lights. In all cases, the camera must be wired for power and ground, the camera's video output must be connected to the radio/monitor, and the radio/monitor must be connected to a reverse trigger in your vehicle. Some radio replacement interfaces supply a reverse trigger wire for the radio -- using that wire to power your camera will damage the interface.

Will the included video cable be long enough? You'll need to route the camera's video cable from its mounting location outside your vehicle into your vehicle's cabin and all the way to the screen in the dash. This often requires drilling a small hole in your vehicle or filing some metal and or plastic. You'll also need to estimate the length of cable needed to run from the camera to the dash, which will not be a straight shot. Each camera's cable length is listed.

Product Research

Features

Rearview Camera: Alpine's all new HDR backup camera (HCE-C1100) makes maneuvering your vehicle in reverse easier and safer. A rearview camera is a great way to improve your parking skills and make backing up safer.

  • Weatherproof housing
  • 1/3.7" color CMOS image sensor with a 4:3 aspect ratio
  • 640 x 480 (307,200) effective pixels
  • 131° horizontal viewing angle, 103° vertical viewing angle
  • Illumination Range of 1.5 lx to 100,000 lx
  • F=1.34 focal length
  • F=1:2.0 brightness
Note: This rearview camera is meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rearview camera when backing-up. In addition to using the rearview camera, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.

CMOS Images Sensor & Wide-Angle Lens: The Alpine HCE-C1100 is equipped with a 1/3.7" CMOS image sensor with an effective resolution of 640 x 480 (307,200 total pixels). The image sensor offers automatic metering and automatic white balance adjustment for high-quality rearview images. The rearview camera's wide-angle lens has a focal length of f=1.34mm and brightness of f=1:2:0, with a 131° (h) x 103° (v) field of view.

Note: Because this is a wide-angle lens, there is a difference in distance perspective between what is normally seen behind the vehicle and what appears on the screen of your in-dash receiver.

HDR (High Dynamic Range): Thanks to HDR technology, the picture quality is much better compared to regular camera systems, for even better visibility behind your vehicle when backing up, with a high-resolution and high-detail camera image. The HCE-C1100 offers incredible image quality in varying levels of light with a wide illumination range (1.5 to 100,000 Lux). HDR (High Dynamic Range) and automatic fast exposure adjustment eliminates image wash-out common when going from areas of heavy shade into areas with bright sunlight (for example underground parking, tunnels, etc).

Compatibility: The HCE-C1100 rearview camera can be used with Alpine multimedia & navigation receivers which feature a proprietary multi-pin camera input, as well as Alpine & other brands of receivers with a composite video camera input.

  • Proprietary Harness: If you are connecting an Alpine receiver with a proprietary camera input, then use the included 23' harness with proprietary multi-pin connectors on each end (you will not use the composite video harness).
  • Composite Video Harness: If you are connecting an Alpine or other brand of receiver with a composite video jack, you will use both the 23' proprietary harness and the 9.5' composite video harness. This type of installation will also require you to hardwire power & ground.

Weatherproof Housing: The Alpine HCE-C1100 employs a weatherproof (IP67) housing to protect the backup camera from the outdoor elements.

Surface Mount Bracket: The included mounting bracket allows you can be install the backup camera on the rear bumper or by the license plate of your SUV, truck, van, or car. The mounting bracket attaches to the camera with four included machine screws. The mounting bracket also has an adhesive backing, along with four included self-tapping screws to secure the camera to your vehicle. Once mounted, you can adjust and tilt the mounting bracket up or down for the best camera angle and view.

Note: The HCE-C1100 is also compatible with Alpine's KTX-C10LP rearview camera license plate mounting kit (500KTXC10L, sold separately).

Optional Multi-Camera Selector Interface: The optional Alpine KCX-C250MC Multi-Camera Selector Interface (500KCXC250, sold separately) allows as many as three camera systems (Front, Rear, & Side) to be connected to and controlled from select Alpine in-dash navigation receivers.

Q
Will this work with the INE-W987HD? the cameras in the OM are discontinued.
mark  Jul 07, 2023
1 answer
A
This Alpine HCE-C1100 will work with the Alpine INE-W987HD radio, Mark. You will need to make certain that you have the camera adapter originally packaged with the INE-W987HD radio as it does have a proprietary camera input and the adapter is required to connect cameras with a composite video output like the HCE-C1100. If you do not have the original adapter, it can be sourced directly from Alpine at the link below. https://www.pacparts.com

Q
I have an Alpine INA-W910. Can I plug this camera into the "Direct Camera" input (located upper right, next to the yellow I-Pod input) on the HU with the provided harness? My goal is to avoid an adapter. Thanks...
roger wilko  Nov 17, 2022
1 answer
A
The HCE-C1100 would not work in the direct camera input connector for that INA-W910. It uses a 4 pin connecter and the input on that Alpine uses a 5 pin.

Q
What wire do I tap in to to make the reverse camera show up on a 03 Jeep TJ with Apline ILX-F509?
christopher  May 08, 2022
1 answer
A
I installed this on a 2002 or 2003 Toyota Tundra. I simply tapped into +12v wire for the reverse lights on the back right side of the car. As far as I know every car in the US has at least 1 or 2 reverse lights they're usually white in color. On your car I'm not sure but I'd have someone stand behind the car, then put it into reverse and see if there are specific lights that light up when the car is in reverse. Then tap into the +12v line of that light. Alternatively there is probably somewhere under the dash that you can tap into but in my case since I had to run the video wires for the camera to the front of the car anyway it was really easy to just run one extra wire that was connected to the reverse light. Hope this helps!

This camera will not work with the stock radio in your 2006 Ridgeline. At the time of this post, we don't have a camera that will work with the stock radio. That may change in the future so I recommend contacting an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to check our current inventory

Yes it has guide lines. In fact it even has an option if you have a hitch to accommodate that. The lines by default are off but it's easy toggle them on. I have mine hooked up through a alpine unit so I can't speak for it you do plan on using with a different brand.
david  Mar 01, 2019
A
Yes it does
joyce  Mar 01, 2019
A
Yes. You program them to your specific vehicle
walter  Mar 01, 2019
A
I already answered this question no. THen I saw the other answers as yes. I think that some head units have the ability to add guide lines, but not sure they would be very accurate. I also believe that this camera comes in a configuration with the module to add the lines, and possibly cameras for multiple angles, but I am not sure of that. I bought mine from Crutchfield, even though it was available many places....because their product experts are really that, experts at the products they sell. If you call the number and ask they can tell you for sure. Good luck. If you car does not have a camera, you'll really like it after being added. Oh, should have also added. That some cars (especially with OEM radios) need to have a configuration setting turned on for the factory unit to work. Simple thing, can be done in minutes, but the dealer will likely charge you to do that...especially if this is the only reason you are in their service dept. I would expect that the Crutchfield guys can tell you if the RCA type plugs will work with your unit, and if it requires a jump start :-) from the dealer. Good luck.
greg  Mar 01, 2019
A
It has what I would call static guidelines with green, yellow, red bars, which is not perfect but better than nothing.
nabeel  Mar 01, 2019
A
Nope it doesn't. I believe there are modules that you can run this through to add lines, and do other tricks too. I don't think there is an aftermarket that has bending lines (the kind that move when you turn the steering wheel. This is a pretty slick little unit. Clean lines, nice image, nice wire setup for running to the interior of car, and then a separate wire that runs once inside the car to the front of the car. I also used it with the adaptor to switch to the wire input for a Jeep. Worked slick. I mounted it to a bracket other than the one that came with the camera. I'm pretty sure the box is made out of machined aluminum, not molded plastic. Like I said a small, well built unit

Yes it does.

Q
Will this work on a 2015 Jeep Wrangler mounted in the license plate (using Alpine KTX-C10LP) with a compatible headunit? My concern is that the license plate is not centered, so wondering how that affects the display. Thanks!
gonzalo  Jan 11, 2019
1 answer
A
While it can work with the license plate frame mounting bracket, the offset position of the factory plate will not provide the best angle for your rear-view. The HCE-C1100 does come packaged with a surface mount bracket you can use to custom secure the camera in a more centralized location on the back of your vehicle. will this camera work with the new Kenwood DDX9905S?
mav2u  Apr 06, 2018

Yep! The Alpine HCE-C1100 camera features a composite (RCA) video connection which you can use with virtually any brand/model receiver that has a composite video input; including the Kenwood DDX9905S. For more details or to discuss further, please contact an Advisor directly by phone (888.955.6000) or online chat. Hope that helps :)
