About the Alpine PXE-H660
Alpine designed the PXE-H660 System Integration Audio Processor for people who want to create a full car audio system by adding amps and subs, but who don't want to replace the factory stereo. The processor cleans up the output of your factory radio, then applies special IMPRINT sound-shaping technology that tunes your amp and speaker setup to your vehicle. You'll build a great-sounding system, while keeping the look and functionality of your factory radio's dashboard setup, steering wheel controls, and factory extras.
Cleans up your sound
A 512-band equalizer removes the preset EQ curve from your factory radio's output, sending a clean, unequalized signal to your amplifiers through the processor's four sets of preamp outputs. High- and low-pass filters on each output route the right frequencies to each amp, while the 4-volt signal keeps extraneous noise out of your system.
IMPRINT sound tuning technology
The PXE-H660 takes the guesswork out of system setup with its impressive automatic sound tuning feature. Connect the included microphone and place it in your preferred listening position in the vehicle. IMPRINT will analyze the acoustics in each listening position, adjusting the sound so that any seat in the car can be the best seat in the house. You can use either the PXE-H660's controls or a PC loaded with the supplied software for easy system setup and adjustment.
Like to tweak it yourself? No problem you'll find a built-in 3-band parametric equalizer, manual crossover controls, and manual time-correction controls built in as well. You'll retain the use of your factory stereo's volume knob for on-the-fly adjustments.

Overview: The Alpine PXE-H660 System Integration Audio Processor works with almost any radio whether it is factory or aftermarket, to automatically tailor the sound of these sources using advanced acoustic and time correction technologies. Your factory sound system outputs an amplified, equalized and crossed over signal. The PXE-H660 accepts the factory system's input, cleans it up, applies IMPRINT sound technology, and then outputs the clean signals to aftermarket audio components. The PXE-H660 system integration audio processor includes a setup software disc, remote control, and microphone to help match the target sound desired by the Alpine IMPRINT specification automatically. Minor manual adjustments such as parametric equalizer, manual crossover control, and time-correction also can be made to significantly reduce the total time for tuning your sound system.

IMPRINT Technology: The Alpine PXE-H660 System Integration Audio Processor accepts input from nearly any factory or aftermarket radio, removes any existing equalization, and adjusts to overcome acoustic shortcomings of the specific vehicle's interior. IMPRINT technology automatically overcomes the inherent acoustical challenges of your vehicle, and improves the sound stage, tonal balance, and definition, for smoother, natural sound, resulting in a maximized listening experience in all seats.
Speaker-Level or RCA Input: The 5-channel auto ranging input will accept either speaker level or line level inputs. Typically the 5 channels are front left/right, rear left/right, and subwoofer. In addition, 2-way systems with subwoofer (left tweeter/woofer, right tweeter/woofer, and subwoofer) or 2-way full range systems without subwoofers (front left and right) are compatible. If you have an aftermarket head unit with preamp outputs, the RCA input can be used instead.
Auxiliary Input: When the auto ranging speaker-level input is used for the main signal, the RCA inputs can be used for an auxiliary source.
Preamp Outputs: A preamp signal feeds the IMPRINT signal from the PXE-H660 to your aftermarket amplifiers and speakers, allowing a substantial sound quality upgrade. The PXE-H660 has the ability to drive a full-range or two-way front speaker output system configuration. There are seven RCA outputs:
- Left/Right Front (1): high-pass; use for tweeters in a bi-amp front component set
- Left/Right Front (2): band-pass or high-pass; band-pass for woofers in a bi-amp front component set or high-pass for a component set (not bi-amp) or full range speakers
- Left/Right Rear: high-pass; rear speakers
- Sub: single subwoofer output jack
Auto Ranging Input: The input to the PXE-H660 is equipped with an auto-ranging circuit. This keeps the DSP input at a constant level for better noise immunity and signal processing. Once connected, the first step in the automatic calibration is measuring and compensating for the factory output so each channel is at the correct level. Before starting, the balance and the fader are centered, and the volume is set to the maximum undistorted volume level (the volume on the factory radio is left here, future volume adjustments are made using the PXE-H660's remote control).
Microphone: The PXE-H660's included microphone must be placed in four different positions inside the car, allowing the unit to automatically optimize the system's sound quality.
AntEQ: Playing the included setup disc, the AntEQ analyzes the factory radio output relative to the fixed test sound patterns, and removes any equalization; creating a flat, full range signal.
Audyseey MultEQ: After the AntEQ has created a baseline (flat) input signal, the Audyssey MultEQ uses the setup disc and included microphone to measure the effect the car has on the test track output. Audyssey MultEQ uses more than 500 control points along the frequency spectrum. This optimizes the sound reproduction to the specific vehicle listening environment with much greater precision. Absorption by soft surfaces, reflection by hard surfaces, and delay caused by speaker placement are measured at several listening positions (4 minimum, 8 maximum). Once the data are collected, an EQ curve is created to correct the coloring of the sound by the car's interior and each channel (up to seven) is time aligned to optimize the image at the first two listening positions (the first two positions are memorized as user presets). Optimum crossover points (if needed) are also measured and saved for each channel.
Sound Customization: You can further tailor the sound to your personal taste after the Audyssey MultEQ has corrected for the listening environment. Each channel has a 3-band parametric equalizer, additional time correction, and crossover adjustments.
Equalizer: The EQ is adjusted for each channel individually and separate curves are memorized for the Auto Ranging and Aux inputs:
- Level: the three bands range +/-6 dB in 1 dB increments
- Q: the width of the EQ band is adjustable from 0.5 to 2.0 in 0.5 steps
- Frequency: the center frequency each EQ band is adjustable:
- Bass: 30, 40, 50, 60, 80, 100, 125, or 150 Hz
- Midrange: 500, 750, 1k, 1.5k, 2k, 3k, 4k, or 5kHz
- Treble: 6k, 7.5k, 10k, 12.5k, 15k, or 17.5kHz
Crossover: Each set of preamp outputs (Front 1, Front 2, Rear, and Sub) has an adjustable crossover:
- Front 1: this high-pass tweeter output is only used if you bi-amp the front component speakers; adjustable from 200 Hz to 5 kHz, the slope is 12 dB/octave
- Front 2:
- Bi-amp: when you bi-amp the front speakers this becomes a band-pass crossover; HPF: 200 Hz to 5 kHz, LPF: 40 Hz to 200 Hz, both 12 dB/octave
- Not bi-amp: when you don't bi-amp the front speakers this is a high-pass crossover; 40 Hz to 200 Hz and 12 dB/octave
- Rear: high-pass crossover; 40 Hz to 200 Hz, 12 dB/octave
- Subwoofer: low-pass crossover; 40 Hz to 200 Hz, 12 or 24 dB/octave
Time Delay: Each of the seven output channels can have additional signal delay assigned; 0 to 10ms in 0.1ms steps.
Note: If you bi-amp the front component speakers, each tweeter and each woofer is time aligned individually.
PC Control: The USB port on the PXE-H660 is used for PC control interface.
IR Input: Regardless of the unit's installation location, the included remote sensor can be mounted in a convenient location and wired to the PXE-H660.
Wired Remote Input: Like on many Alpine head units, there is a 3.5mm input for compatible steering wheel remote adapters.
Power: An automatic signal sensing circuit turns on the processor along with your radio. When the input signal is absent for 5 minutes, the system turns off.
