About the Alpine S-W10D4

Great bass in less space

To create great bass, you need the best in materials and engineering. Alpine's S-Series subwoofers apply technology from their higher end subs to bring you the depth and punch that'll make your tunes come alive. And to make things even better, these subs are about an inch shallower than their predecessors, making them great candidates for locations where regular high-power subs won't fit.

Advanced materials

The S-W10D4 10" sub can handle up to 600 watts RMS, so you can drive it hard without any worries. The tough Kevlar® treated cone stays rigid under pressure, while its rubber High Amplitude Multi-Roll (HAMR) surround enables maximum excursion for impressive performance. Its dual 4-ohm voice coils allow for extra wiring flexibility, which helps if you plan on adding another subwoofer down the line. Also, it rocks in both sealed and ported boxes, so you can choose an enclosure that suits your tastes.

Features

Kevlar Reinforced Pulp Cone: This Alpine S-Series subwoofer uses a parabolic cone structure, with a Kevlar reinforced pulp cone and a Poly-Mica-Talc dust cap. Kevlar adds strength and tear resistance to the woofer cone while maintaining the benefits of a pulp cone material. The oversized, inverted dust cap increases rigidity and virtually eliminates cone distortion at extreme volume levels.

HAMRS: The woofer features a High Amplitude Multi Roll Surround (HAMRS) that allows a large linear excursion and greater SPL. The HAMRS design allows extreme excursions without sacrificing valuable cone area.

Progressive Spider: The progressive spider has reinforced layer tinsel leads to ensure reliable and consistent control of the tinsel leads and eliminate any mechanical noise or interference often seen in high excursion cone designs.

Compound Radius Curve Pole Geometry: Alpine's Patented Compound Radius Curve extended pole geometry ensures a symmetrical magnetic field, while optimizing flux density to reduce distortion and further improve power handling and output.

Dual Voice Coils: For system flexibility, the woofer has two 4Ω voice coils. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 2Ω load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents an 8Ω load.

Spring Terminals: The spring post terminals are all located on one side of the woofer. The terminals will accept pin connectors, single banana plugs, or bare wire up to 8 gauge.

Jumpers: Included with the woofer are two voice coil terminal jumpers. These jumpers allow you to easily wire the voice coils in parallel (for a 2Ω load) or series (for an 8Ω load).

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box: Alpine recommends a sealed enclosure with an internal volume between 0.45 and 0.9 cubic feet, with an ideal volume of 0.58 cubic feet. Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer, will handle a lot of power, and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music.

Ported Box Volume: The recommended ported box volume ranges from 0.8 cubic feet to 1.35 cubic feet, with the ideal size being 1.13 cubic feet, using a slot port measuring 10" (W) x 1" (H) x 17" (L).

Q
is this compatible with a pioneer gm-a3702?
kevin m  Dec 30, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings K, and thank you for your question. The Pioneer GM-A3702 would not have the power to effectively run a Type S Alpine subwoofer. It is a 2 channel that can be bridged to put out 190 watts, but the subwoofer has to be wired to 4 ohms. This subwoofer would be wired to 2 ohms. That would make the amp go into protect mode, besides that sub would like to get 600 watts. just not a good combination.

I have a pioneer 8601 rms700. Will that setup be ok?

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp/sub combo I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the sub models and help you make the best choice for your system.

Q
will this sub work in a .8 sealed box or tube that has a passive radiator?
j  Jul 28, 2021
1 answer
A
Yes, if its strictly bass you want on those 8's, the 10 hit a bit harder, but either way you will be pleasantly surprised JK.

Q
Will my jbl club a600 amplifier be a good match for this alpine s-w10d4 at 2 ohms? If so how would I wire them to stay at 2 ohms?
antonio  Jul 27, 2021
1 answer
A
Yes, the JBL Club A600 should be a good match for the Alpine S-W10d4. The sub has dual 4 ohm voice coils; therefore, it needs to be wired in parallel. The sub will come with wiring instructions, but in general, + and - from the amp to the speaker with the "jumpers" installed to the other voice coil. This arrangement should be 600 watts RMS at 2 ohms.

Q
Would this be a suitable replacement for the alpine sbs-1041bp?
ray  Jun 16, 2021
2 answers
A
After some research, the quick answer is yes. The dimensions appear to work for the Alpine S-W10D4, but the big difference is that the original sub is a single voice coil while the S-W10D4 is a dual voice coil. You'll have to check the amplifier settings and wire it either in series or parallel based on its ability to power the sub. I recommend having a mono amp with approximately 400 watts RMS at 2 ohms.
jason  Jun 16, 2021
A
This subwoofer will fit perfectly, however the power ratings are triple (600rms) of the Alpine sbs-1041bp (200rms). Therefore you would need at least double the power from your amplifier to provide enough power for optimal use. Also, the box may need to be upgraded in the future.

Q
Would a 500w rms amp match well with this sub?
trey  Jun 02, 2021
2 answers
A
That's what I'm using and I'm well pleased.
kelly  Jun 02, 2021
A
I would certainly think so. We run a 350watt 2ohm stabile amplifier to a single speaker in a ported box and it kicks plenty hard enough for us in a small SUV.
rebecca  Jun 02, 2021
Q
is this sub suitable for a free air application?
eric  Apr 21, 2021

A
No, my understanding is that it requires an enclosure, sealed, or ported for proper performance.

Q
Would this sub fit a fox box from fox acoustics that has 4.5 mounting depth with 6.5" magnet?
mitchell  Feb 08, 2021
3 answers
A
If the mounting depth is only 4.5" then it won't fit. The Alpine sub has a depth of 4 11/16. You might want to look at the Alpine Truck subwoofer. It's 4 3/16". But that would only leave 5/16" from the magnet to your box. You might want to look into more of the true shallow mount subs that are less than 4".
jason  Feb 10, 2021
A
Call Crutchfield
james  Feb 08, 2021
A
Dude no, if you had read the product information you'd know the mounting depth of the sub from the top is 4.7 inches so unless you have a spacer or something.
yanni  Feb 08, 2021
Q
Would these match up good to a Alpine S-A60MS-Series mono subwoofer amplifier â?? 600 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms? If so how would I wire them to stay at 2 ohms?
stephan  Nov 16, 2020
1 answer
A
This subwoofer will work with the Alpine amp listed. The voicecoils should be wired in parallel to combine to a 2 ohm load for the amp.

Q
I have a sealed box to go under my seat in my Dodge Ram extended cab. What would be the best amp to pair with 2 of these?
roy  Jul 05, 2020
3 answers
A
I installed a JBL stage 3001 amplifier to power 1 sub at 2 ohms utilizing the dual voice coil option on the sub. With that power, and that configuration, it fills a small suv with plenty of tight bass response. I'm not sure what the best bet is for your car with two speakers but, if you keep the power around 300 watts each, I'm sure it will sound great!
rebecca  Jul 06, 2020
A
The Alpine S-W10D4 have dual 4 ohm voice coils; therefore, I would pair them with something that can provide at least 1000 watts RMS. 500W per sub. You may consider two of the Alpine S-A60 amps which put out 600 watts RMS at 2 ohms, which is perfect for the one sub.
jason  Jul 06, 2020
A
I am using a Rockford 1200 watt mono sub amp. Works perfectly. Plenty of headroom and a nice clean sound.

What amp should I run with this sub?
james  Jun 29, 2020

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.

Q
I have a Pioneer Gm-d9705 would this sub be a good fit for the sub channel if wired at 2 ohms?
alfredo  May 02, 2020
1 answer
A
Yes, this would be a perfect match. The amp will output 600w rms at 2 ohm and the sub will handle 600w rms.
randal  May 03, 2020
Q
would the Alpine S-W10D4 S-Series 10" subwoofer with dual 4-ohm voice coils match with Planet Audio® - Pulse Series Class AB Mono 1500W Amplifier?
billy  Apr 15, 2020

A
that PA amp isn't certified and won't do rated power. The alpine sub is capable with a solid amp. I used the alpine mvr-500 with the s-w10d4.

Would my alpine mvr 500 mono handle this speaker?

Q
what is one amplifier that can handle 3 of Alpine S-W10D4?
neil  Feb 13, 2019

The type s is 600w rms so you're going to want around 2000w rms for 3 subs. I'm running one 10" on a 1000w @1ohm stable mtx thunder 1001.1.

Hi Neil, Delayed response, sorry about that. I did a lot of research, but am not an expert, so take this with a grain of salt. I wanted subs for my Sierra truck without compromising the rear seating. I found a custom box that fits perfectly under my rear seat, but because of the lack of space, I had to find subs that would complement my box. These Alpines were PERFECT. As for the power plant, I was given an amp for christmas. So Although the amp works great, Crutchfield does not sell that particular amp. I got lucky. If you are buying the amp from Crutchfield, you should contact them. Their support is impeccable. You have to consider so many things to build the correct solution. Box air space is key. Do you already have a box? Any way, back to your question, I dont know what you should go with, but sticking with the same manufacturer is never a bad thing. And let me say this.... These speakers are clear and hit hard. If your into long deep rock your head hip hop bass, you might want to look at kicker, but if you like the bass to be clear and responsive, these are the right ones to get! Good luck Neil!

I am currently running 2 of the s-w10d4's and I'm running them on a Memphis 1000d which runs them hard at a 1 ohm load... This amp is capable of running a 1, 2, and 4 ohm load depending on how you have your subs wired.
