Amazing bass for so little money!

I replaced Pioneer's shallow mount subs for a pair of these beasties installed in the front doors of my 2010 Hyundai Elantra. They are mounted in a sealed enclosure of about 0.3 cubic feet. My installer had to make a 1" 'tall' adapter ring to account for the greater depth of the Alpine subs compared to the Pioneer subs they replaced. The Alpines are driven by the rear channels of an Alpine PDX4.150 amplifier which delivers 164 watts rms @ 4 ohms according to its 'birth certificate' from Alpine. I was completely gobsmacked by the difference so much so that I believe most folks would do just fine without a trunk-mounted sub. No way could I say that about the Pioneer subs. The bass notes hit VERY HARD and CLEAN even on the most demanding musical formats. They play well with any kind of music be it rock, jazz, classical or folk; maybe not quite enough for rap, hip-hop or bass heads looking to compete in SPL drag competition. A fave demo for me is the fourth movement of Rimsky-Korsakov's "Sheherazade". The tympani beats during the 'storm scene' fairly shake the car to pieces. Absent the cost of providing sealed enclosures I rate these subs a tremendous bargain at regular price; the current sale price makes these an even more compelling reason to buy them and take back ALL of your trunk space 'cause you'll probably not feel or hear the need for a trunk-mounted sub.
Pros: Don't let the 83 dB sensitivity scare you off. These play LOUD and CLEAN with only middlin' clean amplifier power.
Cons: They do require sealed enclosures; probable cost about $500 per door. But you get ALL of the 'bass up front' and ALL of your trunk space if you don't need a trunk-mounted sub.

Power Hungry Little Beast
Crutchfield customer from DUNBAR, NE on 12/6/2019
You've heard of "adult bass" - well, meet "mid-life crisis bass" I was worried I'd be disappointed with a single 8 inch sub, but not anymore. This is a beast of a little sub if you can feed it enough juice. Bass drum hits are mean and tight, and it digs very well for an 8. Has excellent balance too - the same audio settings sound great from Mozart to Lizzo. It's not going to rattle your teeth or make your butt numb, but it also won't bother the neighbors when you leave for work early. Everyone that has ridden with me is impressed by it, especially when they find out how small this beast is. I chose this subwoofer because it is the biggest sub I could fit in my single cab truck without sliding the seat from where I like it. It's in a .35 cu. ft. sealed box with a double baffle. It's hooked to a 425 RMS Watt MTX amp, which is just enough to keep up with the full range speakers powered only by the head unit - yes, the 83dB sensitivity of this sub means it needs lots of power to perform. But all that power gives it tight control over the music and plenty of punch for the kid in you. I would have given this sub five stars, but the rear spring connectors didn't fit the wire size advertised and the build quality is cheaper than I expected from Alpine, but I am extremely satisfied. Thanks to Crutchfield and their technical write-ups in helping me choose this subwoofer. The customer service is also the best I've ever dealt with and I won't look anywhere else for new electronic gear.
Pros: Good Excursion, Hidden Fastener Mounting
Cons: Spring connectors only fit 12GA wire

I bought this to replace my older Alpine subwoofer Type R fits right in the box easy hook up. This sounds just like the other one gives me just enough bass to enjoy all of my music.
Pros: Easy hook up
