About the Rockford Fosgate P3D2-10

Standout performance

The aluminum cone acts as a giant heat sink, directing heat away from the copper-clad aluminum voice coils. Special venting keeps the voice coils cool, so you get incredibly consistent bass performance over time. This P3 sub features an extended pole piece and bumped backplate that leaves more room for heavy excursion, so it'll hit deeper lows without "bottoming out."

Standout performance

Rockford Fosgate showcases their fanatical commitment to sonic excellence in the Punch Series of speakers, amps, and subs. If you like to listen to potent, powerful music — and feel it too — Punch components will give you impressive sound that'll stand out in a crowd.

Exploded view

Designed for deeper, louder bass

Rockford Fosgate designed the P3D2-10 10" subwoofer to stay strong even when the bass gets hot. This Punch P3 sub features a rigid anodized aluminum cone that holds its shape through heavy play, while staying light and responsive. Rockford Fosgate uses a new technique to attach the oversized rubber surround to the cone that increases available cone area up to 25%, so this sub can push more air for even bigger bass.

Heat-sink cone

The aluminum cone acts as a giant heat sink, directing heat away from the copper-clad aluminum voice coils. Special venting keeps the voice coils cool, so you get incredibly consistent bass performance over time. This P3 sub features an extended pole piece and bumped backplate that leaves more room for heavy excursion, so it'll hit deeper lows without "bottoming out."

The dual 2-ohm voice coils allow you to wire the sub for 1-ohm impedance to get maximum power output, or for 4-ohm impedance if you're using multiple subs. The P3D2-10 sub works equally well in a sealed or ported enclosure, so you can choose the kind of bass you want for your system.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 375 and 750 watts RMS at 4 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

Very musical subs (compared to 10 year old pioneers). Would like a little more ouput, but I might get that with some fine tuning or a different box. Have 2 running off 900 watt JBL amp in sealed box.

Pros: Musical Fit and finish

Awesome subs. Bought two of these little beasts to match my Alpine MRP1000 amp. They don't disappoint. These things really do hit hard. In a sealed cabinet, 1.15 cu ft per sub, with the gain cranked full on the hardest bass hits, these things do not bottom out. They just rock the entire car. Plus they sound great at any level. If you want a hard hitting solid built sub with great SQ, buy the P3s.

Pros: Excellent performance. Reasonable price. Very well built.

Cons: None I can think of.

I had a set of JL for a few years and one finally blew.... I got on the chat with crutchfield and recommended these and boy and boy going to Duel Voice Could made a huge difference. These speakers THUMP and mellow out and blend in depends on the music... I was Leary spending the money but we'll worth it I had a set of RF 10s in the 90s and they lasted for a long time... I hope these stand up and put up with me... been installed for over a week and I haven't really turned it up but soon I will

Pros: The name equals quality

Cons: None

Killer Bass!

I was in the market for a new set of subs. I was trying to do my research and find the perfect sub but nowadays there're so many options that it's hard to make a choice. After reaching out to Crutchfield team support ( Hogan) was able to point me in the right direction. After receiving my subs my first impression was that they were well built. These subs look amazing and after hooking them up to my Amp Wow, they came to life. Damn these subs can hit, they don't miss a beat. I was glad I followed Hogan's recommendation. Can't go wrong with these subs and the price is right.

Pros: Great quality sub and The price is right..

Cons: The only down fall that I have with these subs is that they don't add the protecting Mesh Grille. These Mesh grille should come standard with the sub.

These subs are not super expensive and do the trick. I bought 2 and have them running at 900 watts and they are rediculous. They came in great packaging and made it to my house a day early. For the price you can't beat them.

I ran two these on 2 ohm powered by the Rockford fosgate R500X1D. Bass quality was richer and fuller than I expected. Had run high watt boss 10"s before and they simply can't compete. Worth every penny of your looking for quality but don't want to drop 1000s.

Product Research

Features
Enclosure Compatibility

Features

Overview: The Rockford Fosgate Punch P3D2-10 is a 10-inch subwoofer with dual 2Ω voice coils. The sub features a hybrid StampCast basket, quick-release compression terminals, anodized aluminum cone, and Santoprene surround. An anodized aluminum voice coil former and spider venting help keep the subwoofer cool.

Dual 2Ω Voice Coils: The dual 2Ω voice coils offer wiring flexibility; when wired in parallel the woofer presents a 1Ω load, when wired in series the woofer presents a 4Ω load.

Compression Terminals: The P3D2-10 features spring post terminals which accommodate pin connectors, single banana plugs, or bare speaker wire up to 10 gauge.

CEA-2031 Compliant: Power handling on the P3D2-10 subwoofer conforms to CEA-2031 industry standards. This means the subwoofer has the capacity to handle power under continuous demand, not instantaneous power handling, that over time, can damage voice coils.

FlexFit Basket: The Flex Fit frame utilizes slots (where possible) instead of single screw sized holes; allowing slight adjustment of the speaker when mounted.

Trim Ring: To improve the cosmetic look, a decorative trim ring is included that mounts over the flange of the woofer. When using the cast aluminum trim ring the woofer is first mounted with four screws, then the ring is placed on top of the woofer, aligning the final four holes of the woofer with ring. The other four screws are used for these holes to mount the ring and woofer to the enclosure. Without the trim ring the mounting height of the woofer is just under an inch, with the trim ring it's approximately 1-1/16 inches. The diameter of the trim ring is approximately 11-1/4 inches.

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box: Rockford recommends a sealed enclosure with an optimum internal volume of 0.59 cubic feet (from 0.5 to 0.75 cubic feet is acceptable). Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer, will handle a lot of power, and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music.

Ported Box: Rockford recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume of 1.4 cubic feet using one 4" diameter x 14" long port; this yields a tuning frequency of 40 Hz. Ported (or vented) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. However, this efficiency comes at the expense of very low frequency output (below 31 Hz).

Uhm picked the the P3D2 cause I know punch is the better series. 2 ohm to fit my amp. Cause it's to compete with the wonderful alpine type-r. Jon said so. And it was a great price for me. And to complete my Rocksford set up. [ Kevin  Jul 24, 2016 ]

Q
I have two Rockford Fosgate P3 d 2 - 10 how would I wire them to 2 Prime 500 watt mono amplifiers?
[ Craig  Apr 07, 2019 ]
4 answers
A
Wire each sub to 2-ohm per amp. 2-ohms will get you the most from the subs without any issue.
[ Nathaniel T.  Apr 07, 2019 ]
A
Just wire each amp to one sub at 2 ohms.
[ John  Apr 07, 2019 ]
A
The capability of the amp is the only issue. Do you want the subs at one ohm or 2? 2 ohm is the most common. You would just look up 2 ohm dvc wiring. There is a diagram in right here on crutchfield that will help you.
[ John  Apr 07, 2019 ]
A
Since that amp isnt 1 ohm stable you would have to wire each sub to represent a 4ohm load then each amp would only produce 300 watts to each sub. In my opinion this isnt an ideal set up but if its all you got then i would suggest seing about trading both amps in and getting 1 1000 watt mono block amp
[ Bannon  Apr 07, 2019 ]
Q
Would the Prime 1,200 Watt Class-D Mono Amplifier be a good match for two P3D2-10 subs?
[ Shawn  Dec 23, 2018 ]
1 answer
A
Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.

Q
Can three P3D2 10 inch subs be wired together on a alpine 1800 watt amp. I think my buddy wired them down to .33 ohm and the amp overheats. Is that the reason?
[ Charles  Oct 22, 2018 ]
2 answers
A
Yes. You have to wire them for 2 ohm
[ joey  Oct 26, 2018 ]
A
That would certainly be the reason, If that amp isn't stable to run .33 ohms. There are different wiring schemes that would allow you to run 3, and not drop the ohms below what the amp can handle.
[ Beau  Oct 26, 2018 ]
Q
Can I wire three of these together?
[ Charles  Oct 22, 2018 ]
4 answers
A
Yes just series each sub then wire them in parallel for 1.33 ohm
[ Bannon  Oct 28, 2018 ]
A
I don't believe they are 1 ohm stable
[ joey  Oct 26, 2018 ]
A
You can. Providing you have a amp that can power all 3 of them. Wonderful speaker!
[ John  Oct 23, 2018 ]
A
Yes you can wire 3 together. The only catch is to make sure your amplifier is capable of handling a 1.3 ohm load. You would wire each subs in a series parallel configuration. If your amplifier is only capable of 2 ohm load, you may look at purchasing 3 of the P3D4-10's. Same configuration would give you a 2.6 ohm load. Rockford Fosgate has excellent tech support, and will be able to tell you how to configure the subs wiring.

I have a 2400 kicker amp is it to much for two of these in a ban pass box?

Q
Can the P3D2 be wired to 1 ohm like I did my P2D4?
[ NickSchmit  Sep 03, 2017 ]
3 answers
A
If only a single one is wired then yes but with two it splits to a .5 resistance and not a 1
[ Adam  Sep 03, 2017 ]
A
+ to+ -to- in parallel on a dual 2 ohms sub is 1 ohm so if it's a single sub that will work
[ Tracy  Sep 03, 2017 ]
A
Yes you can if you have 2 subs look it up on Google it will show you how to hook up two dual 2 ohms subs
[ Tracy  Sep 03, 2017 ]
Q
If I buy only one of these, can I just hook it up to a 2 ohm amp?
[ Ajw7861  May 31, 2015 ]
1 answer
A
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: With the P3D2-10 you cannot wire it to a 2-ohm load. You could only wire it to a 4-ohm load (series) or a 1-ohm load (parallel). To be able to get a 2-ohm load you would need the dual 4-ohm voice coil version of that subwoofer the P3D4-10. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
