Plus, Prime speakers are a great way to get Rockford Fosgate sound quality without destroying your bank account.

Better components give you better detail

The Prime R1675-S component speaker system sports stiff mica-injected 6-3/4" polypropylene woofers that deliver strong drums and bass, along with clean reproduction of the midrange frequencies. The separate Mylar tweeters add the excitement of strong high-frequency response to your music without a trace of harshness. Built-in crossover networks divide the frequencies going to each driver, so all your music plays faithfully. Grilles are included.

Note: The oversized terminals on these speakers won't connect to a Crutchfield wiring harness. A free 10-pack of female quick slides that you can splice onto our harness will be included with your speaker purchase.

Installation note: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.

These are a awesome bang for your buck product. They are a wonderful replacement for anyone who wants to spend a little extra money for a better quality speaker compared to the cheap ones in the big box stores. Keep in mind you will need some way of securing the tweeter if you're using factory grills. You could use hot glue but I ended up just using pieces of Dynamat to hold it in place. The tweaters are definitely prominent but with a little fine tuning they sound wonderful.

Pros: Budget friendly, easy to install

I installed these speakers in the front doors of my 2011 Silverado and run them off a Sony WX-GS920BH (45W RMS per channel). I had previously installed RF Prime 3 way speakers in that location but, thanks to the tweeters in the pillars, that setup sounded "over-tweeted" no matter how I tuned it. These woofers added the low and mid-range fullness I was looking for. They pump out respectable bass for their size and mid-range reproduction is rich and full. Drums and vocals sound awesome. I listen to a bit of everything from country to classical and these speakers are never out of their element.

Excellent and Affordable Upgrade Speaker

Crutchfield customer from Fredericktown, MO on 8/20/2018

2008 Chevrolet Silverado

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

These speakers sound great for the price and power rating. Very solid upgrade from any factory car audio. These speakers can take some pretty serious power and sound great without distorting, cracking or popping. Highs can get a little harsh, but nothing a little EQ can't take care of. Solid 8/10 for a VERY affordable mid-grade speaker.

Pros: Great speaker, solid performance, can take some serious power.

Cons: So far as the sound fidelity is concerned, the tonal range is good, but not anything life-changing.

My stock component speakers included a midrange tweeter in the dash and paper cone woofers in the door. Installed the Rockford's and music is clean with nice bass. I had to place my phone back to flat eq instead of treble boost because of the great new tweeters. I can hear things that I couldn't hear with the stock speakers. I would have given five stars if Crutchfield had supplied speaker wire adapters for the tweeters too. Crutchfield, component speaker systems have two to three speakers so the same number of speaker wire adapters would be nice. Extended my install because I had to solde into the factory speaker wires instead of clipping them in.

Pros: Efficient. Works well with stock stereo Clean sound Nice tight bass Many options for tweeter installation

Cons: Not much

Bright highs and bumping lows

Scott from Bothell, WA on 4/7/2018

2003 Subaru Forester

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I installed these in my 2003 Subaru Forester front doors and upper tweets to the stock HU. They sound great! Highs are nice and bright and the lows are pretty good and that is without a subwoofer. I did not add any baffles and the install was easy for the most part. Only challenge was figuring out the metro spacers that came with the package deal Crutchfield sent me. There were no directions accompanying the spacers so I had to just figure it out. Fairly straight forward but a small write up on the Crutchfield website would be nice. I had to break off some of the internal ring tabs to get the speakers to meet up with the mounting surface of the speakers. Once that was dealt with everything lined up nice. I mounted the adapter to the door first, attached the speaker wires and then mounted the speakers. I did have to drill new holes into the adapter to mount the speakers but that was easy. So far so good and now want to upgrade the rear door speakers.

Pros: Great sound, better than expected!

Cons: Speaker adapters had another vehicle model listed and caused concern. Also no directions included.

Significant Upgrade Over OEM/Poor Fit

Anthony from Baltimore, MD on 12/12/2017

2012 Ford Focus

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Decided to upgrade my speakers before adding an amp, so I was worried that a set of component speakers would not get enough power from my OEM head unit. I am happy to report that these sound significantly better than the factory speakers. Can't wait to hear how they sound with a 50w amp. Having said that, the other reviewers are correct about the fitment ordeal. I don't know if Rockford Fosgate or Metra is at fault, but these things do not fit the mounting bracket. I was able to bend the brackets enough to screw the speakers to them; but then the bent brackets were off from the door panel holes. I made it work, but I had to angle the screws and I'm pretty sure the plastic ring on my door is a little stripped. Might just make my own next time around.

Pros: Works great with factory stereo, reasonable price.

Cons: Bad fit with mounting bracket.

2013 Ford Focus

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Quite disappointing for Rockford.Sound is equal to stock at best. I guess Ford is just that much better now. Mounting hardware had to be ground to fit to the speaker chassis and then had to drill my own holes to line up with the speaker holes. Tweeter does not come with wiring adapter which means you will have to cut factory wiring which defeats the purpose of going through Crutchfield. I'm going to look into return policy but i'm not optimistic since they have been installed and mounting brackets have been altered. By the way, these were recommended by the Crutchfield rep and that is why I bought them. I will do my own research next time.

Pros: Shipping was fast

Cons: Mounting hardware is wrong only half of the wiring is included by Crutchfield

Great clarity and upgrade from factory speakers. Replaced non Boston Acoustic sound system, front doors of a 5th Gen Camaro. Wife can even hear the difference and she's not too observant when it comes to speaker changes. Tweeters were more compact than OEM tweeters but are much cleaner and you can hear separation better between channels. Very efficient as well.

Pros: Good clean and efficient sound.

Cons: You need to be creative when replacing tweeters and have some experience with speaker adapters. This is true of any replacement speakers that have a separate tweeter location and OEM brackets built into original speakers.

Decent speaker for the price. Maybe on par with the factory speakers (before they dry rotted) in my Toyota Tundra. Installation challenging due to the speakers not fitting the mounting brackets that Crutchfield supplied (not sure if the misfit was due to the speaker or the bracket). Other than that pretty straightforward to install.

Installed at the front door and dash location of a 2014 Silverado Z71 with non Bose 8" stereo package with a Kicker VSS sub upgrade. Installed RF Punch in the rear doors of the crew cab same day. Component tweeters I'd prefer to have a better mounting option with brackets or pods, but created a perfectly centered and solid mount in the cavity left by the stock tweeters. Other than this small problem, I couldn't be more happy with the resulting sound and clarity produced with the whole RF setup and Kicker provided bass.

A solid clean sounding set of affordable separates.

Pros: Clean crisp sound in mids and highs. Build quality seems good. Grills are handsome even though I didn't use them.

Cons: Low end response could use more punch. Ideal for a car with a separate sub. Wiring rear speakers needs a soldering iron or a way to tie multiple junctions together.

Wow, these speaker are such a huge improvement over the OE speakers. I ran out of time and ran my new radio for a few days with the stock speakers before I could replace them. Frankly, my singing was better than the OEM speakers, but these were a better option (for my wife's ears). My advice is to not get these if you do not have the ability to adjust the EQ - those little guys will burst your eardrums with their highs! All in all, I'm happy with the purchase and would have given them a 5/5, if it weren't for the diminished mids;

Pros: Cheap, easy to install, and great sound with some tweaking

Nice Upgrade

Very pleased with the end result, although there were some challenges with the install. One of the tweeters had a wire that was barely connected to the terminal and it came apart during the install. I decided to solder it instead of doing a return, and it worked out. The tweeters were tricky to mount in the door of my S2000, which was clearly noted by Crutchfield, but I bought them anyway due to the positive reviews. But the work was worth it; they sound excellent.

Pros: Decent bass. Clean, clear sound. Great price too. The ratings tell the story.

Cons: Tweeters were tricky to install.

Very Good Speakers for the Price

These Rockford Fosgate speakers are a significant upgrade over my factory speakers. To be fair, that is not saying much as they were 17 years old and one of the speakers (driver side door) was blown. Installation took me quite a while because I had never done it before and taking the door panels off took some time. Now that I have done it, it will go much quicker the next time. I did encounter a snag with the speakers not fitting the bracket that came with my vehicle. However, I removed the bracket and mountyed the speakers right into the steel of the door with ease. Crutchfield's directions and phone tech support were AMAZING!!! I called a few times with questions as I worked on the installation and they were always prompt, courteous and thorough. They walked me through everything and even have access to information about my car's factory original wiring configuration. This proved invaluable with my tweeter installation On that note, that is one watch out. If you opt for separates (a separate tweeter location, which was stock for my vehicle and does help better direct the high frequencies), be prepared for some challenges with location, placement and possible custom fabrication. I am still working through some aesthetic challenges with my tweeters, but it is worth it for the sound upgrade and I will take my time to make it look as nice as possible. Do know that bass is limited. A separate sub and/or higher end speakers will give you more, but I am pleased.

Pros: Good sound. Excellent build quality. Built-in cross-over adds to ease of installation. Excellent instructions. Amazing Crutchfield tech support

Cons: Bass is limited and gets muddy if pushed.

They have a good mid range and bass and better than coaxial speakers. I had some Kicker 6 3/4 good clarity but the sound was low . I haven't replaced my factory tweeters but I'm about soon since my drivers side is blown and my passenger side is about to go out after installing these speakers and testing them out

Pros: Better sound than coaxial speakers and component speakers is the way to go if your vehicle already equipped with them

Cons: you will have to drill into your door shell to mount this speakers and tweeters in the door panel if you don't want to run the line up to front pillars to replace

Easy to install and a perfect fit! I was able to cutout the factory tweeter panels and replace them with the Rockford Fosgate grills for a GREAT look! Other than those little tweeter grills there are is no other way to know that I have aftermarket speakers so it is a very nice stock looking installation. The connections were simple with no issues. I did have to spend some money for some mounting hardware in order for me to use the Universal Mounting Strips that Crutchfield sells but that's for another review. The speakers perform great and have made me very happy!

Pros: Great Sound Easy Installation Great Look

Cons: Speakers did not fit Crutchfield supplied brackets. Had to do some modifications to get a decent fit. I blame that on the bracket not the speaker.

Speakers good, install not so much

The speakers themselves are very good. I got them "scratch and dent" and honestly I could not find a problem with them - nothing missing that I needed, even still wrapped in plastic. The sound is very good for a more inexpensive speaker. Bass is significantly better than OEM, tweeters slightly less so but still very good. Many complaints about the bass but I find it fine for what I listen to. Clarity is good and they handle volume from the factory stereo well. I don't have an amp but may get one in the future. I put in some soundproofing as well and I would highly recommend doing so when installing these. The installation instructions provided were helpful but the install proved too much for an amateur like me. I planned on spending 2-3 hours on the whole project and after that time barely had one door done. After several broken panel clips, and lacking proper screws to fit the adapter bracket to the door (plus the fact that I had inadvertently tripped off the hybrid system when I disconnected the battery so the car wouldn't start afterwards) I called my mechanic. I just didn't have the time to put in to this project that I thought I did. Would I buy these again? Yes. Look at the OEM speakers and you'll laugh. But I would definitely say lesson learned on the install. If you are doing it yourself and new to installing speakers and removing/replacing trim panels take your time and plan on a whole day, possibly a weekend, along with a few trips to the local hardwa

Pros: - good sound - "scratch and dent" deal was great - significant improvement over the OEM speakers

Cons: - installation time consuming and frustrating

This is an absolute slam dunk for a factory replacement speaker. These get the job done and are a noticeable improvement over the paper cones that they replace. The mids and highs are much, much improved and so much easier to listen to at the volumes you need during regular driving speeds.

Pros: Just a smart move to improve your listening pleasure during your daily driving.

Cons: For their use, there are no cons.

An outstanding improvement to the factory base stereo for very little investment in time and money. The Rockford mids alone are at least three times heavier than the cheaply constructed originals, and addition of tweeters really opened up the sound. Big improvement in bass as well without boominess.

Pros: An inexpensive and relatively easy install, and the first step for further improvements

Cons: Speaker manual is a little vague on some key issues, example, how do you remove the tweeters from the flush mounts and install them in the surface mounts?

Sounds decent, bought these for my 11 tahoe front doors and oem tweeter location, but someone at Crutchfield messed up with information, info page on page lists tweeter at 1/2", when actual measurement is 1 1/2in, with mount it's 1 7/8in

Pros: Sound

Cons: Tweeter size

Crutchfield response on 6/18/2014
The listed tweeter size is the manufacturer's listing for the diameter of the actual tweeter dome inside the plastic housing. The real mounting dimensions are listed on the Details tab of the speaker's webpage. In this case it is a whopping 1.83" cutout for flush mounting, 2.125" flush mount frame diameter, 1.815" surface mount frame diameter. Installing tweeters is almost always a custom job. If these don't work out, don't forget about our 60-day money-back guarantee.

I bought these speakers to replace my factory speakers in my 01 Ram Pickup and was very happy with the clarity of the speakers. I had an aftermarket clarion head unit to begin with so I could easily compare the sound from factory to then Rockford speakers after the install and it was worth every penny. I'll be the first to admit the head unit is arguably the biggest dictator in sound clarity but even with a very modest head unit, these speakers perform well above their price tag. Overall, very happy with purchase and would recommend to anyone!

I expected better base from these compared to stock but they are only marginally better. Tweeters are so close to mounting perfectly without any modifications. But a few minutes of altering and they fit great. I would buy these again for the price as the overall sound quality is vastly superior to stock.

Features

Mica Injected Polypropylene Woofers: The woofer cones are mica injected polypropylene. This material is light weight and rigid for decreased distortion and improved bass response.

Tweeter: The 1/2" Mylar tweeters are a balanced dome design. A semi-dome tweeter has a dome placed inside a cone. Balanced dome tweeters are semi-dome tweeters with equal reproduction area given the cone and dome portions of the tweeter. Out of the box, the tweeters are mounted in the flush mount housings. An angled surface mount housing is also included, and the back of the the flush mount housing and the top of the angled surface mount housing are combined to make the (non-angled) surface mount housing. Once mounted, the tweeters swivel so you can direct them toward the listening positions.

Is the RMS rating of 40 watts for each of the 4 components in this set, i.e., each tweeter 40 watts and each woofer 40 watts?
[ Brent  Jun 16, 2019 ]

The tweeter is hooked in to the speaker by wire supplied from the manufacturer so I would say its 40 watts in parallel. it is not a separate hook up to the tweeter from the stereo . I hope this helps.

A
Yes, you can run these directly off of the factory headunit. However they really shine with some power ( I ran mine both ways). The tweeters are connected at the woofer and have signal filters on them. The woofers rely on the natural frequency roll-off. Take the advantage with the door apart to add some sound deadening.
[ Greg  Sep 01, 2018 ]
A
I installed these in a 2015 mustang to replace factory speakers and they will work with your factory amp. The mid bass speaker has inputs as well as outputs to go to your tweeter the crossover is built onto the mid bass to filter out the low end going to the tweeter. So yes they can connect to the mid bass. But they can also be connected separately if you have factory tweeters in your vehicle like mine did. So works either way.

I have this installed in my Honda Civic without a dedicated amp. The tweeters replaced older tweeters and the subs replaced subs, so they were not connected to each other, except through the broader audio system.

They'll replace your factory speakers perfectly. Remove your old ones, and install these. Be sure you get the polarity correct or you wont have much bass

Q
Is it possible to use the woofers to replace my current front door stock woofers and then use the tweeters to replace my stock dash speakers? Or would it be too much of a hassle to physically mount them that far apart from each other?

A
Component tweeters are often custom-mounted in factory dash locations without issue. So, yes; this is definitely possible. Q
If I want to install these tweeter from Rockford Fosgate Prime R1675-S, flush to my door, what size hole saw bit should I use? The owners manual states 1.83 inches and 2.13 diameter of the crown, and the closest hole saw bit available is 2.0 inches. Thats 50.8mm hole to a 46.40mm, so how to make this install?

A
cut with the next smaller hole saw and dremel the material away to fit the hole so the fit is tight. Use a caliper to measure the mount and scribe that diameter against the surface that you will be grinding... that edge will be what you are drinsimg up to.

There is a built in crossover on the speaker itself. I have a pair in the front doors and they sound awesome! Clear highs and low lows with great mid range too.

It uses a high pass filter in place of an actual crossover. In my vehicle, they sound fantastic at low and mid volumes. At high volumes they're too bright and tire my ears. I have the same head unit with some jbl's in my other vehicle and I can listen at high volume all day. The "low" end is very good and would be better with some more juice. I'm putting in 20w rms.

Frank, I bought these speakers long ago enough that I don't remember. The car I put them in is a 2014 Ford Focus, which already had woofers and tweeters (front doors only) in separate locations, so I assume there was already a crossover in the car. I can't be sure. I also don't remember buying a separate crossover. Lastly, I figured I would screw the whole deal up so I had them installed at a car stereo jawn.
