About the Rockford Fosgate RZR-STAGE5

The alpha dog of off-road audio

If Rockford Fosgate's Stage 4 Polaris RZR audio upgrade kit is the “everything” bagel of Polaris RZR audio, this Stage 5 system is all that and a side Caesar Salad. And since that's one of our favorite combos at a certain local restaurant, we mean it's amazingly good.

With a digital marine receiver, four Punch speakers, plus a 4-channel amp, a 10" subwoofer, and a mono sub amp, this system takes ATV audio to levels no one even imagined possible just a few years ago.  Each component is tough enough for trail duty, so whether you're racing up a sand dune or blasting through a mud pit, you won't have to worry about your audio gear getting trashed.

Fits like a glove

Rockford Fosgate designed this kit to fit right into your RZR, with no cutting and no modification needed. It also comes all the parts and pieces needed for a smooth, hassle-free installation.

Rockford Fosgate PMX-2

Fits right into the dash

It all starts with the receiver

Rockford Fosgate's Punch PMX-2 digital media receiver packs a lot of features into a compact, water-resistant package. This trail-ready stereo features built-in Bluetooth®, so you can stream music stored on your phone, or tune into Pandora® and enjoy your favorite playlists. If you prefer to plug in, you'll find an aux input, plus a USB input that will charge your phone while you're playing music. Speaking of charges, the PMX-2 also has a low-voltage warning alert built-in, so you won't accidentally drain your battery.

Four Punch speakers for powerful sound

Rockford Fosgate's Punch PM2652B speakers are designed for ATV and boat installations, but they're also made to sound great in any environment. The treated poly cone withstands moisture and sunlight, as does the 1" bridge-mounted aluminum tweeter. They're really easy to install, too, thanks to the direct-fit speaker enclosures included in your RZR kit. Made from a fiber-reinforced composite blend, they bolt right in using the factory mounting holes. No drilling needed!

The Stage 5 package also includes a pair of Punch PM2652W-MB wakeboard tower speakers. These compact speakers feature 6-1/2" woofers and aluminum dome tweeters that together handle up to 85 watts RMS, delivering crisp, powerful sound. The adjustable clamps (included) rotate for perfect positioning on your RZR.

Thumpin' bass from a 10" sub

The Power Series T1S2-10 subwoofer fits into select RZRs, thanks to a remarkably efficient design. Rockford Fosgate engineers figured out how to fit a 3" voice coil into a shallow-mount 10" sub, then used their Vertical Attach Surround Technique (VAST) to increase the cone area for fatter bass. As a result, this sub will handle up to 500 watts RMS as it delivers some serious low end.

Two Power Series amps provide plenty of thrust

A system like this requires serious juice, and the Stage 4 package includes two compact amps that will give you all you need. The 4-channel Power TM400X4AD will take care of all your full-range speakers, while the Power TM750X1BD mono amp will power your sub. The kit includes mounting plates for these trail-ready amps.

Note: For RZR S 900 and RZR 4 900 installations, you will need a RZR 1000 center pocket. See Details for more information.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

iPod®/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

Rockford Fosgate RZR-STAGE 5, For my Polaris 1000XP Razor "Rock Climber edition", I originally had A complete MB Quarts Roof speaker, 10" POD, * Sound bar, and door speakers. Hoping it would work with the Polaris Command Ride Display. With the radio it sounded OK. But when I installed the Command ride I got static, crackling, popping. After several tries, Polaris couldn't correct it and got a refund. So I got the Rockford Fosgate RZR-STAGE5. I did the install my self, very easy (it took 5 hours). There is online videos to guide you. As soon as I opened the 102lb box, I was impressed. Professional packing, everything was protected. And it is packed to install as you remove from the packing. As soon as I finished installing the sound system, I had to try it. This baby can play loud. The only thing that I would recommend is get better zip ties, everyone that came with the kit broke (just old zip ties). Everything fits perfect. I was really impressed easy items went in and with how the amps were mounted and how the cables are routed. A very clean look (even no one can see them). Rockford Fosgate team really did a lot of research in making this system for the Razor. They really thought of everything to make this install perfect and sound amazing!. I wish there was a way to incorporate the Polaris Command Ride with the speaker system, Or have a larger display screen. I intend to purchase another set of the PODS and add them next to the other PODS installed.

Pros: Do-it-yourself, Easy install, Professionally packed, Quality product, Amazing look. Ordering from Crutchfield makes it painless. Crutchfield reps keep you updated all the way till the item arrives. And again afterwards to see if there was any problem with order. Very professional

Cons: A little higher cost speaker system (but well worth it in Quality), bad zipties (buy stainless steel retainers with chaffing protection

I've ordered from Crutchfield before, and great service as always. I use to make fun of people with stereos in their SXS's, but now I have one. Only mine will probably blow most away. I was reluctant in getting one because I figure there is no way it would sound good in an open air vehicle? Well, this system sounds great and has a punchy bass that sounds great listening to some good ole rock n roll. It certainly doesn't have the booming bass that would would hear from a giant 12' subwoofer in an enclosed cab, but it does pretty good. Sounds better than most Jeep sound systems I've heard. It can get obnoxiously loud, so I have no problem hearing with helmet on, and foot on the gas pedal with aftermarket exhaust.

Aux Input: The Rockford Fosgate PMX-2 is fitted with a rear-panel stereo RCA AUX input to connect an external audio source. You can give the Aux input a custom  name.

AM/FM Tuner: The PMX-2 features a built-in AM/FM tuner with manual, seek, and preset tuning. You can store up to 18 FM and 12 AM preset stations; these presets can be stored manually or automatically. You can set the tuner to Local or Distance tuning. The Local option tunes to nearby radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. In areas where reception is poor, switching to Distance tuning enables the unit to tune in to more distant stations. You can choose between US or European tuning.

Weather Band: The Rockford Fosgate PMX-2 is also equipped with a built-in weather band tuner. Select from weather band frequencies between 162.40 to 162.55.

MOSFET Amplifier: The PMX-2 is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

  • Full Bandwidth Power: 25 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20-20kHz, 1% THD)
  • Maximum Output Power: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 watts total)
Note: The power specifications for the marine receiver are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers.

4V/4Ch Preouts + Sub Control: The Rockford Fosgate PMX-2 is equipped with two pair of 4-volt preamp outputs (Front & Rear/Sub). You can configure the Rear/Sub pre-out for rear speakers with fading capability or as a non-fading sub output. You can turn off the unit's internal amplifier, you plan on using only external amps. When the sub out is activated, you can independently adjust its volume level from 0 to 40.

Equalizer: The PMX-2 is equipped with a variety of EQ presets, and 7-Band EQ, and Rockford Fosgate's Punch EQ.

  • Presets: Select between seven EQ presets - FLAT, ROCK, CLASSIC, ACOUSTIC, DANCE, ELECTRONIC, or HIP-HOP.
  • 7-Band EQ: Use the built-in 7-band EQ to custom tailor the sound of your music to your liking.
  • Punch EQ: Punch EQ is an onboard equalizer with up to +18dB at 45Hz and/or up to +12dB boost at 12.5kHz.

High-Pass & Low-Pass Crossovers: The PMX-2 provides a high-pass crossover for the front & rear channels which can be set to 60Hz, 80Hz, 120Hz, or Full-Range. The unit also provides a low-pass crossover for the subwoofer output that can be set to 60Hz, 80Hz, 120Hz, or Full-Range.

Source Gain: You can adjust the gain of each source so they all play at the same volume level. Select between -3dB, -2dB, -1dB, 0dB, +1dB, +2dB, or +3dB for each source.

Key Beep: A beep tone will sound with any press of a button on the receiver. This can be turned on or off.

4-Channel Amplifier + Front & Rear Speakers

4-Channel Amp: The Rockford Fosgate TM400X4ad is a 4-channel Power Series "moto-marine" amplifier with a rated power output of 100 watts per channel at 4-ohms or 2-ohms. This Element Ready amplifier can be used on motorcycles, ATVs, or boats, and can withstand harsh environmental conditions. The CEA-2006-rated RMS power output is 100 watts RMS x 4 channels. Additionally the power output is 100 watts RMS x 4 channels into 2Ω and 200 watts RMS x 1 channel bridged (into 4Ω).

  • Features:
    • Element Ready: Rockford Fosgate's Element Ready Amplifiers are protected against dust, UV rays, and corrosion. Marine-grade, two-part epoxy-coated circuit boards are used to prevent corrosion due to exposure in moist and humid places. In addition, stainless hardware is used to help prevent rust and corrosion of all electrical connections.
    • Class-AD: The TM400X4ad features Rockford Fosgate's proprietary Class-AD technology, which allows the amplifier to produce more power with less current draw from the vehicle's charging system.
    • 3-Stage Airflow: The amp's 3-stage airflow method efficiently rids the chassis of heat to keep the amplifier running cool. Dual fan forced induction pulls in fresh air. The air flows over the MOSFET transistors to cool them down, and out through the exhaust channel. The top and bottom heat sinks are decoupled, which allows the top to remain cool to the touch. At least 2-3 inches clearance should be provided around the fan intake and the exhaust vents to optimize air flow.
    • DSM (Discrete Surface Mount): High speed robotics are used in the manufacturing process to place 1% tolerance parts and large board traces. DSM improves the efficiency of the circuit, decreases cross-talk from other discrete components and lowers operating temperature.
    • CLEAN Set-Up: Rockford's integrated level setting technology, CLEAN (Calibrated Level Eliminates Audible Noise), replaces sophisticated test equipment with input/output clip LEDs, allowing you to match the source unit's output to the amp's gain, and optimize the amp's output. The input clip indicator works in conjunction with the audio source volume, illuminating red when the source reaches its clipping point. The output clip indicator works in conjunction with the input level dial on the amp, illuminating the appropriate color depending on the audio content used for the setup
  • Controls:
    • Input Level: The amplifier has dual input level controls for the front and rear channels, conveniently accessible from the top. To accommodate the varying range of signal levels from today's factory and aftermarket radios, the input levels are adjustable from 150mV to 12V. A small flat-head screwdriver (not supplied) is needed to adjust the levels.
    • Input Switch: With the input switch in the 2-channel position, connecting only the front inputs will send the signal to both the front and rear sections of the amplifier. In the 4-channel position, both front and rear inputs must be used.
    • Crossover: The amplifier has dual built-in Butterworth crossovers for the front and rear channels, variable from 50 Hz to 250 Hz with a slope of 12dB/octave. They can be independently set to high-pass, all-pass (full range), or low-pass operation. The rotary frequency settings can be adjusted with a small screwdriver.
    • Punch EQ: The amplifier has dual Punch EQ functions that change with the crossover switches. When the crossover is set to low-pass, the Punch EQ acts as a variable bass boost; 0 to +18 dB at 45 Hz. When the crossover is set to high-pass, the Punch EQ acts as a variable treble boost, 0 to +14 dB at 12.5 kHz. When the crossover is set to all-pass, both the bass and treble boost circuits are active.
  • Connections:
    • Power Connections: The TM400X4ad's power, ground, and remote turn-on terminals are located on a single, removable plug. This allows you quickly and easily connect or disconnect the amplifier. Each individual terminal on the plug is a captive c-clamp connector which will accommodate up to 8-gauge wire. A Phillips- or flat-head screwdriver (not supplied) is required to tighten/loosen the terminals.
    • Fuse: The amplifier does not have an on-board fuse. A 60-amp fuse should be placed on the power wire within 18" of the battery.
    • Speaker Connections: The amplifier is equipped with two speaker output harnesses, which connects to the amplifier via 4-pin plugs. The speaker wires should be spliced to the 16-gauge bare wires on the 8" pigtails. To bridge the amplifier, you should use the left front and rear positive and right front and rear negative terminals.
    • Signal Input: The amplifier's Differential Inputs will accept either a line-level or speaker-level input on the Molex-style connector. The included input harnesses each have a 4-pin Molex plug and dual RCAs. Front and rear line-level signals can simply be connected via RCA cables from the source unit to the input harness. For a speaker-level signal, you can cut the RCA connectors from the input harness and splice the wires to the speaker wires of the source unit. When using a speaker-level input signal, the auto turn-on feature is active and the remote turn-on terminal becomes a 12 volt output, which can be used to turn on/off an additional amplifier or other component.

6.5" Front Speakers w/ Pods: The two fiber reinforced composite blend 6.5" front speaker enclosures are designed to be a direct fit for select Polaris RZR model ATVs. The included PM2652B marine speakers mount perfectly in these enclosures.  Rockford Fosgate uses industry standard tests (ASTM B117 salt/fog and ASTM D4329 sunlight, moisture, and heat) to ensure the PM2652B speakers will provide optimum performance in the difficult marine environment.  All necessary mounting hardware is included. Mono-Amplifier & Subwoofer

Mono-Block Amplifier: The Rockford Fosgate Power Marine TM750X1bd is an ultra-compact mono-block amplifier. Even though the amplifier is only 8-1/2" x 4-1/4", it puts out a full 500 watts x 1 at 4 ohms, 750 x 1 at 2 ohms, or 750 x 1 at 1 ohm.

  • Features:
    • Class BD: The amplifier features Rockford Fosgate's proprietary Class bd technology, which is more efficient than typical Class AB amplifiers, with lower distortion than Class D amps. Class AB amps typically have 20-60% efficiency, with the remaining power generating heat. Class bd amps are 75-80% efficient, creating more power to drive your speakers, and less creating heat.
    • Element Ready: This Rockford Fosgate Power Marine amplifier features a conformal coated circuit board that provides protection against exposure to the elements. This marine-grade two-part epoxy coating on the circuit board resists moisture and corrosion from the harsh marine environment. The amp is also protected against dust and UV rays, and features stainless hardware to resist corrosion.
    • Constant Power: Rockford Fosgate uses a patented circuit design to gain up to 25% more output power. Constant Power actively increases the voltage and current in direct relationship to the rise and fall of music signals to provide additional power.
    • Fan Cooled: The TM750X1bd features extruded aluminum heat sinks and dual fans to keep the amp running cool. Dual Fan Forced Induction pulls in fresh air, which pulls heat off of the MOSFETs, and directs airflow into the exhaust channel and out of the amplifier. Since the top and bottom heat sinks are decoupled, the top remains cool to the touch. When installing, you should leave at least 2-3" of clearance around the ends of the amplifier to optimize air flow to the fan intake and exhaust vents.
    • C.L.E.A.N. Technology: Using Rockford's C.L.E.A.N. (Calibrated Level Eliminates Audible Noise) technology, you can easily and precisely set up the amplifier levels to eliminate distortion from damaging your speakers. Simple LED indicators are used, instead of test equipment, to identify signal clipping at both the input and output, and to match the audio source to the amplifier.
  • Controls:
    • Input Level: This rotary control lets you match the output of the audio source to the amplifier.
    • Punch EQ: The Punch EQ eliminates frequency shift with boost. It functions as a 0 to +18dB variable Bass Boost at 45Hz.
    • Frequency: The Butterworth crossover is internally set to Low Pass, and the cutoff frequency is constantly variable between 50Hz and 250Hz with a slope of 12dB/octave.
    • Infrasonic Filter: The 2-way switch lets you engage the built-in Infrasonic Filter. The filter has a fixed cutoff frequency of 28Hz, with a slope of 12dB/octave. The Infrasonic Filter cuts out frequency below 28Hz that cause distortion, and are difficult for speakers to reproduce.
  • Indicators:
    • Input Clip Indicator: The input clip indicator works in conjunction with the audio source's volume knob. It will illuminate red when the audio source reaches its clipping point.
    • Output Clip Indicator: The output clip indicator works in conjunction with the amplifier's input level knob. It will illuminate red when the output level has reached the clipping point. When setting the level using test tones, you should adjust the output level until the LED glows blue. If setting the output level using music, the LED should glow blue with only an occasional red indication.
    • Power/Protect: The Power LED illuminates blue when the unit is turned on. If the LED turns yellow, a short circuit or too low of an impedance has been detected at the speaker connections. If the LED turns red, the amp has overheated and has shut down.
  • Connections:
    • Power/Remote Terminals: The amplifier's Power, Ground, and Remote terminals are located in a separate plug-in quick connector. The connector has compression terminals that will accept up to 8-gauge wire. When utilizing high-level signals for the auto turn-on feature is active, and the Remote terminal can be used as an output to turn on/off up to two additional amplifiers or other accessories. A small screwdriver (not included) is required to tighten/loosen the compression terminals. Once the wires are installed in the quick connector, the connector can be plugged into the amplifier.
    • Inputs: The 4-pin Molex connector works with the supplied RCA Input Harness. The amp will accept signals from either high-level (speaker) or low-level (RCA) sources. If connected to a high-level input signal, the amp's auto turn-on feature is active. For high-level input, you can either splice RCA plugs onto the source unit's speaker wires, or cut the RCAs off of the supplied input harness and splice on speaker wires from the source unit using the standard wire color code (white=left, gray=right).
    • Speakers: The speaker output has removable compression terminals that will accept up to 10-gauge wire.
    • Remote Punch Level Control: This RJ45 jack lets you plug in the optional PLC2 Punch Remote Level Control. The control needs to be switched to the ON position in order to use the remote level control.
Note: The amplifier has no built-in fuses. It is recommended that a 100A fuse be placed on the power wire about 18" from the battery.

10" Woofer (2-Ohm): The power rating on the T1S1-10 subwoofer conforms to CEA-2031 industry standards, meaning it has the capacity to handle its rated power under continuous demand.

  • Klippel Verified: The Klippel distortion analyzer, a device that uses a laser and sophisticated software to do large-scale analysis of drivers in motion, lets Rockford Fosgate optimize the sub's motor structure, voice coil alignment, and suspension to yield the best possible performance.
  • EVCC: Rockford Fosgate's Encapsulated Voice Coil Coupling (EVCC, Patent Pending) technology connects to the subwoofer's voice coil from both the top and bottom and provides a more secure mounting platform for both the dual spiders and cone assembly.
  • SYMS: Unlike a traditional motor assembly, Split Yoke Motor Technology (Patent Pending) moves the magnet inside the voice coil. This design allows greater excursion than typical shallow subwoofers.
  • VAST Surround: The Vertical Attach Surround Technique (VAST) increases a speaker's effective radiating cone area without increasing the size of the basket.
  • FlexFit Basket: The Flex Fit frame utilizes slots (where possible) instead of single screw sized holes; allowing slight adjustment of the speaker when mounted.
  • Anodized Aluminum Voice Coil Former: Aluminum voice coil formers offer superior heat dissipation over other commonly used materials. The hard-anodized finish increases the former strength. These two factors combine to improve the overall power handling characteristics of the subwoofer.

Subwoofer Enclosure: The T1S1-10 subwoofer mounts to the included fiber-reinforced, composite-blend subwoofer enclosure which is designed to be a direct fit for select Polaris RZR model ATVs. The enclosure's texture and color is matched to the ATV's interior. The enclosure bolts in directly to factory mounting holes and offers a stealth install once mounted and body panels are replaced.
