Compatibility Notes:
  • The USA Spec BT-TOYR adapter harness (581BTTOYR, sold separately) is used in conjunction with the BT45-TOY add-on Bluetooth interface module to maintain the Auto switching function for incoming calls and keeping audio levels normal in Toyota & Lexus vehicles that are factory equipped with (Rear Seat Entertainment).
  • The 2002-2004 Toyota Land Cruiser & 1998-2002 Sienna require USA Spec's CAS-TLC adapter cable (581CASTLC, sold separately).
  • The Lexus 2002-2003 ES 300, 2001-2003 IS 300, 2001-2003 LS 430, 2001-2003 LX 470, and 2000-2003 RX 300 (NAV only) require USA Spec's CAS-LEX adapter cable (581CASLEX, sold separately).

Bluetooth Pairing: The USA Spec BT45-TOY can only be paired and connected to one Bluetooth device at a time. Its compatible with most Bluetooth-enabled mobile devices such as Apple iPod touch/iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone/tablet, Blackberry, Windows phone, and more.

Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the USA Spec BT45-TOY.

Bluetooth Hands-Free Communication (HFP): The USA Spec BT45-TOY supports Bluetooth Profile HFP for hands-free communication from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, so you can take (answer/end) phone calls through your vehicle's factory radio.

  • Answering a Phone Call: When there is an incoming call, your factory stereo's music will be muted and an audible ring-tone will be heard through your vehicle speakers. You can even have the BT45-TOY announce the caller's phone number through your sound system; and for most text-capable radios if you miss the announcement, you can view the caller's phone number on your factory radio's display. To answer the call, simply press the Seek/Tune or CH+ button on your factory radio or steering wheel control. To end or reject a call, press the Seek/Tune or CH- button on your factory radio or steering wheel control.
  • Dialing a Phone Number: In order to dial a phone number, you will still need to use your Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone; you cannot dial a number from the factory radio. Once you've dialed a number from your mobile phone, then the call will be automatically transferred to the BT45-TOY and your factory stereo system.
  • External Microphone: The USA Spec BT45-TOY includes an external microphone to carry on your side of the conversation, while the caller's voice will be heard through your vehicle's speakers. The external microphone provides better performance in noisy environments than the integrated microphone found in many factory or aftermarket head units. The microphone is fitted with a 16' cable terminated by a 3.5mm connector that connects to the BT45-TOY module; it measures 0.9375" (w) x 0.6875" (h) x 1.625" (d). The microphone has a self-adhesive backing to mount it to your vehicle's driver-side pillar, head-liner trim, or dash (do not mount it to the windshield.

Bluetooth Audio Streaming (A2DP/AVRCP): The BT45-TOY supports Bluetooth Profiles A2DP and AVRCP for wireless audio streaming from a Bluetooth-enabled device that can also be controlled from the buttons on your vehicle's factory radio or steering wheel; in some cases you can also view song/artist information on your factory radio's display.

  • Wireless Music Streaming: You can stream music stored on your Bluetooth enabled device or stream music apps (such as Pandora, SiriusXM Radio, iHeartRadio, etc.) that are playing on your Bluetooth device to your vehicle's sound system (all speakers will play).
  • Music Control: You can control Play/Pause and Previous/Next Track functions from your vehicle's factory radio or steering wheel controls (other control functions will have to be done from your Bluetooth enabled device). You can control the volume of the music being streamed via your factory radio and steering wheel controls, or the Bluetooth device.
  • Song/Artist Information: In many cases, you can view artist, album, and song title information on your factory radio's display. In order to view song/artist information on your factory radio's display, your factory radio and your Bluetooth-enabled device must meet the following requirements:
    • Your factory radio must have a "SAT" button or "Radio" & "CAT" buttons; a satellite radio does not need to be activated, nor does the satellite radio tuner need to be present.
    • If you are using a Bluetooth-enabled Apple iPod touch/iPhone/iPad, then it must be running iOS 6 or higher. If you are using a Bluetooth-enabled Android smartphone/tablet, then it must be running Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) or higher operating system.
    • Your device's Bluetooth AVRCP profiles must be 1.4 or higher.

Auxiliary Input: In addition to wireless Bluetooth connectivity, the USA Spec BT45-TOY is fitted with an auxiliary audio input (3.5mm) for connection of practically any portable audio device with a headphone jack output or analog audio output.

USB Charging Port: The USA Spec BT45-TOY features a USB (type-A) port to charge your smartphone or other portable audio device in your vehicle. Because the BT45-TOY is a hide-away device, you'll want to purchase a USB extension cable (sold separately) to make the unit's USB charging port accessible. The USB charging port is rated at 5V/2.1A.

Note: This USB port is for charging only; it does not support music streaming.

Dip Switches: There are 4 dip switches that will need to be configured to depending on which emulation mode works best with your radio (CD Changer, SAT, MD Changer, etc.).

Installation: The USA Spec BT45-TOY installs under the dash and behind the factory radio.

Q
I have a non-jbl 2010 Tacoma and I just wondering if this plays on all speakers or just the front and can I connect multiple phones?
[ Alfonso  Mar 21, 2020 ]
5 answers
A
On my 2005 Tacoma, the device works on all speakers and can accept multiple phones, however, sometimes I have to turn one phone's bluetooth off to allow the other to connect. The device uses the CD Changer input into the factory radio unit. My vehicle does not have a CD changer but the factory unit had such an input. so it was just a matter of plugging it into the existing harness. The treatment of incoming calls happens seamlessly as the unit automatically switchs the radio from whatever input it was using to CD2. I'm very happy with the investment in the BT45-Toy.
[ K Andrew  Apr 21, 2020 ]
A
Yes it plays through all the speakers. You can only connect one phone/ Bluetooth device at a time.
[ Cosmo  Apr 20, 2020 ]  Staff
A
Yes. It plays on all speakers as does the factory system. Mine is installed in a 2006 Lexus. The only problem I have is that I want to use the Lexus Bluetooth phone system and the Bluetooth BT45-TOY for music. It is very cumbersome to do this. If you are going to use the BT45-TOY for both it should work well. Hope this helps.
[ Kenneth  Apr 20, 2020 ]
A
Installed in a 2006 Toyota Sienna Mini Van with factory JBL system. - Plays on all speakers. - Connects to only one phone at a time. It has been my experience that once paired to a particular phone, it works very well!
[ Michael  Apr 20, 2020 ]
A
I purchased for a JBL equipped Tacoma. It added Bluetooth capability to the stereo, so it was heard throughout the entire system. It only connects to one phone at a time and cannot be split (like newer vehicles.allow for audio from one phone and calls from another simultaneously) but any phone can hookup as long as the code is known or the device is saved to the phone. Example, my phone connected automatically so when my son would come along, I would turn off Bluetooth on my phone so that he could connect. The biggest con, to me, was how loud the voice made announcements ("Connected" or "Incoming Call From...") It was the worst! So loud and no settings to adjust. So if you had radio turned up listening to a station and a call came in, 10x louder you heard, "Incoming call from...".

Q
I don't use my rear seat entertainment system. Do I still need the extra cable?
[ RichW  Jan 01, 2020 ]
4 answers
A
I ordered the USA Spec BT-TOY and received it this week. I also ordered the USA Spec BT-TOYR and began the installation today in my 2004 4Runner SE. The additional USA Spec BT-TOYR wiring for the rear entertainment system (RES) is necessary. You cannot complete the installation without it because the large connector on the back of the 6-CD In Dash JBL radio doesn't fit the BT-45 TOY standard jack. The OEM plug on the radio is kept and the USA Spec BT-TOYR special wiring is used for one of the other 2 connections on the back of the radio. I'm glad I ordered the extra wiring and I'm pleased with the USA Spec BT-TOY's performance, especially the Bluetooth. It's the best my radio has ever sounded.
[ RichW  Feb 10, 2020 ]
A
It comes with everything needed. You don't need to purchase any extra cables
[ Cale  Jan 02, 2020 ]
A
No you do not need the extra cable
[ MICHAELANGELO  Jan 01, 2020 ]
A
No, you don't need it. It should work just fine.

Q
My 2004 4Runner has the 6-CD changer. Will I still be able to play CDs?
[ RichW  Jan 01, 2020 ]
5 answers
A
Yes Rich, the CD-player works as it normally would. The BT-45 is great...ez installation and works like a factory option. You will not be disappointed!
[ Brian  Jan 03, 2020 ]
A
Short answer is yes. If I recall correctly, there is a switch on the bt45-toy that allows you to select the channel you want it to come through. My car has satellite radio that I never use so I set it up on that channel and didnt use the CD player channel. If that isnt an option for you and you set it the CD player, I think all CD's must be removed so the music doesnt play together. But you can still use the CD player, just dont turn on music from a bluetooth source that's paired to the bt45-toy.
[ Ryan  Jan 02, 2020 ]
A
Yes. I think so. I had my in a old AVALON 2000 model. I used the cd changer input for the Bluetooth device as my system had the built in cd changer. Need more help contact CRUTCHFIELD tech. There a super helpful.
[ MICHAEL K  Jan 02, 2020 ]
A
I have this unit installed in a 2004 Lexus GX470, which is built on the 4Runner platform. The CD changer still works and shows up as CD2. The BT45-TOY shows up as a CD1. Tap Disk button on the audio controls to select CD1or CD2.
[ Brian  Jan 01, 2020 ]
A
Yes, the bluetooth will work thru the CD. It won't interfere with the CD changer. Just remember to adjust the volume when using the bluetooth.
[ PATRICK  Jan 01, 2020 ]

Q
In a 2005 Land Cruiser, does this go in the "SAT" channel? and does it show song data?
[ briman  May 06, 2019 ]
6 answers
A
On our Lexus we could plug it into any channel (we chose CD, since we didn't have a SAT option & our CD player broke long ago). It doesn't show song data but may on a newer audio system. Bluetooth works great, the hardest part was prying the dash apart to remove the radio & plug the BT45-TOY into the back (instead of hiding it we removed part of the old ashtray & it sits in that space.)
[ Kelly  May 07, 2019 ]
A
Not the exact answer you're looking for but ... in a 2007 RX350, I believe you can program it to use any channel you wish. I don't believe that the song data changed from the vehicle's default display. In other words, I don't believe this unit alters your existing display settings.
[ Joseph  May 07, 2019 ]
A
On mine the system thinks it is playing a CD. The song data shows on the title info fields.
[ RICK  May 07, 2019 ]
A
I installed mine in a 2006 Lexus it operates through the SAT option. Mine displays the artist name and song title when used with my samsung galaxy. additionally I can change songs on the steering wheel control. you should be very pleased
[ Michael  May 06, 2019 ]
A
For a 2005 Land Cruiser, I do not know. I have it installed on a 2008 Sequoia and it does Song Title and Artist when you flip to text from the SAT station screen.
[ Scott  May 06, 2019 ]
A
Ours was set up to work in "disc 4" of our 6 disc changer. Does not show song data 2006 Lexus LX470

Q
Will my steering wheel controls control audio? (2005 Toyota Land Cruiser)
[ briman  May 06, 2019 ]
6 answers
A
It did on my 2006 Lexus Rx400.
[ Douglas  May 07, 2019 ]
A
It should. I installed the Bluetooth unit in my 2006 Lexus GX 470 (land cruiser Prado) and steering controls adjust volume and advance songs off my phone.
[ ian  May 07, 2019 ]
A
I have an 08 Scion xB and the controls all work. Volume and next song. I have the stock stereo that came with my model. My dash no longer dims, but that might be from my previous stereo being stolen in a careless fashion.
[ Jonathan  May 06, 2019 ]
A
Yes! Volume and Selection work on our 2003. I do not use the phone function.
[ AARON  May 06, 2019 ]
A
Yes, however don't count on the device working after 6 months. I've gone through two BT45-Toy devices. Both professionally installed. With each I eventually lost am-fm radio and the bluetooth didn't always work and when they did they crackled with distortion. The vendor will not refund however they'll send you another device that I assume is rebuilt.
[ paul  May 06, 2019 ]
A
All existing vehicle controls will continue to work as they do now.
[ BRYAN  May 06, 2019 ]
Q
I have a 2006 Avalon Limited with the navigation system and what the owner's manual calls "Radio type 3" which is the fanciest one Toyota offered that year, I believe. Will installing this device interfere with any of my current controls, including the ones on the steering wheel?
[ Adam  Apr 14, 2019 ]
1 answer
A
Adam, no it will not interfere with anything. The steering wheel controls still work. I put this in my 2005 Avalon Limited with navigation. It plugs into the satellite (SAT) plug in the back of radio. It is then controlled as SAT on the mode.
[ Richard  Apr 15, 2019 ]
Q
Im currently using an FM Bluetooth transmitter to stream audio on my Lexus IS250. While sound is ok is not the best. Very muffled audio and at times distorted. Will this device give me better sound or will it be just as equivalent as a transmitter?
[ Joshua  Feb 02, 2019 ]
5 answers
A
I did think the sound was better, yes. FM transmitters are not good. I've used them many times in the past and none of them seemed to have good sound. Hope this helps.
[ Brian  Feb 05, 2019 ]
A
The sound is perfect and exactly what you would be looking for. The only drawback we found on the unit is if your in the car and Bluetooth is connected and you are not using Bluetooth mode, say your on fm, anytime your phone makes a noise from a call or anything it automatically switches over to blue tooth. You essentially have to turn Bluetooth off on your phone if you want to be in the car and use fm or cd.
[ Cody  Feb 03, 2019 ]
A
I've never used the plug in bluetooth transmitters so i can't speak on that, but in my 07 Tacoma I still have the USA Spec running and have had no issues, sound quality is still as good as factory. The ONLY issue I have is not being able to use my factory steering wheel controls. Other than that i'm satisfied.
[ Juan  Feb 03, 2019 ]
A
I have on in my 2009 Toyota RAV4 with in dash navigation system and screen, audio is very good. Should be a great improvement over what you describe. The speaker phone though the car works very well also. Be aware, installation might be best left to a professional, unless you are really good with tools and such.
[ Harry  Feb 02, 2019 ]
A
Sounds much better as far as a good bluetooth connection allows, no hiss, will loose the CD player - but who uses CD's anyways. Installed on my 2007 IS350, working great for 18 months no problems.
[ Rajubhai  Feb 02, 2019 ]
Q
Will this fit my 2001 Lexus RX300?
[ muncriefdion  Jan 10, 2019 ]
1 answer
A
It can work in the non-Nakamichi sound systems in a 2001 RX300 with a separate harness. The separate harness that is needed will vary depending on if you do or don't have the stock navigation. I recommend contacting an advisor on 1-800-324-9695 if you don't have the Nakamichi sound system so you can get the correct one My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Paul

Q
I'm looking to install this in my 1998 Toyota Celica. The factory unit stereo only has radio and a tape deck, so since I don't have an "Aux" or "Sat" source button to connect this adapter to, how do I "switch" to bluetooth audio?
[ Josh  Oct 17, 2018 ]
1 answer
A
Hi Josh , I was asked by Crutchfield to help answer your question as I purchased one of these units almost 2 years ago. While I am not certain about the compatibility to your specific car I can attest to the quality and performance of the unit itself.I installed the adapter myself on my 2007 Lexus GX470. The quality is evident and the instructions were very clear. Its plug and play. The unit syncs with my iphones very quickly and has worked perfectly since my install, again almost 2 years ago.I live in Rural Northern California and drive on very rough dirt and gravel roads daily, really some of the most punishing roads in the USA so the Bluetooth adapter has definitely passed the bounce and dust test !I believe that if you have a great sounding stock stereo system as I have (Mark Levinson premium system) and just need the option of bluetooth interface then this unit is the best option out there and Crutchfield is the best when it comes to customer satisfaction. I have bought from them on and off for around 30 years ! Enjoy !

Q
I have 2007 Sequoia with JBL navigation system. It has steering wheel controls. I added a siriusXM dock that uses antenna to play music (so I have to find open station on FM radio) and it has a rear seat DVD player (in the console). I never really use rear seat DVD player anymore so it can go. Will this still work?
[ ResqDoc  Jul 07, 2018 ]
2 answers

I don't know about the Sequoia, but it works great in my 2007 Lexus RX 350. All of my controls on the steering wheel work the same as before. The DIY installation was relatively simple. The hardest part is getting the flip switches on the back of the unit configured correctly. All of my music is on my phone, so it is the perfect match for me, no cables. Just make sure you get the correct unit for your vehicle.

The BT45-TOY will be compatible but, when you have the factory rear seat DVD entertainment system, you will also need the BT-TOYR adapter harness for the installation: www.crutchfield.com/p_581BTTOYR/item.html

Q
i have a 2012 Camry Hyrbrid XLE with the premium JBL sound system. Recently the bluetooth has started to malfunction and I can't find anyplace that works on this specific Toyota unit. Will this USA Spec be a plug n play install? Would I be able to pair my phone to the USA Spec unit only and it would then handle all my hands free calling? Thanks

It should be plug and play. When you connect it to your radio it should function off either the CD or the SAT option on your radio depending on how your set it up. Once connected you should be able to unpair from the car radio and pair to this unit. You will have to use the mic on this unit. It should take care of your hands free calling.

I put this unit in a 2006 Toyota Land Cruiser which already had hands-free phone but did not have music streaming capability. The original system still works in the new system installed can't be used for hands-free calling in music streaming. It has a proper wiring harness so it is a plug-and-play type thing but you probably will have to remove the radio to make the connection. I have been happy with this product.

I have a 2008 Sequoia with the jbl system with bluelogic for phone. Can I use this for streaming music only? and will the headunit still work for the calls as before?

Since your phone will connect EITHER to the head unit or to the BT-TOY at any given time, but NOT to both at the same time, what you are asking for is unlikely to work. This seems to be the nature of bluetooth implementation for sound capable devices

If you're looking for streaming only this might not be for you. As far as I know, as long as you're connected to this unit it will answer your phone when it rings. Perhaps you need a Bluetooth car kit for music only.

This device will intercept all bluetooth functions when paired with a phone.

It is Bluetooth only. The usb is for charging only. It is very good unit for calls and streaming

This was installed in a 2008 Lexus IS250. It connects to the phone through Bluetooth as there is no aux/USB. in the car. The USB included in this kit is for charging only.

I use mine mostly for Bluetooth (talking on the phone or streaming music). You can also use an aux cord to connect to things like the older iPods that don't have Bluetooth capability. I barely use the aux cord.

Mine is hidden behind the dash and runs solely off BT. The only problem is that it yells "connected" every time you turn on the car. Otherwise, it works flawlessly on my 2003 Land Cruiser (LX470) to add BT to the Mark Levinson NAV deck. It does not show song titles, phone numbers, etc.

Yes, it is a Bluetooth connection for a smartphone to stream music. My Land Cruiser already had Bluetooth for phone connectivity so I only use it to stream music. Both system still operate and you do not need to use the USB port.

You may use it just for bluetooth. It has three options (power, aux and bluetooth). But you can hook up any combination: all three, just two (power and bluetooth) or just one (bluetooth). I didn't want to keep opening the dash so I added the power line to charge the iPhone that was using the bluetooth and put the aux line into my glove compartment if a friend wanted to listen to something else.

In my Lexus LX470 I am able to use this for Bluetooth and Auxiliary; I just have to switch discs on my Lexus audio controls. If all I wanted was Bluetooth, it would work just fine. If all I wanted was AUX it would work just fine. The usb however is only for charging.

Q
I currently have BT for phone only in my '09 Highlander. If I install this unit, will I still have to install the microphone that comes with it or will I be able to use the existing microphone in my factory stereo?

You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

I don't have a Lexus. I have a 2011 Tacoma and this works great. I tried a unit from Pac Audio the first time. It did not work. This unit works great and sounds great. I am using it with my iPhone 5s. I can Bluetooth music while navagating. When I receive a phone call it switches over to the phone. Afterward it goes back to the music. This unit works.
