About the Sonos Connect

Add streaming music to your existing system

You don't have to upgrade all your equipment to enjoy the convenience of wireless music streaming. Add the Sonos Connect to your existing stereo or home theater system, and you can stream tunes from dozens of music services over Wi-Fi®. This compact player works with almost any existing audio system — hook it up to a receiver or powered speaker system in any room of your home.

The Connect uses your existing Wi-Fi network to connect to the internet. Or, you can connect it to your network router, and Sonos will create its own dedicated wireless network for even better performance. Analog and digital audio outputs make this player compatible with just about any audio/video receiver, shelf system, or powered speakers.

Sonos controllers

Easy control with your smartphone

The free Sonos app is one of the best in the A/V world. It's easy to navigate and play music, whether it's stored on your phone, a networked computer, or in the cloud. Sonos works seamlessly with a host of streaming music services, including Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora®, SiriusXM, TIDAL, Amazon Music, and more (subscription required for some services). You also get access to thousands of radio stations.

Add more Sonos gear for a whole-home audio system

Once you own one Sonos product, there's a good chance you'll want to add more. They can all sync perfectly, so you can play the same selection in multiple rooms. You can also play different songs in different rooms at the same time. The app makes it easy to control multiple zones at once, with intuitive independent volume controls and source selection. Play a Spotify playlist in the living room with the Connect while a Sonos One speaker streams a Pandora station in the kitchen.

Stream audio from connected devices

The Connect has an aux input, so you can plug in an external audio device. Imagine connecting your turntable with phono preamp to the Connect and being able to listen to vinyl throughout the house using Sonos gear. It's a great way to get more mileage out of your LPs.

Add Alexa voice control

That aux input also opens up Sonos to voice control. Connect an Echo Dot or other Alexa-compatible voice control assistant and pair it with your existing Sonos system via the Alexa mobile app. Alexa will "see" all the rooms that you have set up in your Sonos system, and you can control music playback in all of them, simply by talking to your Alexa device. As of May 2018, the following music services work with Alexa: Spotify (Premium), Pandora, Amazon Music, iHeartRadio, SiriusXM, and Deezer.

Expand your Sonos system

You can have up to 32 Sonos music players in your system, and each one can play an independent selection of individual tracks or playlists. Listen to jazz in the den while your spouse plays rock music in the kitchen, or pump a single playlist of songs throughout the entire house during a party.

Connected right up into my sonos system. Though, I was not able to go through the motions with sonos on my desktop, it had to be done via my phone. No big deal though. It connects through my wifi network isolation sonos boost. I have not noticed any cut-outs while playing records yet.

I just recently purchased the Sonos connect to expand music throughout house. I currently have an Onkyo 646 as HT receiver with 5.1 speaker set up and two sonos one gen2 speakers. Previously ran separately with one sonos on TV stand (same room as 5.1 and other on top of shelf near front entrance. Now one in game room other at front entrance. Setup was a little back and forth until I figured out need optical cable and need to use CD output which was already in use for firestick. Switched firestick to TV digital output for sound and CD for sonos connect. A few other neccessary tweaks and now both can play at same time with no lag time. I will soon add two more sonos ones and upgrade reciever. For now works as needed and sounds great. Crutchfield has always been easy to do business with and this time was no exception recieved order in two days.

Useless

Chris from Jupiter, FL on 2/5/2019

Verified customer (What's this?)

A wonderful system made completely useless by constant app and device updates that you can not bypass. So every time you want to do something as simple as listen to music - you have to wait for an update. I have a house full of people waiting to party and i am sitting in silence waiting for some useless update to finish so i can play music. It's like using technology from the dark ages - really! Who designs a system like that? Add on to that they now force you to use a password to manage you system. Another thing you can not opt out of. They say its for security reasons - I don't need my Sonos locked down! WHT do you make me! One more thing you need to reset or remeber once a year to make ANY changes to your system. This was a great system at one time - now its just a waste of time!

Pros: Good App

Cons: Constant forced app and device updates. You will spend more time updating this system that listening to it. New password and logon requirements ( once again forced on you ) just make thing more complicated.

Very pleased with both the Sonos Connect and especially the personalized service, as always, from the Crutchfield folks. In fact I had purchased the Sonos Play 5 first and decided that I prefer to hook into my home audio system to utilize the great Klipsch speakers, purchased from Crutchfield, with the Sonos capability. It was easier than easy to order the Sonos Connect and return the Sonos Play 5. All in all a great experience!

The Connect is a super handy little streaming box. It's easy to set up (as long as all of your devices are on the same subnet!) and easy to use. I set three of these mixed with a few Connect:AMP units up at a home that already had speakers all connected to one amplifier. They love how easy it is to change what music is playing where and how many services you can connect with it. It's so easy to combine rooms and control. It's the perfect controller for an existing or new whole-house speaker system. Can be easily hooked to a multi-zone amplifier or a regular stereo. The only con I've run into is I wish it had native AirPlay and Google Cast integration.

Pros: Easy setup. Simple app. Lots of music service options.

Cons: No native Google Cast or AirPlay.

Good Integration with One Problem

Michael from Virginia Beach, VA on 5/2/2018

I've added 3 Play:1's to my home, and I am really enjoying the Sonos ecosystem. My final step has been to add my home entertainment system, and enjoy my Definitive Technologies speakers too. I purchased the Sonos Connect for this goal. Overall, it works very well. My one complaint is that there is a great discrepancy between the volume of the Sonos Connect as an input, and every other component like CD, DVD, or TV. If you search the Sonos Community, this is a known issue that lots of folks are not happy about. Sonos needs to fix this with a software patch or something. It doesn't effect me too much because I rarely use other inputs. I don't watch TV often, and now that I have my music all in the Sonos ecosystem, I have no need to use my CD player or any other music source.

Pros: Integrates existing home A/V equipment seamlessly

Cons: Volume discrepancy between this input and other components Price- this is basically a WiFi bridge that should be $100 or less.

Crutchfield advisor Dallas recommended the Sonos Connect as a solution for a completely outdated whole house audio system. He recommended pairing five Sonos Connects with five AudioSource AD1002 and five Russound ALT126R - it is a really nice solution for an already wired house built on an out-of-date system. The five Sonos Connects power speakers in 8 rooms. Dallas also recommended pairing an Audio Engine W3 wireless adapter on my outdoor TV, connected back through a Connect input to tap into my wired outdoor speakers. The best part, it just works. Dallas's explanations on set-up and wiring were on point and the whole set-up process for an unsophisticated DIY'r like myself was simple. It took longer to unpack all of the gear then it did to set it up. The Sonos Connects are simple to use for the whole family. And, again - they just work. Plug 'em in. Open the app. Follow the prompts. And, they work. Wouldn't it be nice if all tech was this easy?

Overall the connect works very well but the associated app has issues.

Pros: Simple to setup and for the most part works very well. Great sound.

Cons: App is iffy. The screen should show what is playing when the phone is locked. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. Biggest complaint is that there is no way to disassociate the Connect's volume from my iPad volume. If I have the Connect set to max, my iPad volume goes to max and blows out my speaker when I go to different app. Very annoying.

This is a great product. I bought it to feed the audio from my XM SkiFi receiver to my Sonos wireless speakers. It only took a few minutes to set up and it works like a charm. Now I have satellite radio throughout the house! Crutchfield's service was awesome, as usual!

Pros: Easily feeds analog audio outputs from TVs, stereos, etc. to your Sonos system. Easy to set up.

Cons: You can't really fault the Sonos CONNECT for this, but while it enables you to pipe your analog audio output to your wireless Sonos speakers throughout your home it doesn't enable you to control the analog source from anywhere in the home. In my case I have an XM Skyfi receiver connected to it. If I want to change the channel on the XM receiver I have to go to the room where the XM receiver is located.

This is an update to a previous review. Compared to Sonos, the integration of iTunes is weak; only airplay is available; can not control iTunes from app; can not search music library; Pandora's implementation is not very good compared to Sonos; no desktop app. Musiccast via browser app does not sync with mobile devises. The sound quality is excellent and has more connection options than Sonos. A lot more control over sound output vis mobile app than Sonos. My guess is if your music is iTunes dependent you are not going to like it, but if you use other music players then this product will work nicely for you. I like the product; also nice looking but the lack of a search function was a deal killer for me.

Pros: Lots of connections possible, well made, great sound via optical

Cons: No search function

My iPhone is no longer held hostage streaming music; now it's just a remote control. With the Sonos app, I play iHeartRadio and my 200+ CD collection from a USB NAS drive. The music quality is significantly better than my former AirPlay/Air Port Express setup. This is probably due to using my NAD T752 DAC, which is only possible because of the Sonos digital output. Plan to expand with Connect:Amp and passive speakers upstairs. It's all good.

Pros: Extremely versatile Easy setup Quality music delivery One stop shopping app

I added this Sonos Connect to my main system. I had one already for the backyard rock speakers. As usual, Sonos Connect hooked to my existing Sonos system and worked perfectly. One of the main advantages is creating "zones" , in my case only 2 areas, the Patio and the Living room make for a multiple zone. Going from the Living room to the Patio with no audio delay with any music is just perfect. Highly recommend this product to anyone serious about creating zones of audio anywhere in your home or outside the home. Worth every penny!!

Pros: Easy set up Numerous streaming options Having family and friends be able to stream music from their cellphones using the Sonos app.

Cons: None yet........

After getting a somewhat astronomical estimate from a local outfit to upgrade my stereo system to a Sonos-based one, I decided to call Bob at Crutchfield to see if he had any suggestions to find a more economical solution. After he asked what I wanted to accomplish and exactly what I already had in place, he recommended the Sonos Connect unit based upon my needs. The unit was relatively easy to hook up, and has about 90% of the functionality of what the other guys suggested. I saved a ton of money, and couldn't be happier that I called Crutchfield. Bob and Crutchfield rock!

This was the perfect solution for my requirements. Installing 2 Sonos Connects allows me to easily stream Spotify/iTunes /NAS files, etc. through my existing Home Theater setup (which also controls wired whole house and back yard audio) as well as a separate existing stereo in my family room. The music is perfectly in sync in every zone; seamless sound inside and out, and it is all controllable from my phone. After installing the Connects, I purchased a Play 3 speaker to fill in a dead spot in kitchen. The cost can add up, but very satisfied with this solution for my needs.

Pros: Simple set up, very easy control.

Great setup and worth the money BUT the delay can be annoying

Works great! I've been searching for a solution for years and this is it! Easy to get wireless music all over and to pull from my network server where my personal music files are stored. The app to control is awesome and other than some MINOR annoyances i just have to get used to, it's extremely user friendly. Pro- ease of use, app, ability to connect to ALL music files and locations even in an unusual environment. Con- Setup was easy once I learned the problem. SONOS only works on the 2Ghz wireless setting... I tried for over an hour to connect to 5 Ghz before something finally popped up and told me that. This would be helpful information in today's world! Con- When connect is pumped through your home audio receiver, it has a delay because the audio receiver processes the sound which takes time. This is not a SONOS problem, BUT defeats the purpose of the "mesh" for all speakers... Sonos REALLY needs to add an option to their other speakers to delay the sound. So if you want to mesh the home audio with other sonos speakers this WILL be a problem and you need to avoid the connect and go with their ridiculously expensive home theater package instead. I have other Sonos speakers in other rooms and the delay isn't an issue, but I can't add more Sonos near my home theater setup because of this problem. Other than that, this system is a dream come true... better than I expected it to be!!

I am glad that I didn't read any of the "professional" reviews for the Connect before I purchased one. My experience has been just the opposite of theirs. Most of these reviews were old and possibly Sonos has made some upgrades to it. I do not know. What I do know is detailed below. I purchased the Connect to replace an aging - but still functioning - AppleTv Gen 1. My system (Anthem Statement D2, Bel Canto Ref-150S amp & Martin Logan Ascent speakers) always sounded a little bright and occasionally harsh on some recordings with the AppleTv. Not with the Connect. Every piece of music that I have listened to has sounded much better. There is nothing that is harsh. Detail has improved. My system is now playing music, not tracks. Setup was easy as pie. I was a bit concerned when the volume was low, just like I had read in some reviews, but the Connect has a feature installed called a Volume Control that fixes that problem. Amazing! I was also pleased to find the setting in the app that sets the output to "fixed". Very nice! The one disappointment in this piece is that it will not play anything with a sample rate above 44k. I was hoping to be able to play 96 and 192k FLAC files, but Sonos tech support says that this is not possible. If I had known this before I purchased it, I probably would have purchased something else that would play these files. As it turns out, I am still very happy with it and what it does do.

Pros: Sounds far better than its price suggests App is fine

Cons: No Hi-Res playback App could use a little more work An IR remote would be nice

Needed simple solution for source material. CD collection was a mess, PC needs too much attention so it was between sonos and bluesound. Only reason for considering Bluesound was press regarding Bluesound having better DAC and higher resolution. I wasn't sure if sonos sound would meet my needs but I can tell you that I have Revel f208s and Yamaha integrated and when it's a good recording I do not believe 99% of the population could tell what the streaming rate is or the price of the streamer. I'm sure Bluesound is fine too but don't buy based on hype around stream rates etc...buy best sounding speakers to your ears then amp. Modest cables and Sonos...skip CD player, PC and high end DAC & media servers unless your going to spend north of $10,000

Pros: Simple to use. It works the way it should. Sound is good to very good.

Cons: Why not offer higher resolution option? Why not have audiophile grade DAC option? How hard would it be to add utube?

Once set up it does exactly what it says it will do. I've set up a Sono Bridge, Play 5, Play 3 and multiple Play 1s. This Connect was never recognized. Took two days and numerous posts to Sonos forum to get it going. I love the Sonos software and overall architecture, plus the ease of use. Just wish I did not waste most of my weekend getting it to see the rest of the system. Crutchfield support was great, as usual. Line out sound is a bit on the low side. You will need to turn the volume on your tuner/pre/amp way up. That makes it a bit annoying when switching sources. Overall I like it but for the money I wish it just worked out of the box like other sonos products and the output was higher.

Pros: Simple, does what it says

Cons: Set up Output is low

The Sonos system works very well, drastically simplifying the chaos that was once whole-house audio. Rather than mucking with our receiver, volume controls, sources, power amps, etc. each time we want to fire up sound in one of the rooms of our house, we can simply access the named room via the Sonos app, select what we want to play, and play it. When you dedicate a Sonos Connect device to each room, you gain built-in volume/mute control per-room, eliminating the need for other less elegant solutions (e.g. elaborate remote control systems or in-wall switches). The app is simple to use, and my wife has no trouble with it after a brief introduction. We had some minor hiccups during the initial setup when our Sonos initially refused to connect. After factory resetting the device and uninstalling/reinstalling the app, it finally synced up and we haven't had a problem since. Because the Sonos device would initially get recognized and only fail further down the setup process during the final connection, I am reasonably certain that the fault was with the Sonos, though it does appear to be resolved. My only complaint about the system is its price-tag. A single zone audio source costing $350 without amplification is quite expensive, even when weighted against its benefits. I would gladly purchase several more of these if they were more practically priced, say $150~$200, but at the current pricing it is hard to justify adding a dedicated device to rarely used z

Pros: Simple zoned audio control Support for virtually ALL music sources and providers Decentralized - no server required. Everything can be connected and run from the App.

Cons: Had to factory reset device multiple times to get set up Quite pricey still - limits the number of zones you can reasonably purchase this for

I have been using SONOS products for over 5 years now slowly increasing my inventory of devices. Currently our house has several play 3's, a couple play 1's, a play 5 and now the CONNECT. From my first experience with the SONOS system I have been impressed with how easy it is to use and how flexible it allows us to be with our music collections. Over the years, the SONOS software has only gotten better. I bought the CONNECT for use in our hopefully soon to be home theater system. Until that happens, it is attached to an amplified GENELEC speaker system and the combo sounds awesome. I also love the ability to pipe my own source into the CONNECT and control it through the SONOS app. The CONNECT is managed like any of the other SONOS components which makes for a seamless experience.

Pros: Easy to use, great sound, lots of connection options. Quality product.

Cons: Runs a little warmer than I think it should when sitting idle.

For the past 4 years I've had a blended whole house audio system with 3 Sonos Connects as Audio sources and an HTD whole house system (controller, amps, keypads in each room) driving audio. Overtime I've continue to add Sonos Connect Amps to add to my system as my needs expanded to new spaces. In my opinion, Sonos is unmatched in terms of the flexibility to expand a whole house system. Plus I find the components simple, straight-forward and reliable. We now have 15 music zones controlled through a combination of Sonos Connects, Sonos Connect Amps and a Clare Controls Amp 1640. It's pretty much a flawless system in my geeky, gear head view. My wife differs a bit. In my wife's view, she liked the keypads in every room vs going to the iPhone or ipad to turn on or off music or raise or lower volume. She also liked that keypads could more quickly enable playing the same source in different rooms. She knows how to use Sonos well, but just doesn't want to find or carry her phone around with her to adjust volume or group rooms. She has a point. I yearn for the day that Sonos can be controlled by Echo. "Echo play my Spofity Happy Day playlist is Sonos zones Kitchen, Family Room and Master Bedroom" or "Echo lower Sonos volume in Master Bedroom." Echo Dot makes this a possibility. I am geek. (Read in your best Groot voice) I

Pros: Flexibility Variable or fixed audio control Grouping to play same audio in different rooms Interfaces with all popular internet music sources Audio input if you absolutely must play vinyl or CD based music through the house Lots of component options... Sound Bar, Play:1/3/5 Speakers, Connect, Connect Amp to meet nearly any configuration need

Cons: Require smart phone, tablet or computer to control audio, volume or group Not yet controllable by Echo

I own several Sonos speakers. I wanted to add my surround system to the Sonos network and thought this would be great. Unfortunately you have to turn the volume up very high on the receiver to get any sound out of the speakers. Then you calibrate the Sonos volume. My issue here is that when the receiver switches to TV the volume blasts. Since we have several users of our TV, this isn't feasible. I used the optical output to my Aux in.

I did extensive research on ordering a product for our school weight room. I wanted something that could be accessed by authorized staff and that was capable of playing a wide variety of music. The Sonos seemed like the perfect product for me. One hang up was that our amplifier and mixer were installed in 2007 when the school was built. The newer products are set up a little different for hook up then what we had here at the school. When I was deciding on the Sonos, one of my main factors was Customer Care and having someone, not only that I could talk to and get help from, but someone that I could understand. I received both from Crutchfield. They were extremely helpful, patient and educated about their products. They were honest with what I needed and didn't need and did not attempt to sell me on things that were not necessary for me.

I purchased several Bluesound products hoping to set up an awesome system. Sonos is user friendly, connects to existing systems with no problem, and I could access my iTunes music from my computer with ease. It took me several hours attempting with Bluesound (and finally email communication because they don't speak to customers) to find out that it didn't work with macs. To say the least, I am SO happy Sonos took about 15 minutes to set up: my entire iTunes library (most of which was simply waiting for the library to download), Connect, Boost, and Play 5 to my existing system. Sonos also offers an app for the Mac that we have used over the last two weeks with similar success. This app is available for download from the Sonos web site and not via the Apple App Store.

Pros: Quality construction. Worked out of the box. Quality app for both iOS and Mac.

Cons: Price. That's the reason for the four out of five stars rating.

I was a bit leery about the sonos system. In the stores, I wasn't sure that I would be happy with the sound quality. After consulting with the advisors at Crutchfield, I decided that running a connect through my existing system (HK receiver,Energy bookshelf speakers) would be the way to go. I also added a Peachtree DACItx to the setup along with a sonos bridge and play 3 in my home office. I am really pleased with the sound output through regular streaming services (Pandora, Amazon Music. etc.) The product meets or exceed expectations. As they are noted for, the SONOS app is a breeze. I am a happy customer and was well pleased with the advice from the Crutchfield staff through the decision making process.

Pros: simple setup, relatively small footprint, good sound through my existing system

I was hesitant to spend this amount of money for a hardware piece that is worth a quarter of that. But after trying Toslink out of Roku, the problem is running the software that works your way. I tried Plex and Emby and they were flat out refusing to read some of the ID tags or just skipped some rips all together. Clients were flaky as well. Getting Sonos was me giving up on doing things on a tight budget. I can tell you that the money is in the software here. It works, it is intuitive, it can be run on anything hardware wise. Do I wish Sonos supported high resolution files - yes. But with a mid level DAC, the WAV rips sound as close to great as possible and my life is finally simple. I can store CD's in the garage and join the 21st century while getting instant access to all my music.

Pros: Simple, reliable

Cons: Cost

I had to replace a Whole house sound system Amplifier/controller which died after four years!!! Replacement meant buying a new unit and paying a dealer to install and program it. The Sonos product was able to replace the whole system for a few dollars more for the hardware. The programming and set up were a snap. Sonos leads you thru the set up. I was able to connect the Music Server to the Sonos connect and the Home Theater receiver/Amp video receiver to the Sonos connect Amp. Between the music service apps, music on our computers, Music server, Smart TV, Satellite TV and the Home Theater receiver/Amp we have more music choices that ever.

I have been more than pleased with the Sonos Connect. My intended use of the Sonos Connect was to stream music to a heritage high end (McIntosh) stereo system. My first concern was sound quality for streaming music, and my second was the flexibility of using my laptop and Iphone as remotes. My expectations were exceeded in terms of the quality of the sound. It is extremely lifelike, and a huge improvement over simply having a direct connection from the laptop or phone to the pre amp. I am using the new Tidal streaming service primarily and it seems to be a perfect match with the Sonos quality, since it streams at a much higher rate than ordinary music services. At least as good as CD quality to my ears. I should add that I had some concern as to whether the built in DAC in the Sonos was of sufficient quality. My initial impression is a resounding yes. The sound on my system is very crisp and lifelike and does not display any murkiness as noted in another review. Finally I should add that I do not use the Sonos speakers in different rooms, but rather use my heritage system in my main listening room and a Soundcast Outcast speaker as the remote portable speaker, which is fed through a line out in the Macintosh pre amp to its I Cast wireless transmitter.

Pros: Quality of the sound. Perfect companion for high quality streaming service such as Tidal. The remote functions of Sonos are great as well.

Cons: None that I can see.

Jon from California on 2/15/2015

This product was perfect for my needs. In fact, I liked the first so much, I bought another so that I could separately control certain zones in my house. I have an eight zone amp with wired connections to speakers in various zones in my house. I have a very long house, so I need a wireless router and wireless access point to provide full coverage. I had some issues controlling the Sonos Connect from the access point -- the Connect would periodically just "disappear" from the network. Sonos tech support was very patient (escalated to the highest level tech), but ultimately was unable to solve my issue. Subsequently, after swapping the location of my router and access point, the system is now stable. Now the Connect joins the network via the access point and the dhcp router is at the far end of the house. I think this works because the Connect must now continually renew its IP lease via the access point to the router. In my prior configuration, I think the Connect got "lazy," since it was connected directly to the dhcp router, at which point the access point could no longer find it ... as I told Sonos tech support, that's just my theory, but it works.

Pros: Easy to configure in simple network situation. Adding additional Connects is a breeze. Good iPad and Android app, and desktop program.

Cons: Installing in complex network configuration can be challenging. App/desktop program does not accurately index music on your NAS devices. Some of my albums/songs are not properly found by artist/composer, or genera. I have to browse my Music Library to find the applicable folder. That works if I remember I have the album, otherwise I have no easy way to find it from the app/desktop program.

I am an old school audiophile with a Harmon Kardon stereo receiver, JBL bookshelf speakers, and a turntable. I am slowly entering the 21st century having put my CD collection on my IPOD and playing it through my 'stereo system'. I am a SiriusXM radio subscriber and was looking for a way to listen to SiriusXM and internet radio on my stereo. Sonos Connect is it. Connect provides the SiriusXM app connection as well as Pandora and Spotify, as well as a host of other subscription services, too many to mention. In addtion, there are lots of free internet radio stations that can also be played. Music, talk, politics, etc., are all available. There are really more that I have time to listen to but I am sure I will try most of them over time. Set up was pretty easy, not much in the way of printed instructions but the web instructions were pretty good. I set up the control app on my IPAD, which I use for control, and also on my desktop computer where my music collection is stored. I had some trouble adding the links for SiriusXM, Spotify, and Pandora from my IPAD and having them show up as available. I had to add them using the desktop and then the links showed up on the IPAD, not sure why exactly, but it worked that way. Overall, I am very pleased with Connect and have already been considering adding another Sonos speaker or two, but haven't decided yet. I would recommend it highly.

Pros: Pretty simple setup. Kinda pricey, but a better solution with more options that buying a new receiver.

Cons: Very limited printed install instructions.

Once you get this thing set up, it works like a dream. If you can't figure out how to do it on your own, however, you're out of luck. The instructions are minimal and vague, even to the point of being unclear as to whether or not you hook up at "output" or "input" on the back of the speaker. Also, it is inexcusable that it only comes in white. If only one color, it should be black. That said, however, it works wonderfully well once you get it hooked up.

HemiSam from TEXAS on 12/12/2014

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

It is a well thought out product, for the most part. Setup was easy, although they're marketing higher resolution streaming services recently as they recognize this is a growing market. Their forum is lit up with customer comments about wanting the flexibility to play higher resolution files than just mp3 quality. So they signed on Deezer Elite, which is the only reason I finally got comfortable buying the Connect. It proved difficult to set up Deezer and get it to work on the Sonos app because nowhere in the instructions did it indicate you needed to do that on your laptop vs my iPad mini or my iPhone...figured it out on my own after a while. It's white or white...sticks out pretty good in my living room. Black would be a nice option, like on the Sonos player I purchased at the same time. I use my Connect to pump digital files to my external DAC (digital to analog converter) and send that analog signal to an amplifier that powers good quality headphones. The Deezer Elite provides 16bit/44Hz files (think CD's ripped at their actual file size/resolution...not a compressed format where details are lost) to the Connect...what I had been waiting for. Beats is 320kbps and while that's OK, it's not great with higher quality equipment. Anyhoo...I'm glad I purchased the Connect but I think Sonos is slow to respond to a market that is going, and when there is a flood of competition on their doorstep. The Deezer Elite option is only reason I bought a Sonos.

Pros: wireless, reliable connection, fairly user friendly graphical user interface (GUI)

Cons: few higher quality streaming options and late to that game, white or white, somewhat pricey for what you get

So things like Pandora, on line radio stations and music on your computer can be played on your stereo. I can also use my turntable and CD and Cassett players and all Speakers in the house can now play the same music or have different speakers playing different things. If you have a radio station you like it can be played over the Sonos network, with all the clarity that you get with digital source as apposed to over the air transmissions. The connection was very easy and it is simple to operate. This is the way the other systems should operate, under a very open platform. Now I can use a real to real tape deck or any other input to get music in to deliver it to all speakers in the house or outside.

Pros: Easy to install, easy to use. Music that is coming from any source or another input sounds good, and no lag time from Sonos speakers to speakers connected to the main stereo.

Cons: Software was a little tough to work around, but one call to tech support with Sonos they were able to get me going in about 3 min. Tech support is great and they will help anytime you need it.

This is the third Sonos CONNECT that I have purchased over the past three years. That in and of itself should be enough of a review. I highly recommend all of the SONOS products. I started at Christmas of 2011 with a SONOS Connect, SONOS Bridge and a SONOS Controller. I used the Connect as an input for my home office component stereo system. I live on the outskirts of Pittsburgh, and radio reception is marginal. I used Terk amplified antennas to help, but varying atmospheric conditions made reception spotty. We live in an area of rolling hills. Plus frankly, the local over the air radio stations are going down hill and not playing my preferred music much any more. I bought these to stream Pandora and other services such as iHeart Radio, and stream from my computer and iPhone. This lead to a second CONNECT and a PLAY:5 "Radio" for the master bedroom and kitchen, respectfully. The second Connect is used with a home theatre amp in the master bedroom, and the radio in the kitchen gets more play than any other. Their PLAY:5 is awesome - Bose cannot compare. Then I bought a second PLAY:5 for my real office (with a free bridge) last Christmas along with a PLAY 3 as a "roamer" for washing the cars, out on the deck/patio, and when in the shower. I just got the third CONNECT for the surround sound in the sunroom. The next purchase will be the SONOS sound bar and sub to replace the Polk Audio ones in the family room. The SONOS uses your iPhone or Android phone to control.

Pros: Extremely easy to set up, and with the latest version of the Controller App, you can easily control several different SONOS System Networks (Home and Office, etc). That used to be difficult, but they listened to their customers and corrected that. Amazingly great sound from their "radios" PLAY:5 and PLAY:3. I do not have a PLAY:1 so I cannot honestly comment on that one.

Cons: A little pricey, and forget about discounts. Like Apple products. But I have to say they are worth every penny. I would have replaced my Polk Sound Bar for my LED TV, as its proprietary remote sucks and it will not integrate with my Samsung TV, but the SONOS Sound Bar and Sub are $1398 and the Polk unit does work and sounds good, so it is hard to justify. $999 for the pair and I would jump...

The Sonos system and hardware are second to none. That said their software is decidedly anti-Microsoft. Their Windows desktop controller software is looking dated. They have no Windows 8 support. Absolutely nothing for RT or Winphone. The third part app is ok for Winphone but the RT app is unusable. So if you are a Windows user prepare to be a little frustrated. Sonos recently had a survey for Windows users to tell them what we would want in a controller and they have new Mac and Android controllers scheduled. Lets hope they follow up with a new Windows app. I swore I wasn't going to get another Sonos product until they had full Windows support. I was using a laptop in the basement in order to wireless send music to my stereo but alas it had XP. With XP support gone away I didnt want a potentially unsecure computer on my network

Pros: Versatility Internet music Ability to access NAS

Cons: Lack of Windows support

I would give the Sonos Connect a high recommendation based on the ability to reliably stream music to various parts of your home. For me, I got a Connect so I could integrate Sonos into my existing stereo system. Set-up was quick & easy, and the apps control the player through any tablet or smart phone, including a desktop PC. I would prefer a screen like the logitech squeezebox touch, which I also own, but I like that Sonos is not being discontinued like the SBT, and like its reliance on a proprietary mesh network to increase coverage and decrease wifi congestion.

Pros: Easy to us; integrates well with existing components. Reliably works.

Cons: No screen, 65k song limit, inability to play higher resolution files (e.g. 96/24).

Interface is beyond five star - easy, easy, easy. So much you can do with playlists. You can be playing any song anyone names within 10 seconds or less - even if you don't have the album, or never heard of the artist, thanks to spotify. Only reason I didn't give five stars is because they don't support hi resolution audio.

Pros: The interface - sound quality is very good (CD Quality) but not DVD or Blue Ray quality fidelity. Can synchronize many sonos players (party mode) or control independently.

Cons: Resolution is limited to CD quality max, regardless of source resolution.

A little history. I've been using Rhapsody for years, allowing me to stream music to my computers, MP3 players, and more recently, iOS devices. Works great, and I love that you can download music to portable devices for a low monthly price. Recently, I started a HUGE DIY project, which is a 13 zone A/V system for my home. I am using two matrix switches, one is an HDMI 8x8 matrix with SPDIF switching incorporated, and the other is an analog RGB 8x8 video switch with stereo analog audio. Short story long, I originally decided NOT to use a SONOS because I would have to switch between the SONOS app and an iRULE system to control the volume (so I thought, I understand that iRULE is coming out with a SONOS inset soon that will integrate this limitation away.) So I bought a ROKU player and decided that I would use SPOTIFY on this box instead. All was fine with this, and the ROKU works well, but the SPOTIFY app within ROKU is nothing like their PC based interface. It's essentially too much work to keep a flow of music going when I'm trying to accomplish other things. It's a no-go. So, I ponied up the money and took a plunge with the SONOS, having heard great things. Couldn't be happier right now. Came home from a trip last night at 2 am and found the Crutchfield box on the kitchen island, and 15 minutes later I was sitting in my living room chair streaming music via SPDIF digital into my Yamaha's DACs feeding my B&W speakers. Best component I've ever bought

Pros: Seamless integration with all your digital sources... Rhapsody, Spotify, Pandora, and computer music files in my case. I am just using one Sonos Connect and feeding 13 zones, 8 are feeding analog stereo zones and the other 5 are feeding digital (via SPDIF). You should know by looking at the picture this box doesn't have any video capability and therefore no HDMI. I am feeding an HDMI matrix via SPDIF inputs that makes this possible for me. SPDIF output simultaneously works with analog L/R.

Cons: I'm having a problem getting the digital TOSLINK to work with the Yamaha, but don't jump off a cliff yet. I think I'm doing something wrong with my receiver or have a bad cable. Still troubleshooting. Also a possibility that the optical output is turned off when the SONOS output volume is set to "variable", but I don't know the answer to this because there really isn't much of a manual to speak of. Biggest con for SONOS is that they don't do HD video the same way. Pretty please???

Great Device for Home Audio System

MGreene from Knoxville, TN on 1/3/2014

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

This is an absolutely great device to mix into a home audio system. It's a lot like having an almost inexhaustible music collection to choose from. You can choose artists, composers, songs, etc., even from many of the free music services Sonos connects to. The sound quality is great, plus the device does not take up the space required for the typical tuner or CD player, or whatever. You can even build your own music collection on your PC and search for selections out of it. The device is great, but the software that you interact with is superb and is extremely well thought out. It's quick and easy, and, if you just want to listen to one of the many thousands of radio stations it can access, you simply select that station, tell it to play and listen for hours. You can power down your system, come back the next day, turn it on, and you're right back with the station you were using before.

Pros: This can take the place of a tuner, a CD player, or whatever else you use to select music, news, comedy, or whatever you can find on the thousands of places you'll be able to access.

Cons: I can't think of any. The cost is certainly reasonable.

I love my Sonos system! I started with a Play:5 about a year ago and used its line out to feed my stereo. I recently purchased the Connect to serve this purpose - for which it is designed, and free up the Play:5 to be portable around the house. Using the Connect is great. It connects to my Onkyo tuner with a fiber optic digital connection, which gives excellent sound quality through my KEF speakers (some users add a DAC, but I find it is not really necessary) Others may argue about the sound quality, but I have no problems - I think that my system is well balanced, and a few minor adjustments on the Sonos EQ, as well as the tuner's Bass and Treble gives me bright full sound. The Sonos setup is simple and barring any obstacles - such as firewall settings- you can have your first component unpacked and playing music in about 15 minutes (adding a new component to an existing system takes less than 5 minute from opening box to having sound!). Sonos requires a direct internet connection (plug into your router) to access streaming internet music and a NAS to have your own music library operate independent of a computer. Love it!

Pros: Easy to set up Easy to expand simple design fully integrated

Cons: no real issues I have come across yet price may be an obstacle for some but it you have probably spent more on less in the past

Great to Expand A/V Zone Coverage

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Works as advertised and then some ... The documentation highlights how the CONNECT hooks to your existing receiver and expands it functionality by providing access to your Rip Libraries, iTunes and a great number of internet music services. Yet for me the best feature is that the CONNECT also allows you to expand the coverage of sound sources connected to your A/V receiver. The Analog Inputs allowed me to connect the Sonos CONNECT to the Zone2/3 output of my Yamaha RX-A2000 A/V receiver. I do not need to run speaker wires from my Yamaha A/V to my Patio, or anywhere else outside the Home Theater room. By just turning on my AV Zone 2, any source (local radios stations, CD, DVD, Blue Ray, selection on the A/V, is automatically & wirelessly send to my Sonos speakers This is the one feature that made me happy as I needed a way to expand my A/V coverage to my Terrace Patio and it was impossible to run speaker Wires. Plus, although my A/V provided me with services like Pandora, Rhapsody and SIRUS, the CONNECT now allows me to expand the range of option that I can enjoy on my A/V

Pros: -easy installation -lets you expand your A/V with internet music services -analog input allows Sonos speakers to connect to A/V Zones, and expand the coverage of the music sources connected to your A/V system

Cons: Expensive solution

Enjoy my Sonos connect. My only concern was in downloading HD Tacks to my iTunes account. I wanted to listen to HD tracks from Sonos thru iTunes. I was able to load HD tracks to the Sonus but they would not play. Keep getting info from Sonos that said the HD Tracks was not supported. Contacted Sonos and was told that they don't support 24 bit music. That was disappointing to hear but I will get over it. I will connect my laptop using Audioquest Dragonfly 96/24 DAC to the input of my McIntosh amp and listen to my HD Tracks that way. Much better sound anyway

Wow! I have installed whole home automation and music systems for years, this one is by far the best music product. Very simple to install with or without built in speakers, the unit links automatically and merges with iTunes seamlessly. Tech support superior and very responsive. ( I called tech support because I knew I had missed something, it was all too easy)

Pros: Ease of use

Cons: Connects don't work with sub.

I have had Sonos in my house for almost two years. We have a connect unit as a source into our existing multiroom sound system. I love the freedom to change music from our iPad from anywhere in the house. The latest units I ordered were for a friend. After seeing our system they HAD to have one.

Pros: Easy to set up and even easier to use.

Cons: I am waiting for the Play 3 to have an aux in independent of the network that I can use it away from home with my iPod as a source.

Suggested by a Crutchfield Advisor, this little gem allows me to play music through my stereo receiver from my computer. Virtually any source on the computer plays seamlessly. Been looking for this solution for a long time. Chimp easy to set up and best of all, your mobile device is the controller - from anywhere within Wi-Fi range. Awesome!

Pros: Easy to set up. Just works as advertised.

Cons: None.

Replaced my old sound system

I was a bit concerned when I decided to replace my old Bose Sound Dock with the Sonos system for two reasons: 1) I was concerned the Sonos might not sound as good and 2) my family is used to the Sound Docks and I was not sure the iPhone app would be as simple. Turns out my concrens were completely unfounded. The wireless sound is excellent and the iPhone and iPad apps are top notch. I particularly like being able to stream from both the i-device AND my iTunes library on hard drive. Top notch and a breeze to install.

Pros: A breeze to setup and sounds great

Cons: Your teenagers can change your music!

Works as expected

Pros: Easy and quick set up in less than 5 minutes to existing Sonos system.

Cons: Pricey, only $50 less than Play 5, and $50 more than Play 3,why? It's just Sonos guts without speakers. Granted here are more I/O choices.
