Marantz's versatile music machine

Looking for a stereo receiver with more onboard music options than just the AM and FM radio bands? Then check out the Marantz M-CR611. Sure, the AM/FM tuner is there. But you'll also find a built-in CD player, wireless network capability, Bluetooth, and Apple AirPlay to extend your listening choices far beyond local radio stations. It's all underneath the hood of a compact chassis — perfect for a bedroom, office, dorm room, or den, anywhere you may not have room for separate components.

So many wireless listening options...

With built-in Wi-Fi, the M-CR611 will wirelessly stream music even if your router isn't within reach, so you can play music from networked computers, online music services like Pandora® and Spotify®, or free Internet radio stations from around the world. Built-in Bluetooth makes it super-easy to stream tunes from a smartphone, tablet, and even some computers without a home network.

Due to changes implemented by Pandora, this receiver is temporarily unable to connect to the Pandora service. A firmware update to resolve this issue is currently available.

Apple AirPlay allows you to enjoy songs from your iPhone® and iPad®, or from iTunes® on your Mac® or PC. Or if you'd prefer the simple convenience of CDs, just pop one into this unit's built-in player. That's a whole lot of music choices built into a single compact component that can make your speakers sing with legendary Marantz sound.

And plenty of connections for your other stuff, too

This versatile Marantz also offers plenty of inputs for your analog and digital sources, so you can connect a separate disc player or even the audio from your TV. Front- and rear-panel USB ports are perfect for mass storage devices loaded up with digital music files, including high-res audio with sampling rates up to 24-bit/192kHz, as well as DSD files. Or plug your iPod or iPhone into the front port for digital playback using this receiver's high-quality digital decoding. You'll also find aconvenient output for a powered subwoofer, in case you need to augment the bass response of your bookshelf speakers.

Control it with your smartphone or tablet

This little receiver does a lot, and it's easy to control with the Marantz Remote app for Apple® and Android™ devices. Download this free app to your smartphone, so you can get your music playing the second you walk in the room. The app lets you choose from hundreds of free Internet radio streams, play tunes from your music server, or even control your iPod when it's plugged into the receiver.

Very happy with my new Marantz. The sound is amazing, the features are awesome and I'm very happy with my decision. Adam, my Crutchfield rep assured me that despite the comparatively low power rating, that the unit would drive my 14 ceiling speakers. He was right!

Fine hardware -- could use better intstructions

Dave from Kensington, MD on 5/3/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The unit works well. I haven't had any FM reception problems like other folks. Setting it up posed a few challenges. It turns out that the unit only recognizes 2.4 GHz networks which the documentation doesn't mention. And the easiest way to modify settings is to do a complete reset from the menu (not following the advice on the web for pushing power and volume buttons). After the 2.4 GHz network issue, it set up very easily following the directions for using an iOS device and the Quickstart menu. It may be safest to give it a static IP address . I had a problem after I did some network updating. I tried to update the IP on the unit manually and that didn't work -- so how well does it really handle DHCP -- not sure. The App is better than the remote especially when using a music server since it's much easier to navigate your library. Very nice compact unit. I wanted to downsize from many big boxes. I use it with KEFSL30s and it sounds great.

Pros: Compact high quality all in one

Cons: Manual is missing critical information.

not a reliable unit

fred from California on 4/22/2018

bought the unit about 2 years ago for my office. after six months the cd player stopped working so I was just using the unit for FM radio. Last week The receiver died and would not power up. I took it to a certified Marantz repair shop and was told it will cost more to fix the receiver than it costs. What a waste of money for just listening to FM radio.

Pros: good sound

Cons: short usable life

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I did considerable research and this and the cambridge audio were the only 2 options that worked for my application. I purchased an open box unit and it came in flawless shape. I was dismayed to have to print out the instruction manual since the "quick guide" was useless. Anyway, I was able to get the internet radio up and running quickly - XM and Pandora. FM was also a breeze to set up. Apple AIRPLAY worked ok; but there were some challenges because my iPhone 7 did not have an "Airplay" option. There are two areas where I am a little dismayed. The use of memory stick or a USB hard drive with music did not work well in the USB input. For some reason, the file structure that I used did not work well with the Marantz. As for accessing files on my computer (I made the connection via Ethernet cable) I was unable to get the Marantz to "point" to the places on my network where files are stored. I will continue to research and maybe call Crutchfield for help. All in all, this is a very capable unit. I suspect that better instructions on the two points which I raised above will go a long way. The other functions were easy to install. BTW, the iPhone App that goes along with the unit works but it takes a long time to populate the file structure/options. I have super high speed internet so I'm not sure that the App is that well designed. The supplied remote is quite good. I would say this is probably the best, most fully-featured unit

Not likening it. Why do I need a computer to play a cd? And I bought this for a 94 year old. There is no way she will be able to use it.

Incredibly versitile machine and so easy to set up and use. Replaced my family room complete stereo setup along wtih a Bose Bluetooh with this one handy unit. Plenty of power for a smaller space and love the convenient built in CD for those times you want that pure sound.

Just what I was looking for!

Travis from Stafford, NY on 2/22/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Recently bought this unit as I was looking for a small, feature filled all in one type system. I had started my search considering things like the Bose WAV and Bose Soundstream but decided I wanted more flexibility to add some better speakers. I was then drawn to things like the Denon M41 and other micro type systems but they'll all seemed to be lacking features that I wanted. As a result, I kept coming back to this Marantaz. I wanted a unit with CD, USB (that would handle losless formats), bluetooth and internet capabilities and this unit really does it all while providing the flexibility with speakers I was looking for. So far, the unit has met all my needs and has done exactly what I wanted. I haven't even fully taken advantage of many of the airplay and network type features. And I also haven't gotten upgraded speakers yet and am currently using it with 20 year old bookshelf speakers and it still sounds fine. The only real negative for me is the price. Overall, I think this is a nice choice for somebody that wants something a little nicer and a little more flexible than a Bose but still wants a compact, all in one type unit who doesn't have the desire to deal with multiple components.

Pros: CD player USB that plays lossless formats; front and back usb connections Bluetooth Internet radio streaming Sounds great for a small all in one type system

Cons: Price Manual included is terrible; look online

Pleased beyond words!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my second Marantz receiver and I'm just as pleased with it as with my previous one, which I bought in 1975 and which just recently bit the dust. (No typo, that was 43 years ago, a model 2230) I was a little apprehensive about the tight integration with wifi and the internet, but hey, I'm an engineer so that wasn't the problem, but it was more "is this really hi-fi device like my old one, or another computer?" Well, it's both, but thankfully, the primary function, playing music, is truly great! I'm just listening to my old digitized records via Airplay from my iPhone, and they've never sounded better! Even my 1971 vintage Altec speakers are shining like never before! I've added an external selector switch so I can select the phono preamp, and TV. I no longer need a CD input, as this receiver already has one. The phono works great, too, but needs an external preamp. The remote is very easy to use, unlike some TV and ISP provider remotes. My photos show how the receiver found its home in my wall unit, just below the turntable. To the right is the selector switch and below with the blue pilot lamp, the phono preamp. The third pic shows iTunes driving the amp via Airplay.

Pros: Fantastic sound Lots of features, especially connection with smartphones Compact, classy design

Cons: Would be nice to have more analog inputs, including a phono preamp Pretty steep learning curve to use all its features (but worth having)

Big bucks,small package,Huge performance features!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This M-CR 611 is a space saver but it is a lot in a small package at a price that is expensive but the value of the features and the sound quality justify it. I wanted these features as this system offers in a size that is not much bigger than a SONOS AMP. I wanted a CD Player. The optical input allowed me to use a Sonos Connect with this receiver. Sonos provides many features I enjoy already. The internet was hard for my wi fi connection as I couldn't do it. I hard wired the internet connection on my CR 611 to my router and that worked automatically. The internet radio works perfectly as does Pandora. For all your favorite stations you can store 50 from all internet or mixed with standard FM tuner stations and AM. The CD player seems to be perfect so far in basic features and functions. The blue tooth works well but pairing is tricky for use with multiple similar devices. I am not sure what PIN number it wants for registration in some cases. I just got it though so I will figure it out sooner or later. Marantz products can be overly complicated these days but this one is practical simplicity in practice and applications. I like it and it is worth the expense because it is not made to be a planned product for obsolescence,it is made to last and is backed by a 3 year warranty. The analog input is connected to the headphone jack of my Apple computer so it acts as a desktop set of powered speakers. It is actually a really great and well designed product with a headphone jack.

Pros: Features,cd! It can be biamped for one pair or standard amped with 2 sets of speakers. Sub woofer out put. Volume protection. Good FM . Great Sound!

Cons: Wi fi connection tricky for my situation. For others probably not. My Apple Wi Fi conflicts in some cases with my new Comcast router that also has Wi Fi. Typically poor AM.

Compact unit. Allows bi-amping, single subwoofer output. Connects well with multiple Apple devices. The sound quality is a big step up. The single CD player is just right for those old CD's.

David from Savannah, GA on 7/20/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great product. Looked at Yamaha and Onkyo internet receivers. Customer reports of difficulty and frustration in setting up the Yamaha scared me off. Finally, though, space was decisive. The compact Marantz fit and the Onkyo didn't. Didn't want to buy bigger furniture. Using my iPhone, I connected the Marantz to my WiFi and, through Bluetooth, to my phone and tablet. Was listening to internet radio and music on my phone in a minute. Had planned to buy new speakers, but my old Bose 301s sound great. The CD player is a nice plus. I'm all set. Very happy with the product. Wish, of course, that it was a couple of hundred dollars cheaper.

Pros: Sound, easy setup, compact size, built in CD player.

Cons: Price

Love it!

Terrific little receiver

David from Novato, CA on 5/31/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nice little receiver with good power and clear internet reception but stupid menu. Fits well into an office bookshelf but not a standard stereo rack system. Also ships with volume at full so be careful to turn it down before trying it out with a live source.

Pros: Compact and powerful little office receiver with CD.

Cons: Stupid menu for internet radio but good reception. Also ships with full volume so be careful when you first try it out.

Looks great, performs better!

Does everything I need, and looks good doing it. This powers my PSB X1Ts, plays my Pro-Ject Debut Carbon, plays my CDs, and hooked right into my wi-fi with ease for playing internet radio and music apps. Setup was a breeze, and everything sounds amazing. The Marantz app works well with my iPad and iPod too.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Pros: Internet radio streaming Good sound

Cons: Expensive

Everything I had hoped for...

JON from Orlando, Florida on 10/24/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I chose this receiver over less expensive competitors because the free iphone app seemed like a great feature. I'm using the M-CR611 for music in my game room and on my patio driving a total of 6 speakers. The app is everything I had hoped for. Power on/off, source selection, full Pandora integration, volume control and speaker selector are just some of the things the app can do and the integrated CD player is cool too. I was just thinking that one day listening to CD's will be revered the way vinyl is today by a growing group of enthusiasts. Of course the sound quality of the system is great, too. My audio friends seem pretty impressed with my entire setup.

Pros: Does everything it's supposed to. Great front LCD front panel display with more at a glance detailed info than most systems. Great iphone app provides full control.

Cons: Unimpressive unit size. First time setup longer than expected.

Doug from Champaign, IL on 4/25/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have been looking for an internet radio that has quality, convenient features like Air Play, Bluetooth and access to music services, an easily read dial face, a remote that doesn't take a Ph.D. in "remoteness" to decipher, a compact stance on the desktop, good connectivity to a wi-fi signal (I connect with a cable), can charge an iPhone from the front, and an earphone jack also on the front. This radio does all of these with finesse. This is not an ordinary radio in the sense that you will need to attach speakers to listen. I have two speakers from Madisound speaker kit company that have two Vifa midrange and one tweeter per speaker. There is plenty of "juice" with Marantz understated output of 50w per channel to drive them to beyond loud levels without distortion. There is also the option for connecting to another set of remote speakers and a powered subwoofer - which I am contemplating. The fact that this unit has a built in CD player along with FM and AM capabilities makes this unit unique in the internet radio world. I don't have to place my many(!) CDs on the computer hard drive to listen. There isn't much else one could wish for. The instruction manual is thorough but will require rereading in some passages to make sure you understand their references. Once understood, you will have little trouble in navigating. I am very pleased with the purchase (bought the "open box" option and saved $70) and look forward to many happy hours listening.

Pros: CD player, AM, FM, good wi-fi connectivity, easy to read dial, plenty of power for speakers, option for a powered subwoofer. Marantz legendary quality.

Cons: Would have preferred a dial for volume control rather that two buttons with arrows for "up" and "down".

This receive has all the bells and whistles. I didn't think I would care until I had them. The CDs sound fantastic, Pandora is an easy set up, blue tooth is easy. The unit is not very big. I have it on an end table, it's discreet. I'm just stoked to have the on-line music capabilities in a receiver along with the ability to play my Cds.
