High-end digital audio with more music choices

Marantz calls it "the complete digital music source player." The first-of-its-kind ND8006 is basically four components in one. It's a network player, a CD player, and a high-performance DAC in one low-profile chassis. Plus it has variable RCA outputs, so you can also use it as a preamp.

This extra-versatile component delivers superior Marantz sound quality from a huge variety of music sources, from shiny discs to streaming music to high-resolution audio files from your computer.

Built for solid performance

Build quality is just what we expect from Marantz: rock-solid, with a double-layered chassis, toroidal transformer, and rigid feet for high-fidelity, low-distortion sound. The ND8006's output stage uses Marantz's HDAMs (Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Modules) to pass highly accurate, detailed sound to your amp or receiver.

The ND8006 has a high-quality headphone amplifier that incorporates a Marantz HDAM-SA2 amplifier for first-rate private listening sessions with a range of headphone types.

Audio sources galore

The ND8006 lets you enjoy clear, detailed playback of CDs and better-than-CD-quality high-resolution audio formats. Its advanced digital-to-analog converter works with all kinds of digital audio sources — from USB thumb drives to conventional audio components with optical or coaxial digital outputs — bringing out detail and depth for a more immersive listening experience. Its USB DAC function supports high-quality playback from a computer.

Nothing beats the convenience of streaming music. Built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Apple AirPlay, and HEOS ensure you won't run out of options.

Streamline your music with HEOS

Built-in HEOS technology lets you access all of your music — from your personal library, internet radio, and popular streaming services like Pandora®, Spotify®, and TIDAL.

The ND8006 can be easily integrated into a wireless multi-room audio system. Stream music to HEOS wireless speakers and components in different rooms, and control each room's speakers independently with the free HEOS app. The app lets you control playback, browse music sources, and select which rooms you want to use. Play the same music throughout your home, or listen to something different in each room.

Audiophile DAC + Marantz HDAM: The ND8006 is built with legendary Marantz sound quality commitment. The audiophile ESS9016 Sabre DAC, with dual crystal clocks ensures accurate handling of all digital signals (up to 32-bit/384kHz and DSD 11.2MHz). The analog circuitry uses carefully selected components, plus the famous Marantz Hyper-Dynamic Amplifier Modules (HDAMs) resulting in wide dynamic range and lowest distortion. In place of the all-in-one "chip amplifiers" used in a lot of other components, these miniature amplifiers are built from separate, optimized components for the very best sound quality, and are found in Marantz products all the way up to the Reference series players and amplifiers.

Marantz Music Digital Filter (MMDF): The ND8006 features the unique Marantz Musical Digital Filtering (MMDF), inspired by their audiophile reference class technology. For Marantz, using standard digital filter solutions is not an option, as this filtering is crucial to the sound reproduction of digital input signals. As a result, they invested extensively in gaining expert knowledge, leading into highly-acclaimed Marantz Music Mastering technology used in award-winning Premium Range 10 Series products. Adapted for the ND8006 hardware design, the solution is called Marantz Musical Digital Filtering. Two selectable, digital filter characteristics cater for different tastes, and each handle even the minutest of detail with loving care in the digital audio signal, transforming new media files into the finest of high-resolution playback.

  • Filter 1: Offers a short impulse response for both pre-echo and post-echo. Suitable for large information content audio. Produces a deep sound image with clearly-defined positional relationships of the audio sources.
  • Filter 2: This characteristic is known as asymmetrical impulse response. The post echo is slightly longer than the pre-echo. The sound characteristics is more analog like.

Pure Sound Quality: The individual "OFF mode" setting allows unused sections of the ND8006 to be switched off to avoid any chance of interference, and to keep the audio source signal paths in use as pure as possible for further improved sound quality. The shielded toroidal transformer further minimizes internal noise, while the rigid double-layer chassis cares for optimal shielding and stability.

Discrete Headphone Amplifier: For music lovers enjoying their favorite recording directly via headphones, the ND8006 features a high-quality headphone stage with dedicated amplifier module HDAM-SA2. To work with a wider variety of headphones, the gain factor can be changed from low to mid to high. By using this, it is possible to drive low to high impedance headphone without any problem.

Fixed & Variable Analog Outputs: Alongside its conventional Fixed stereo RCA line-level output for use with an integrated amplifier like the perfectly matching PM8006 (sold separately), the ND8006 provides a separate Variable stereo RCA line-level output for connection to a dedicated power amp, allowing the Network CD Player to be used as a multi-source digital player/preamp.

Optical & Coaxial Digital Output: In addition to Fixed & Variable stereo RCA line-level outputs, the Marantz ND8006 is equipped with one optical (toslink) digital output and one coaxial (RCA) digital output.

Built-In CD Player + Digital Inputs

Disc Compatibility: The Marantz ND 8006 features a built-in CD player with playback support for CD-Audio, CD-R, and CD-RW discs. MP3 and WMA music files (formatted in ISO9660 level 1) can be played back on a finalized CD-R or CD-RW disc. The Network CD Player can recognize up to 256 folders or a total of 512 folders and files. The unit offers basic playback & search functions such as Play/Pause, Stop, Fast Forward/Rewind, Previous/Next Track, and Random/Repeat. It also offers advance controls like Direct Search and Program Playback (up to 25 tracks). The player also supports ID3-Tag and Meta-Tag data for song/artist/album information display.

  • MP3:  sampling frequency = 44.1 or 48kHz; bit-rate = 2 to 320kbps
  • WMA: sampling frequency = 44.1 or 48kHz; bit-rate = 64 to 192kbps

Front-Panel USB-A Port: The Marantz ND8006 is equipped with a front-panel USB (type-A) port that allows you to enjoy a variety of high-resolution and compressed music files from a USB mass storage class memory device, such as a USB thumbdrive or external hard drive (formatted in FAT16 or FAT32). The player can recognize up to 500 folder and 5,000 total files. You'll be able to control your USB device's music and view song/artist info (along  with album art) from the HEOS app on your Apple iOS or Android device. You can also control playback and search functions from the included IR remote. The USB ports are rated to provide a maximum of 5V/1A power to the attached device. This is usually sufficient enough to power USB flash drives and flash memory card readers, but may not be sufficient for all USB hard disks (may require external power supply). Compatible music files include -

  • MP3: sampling frequency = 32, 44.1, or 48Khz; bit-rate =  32 to 320kbps
  • WMA: sampling frequency = 32, 44.1, or 48Khz; bit-rate = 48 to192kbps
  • AAC: sampling frequency = 32, 44.1, or 48Khz; bit-rate = 16 to 320kbps
  • Apple Lossless: sampling frequency = 32, 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, or 192kHz
  • WAV: sampling frequency = 32, 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4, or 192kHz
  • FLAC: sampling frequency = 32, 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4, or 192kHz
  • DSD: sampling frequency = 2.8 or 5.6Mhz
Note: Do not use with an extension cable or USB hub.

Rear-Panel USB-B Port: The ND8006 features a rear-panel USB-B port to connect to your Windows PC or Mac computer for playback of 2ch PCM and DSD music files. The USB-B input works in asynchronous mode to support not only 32-bit/384kHz high-resolution 2ch PCM audio, but also DSD 2.8/5.6/11.2MHz for maximized performance and the most direct way to enjoy excellent sound quality from your computer or laptop. To safeguard quality when connected to a computer, Marantz built in extended isolation around the USB-B input to eliminate the chance of high frequency noise generated by the computer entering the ND8006.

  • Computer Requirements: Windows (7, 8, 8.1 or 10) / Mac OS X (OS X 10.10, 10.11, or 10.12)
  • Supported Audio Formats: 2Ch Linear PCM (44.1, 48, 8.2, 96. 176.4, 192, 352.8, or 384kHz [16-/24-/32-bit]) / 2Ch DSD (2.8, 5.6, or 11.2MHz [1-bit])
Notes: Before connecting the ND8006 to your Windows PC, install the dedicated USB driver software from Marantz website onto your computer (Mac computers will not require the installation of this USB driver). In addition, Windows Player software supporting the Audio Stream Input Output (ASIO) driver is required to play files with a sampling frequency of 352.8/384kHz without down-sampling (check your player software before playing files with the ASIO driver).

Optical & Coaxial Digital Inputs: The Network CD Player is equipped with two optical (toslink) digital inputs and one coaxial (RCA) digital input for connecting external digital audio sources with inferior DACs, so you can take advantage of the ND8006's audiophile-grade DAC. These digital inputs support Linear PCM signals (stereo) with sampling frequencies of 44.1, 48, 65, 88.2, 96, 176.4, & 192 kHz (16- or 24-bit).

Note: The player's optical & coaxial digital inputs do not support Dolby Digital or DTS.

Network & Bluetooth Audio

Wired or Wireless Network Connection: The Marantz ND8006 is outfitted with a RJ-45 Ethernet (LAN) port to connect the player to your home network. The unit  also offers built-in dual-band WiFi (IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n; 2.4/5GHz) for a wireless network connection; WPS, WEP (64-/128-bit) or WPA/WPA2-PSK (AES/TKIP) security protection is supported. Either network connection gives the player access to HEOS music apps (like TuneIn, Pandora, Spotify, Tidal, etc), your music library on your Apple iOS or Android device through Apple AirPlay, as well as music content on your Windows PC or DLNA music server. Wireless network setup can be done via WPS button, Access Point Scan, Manual Setting, or even through your Apple iOS device (5.0+).

Your HEOS account remembers all your settings and preferences such as all your music service logins and HEOS playlists. When you'd like to add multiple smartphone or tablet controllers to your system, you only need to sign in to each new device with your HEOS user name and password. Instantly all your music services and HEOS playlists are available in the new controller too. If you prefer, we support multiple HEOS accounts in a single household. This way, each family member can enjoy their own personalized Pandora or Spotify account settings and still share all the same speakers in the home.

Hi Jaime. Yes, you can connect to the ND8006 using Bluetooth on your iPhone/iPad. You can also connect your iMac computer via WiFi (using AirPlay) with the ND8006. Tim

will this output to a wireless bluetooth speaker like the B and W wedge?
[ Bruce  May 31, 2020 ]
3 answers
no benefit in using a top unit like this, since the signal going out would be digital and that would defeat the purpose of the dac.
[ FRANK  Aug 13, 2020 ]
No. It appears that Bluetooth on this Marantz is INPUT only.
[ Ryan  Jun 01, 2020 ]
I don't know the answer, but I doubt it. The 8006 is an old school integrated amplifier, which one of the main reasons I bought it. It will not even accept a sub-woofer and has still has inputs for a tape deck.....just as you would find 40 years ago. The 8006 is a strong, straightforward, no-frills, 2 Channel stereo integrated amp

Can the included Bluetooth function be disabled and subsequently bypassed by connecting an external Bluetooth adapter such as the Audioenginve B1 (e.g., via an optical connection)? If so, will Bluetooth work in this configuration?
[ Jim  Mar 19, 2020 ]

why bother, the blue tooth in the unit is top notch. this is what you are pay for.
[ FRANK  Aug 13, 2020 ]
Hi Jim, I bought this Bluetooth adapter more than a year ago and have no issues - it works great. If I understand your question, the answer is I think it will work well. The adapter connects as another "source" (input) to your pre-amp. You will choose this source every time you want to Bluetooth through AB1, thus likely disabling any other Bluetooth functions in your equipment. Is this what you meant?

looking to replace my Onkyo C-7070 CD player with a CD player with range and depth. Will the Marantz ND 8006 achieve these objectives?

excellent dac on this one. yes
[ FRANK  Aug 13, 2020 ]
I do not know the Onkyo player you mention, but am pretty happy with the Marantz soundstage, even when I compare it to a player that cost 3x as much. It actually sounds best when playing CDs. Soundstage however also depends highly on the other components, speaker setup, room acoustics, and the recording.
[ Joachim  Sep 16, 2019 ]
I replaced an Emotiva player with the Marantz ND8008. I only know that this upgrade clarified the sound stage and enhanced instrument separation PLUS improved the low, low end bass signal PLUS added the benefit of streaming direct via blu-ray, which, in its current available formats, actually improves most CD sourced recordings. Marantz is high end gear. You should note a difference in range and depth with both CD and Streaming.
[ edwin  Sep 16, 2019 ]
Yes, the Marantz is an excellent "one box" solution for both streaming and CDs. I've owned my unit for about 18 months and have been very happy with it. I use it about 75% for CDs and 25% for streaming. As a CD player you would IMO have to spend $2000+ for a standalone player that tops it.
[ Karl  Sep 16, 2019 ]
yes. assuredly.

From what I can see in the manual, the only way to play music that's on my PC is to connect with a USB cable, really? Does this not work over Ethernet?

You need to download the app for you phone, your phone will connect to it,and if you want to access your computer it has to be connected to the wifi router i have a server on my computer Plex that i use for it to connect to
[ CHRISTOPHER  Aug 21, 2020 ]
The Marantz ND8006 does feature built-in networking (with Wi-Fi) so, you can stream music from computers on your local network and online music services. So, no; you do not need to connect your computer to the player via USB.

Can I connect my turntable as well? If not what is the solution that allows that. I can drop CD player but looking for a preamp solution with airplay & turn table friendly

This isn't a true preamp, so you can't connect analog devices to it. You can connect other digital devices and run it through this unit's DAC though, and use the variable output as a sort of preamp. If you prefer the sound of vinyl, then I would think that you would want a true analog preamp and amp. You could always connect this unit to an analog system (which is what I do), or if you just want Airplay, then you could go even cheaper and get something like the Sonos Connect.
[ Peter  Jan 07, 2019 ]
Look for the "Phon Input"--problem is that this appears on the Amplifier verision of this product and it is sold as a separate. It has a dedicated "Phono In" on the back panel of the PM8006 model. You could try the "digital audio input," however on the back panel of the ND8006. You would need the left and right audio cable/cord from your turntable to become ONE. I believe you can find a suitable adapter on AmazonPrime. You don't want to do without the ND8006 because the DAC is in this component and it even adds life and structure to vinyl. Not using an amplifier will hurt but if you plugged a pair of powered Sennheiser cans into your ND8006 front "PHONES" jack, you may get great bang for your buck WITHOUT the amplifier. I hope this helps.

Marantz ND8006 is an excellent device to play digital sources both wired via Ethernet, USB, optical or coaxial and wireless via WLAN or Bluetooth. So it will play any iOS device from apple with Airplay via WLAN. But if your turntable only has RCA jacks it won't connect with Marantz. But some new turntables offer USB output which may work with the USB inputs of Marantz. But I wouldn't recommend this. I think the best way will be to add a phono amplifyer to your setup. I hope this helps.
[ Nezih  Jan 06, 2019 ]
Nope - the ND8006 accepts digital data inputs only. You need a preamp or integrated amp with phono input. I do not know of any wifi/network player at Crutchfield that has phono capability. Some preamps, i.e. the McIntosh C47have both digital and analog inputs, but do not have wifi/network streaming capability. Check if what you are using for your turntable at the moment can accept a network players (analog) ouput. If yes, you can run both through your existing gear.
[ Joachim  Jan 06, 2019 ]
I believe you can Bluetooth connect a turntable to this unit
[ STEPHEN  Jan 06, 2019 ]
No, this unit will only function as a digital preamp. I think the Yamaha WXC-50 or something similar would fit your needs though an outboard phono preamp would be required.

Will the Marantz ND8006 play my iTunes AIFF files?
[ Larry  Dec 02, 2018 ]
2 answers
The ND8006 plays whatever comes out of your computer via USB-DAC or Air-Play. AIFF plays fine via VLC player. iTunes plays AIFF as AIFF-C - no problem at all. It is only the USB-A input (front panel) that does not accept AIFF files.
[ Joachim  Jan 06, 2019 ]
The Marantz ND8006 does not play AIFF but does support Apple Lossless (32, 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, or 192kHz) and AAC (32, 44.1, or 48Khz; bit-rate = 16 to 320kbps) You will find this information, and more, by clicking the "Details" tab on the player's main webpage.

Do you offer the Marantz ND8006 in silver finish?

I was interested in silver finish as well. But Marantz USA just doesn't offer these components in silver to my disapointment as opposed to the rest of the world.

Does the DAC in the 8006 work as a stand alone or is it tied to the streaming functions?
[ Wildbill  Sep 15, 2018 ]

yes you can. tis unit is essentially a dac with a cd player and a streamer.
[ FRANK  Aug 13, 2020 ]
The ND8006 features a rear panel USB-B port to connect to your Windows PC or Mac computer for playback of 2ch PCM and DSD music files. The USB-B input works in asynchronous mode to support not only 32-bit/384kHz high-resolution 2ch PCM audio, but also DSD 2.8/5.6/11.2MHz for maximized performance. You will find this information, and more, by clicking the "Details" tab on the player's main webpage. I hope that helps. My bio:
