About the Klipsch AW-400

Great music doesn't have to stay inside the house — the Klipsch® AW-400 outdoor speakers bathe your deck, patio, or porch in accurate, detailed sound. These speakers don't need a huge amplifier to give you great coverage in open outdoor areas. That's because they feature a high sensitivity rating, which measures how loud a speaker plays with a given amount of power.

Rugged, all-weather design
Mount these speakers in a corner or under roof eaves with the included brackets. All-weather enclosures and rust-proof aluminum grilles stand up to the elements, ensuring years of worry-free performance.

Horn technology for powerful performance
Because high-frequency sounds are more directional than bass frequencies, it's especially important to target them right toward your ears. Klipsch places their tweeter inside a flared opening, known as a "horn," which disperses the highs evenly across your listening area. This design brings out details in everything you listen to, while reducing reflections that can color the sound. The horn also improves dynamics and efficiency, for powerful, "front row" sound that remains crystal-clear at all volume levels.

Product Research

Features

2-Way Driver Design: The Klipsch Reference All-Weather loudspeaker utilize a 2-way driver design with a 1" Tractrix Horn loaded dome tweeter and a 4" IMG woofer.

  • 1" Tractrix Horn Loaded Dome Tweeter: Each speaker has a 1" Tractrix Horn loaded dome tweeter for a natural, lifelike sound. The Tractrix Horns deliver a 90-degree by 90-degree dispersion pattern for a broader sound-stage.
  • 4" IMG Woofer: Each speaker uses a 4" IMG (Injection Molded Graphite) woofer. The dual ports are front-firing.

Weather-Resistant Cabinet: Klipsch Reference All-Weather loudspeakers are constructed from UV-resistant, glass-reinforced polypropylene, designed to handle the outdoor elements. They can be painted to match any trim or siding color.

Binding Posts: The gold-plated binding posts will accept bare wire up to 12 gauge, pin connectors, spade connectors, or single banana plugs

Mounting Brackets: The included mounting brackets are corrosion resistant powder coated zinc and offer great placement flexibility. They allow you to rotate the speakers almost 180 degrees after they've been mounted, letting you direct the sound to different areas as needed. If the speakers are mounted vertically, the brackets allow them to swivel side to side. If the speakers are mounted horizontally, the brackets allow them to swivel up and down. The speakers' shape makes corner placement easy.

Q
Are they paintable?
[ James  Jul 04, 2021 ]
3 answers
A
They are paintable. As with all grills, be careful not to block the grill cover. I used a thinner paint for that section.
[ Lew  Jul 08, 2021 ]
A
Not meant to be painted. You can paint if you want to
[ Viv  Jul 04, 2021 ]
A
Of course you can paint them but they are nice as they are.
[ Michael  Jul 04, 2021 ]
Q
do these come in black?
[ Larry  May 26, 2021 ]
1 answer
A
This model does not come in black. We offer other Klipsch models and other brands that do produce outdoors speakers with a black cabinet. I recommend contacting an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to discuss all your goals and get a personal recommendation

Q
Do I need anything other than a 110V outlet for these to work? Will they be picked up wirelessly by my Google home?
[ scottman  May 08, 2021 ]
8 answers
A
110 is necessary.
[ Michael  Jul 04, 2021 ]
A
I think you need a Sonos Amplifier that will attach to your speakers and then your amp will connect to your router.
[ Hallie  May 14, 2021 ]
A
They are not wireless so you'll need a powered amp and a music source to drive them. I use an old Pioneer SX-424 with a Bluetooth receiver so I can control it from my phone outdoors. Easy setup.
[ Robert  May 13, 2021 ]
A
I bought mine in 2019 and they are neither poweredn or wireless, maybe they have changed them....
[ Paul  May 13, 2021 ]
A
These are not powered speakers and they do not work with wireless sources. These are traditional speakers that must be connected by speaker wires to an amplified source.
[ Will  May 13, 2021 ]
A
There is no power cord for these speakers. They are driven by the sound through the speaker wires. They are just plain speakers so Google will not pick them up (no wireless and no Bluetooth). I have a pair of 650s connected to the B/2nd zone output of my receiver and use my receivers app on my iPhone to play various sources and control volume.
[ CHAD  May 13, 2021 ]
A
They are wire not wireless and no power needed just speaker wire
[ Viv  May 13, 2021 ]
A
No these do not plug-in, you have to have a separate amp for them to run on.
[ CHRISTOPHER N  May 13, 2021 ]
Q
Does the Klipsch Logo rotate for sideways mounting?
[ Alan  Jun 23, 2019 ]
4 answers
A
Yes
[ Michael  Jul 04, 2021 ]
A
Yes, I mounted all 4 of mine and turned the logo to match the direction of the speakers. You pull the logo up an turn to desire position.
[ Steven  Jun 23, 2019 ]
A
I'm sorry I can't tell you. The Geek squad installed it for me in the upright position.
[ Gary Mason  Jun 23, 2019 ]
A
Yes. You simply pull the logo out slightly, turn and release.
