Ready, aim, music!

The '3800-C-II's 1" aluminum tweeter tweeter gives you 100-degree dispersion, and it swivels, so you can aim the sound precisely where you need it to go. You can even rotate the Cerametallic™ woofer a full 360 degrees and tilt it up to 15 degrees in any direction. This flexibility gives you full, detailed sound no matter where you place the speaker. Plus, a tweeter attenuation switch lets you tailor the sound to suit your personal taste and room's acoustics.

Horn technology for room-filling sound

Because high-frequency sounds are more directional than bass frequencies, it's especially important to target them right toward your ears. Klipsch places their tweeter inside a flared opening, known as a "horn," which disperses the highs evenly across your listening area. This design brings out details in everything you listen to, while reducing reflections that can colour the sound. The horn also improves dynamics and efficiency, for powerful, "front row" sound that remains crystal-clear at all volume levels.

Keeping a low profile

The '3800-C-II stays inconspicuous with its SlimTrim™ grille. The visible frame size is reduced by 90% and grille depth is reduced by 80% over previous designs, for a nearly flush finish that blends in beautifully. The paintable aluminum, magnetic grille attaches securely with ease to virtually eliminate resonant distortion.

An optional in-ceiling bracket is recommended for installing the CDT-3800-C-II in new construction.

Features

Controlled Dispersion Technology (CDT): The Klipsch CDT-3800-C II in-ceiling speaker features a patent-pending gimbal mechanism, known as Controlled Dispersion Technology (CDT). The tweeter and woofer are independently adjustable, allowing both the high and low frequencies to be directed toward the listening area.

High Efficiency: The high-efficiency design of the Klipsch in-ceiling speakers allows you to get much more output than most in-wall and in-ceiling speakers. Due to the long speaker wire runs that are common in whole-house audio systems, the power coming from the amplifier is significantly reduced by the time it reaches the speakers. The 92dB efficiency of this speaker means it will play much louder at low power than other less-efficient speakers.

Drivers: The Klipsch CDT-3800-C II uses a high-quality 1" aluminum dome compression driver (tweeter) mated to an exclusive Tractrix Horn, combined with a 8" IMG woofer in a 2-way design.

  • Tweeter: There is a 1" aluminum dome compression tweeter mated to a swiveling 100° Tractrix Horn. The swiveling horn design dramatically increases efficiency by enabling the speaker to produce more output using less energy. The horn-loaded tweeter allows you to point the sound to a specific location, and has more controlled directivity than a conventional dome tweeter.
  • Woofer: The 8" copper-colored IMG (injection-molded graphite) woofer can rotate a full 360°, and then shift 15° in any direction. The solid Injection Molded Graphite woofer cone has been strengthened for even more accurate bass reproduction.

Note: The manufacturer has specified the maximum power handling of this speaker as 50 watts RMS (200 W Peak). Klipsch has also published a recommended amplifier power specification as 100 watts.

Speaker Terminals: The speaker has a pair of spring clips that can accept up to 12-gauge wire or pin connectors.

Tweeter Attenuation Switch: If the speaker is installed in an acoustically bright room, such as a bathroom or a kitchen, you can attenuate the tweeter by -3dB, using the Tweeter Attenuation Switch, located on the front of the speaker.

ABS Basket/Frame: The CDT-3800-C II has a sturdy ABS basket and frame. The frame can be painted to match any decor.

SlimTrim Magnetic Grille: With an all new grille, the visible frame size is reduced by 90% and grille depth is reduced by 80% over the previous design, for a more edge-to-edge consistent look that blends in with the wall more attractively. The new aluminum, paintable, magnetic grille attaches tightly and securely with ease to virtually eliminate resonant distortion.

Installation: The speaker can be installed in new or existing construction. It requires a cutout diameter of 9.8125". For new construction, purchase of the IK-800-C installation kit (714IK800C, sold separately) is highly recommended. For existing construction, the speaker should be installed in drywall at least 3/8" thick. It can also be installed in a drop ceiling (2' x 2' or 2' x 4' ceiling tiles only). In both cases, to maximize the acoustic performance of the in-ceiling speakers, Klipsch recommends you replace the original mounting panel with 1/2" or 3/4" plywood or MDF. A cardboard template is included to assist you in making the cutout.

Q
Can I install a 8inch ceiling speaker in an existing ceiling from the bottom or do they need to be installed before the ceiling is in place ?..m
marty  Sep 17, 2022

A
Greetings Marty, and thank you for your question. Ceiling goes up first, the speakers have a clamping mechanism to grab onto the sheetrock, or surface. Just pull your wire, and mark the area where the speakers go. They come with a cut out template.

Q
Can these be used in the ceiling of on an outdoor covered patio?
stephen  Aug 07, 2022

A
This series isn't moisture-resistant in any manner and isn't suggested for outdoors or bathrooms, but Klipsch does have a lesser series that is. The models R-1650 and R-1800-C.

Q
Can these speakers be installed in suspended ceiling in 2 ft by 4 ft ceiling tiles? Can you provide information on what is needed to do this?
alan  May 06, 2020
1 answer
A
You probably could as long as the tiles and suspension system are substantial enough (only you will know that) The mounting system on the speakers should handle the standard thickness of a ceiling tile.
melvyn  May 06, 2020
Q
Can these speakers go directly in the ceiling with blown in insulation or should they be in some kind of speaker back box?
gary l  Sep 27, 2018
1 answer
A
No backbox is required for the installation; even with blown insulation. I hope that helps. My bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Ryan
