Classic Klipsch sound from a slim tower

Want great sound from music and movies without taking up a lot of space on your floor? Then check out the Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-4000F. it might be smallest tower in the company's new Reference Premiere lineup, but it continues the company's long-time pedigree of ultra-efficient, high-performance sound. It features two 4" spun-copper woofers for punchy bass and powerful midrange, and Klipsch's signature 1" horn-loaded tweeter for smooth, detailed highs.

Hybrid horn technology for dynamic performance

Horn technology is one of Klipsch's long-standing hallmarks. Flared openings in the speaker cabinet project sound waves toward your listening area and prevent them from simply spilling out in all directions. This design reduces reflections that can color the sound, and boosts dynamics and efficiency for powerful, "front row" sound that remains crystal-clear at all volume levels.

Klipsch's Tractrix® horn features a circular throat around an advanced titanium diaphragm tweeter that transitions into a square 90º x 90º mouth. This unique shape provides a cleaner, more efficient transition of sound waves into your listening space. The result is a wide listening "sweet spot" with precise placement of instruments and vocals.

A horn that enhances bass, too

Take a look at the back of the RP-4000F and you'll find that instead of the conventional round port tube found on many speakers, Klipsch uses a Tractrix horn-shaped opening for smoother, more efficient airflow in and out of the cabinet. The resulting decrease in air turbulence makes for cleaner, more powerful bass with reduced port noise and low-frequency distortion.

Because this speaker is rear-ported, I recommend pulling it away from your wall to give it room to "breathe."

Bi-amp or bi-wire for even better sound

On the back of the RP-4000F you'll find two sets of speaker input terminals. These let you bi-amp or bi-wire your speaker to get the best sound out of it.

Great look, great sound. These are a very nice upgrade from my 20+ year old tower speakers. They fill the room with crystal clear sound without having to turn them loud, but loud is not distorted at all.

Pros: Take up less space, lighter in weight and sound great

Cons: None.

The Klipsch Reference Premier 4000f Mini Towers pack a mighty punch but requires enough power to drive them. Give them some power and they will impress.

Pros: Awesome sound

Cons: I should have bought them sooner!

I got these because I wanted floor standing speakers but didn't have the space for the larger size ones. To my surprise, these sound pretty awesome! I have them paired with the Denon 3400 receiver as well as the Klipsch R-112SW. This is my first exposure to Klipsch and I am a convert. Just like some of the other reviewers have commented, I'm hearing so much more in my music than what I used to. Oh, my rears are Def Tech 800s and they are mounted up on the ceiling. Thank you Crutchfield for all your advice!

Pros: Amazing sound!

Cons: None that I can think of.

Great sounding speakers for music and movies. Crisp highs, full mid range and deep bass, all in a very small footprint. These speakers complete my Marantz/Klipsch 5.1 sound system and I love it.

Pros: Sound and build quality. Efficiency. Small footprint.

When I assembled my system, I kind of overkilled it for the room size, so I dialed it back a notch. These are the result. Super crisp, clean, plenty of power for a midsize room. Superb quality at the perfect price point. I should have done this many years ago.

Pros: Superb quality in sound and craftsmanship.

Cons: None

Great sound coming out of a pair of speakers that have a small footprint. Combined with Klipsch center speaker, subwoofer and surrounds, these sound great with music and movies....didn't need its larger, more expensive cousins.

Fantastic speakers for all kinds of music and movies!

Chris from Travelers Rest, SC on 12/10/2018

These are outstanding speakers placed in my 15'x24' listening/movie room. They produce very crisp highs, a smooth midrange and precise base. Bluetooth, streaming, CD/DVD music all sound great. Movie dialogue is super clear and sound effects come through as if you are there. Cabinets are well constructed and quite solid. The aluminum feet are canted at a great angle that tilt the speaker slightly up in the front. The magnetic grills are a nice touch and the wire connection hardware is excellent. I have them matched with a Klipsch Center and sub woofer but they sound great on their own. I like the size of these speakers because they fit the room well without dominating the rest of the furniture. The RP-4000F are typical Klipsch performance and quality.

Pros: Excellent sound reproduction, very precise. Well constructed. Great for blasting Pink Floyd or Mozart.

Cons: None

Great Product, Delivery and Advice

Henry from Sun City Ctr, FL on 11/26/2018

Wow, what an improvement over my 24-year old Bose AM7 & AM3. I purchased the Klipsch RP-400F for front speakers, RP-400C for the center and R-10SW subwoofer along with Crutchfield speaker wires. Just using the mentioned items without surround speakers has made a world of difference. The dialogue is clean and easier to understand, base and the overall sound is great, whether watching movies or listening to music. The purchase was made after speaking with Crutchfield advisors who steered me in the correct direction, the advice was right on. I would recommend Klipsch speaker to anyone and take advantage of Crutchfield advisors when you're not sure. Hoping to add to the system using Klipsch products and Crutchfield in the very near future. This is a work in progress.

Pros: Build quality and performance are excellent.

Cons: None

Great sound and great price!

Island-Man from GUAM, USA on 10/12/2018

My current system is a keeper, I purchased the entire system from Crutchfield. I have and NAD M12 (DAC - Preamp), with two NAD C268 AMPs, each running in single channel bridged mode. My speakers are PSB imagine X2T towers with a Klipsch R-110SW sub. I bought these Klipsch RP 4000F (mini towers) to switch out the PSB towers, because I recently made space in a room for my very own man cave (less space). The room dimension is 12 X 12. The aesthetics of these speakers and sub looks REALLY cool. As for performance, I first ran them without the sub.WOW.can't tell the difference from the PSBs.(how do they do it with dual 4" woofers?) I cannot believe how small these are for the sound they produce. High quality- SMOOTH high freqs (redesigned horn) with really tight mid and low bass. They also free up a lot of floor space. I am impressed and very happy. Great doing business with Crutchfield as always.

Pros: Very small foot print, great to look at!

Cons: May need larger model for bigger rooms.

Product Research

Features

1" Horn-Loaded Tweeter: The Klipsch RP-4000F floorstanding loudspeaker features a 1" Titanium LTS Vented Tweeter with a Hybrid Tractrix Horn for exceptional high frequency response, detail, and dispersion. Klipsch proprietary Tractrix horn-loaded technology ensures high-frequency energy of the RP-4000F floorstanding speakers are aimed directly at the listener and reduces unwanted, artificial reverb caused by indirect sound bouncing off walls - meaning you experience the most clear, detailed, lifelike sound possible.

  • Titanium LTS Vented Tweeter: The titanium tweeter diaphragm's light weight yet rigid composition exceeds the performance of aluminum, polymer or silk tweeters. A vented tweeter design reduces standing waves behind the tweeter diaphragm for a smoother high frequency reproduction. Klipsch award-winning Linear Travel Suspension technology leverages a piston motion of the titanium diaphragm that lowers distortion and delivers real-to-life sound. A ceramic magnet housing provides premium performance,
  • Hybrid Tractrix Horn Technology: This redesigned 90°x90° Hybrid Tractrix Horn utilizes a circular horn throat paired to a square horn mouth to further improve high-frequency response and extension, while enhancing imaging and dynamics. The Hybrid Tractrix Horn's compressed molded silicon face adds high frequency damping to reduce harshness and horn resonance for a smoother frequency response with improved detail - creating a clean and natural sound. Klipsch also utilizes computer modeled phase plugs that act as a mechanical filter to further ensure a smooth, flat frequency response while protecting the tweeter from damage.

Dual 4" Cerametallic Woofers: The RP-4000F floorstanding loudspeaker utilizes two 4" Klipsch Proprietary Cerametallic woofers. Cerametallic consists of extremely light, rigid materials that can hold shape while being able to deliver lower frequencies with maximum efficiency. The Klipsch Cerametallic cone is matted to a dual-layer, copper-wound voice coil for exceptional conductivity. The 4" woofers are housed in a non-resonating, stamped-steel basket that's secured to a large magnet motor for exceptional efficiency and low distortion.

Rear Tractrix Port: The rear Tractrix port of the RP-4000F floorstanding loudspeaker is perfectly matched to the cabinet and woofer, creating ideal airflow with minimal distortion and turbulence even at the lowest frequencies. Klipsch Tractrix ports have custom designed inner flares that help reduce air turbulence entering the port. Less turbulent air helps reduce port noise for cleaner, more powerful bass.

MDF Cabinet: The Klipsch RP-4000F floorstanding speaker features a MDF cabinet with a scratch-resistant, textured wood grain vinyl that seamlessly integrates into almost any room or decor. The enclosure's reinforced MDF construction reduces cabinet vibration for less audible coloration and improved sonic accuracy. The MDF enclosure also features a satin painted baffle with a scratch resistant design for an elegant look without the grille.

Acoustically Transparent Grille: The Klipsch RP-4000F floorstanding loudspeaker comes with a removable, black cloth grille that is magnetic and acoustically transparent. This strong magnetic grille provides protection and a sleek aesthetic look to compliment your home's decor.

Dual Binding Posts: The Klipsch RP-4000F is fitted with two sets of sturdy binding posts allowing to bi-amp or bi-wire the floorstanding loudspeaker. These binding posts ensure a secure connection to many types of cable and connectors. The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs (single only), pin-connectors, spade-lugs and bare wire (up to 10AWG). Two plastic caps will need to be removed to use banana plugs.

  • Bi-Wiring: Bi-wiring can provide noticeable improvements in the overall transparency of your loudspeakers. Run separate speaker wires to the low & high frequency drivers from a single amplifier (the upper set of binding posts are for the high frequency drivers; the lower set of binding posts are for the low frequency drivers).
  • Bi-Amping: Bi-amping allows you to use separate amplifiers for the high & low frequency sections of your loudspeaker for greater dynamic range & lower distortion. We recommend that your separate amplifiers have identical gain to preserve the speaker's voicing balance.
Note: If you decide to bi-wire or bi-amp, you must remove the jumpers between the terminal posts (failure to do this could result in damage to your amplifier and loudspeakers).

Cast Aluminum Stabilizer Feet: The Klipsch floorstanding loudspeaker includes pre-installed, cast-aluminum stabilizer feet with rubber pads for safe placement on hardwood, tile, laminate, and vinyl flooring. The cast aluminum feet are mechanically designed to minimize surface area in contact with the floor, decoupling the speaker for faster, tighter low frequencies and more detail. No carpet spikes are included, and the speaker will not support optional carpet spikes or other type of feet.

Note: Do not remove the stabilizer feet. The Klipsch floorstanding loudspeaker should not be used without the stabilizer feet due to stability and sound performance reasons.

Application & Placement: The Klipsch RP-4000F floorstanding loudspeaker can be used in a dedicated stereo application or in a home theater application as front and/or rear speakers.

  • Front Placement: For optimum performance in a stereo application or as front speakers in a home theater application, Klipsch suggests placing the loudspeakers 6' to 15' apart. They may also be toed-in slightly for better stereo imaging. The listening position should be about 1 to 1.5x the distance separating the speakers.
  • Rear Placement: When used as surround speakers in a home theater setup, the speakers should be placed on the walls directly adjacent to the listening position. Another option would be on the wall behind the listening position.

Reference Premiere Series: The Klipsch Reference Premiere series utilizes a redesigned hybrid 90°x90° Tractrix Horn, a vented LTS titanium tweeter, Cerametallic woofer construction, and Tractrix geometry port technology for sound that will envelope you and blow you away. The Reference Premiere series by Klipsch consists of a variety of floorstanding, bookshelf, center, and surround speakers (all sold separately). Click on the Accessories Tab to find more Reference Premiere series speakers for your home system.

Optional Powered Sub: For bigger & deeper bass response, pair the Klipsch Reference Premiere series loudspeaker with one of Klipsch's powered subwoofers (sold separately - click on Accessories Tab).

Customer Q&A

Q
Crutchfield asked: Why did you buy this?
A
TIme to upgrade and these speakers will fit my system. [ STEPHEN  Jul 05, 2019 ]
A
Wanted slim profile floor standing speakers for my home theater setup. [ Todd  May 24, 2019 ]
A
it seam to be a good match for klipsch rp440c and r110sw [ bill  Nov 14, 2018 ]
A
I purchased Wharfedale Chrystal 4.3 speakers from you last week. They are super! However, Klipsch also makes a great speaker with excellent highs. The "look" of the Klipsch RP4000F is a bit more pleasing to view with the grills off, as the Wharfedale Chrystal 4.3 drivers look a bit like "old school" gear. Klipsch RP4000F has a much more "modern" look with "smaller drivers." I have the speakers in my opulent living room so "looks" mean a lot. Klipsch goes down to 37khz (Chrystal 50khz). [ Cary  Sep 16, 2018 ]

1 question already asked

Q
Would these speakers overpower a 9x9 ft room? I currently am using the rp600m bookshelf Klipsch speakers, and I love them, but would like more bass than these give me.
[ Robert  Apr 14, 2019 ]
8 answers
A
I think you will be very happy with these. They definitely won't overpower the room.
[ Chris  Apr 15, 2019 ]
A
These would definitely do well in a 9x9 room. As far as the bass goes, you will certainly get more than the bookshelf speakers. However, I recommend a small (8 inch or less) for "fill" for the 25hz to the 80hz range. All that being said, these are great speakers for the small room that I am using them in.
[ michael  Apr 15, 2019 ]
A
It's me again. Though these will give you more bass than your bookshelf speakers, they won't deliver "heavy" bass if that's what you're looking for. I just don't want you to spend the money and then be disappointed. I would feel guilty about that.
[ Michael D.  Apr 15, 2019 ]
A
I would keep your bookshelf speakers and buy a subwoofer instead for the extra bass.
[ GLENN W  Apr 14, 2019 ]
A
I just got these speakers a week ago. The room I use is 14x 18 with 8 foot ceilings and I love them! I would highly recommend them.
[ Thomas  Apr 14, 2019 ]
A
No, They would not over power. I too was using klipsch bookshelf speakers and was missing out on all the base and some mid range. The speakers would be perfect
[ James  Apr 14, 2019 ]
A
I think they ll b fine.
[ MAHAI  Apr 14, 2019 ]
A
They would fit well in a 9x9 room for sound. But the woofers are 5 1/4" diameter. They put out excellent highs. You could turn up the bass and get as much as you'd want. They are very clear sounding. Very nice speakers.
