Enjoy a true home theatre experience

Crutchfield customers love using Klipsch Reference Premiere speakers for their home theatre systems. And for good reason — they provide an incredible listening experience that can make you feel like you're in an actual theatre. The RP-502S surround speakers are the perfect way to add thrilling sound effects to your new Klipsch surround sound system, especially if you have a large room.

Each speaker features a pair of 5-1/4" spun-copper woofers and 1" horn-loaded tweeters that fire in different directions. Position a pair of these speakers to the side and/or rear of your seats to hear dynamic sound effects that put you right in the middle of the action.

Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-502S surround speakers

Each RP-502S surround speaker house two pairs of woofers and tweeters that fire in different directions for wraparound sound effects.

Hybrid horn technology for dynamic performance

Horn technology is one of Klipsch's long-standing hallmarks. Flared openings in the speaker cabinet project sound waves toward your listening area and prevent them from simply spilling out in all directions. This design reduces reflections that can colour the sound, and boosts dynamics and efficiency for powerful, "front row" sound that remains crystal-clear at all volume levels.

Klipsch's Tractrix® horn features a circular throat around an advanced titanium diaphragm tweeter that transitions into a square 90º x 90º mouth. This unique shape provides a cleaner, more efficient transition of sound waves into your listening space. The result is a wide listening "sweet spot" with precise placement of instruments and vocals.

Features

Wide Dispersion Surround Technology (WDST): As the cornerstone of every Klipsch surround speaker, proprietary Wide Dispersion Surround Technology (WDST) provides astounding sonic detail for lifelike, cinematic sound in practically any room; even with less-than-ideal placement configurations. The Klipsch RP-502S delivers precise sonic detail through the careful positioning of two Hybrid Tractrix Horn loaded titanium tweeters and dual 5.25" Cerametallic woofers. By aligning the two horn tweeters at 90° with respect to each other, along with the dual 5.25" woofers, the RP-502S smoothly covers a 180° horizontal arc, allowing maximum placement flexibility. This unique Wide Dispersion Surround Technology will produce a smooth, seamless broad distribution of sound for your home theater system.

Two 1" Horn-Loaded Tweeters: The Klipsch RP-502S surround loudspeaker utilizes two 1" Titanium LTS Vented Tweeters with Hybrid Tractrix Horn technology for exceptional high frequency response, detail, and dispersion. Klipsch proprietary Tractrix horn-loaded technology ensures high-frequency energy of the RP-502S surround speakers are aimed directly at the listener and reduces unwanted, artificial reverb caused by indirect sound bouncing off walls - meaning you experience the most clear, detailed, lifelike sound possible.

  • Titanium LTS Vented Tweeters: The titanium tweeter diaphragm's light weight yet rigid composition exceeds the performance of aluminum, polymer or silk tweeters. A vented tweeter design reduces standing waves behind the tweeter diaphragm for a smoother high frequency reproduction. Klipsch award-winning Linear Travel Suspension technology leverages a piston motion of the titanium diaphragm that lowers distortion and delivers real-to-life sound. A ceramic magnet housing provides premium performance,
  • Hybrid Tractrix Horn Technology: This redesigned 90°x90° Hybrid Tractrix Horn utilizes a circular horn throat paired to a square horn mouth to further improve high-frequency response and extension, while enhancing imaging and dynamics. The Hybrid Tractrix Horn's compressed molded silicon face adds high frequency damping to reduce harshness and horn resonance for a smoother frequency response with improved detail - creating a clean and natural sound. Klipsch also utilizes computer modeled phase plugs that act as a mechanical filter to further ensure a smooth, flat frequency response while protecting the tweeter from damage.

Dual 5.25" Cerametallic Woofers: The RP-502S surround loudspeaker houses dual 5.25" Klipsch Proprietary Cerametallic woofers. Cerametallic consists of extremely light, rigid materials that can hold shape while being able to deliver lower frequencies with maximum efficiency. The Klipsch Cerametallic cone is matted to a dual-layer, copper-wound voice coil for exceptional conductivity. The 5.25" woofer is housed in a non-resonating, stamped-steel basket that's secured to a large magnet motor for exceptional efficiency and low distortion.

MDF Cabinet: The Klipsch RP-502S surround speaker features a MDF cabinet with a scratch-resistant, textured wood grain vinyl that seamlessly integrates into almost any room or decor. The enclosure's reinforced MDF construction reduces cabinet vibration for less audible coloration and improved sonic accuracy.

Acoustically Transparent Grille: The Klipsch RP-502S surround loudspeaker comes with a removable, black cloth grille that is magnetic and acoustically transparent. This strong magnetic grille provides protection and a sleek aesthetic look to compliment your home's decor.

Binding Posts: The Klipsch Reference Premiere series surround speaker is fitted with sturdy  binding posts to ensure a secure connection to many types of cable and connectors. The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs (single only), pin-connectors, spade-lugs and bare wire (up to 10AWG). Two plastic caps will need to be removed to use banana plugs.

Placement & Mounting Options: The Klipsch WDST surround speakers should be placed approximately 2' above the listening position. Typically this will be about 5'-7' above the floor. The surround speakers should be placed on the walls directly adjacent to the listening position. Another option would be on the wall behind the listening position. The Klipsch RP-502S can be simply placed on a flat surface or wall mounted.

  • Stand Mount: The Klipsch surround speaker can be placed on a speaker stand, bookshelf, table, or other flat surface.
  • Wall Mount: The RP-502S features a single keyhole slot on the back of the cabinet for wall-mounting the speaker without any additional wall-mount bracket (mounting screws not supplied). The included rubber pads attach to the back of the speaker to keep the speaker aligned with your wall and to prevent any wall damage

Reference Premiere Series: The Klipsch Reference Premiere series utilizes a redesigned hybrid 90°x90° Tractrix Horn, a vented LTS titanium tweeter, Cerametallic woofer construction, and Tractrix geometry port technology for sound that will envelope you and blow you away. The Reference Premiere series by Klipsch consists of a variety of floorstanding, bookshelf, center, and surround speakers (all sold separately). Click on the Accessories Tab to find more Reference Premiere series speakers for your home system.

Optional Powered Sub: For bigger & deeper bass response, pair the Klipsch Reference Premiere series loudspeaker with one of Klipsch's powered subwoofers (sold separately - click on Accessories Tab).

Customer Q&A

7 questions already asked

Q
present rear speakers are Klipsh model RP150M What would be compatible. And can the front speakers be wired and the rear speakers be wireless ?
dana  Jan 16, 2024
1 answer
A
When using Klipsch speaker options with a Home Theater receiver you will need to hardwire the speakers, Dana. These RP-502S speakers are compatible with wired connections and would provide a wider sound dispersion for greater immersion for the rear surround channels than the current RP-150M's you are using now. If you absolutely cannot run wires to the rear of the room, the OSD Nero WRSKII wireless rear surround transmitter/receiver in the link below could be a good option. You will need a 120v power outlet on the rear of the room and can connect your rear speakers without running wires across the room! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_452WRSKII/OSD-Nero-WRSKII.html

Q
Will this work good with r26f on the front and rp 450c for center? Or is it too big for that set up?
rommel  Jan 13, 2024
1 answer
A
These are not too big to be used with those other speakers. In fact, as long as the surround speakers are no bigger than the front speakers, then they are a good match and that is the case here!

Q
Any recommendations for keyhole mounting hardware for these particular speakers? I'd like to hang these on drywall. My online search comes up with conflicting info as to the fit into the keyhole.
josh  Aug 21, 2021

A
Used a 3.5 or 3.75 inch long drywall screw directly into the stud, with about maybe 1/2 inch of the screw extending from the drywall to slide into the keyhole. Did not use any special mounting brackets / hardware to mount them.
lewis  Aug 21, 2021
A
I used heavy duty. snap toggled and had to grind the head of the bolt to fit the keyhole.
bonnylee  Aug 21, 2021
Q
Can the wall plate for the speaker wire connection be installed so the speaker covers it up when once hung?
christopher  Feb 10, 2021
2 answers
A
Yes. The speaker is more than large enough to cover a standard single gang outlet. This is exactly what I am doing in my theater and the wall plate is completely hidden. I will say though, you may want to consider some felt padding or something similar to add to the bottom back of these speakers when hung on the wall. When the sound is really thumping, there is a not so subtle rattle of the speaker bouncing off the wall with the base. Once I stuck a thick felt pad on the bottom back of the speaker, the rattle was gone. Even at very high volume.
jeremy  Feb 10, 2021
A
Hello. Yes, I hung these speakers off of the wall at ear level using a floating speaker mount and the typical wire connection wall plate is hidden behind by the size of the speaker.

Q
would you purchase the 500sa or the RP 502s speakers for rear sound ?
james  Oct 10, 2018
2 answers
A
Also, keep in mind that the 500SA is meant for Dolby Atmos (ceiling directional sound) that reflects to the viewer to experience over head sounds. The 502S meant for a different application. As a synopsis... the 500SA should be used as forward/upward sound projection and the 502S rear or side wind projections... depending on if running 9.1 or 11.1
jason  Oct 10, 2018
A
James - I honestly do not know much about the 500SA, but that is fine and doesn't bother me. Why? Because of how extremely happy I am with the 502S speaker that Iam using in my 5.1 set up. I also just added the Marantz SR7012 to my set up, and that completely changed the sound production of the 502S speakers. I have a rather large dedicated home theater, s the bi-drectional 502S works splendidly for how I am using the. Adding in that they can handle a higher wattage than most rears, along with the 5" mid/subs (2 per speaker/4 between the pair)... the sound stage is expanded. Highly responsive and movies have taken on a new experience. 10/10. Hope this helps!

Q
Would these RP-502s's be a good pair up with RP-6000f mains and a RP-600c center?
christopher  Jun 15, 2019
7 answers
A
I use RP-502s's as my surround back speakers with a pair of RP -160Ms as my surround speakers, RP-6000F mains and a RP-500C center in my home theater system and it works very well.
matthew  Jun 27, 2019
A
I have found them to be great with my Klipsch center channel and my Mirage FRx 7 speakers. they definitely fill out the rest of the room. I am powering them with a Marantz SR7011.
sean  Jun 27, 2019
A
Yes
joseph  Jun 27, 2019
A
IMO yes, they provide the non directional room fill surround to complete the set up.
chris  Jun 27, 2019
A
Yes they would, the 502s are awesome.
eric  Jun 27, 2019
A
Based onthe specs I would think so. However, you'll get the absolute best response from a quick chat with a crutchfield advisor. They made me feel very comfortable with decisions regarding my purchase
ron  Jun 27, 2019

Chris, I have these as side surrounds, and they are beasts. The spatial sound field effects are amazing and you will not regret having these puppies. Just keep in mind, they are BIG. It's hard to pinpoint at times where a sound is coming from, which for me is the best kind of surround sound speakers.
