Definitive Technology Mythos Gem
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
Sounds GREAT and Crutchfield was GREAT to work with
Enjoy detailed sound from Definitive Technology's most compact multi-purpose speakers — the Mythos Gems. Each speaker houses two 3-1/2" mid/bass drivers that are angled away from each other to create a spacious, lifelike soundstage. They flank a 1" pure aluminum dome tweeter that reveals lots of detail and nuance without adding a trace of edginess.
The enclosure is made of black hand-polished aluminum for a sleek look that'll go well with most modern décors. A keyhole slot on the back of each speaker allows you to mount them on your walls for out-of-the-way placement, or you can place them on Definitive's matching GemStands. The Gems are voice-matched with the complete Mythos series, so they're perfect for use as compact surround speakers in a system made up of larger Mythos main speakers. Or create a complete Gem home theater system using the Mythos Seven center channel speaker and either the SuperCube 2000 or ProSub 800 subwoofer.
Did you know?
Your new speakers will probably sound better after several weeks of use than they do right out of the box. That's because the material surrounding the woofers will loosen up, allowing the drivers to move more fully. Definitive Technology estimates a break-in period of 24 to 48 hours of playback before the speakers will deliver optimum sound quality. Incredible set of speakers.

Sounds GREAT and Crutchfield was GREAT to work with
Nice look, great sound
It was finally time to replace my excellent Pinnacle platinum p6.3 towers with a smaller wall mountable set. I first tried the JBL arena 120's which sound very good but the top octaves are a little soft, not at all like the bright shimmering p6.3's. The JBL arena's are keepers however. They have good balance and great transparency. Tried a set of Bose 301's just out of curiosity and dumped them off in a hurry. I heard nothing but midrange. They would'nt even make good door stops. Third try was the Def Tech gems. Excellent sound quality, forward top octaves, and they look great. This is as close as I'm going to get to a full size set of towers with the mighty Vifa metal dome tweeter sparkling and glimmering. I paired the gems with a Sunfire HRS12 sub for a nice blend.
Pros: Excellent sound and build quality
Cons: what? I don't understand the question. Just get a set
Not sure where to begin,With a recent remodel of our house,The wife wanted the big speakers gone,I was sure i wouldn't find anything that sounded as good as my Klipsch RP260 system,I was wrong. These are an Amazing set of speakers. The highs are crisp and clean,No matter what volume they are at,And the mids and lows are dead on.The highs, mids and lows blend perfectly together.the gems seem very efficient,I am listing to them at a much lower volume,25% lower then my Klipsch RP260 system and i thought the klipsch were much more efficient? I bought two pair of the gem for the front and surround and i'm using the Mythos seven center channel speaker,I was blown away with the voice reproduction, you can hear all the dialog even at lower volumes, i am using two Supercube 2000 Subwoofers and its a very powerful bass,I'm sure one would be more then enough and one pair of Definitive Technology DI 5.5S ceiling speaker for Dolby Atmos.I am powering these speaker with the Marantz SR5010. I couldn't be happier with a system then what i have. These speakers do not fatigue my ears like the klipsch system did after a couple of hours.
Pros: Audiophile sound quality.
Cons: Nothing so far.
Incredible set of speakers.
Pros: Sound, quality
Crutchfield was great they processed my order and shipped my purchases quickly and accurately. Wonderful company. I purchased two sets of the Mythos Gems one set for surround and one set for rear speakers, I have a set of Mythos 2 for front, Mythos 3 for center and super cube III for sub. To be fair my previous systems was (4) infinity reference 71 MKII with Infinity center and Infinity 500w, 15" sub. The new system has substantially less base for listening to music but it rocks for movies. The clarity with the new system is amazing. I haven't had much time to play with the system yet, I miss the base hence the 4 stars. I am hopeful that once I get everything tuned and figure out the settings for the new system the base will be better. Overall very impressed with the new speakers. P.S. previous receiver was a Denon AVR4802, new receiver is a Onkyo TX- NR3008.

The satellite speakers can be placed on a table-top or wall-mounted.
Angled Drivers: Each Mythos Gem contains two 3-1/2 inch long-throw mid/bass drivers that are angled in opposite directions to broaden the midrange dispersion. The bass roll-off of the Mythos Gem is smooth and controlled, allowing it to seamlessly blend with a powered subwoofer, such as Definitive's SuperCubes, for audiophile-grade home theater performance.
Pure Aluminum Dome Tweeter: EachMythos Gem is equipped with a 1-inch ferrofluid-dampened pure aluminum dome tweeter for extended, smooth highs.
Linkwitz-Riley Crossover Network: The Mythos Gem uses a sophisticated Linkwitz-Riley Crossover Network to perfectly blend the drivers into a sonically seamless audio environment.
Break-In Period: The Mythos Gem will sound good right out of the box; however, an extended break-in period of 20-40 hours or more of playing is required to reach full performance capability. The break-in period allows the suspensions to work in and results in full bass, a more open midrange, and smoother high frequency reproduction.
Extruded Aluminum Enclosure: The Mythos Gem enclosure is hand-polished gloss back aircraft-grade extruded aluminum with proprietary damping technologies that ensure total rigidity. All components are mounted on a resonance-free PolyStone baffle. These construction technologies along with state-of-the-art drivers and tweeter serve to deliver high quality sound with a wide soundstage, pinpoint imaging, high dynamic impact, and superb realism.
Binding Posts: Each Mythos Gem is equipped with a pair of gold-plated, 5-way binding posts to attach your receiver's speaker wire.
Mounting: The Mythos Gem comes with a wall-mount bracket, so you can easily mount the speaker on the wall (mounting screws not included). The Mythos Gem also features a 1/4"-20 threaded insert for using Definitive Technology's optional articulating wall-bracket (ProMount 80) to mount the speaker on the wall.
