Slim profile makes it easy to place in your room

The enclosure is made of black hand-polished aluminum for a sleek look that'll go well with most modern décors. A keyhole slot on the back of the speaker allows you to mount it on your wall for out-of-the-way placement. The Gem XL is voice-matched with the entire Mythos series, so they're perfect for use as compact surround speakers in a system made up of larger Mythos main speakers. Or use the Gem XL as your front and surround speakers, with the Mythos Seven center channel speaker and either the SuperCube 2000 or ProSub 800 subwoofer.

Did you know?
Your new speakers will probably sound better after several weeks of use than they do right out of the box. That's because the material surrounding the woofers will loosen up, allowing the drivers to move more fully. Definitive Technology estimates a break-in period of 24 to 48 hours of playback before the speakers will deliver optimum sound quality. For more information and helpful tips, check out this article from Definitive's website about conditioning your speakers.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Wanted bookshelf on wall mains so chose these. Small size was draw for me. Connected to 100 watt AudioControl amp. Detailed, full enough sound. Seem to need right amp for full sound. Also, need subwoof for punch. Cannot rival speakers with 6.5" cones but again this size and rich enough sound works for me. 5 stars!!@@

Absolutely amazing

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got these after five years of requests to downsize my Polk RTi A6s from the wife; they sounded amazing but were just too massive. I tried the Klipsch G-42 passive soundbar first but was dismayed at how pathetic it sounded compared to my beloved Polks. Sent it back to Crutchfield and called up to ask what they would recommend. Two different salespeople pointed me to Definitive Technologies and holy cow am I glad that they did. These speakers are very small and pack the power of an artillery brigade; the diminutive size does nothing to impede the massive sound that they produce. They are clear with very little (no detectable) distortion, and have an impressively powerful midrange, considering they only have 4 1/2" drivers. I have had a lot of awesome sound gear over the years and I have never been as impressed as I was when I fired the DefTech Mythos Gem XLs up for the first time.

Driver Technology

Angled Drivers: The Mythos Gem XL contains two 4-1/2 inch long-throw mid/bass drivers that are angled in opposite directions to broaden the midrange dispersion. The bass roll-off of the Mythos Gem XL is smooth and controlled, allowing it to seamlessly blend with a powered subwoofer, such as Definitive's SuperCubes, for audiophile-grade home theater performance.

Pure Aluminum Dome Tweeter: The Mythos Gem XL is equipped with a 1-inch ferrofluid-dampened pure aluminum dome tweeter for extended, smooth highs.

Linkwitz-Riley Crossover Network: The Mythos Gem XL uses a sophisticated Linkwitz-Riley Crossover Network to perfectly blend the drivers into a sonically seamless audio environment.

Voice Matched: The Mythos Gem XL is voice-matched with the complete Definitive Technology Mythos Series speaker line-up.

Break-In Period: The Mythos Gem XL will sound good right out of the box; however, an extended break-in period of 20-40 hours or more of playing is required to reach full performance capability. The break-in period allows the suspensions to work in and results in full bass, a more open midrange, and smoother high frequency reproduction.

Enclosure Design

Extruded Aluminum Enclosure: The Mythos Gem XL enclosure is hand-polished gloss back aircraft-grade extruded aluminum with proprietary damping technologies that ensure total rigidity. All components are mounted on a resonance-free PolyStone baffle. These construction technologies along with state-of-the-art drivers and tweeter serve to deliver high quality sound with a wide soundstage, pinpoint imaging, high dynamic impact, and superb realism.

Binding Posts: The Mythos Gem XL is equipped with a pair of gold-plated, 5-way binding posts to attach your receiver's speaker wire.

Mounting Options

Mounting: The Mythos Gem XL comes with a wall-mount bracket, so you can easily mount the speaker on the wall (mounting screws not included). The Mythos Gem XL also features a 1/4"-20 threaded insert for using Definitive Technology's optional articulating wall-bracket (ProMount 90) to mount the speaker on the wall. In addition, the Mythos Gem XL can be placed on a table-top, shelf, or stand.

Applications: The Mythos Gem XL is a versatile speaker which can be used as a front or rear/side surround speaker.
