Enjoy rich sound from this sleek, on-wall speaker
Definitive Technology's Mythos Ten is the best on-wall model in their Mythos lineup. It uses many of the same technologies found in Definitive's Mythos floor-standing speakers to provide a wide soundstage, pinpoint imaging, and superb realism in a slim, wall-mountable speaker cabinet. This versatile speaker can be used as a left, right, or center channel speaker in a home theater setup, and it's designed to match 50" or larger flat-panel TVs.
High-tech drivers for exceptionally detailed sound
At the center of the cabinet are two 5-1/4" midrange drivers surrounding a 1" dome tweeter. Definitive's Balanced Dual Surround System (BDSS) driver technology helps increase the tiny speakers' output without increasing the size of the enclosure. The pure aluminum dome tweeter produces extended highs that reveal nuance and shimmer without a trace of edginess. Flanking the midranges are two 5" x 8" racetrack-shaped low bass radiators, which give the Mythos Ten better bass performance than you might expect from a slim, on-wall speaker.
Gorgeous aircraft-grade aluminum cabinet
The enclosure is made of black hand-polished aluminum for a sleek look that'll go well with most modern décors. Die-cast aluminum baskets, a resonance-free PolyStone baffle, and proprietary damping technologies built into the cabinet ensure clean sound.
Building a system
Put together a complete home theater system using Mythos Tens for your front three channels. Add on Definitive's Mythos Gem XL surround speakers for wraparound sound and SuperCube II subwoofer for high-impact bass. The Mythos Ten also makes a great center channel complement to Definitive's powerful Mythos ST SuperTower floor-standing speakers.
Did you know?
Your new speakers will probably sound better after several weeks of use than they do right out of the box. That's because the material surrounding the woofers will loosen up, allowing the drivers to move more fully. Definitive Technology estimates a break-in period of 24 to 48 hours of playback before the speakers will deliver optimum sound quality. For more information and helpful tips, check out this article from Definitive's website about conditioning your speakers.

Definitive Technology Mythos Ten reviews
The Mythos Ten is an excellent speaker. When driven with 10 watts, mid-range and treble frequencies are clearly audible. At 15 watts input, the full range of frequencies come alive. Individual instrument and vocal timbres were precise and without coloration. I measured the f0 at 55 Hz. Output was down 6 dB at 32 Hz. Problems did arise at 32 watts input. The tweeter tended to distort sound quality, but this was due to damage to the dome upon arrival. There were two indentations on the aluminum dome. This was a scratch and dent purchase. I'm sure that if there was no damage to the tweeter, higher power levels would have sounded much better. My listening room is: 16x20 feet. 32 watts will produce 108 db @ 1 meter with this speaker. This is more than enough volume than the room requires. I recommend pairing with a supercube 4000. Despite shortcomings, I'm satisfied with this speaker. I also own Definitive Technology ProMonitor 1000 speakers. They have an f0 of 73 Hz., and are down 6dB at 40 Hz. My test equipment can't measure above 24kHz. So, I can't evaluate manufacturer frequency response claims. However, between 73 Hz and 22kHz, the sound level deviation is + or - 3 dB. ProMonitor 1000 speakers, an AV amplifier crossover setting of 80Hz, and a SuperCube 4000 sub woofer will sound amazing!
Pros: Excellent Home Theater Speaker, Excellent concert speaker, Expresses all the nuances of: a Stuart piano, Stradivarius violin, a cello, a harp, a marimba, a glockenspiel, and any other orchestra instrument. Audiophile sound quality between 15 and 30 watts.
Cons: Don't buy at scratch and dent!

Best speakers I've owned. I bought 3 to use as LCR with 110" projection screen. Beautiful, rich, seamless soundstage with good low-end...paired with twin Velodyne subs. Also, love the way they look on-wall. Solid construction with minimalist design. I've matched with DT Mythis Grm XLs for surrounds; I'm extremely happy. Very glad that I upgraded from my previous setup.
Pros: Great performaning on-wall speakers that look awesome.
Cons: Heavy/big for on-wall speakers. May appear to be too much (aesthetically), if paired with super-thin TV.

The sound is super amazing and like nothing I have ever heard. I went with the better model Mythos because of my love for every detail in music and these are all spot on.
Pros: Everything about them. Literally.

I was standing in Magnolia and heard something and said I want THAT!!! The Best Buy person said "well you want $3k DT STS Mythos Super Towers." I did some research and found that the Mythos Ten is about as good as it gets without spending that kind of a fortune and quickly headed over to Crutchfield to buy some. I don't know how this company DT does it but these are the most defined vocals from a center channel I've ever heard. It is also the first real time I've felt mid-bass punch in the chest from a center channel. I will be slowly but surely adding Mythos Ten around the room. Until then, the Mythos 6 and Gems will have to hold up the fort while the Mythos Ten center does the heavy lifting. The "downside" of owning this speaker is it made me realize how "good" of a center channel the DT ProCenter 2000 really is. I've been A/Bing them back in forth waiting for other speakers to come in and I'll be damned if sometimes the ProCenter didn't have the edge. Mythos Ten blows it away on overall frequency response and power handling. Can't go wrong with DT or Crutchfield.
Pros: Punchy Mid-Bass, Crystal Clear Dialogue, Broad Sound Stage, Silky Smooth Treble, Blends Seamlessly with Subwoofer
Cons: I don't have 6 more of them

The Mythos Ten has made viewing movies much more enjoyable. I have Mythos STL1 speakers which I truly enjoy; however, as an older listener I was having some trouble hearing the voices while watching action/adventure movies with a lot of base. The addition of the Mythos Ten as a center channel has significantly improved the mid range vocals and the movie experience. Moreover, the high quality construction of the speakers and their sonic performance helps to justify their price.
Pros: Sonic performance and quality construction. My first experience with Crutchfield was excellent. I will strongly consider future transaction with with above company.

I listened to a limited selection of centers before deciding to buy this sight-in-heard from Crutchfield. Another retailer carries a decent range of Definitive gear but they don't have mythos gear in stock. My rationale was that if I didn't it I would send it back. I am never sending this speaker back. Highs and mids are bright and clear, male voices have a decided low end punch to them that I never heard in an audio track with previous centers and it is a perfect sonic match with so many options for the left and right fronts offered by Definitive. I you only have space for wall mounted speakers then this would make for a great L-C-R setup but only if you pair it with a good sub. I have the center in a beautiful cherry wood TV stand that is 80 inches wide in total and the speaker fills the space in the center with a mere .75 inches on either side. It is perfect. I have this in a 5.1 surround configuration with two StudioMonitor 65s in the front, two ProMonitor 1000s for the surrounds and my aging Infinity. Identical tweeters and all 5 1/4 drivers for bass/midrange. I could not be happier!!
Pros: Crisp and clear mids and highs, punchy bass and sonically matches to my other Definitive speakers.
Cons: Difficult to find in retail locations but trust me, after you buy it and get it shipped, you will NOT be returning it!

This is the most beautiful sounding center channel out of countless ones we listened to and researched. We have a large open great room with high ceilings and lots of wood and glass (not a home theater by any means). We wanted a superior sound to a soundbar. So we set out to find a sleek looking, thin center channel that would fit above the mantle but still sounded amazing and made dialog more clear. We chose the DT Mythos Ten after trying a couple others but returning them. And we are so glad we chose this one! It has such a rich full sound BUT makes every bit of dialog crystal clear. Well worth the investment! I also called and talked to a customer service rep at Definitive Technology (something I do often to get a feel for what I can expect from a company in terms of customer service should I need them after the purchase) and I must say they were wonderful. Excellent product knowledge and extremely helpful.

Review title says it all!
Pros: Sound, size and placement flexibility

I Have been a satelite and subwoofer fan since the JBL 212 system. Theses re not that. They are however reasonable accurate used as the primary frony speakers. They are also power hungry. I would say a min of 125 watts per as a minumum. They are probable best suited as a center channel or surround speaker.O wellmy surrounds were a little long in the tooth.
Pros: Easy to mount and reasonable accurate considering price and space limitations.
Cons: very power hungry. I peg a 125 per channel reciever to get reasonable volume.

The Mythos Ten is major improvement over the old Polk Center Channel Speaker that it replaced. It blends in well and is solid. Dialogue is clear and crisp. Even my wife approves!

I'll apologize in advance for not being expansively audio-phile in my review. I'm running this speaker through a Marantz 7005 in association with 2 Mythos St speakers and a new Panasonic 65 inch plasma. The sound is clear and precise. Understand, it was replacing the speakers that came with an analog set at least 10 years old that were not being run through any amplifier. So in essence, it would be tough NOT to be much better than what i had.
Pros: Crisp highs with very good conversational projection

Awesome center channel speaker
Pros: Sounds great

Excellent! This speaker has a presence and clarity that is leaps and bounds above the old JBL center I had been using. I have a pair of B&W 803s that I use as fronts sometimes and the Mythos 10, although not quite in the same league, holds its own well as the center when used in the home theater configuration. You will want to match it with a good subwoofer in order to round out the bottom of the spectrum but the result is extremely rewarding. Center is definately where it should be now. Voices are crystal clear and all dialogs come thru without being forward. Overall midrange is very smooth with no brassiness and the upper registers are clean and extended without any enhanced 'sizzle'. Overall great audio balance. Efficient.
Pros: Clarity, efficiency.
Cons: None noted

You have never heard a great center channel speaker until you try the Mythos 10. I was using Klipsch's top of the line and the Mythos 10 blows it away. The voices are significantly clearer!

Overview: The Definitive Technology Mythos Ten loudspeaker offers maximum versatility for your home theater and flat-panel entertainment system; it can be used as an on-wall Front, Center, or Surround speaker, or as a shelf-mounted center speaker. The Mythos Ten features a high-gloss aircraft-grade extruded aluminum enclosure with proprietary damping technologies to ensure total rigidity and perfectly accurate sound. It also features two high-definition BDSS 5-1/4 inch drivers pressure-coupled to two 5 x 8 inch (racetrack-shaped) planar low-bass radiators for a total bass radiating surface greater than a that of a 12 inch woofer , and a 1 inch (25mm) ceramic-coated pure aluminum dome tweeter with an acoustically contoured faceplate for excellent high frequency extension, detail and smoothness.
Speaker Array: Each Mythos Ten contains a D'Appolito array consisting of two high-definition 5-1/4 inch drivers that are pressure-coupled to two 5 x 8 inch (racetrack-shaped) planar low-bass radiators for a total bass radiating surface greater than that of a 12 inch conventional woofer, surrounding a 1-inch dome tweeter housed in an acoustically isolated sealed enclosure. The driver baskets are die cast aluminum. The bass roll-off of the Mythos Ten is smooth and controlled, allowing it to seamlessly blend with a powered subwoofer, such as Definitive's SuperCubes, for audiophile-grade home theater performance. The tweeter's dome is heat-treated to relax the crystal structure and then coated with a ceramic to produce extended highs.
BDSS Technology: The Mythos Ten drivers feature Definitive's patent-pending Balanced Double Surround System (BDSS) technology that supports the speaker cone at both the inner and outer edges for longer, more linear excursion, greater clarity and finely textured inner detail. Definitive Technology's Balanced Double Surround System (BDSS) driver offers a wide-bandwidth accurate frequency response, broad dispersion, low distortion, and detail retrieval; so you hear more the music with greater accuracy and enjoyment. BDSS drivers incorporate the following design features.
- Balanced Double Surrounds: The speaker's balanced double surrounds support the cone at two points to provide better mechanical stability for longer, more linear excursion, and improved damping to suppress parasitic cone resonance.
- Mineral-Filled Polymer Cone: The loudspeaker features a deeply drawn mineral-filled polymer cone engineered using sophisticated 3D modeling techniques for wide range performance.
- Waveguide: The cone's integrated waveguide smoothes off-axis response for broad, even dispersion and better imaging.
- High Temperature Voice Coil: The driver's high temperature, oversized, lightweight vented voice coil offers improved power handling and quick transient response. The voice coil is also lengthened to increase linearity and lower distortion.
- Magnet Structure: The driver's magnetic system is optimized by finite element analysis to maximize magnetic flux in the gap for high efficiency and linear excursion.
- Die-Cast Alloy Basket: The die-cast alloy basket minimizes ringing and vibration while the open area minimizes back wave reflection.
Break-In Period: The Mythos Ten will sound good right out of the box; however, an extended break-in period of 20-40 hours or more of playing is required to reach full performance capability. The break-in period allows the suspensions to work in and results in full bass, a more open midrange, and smoother high frequency reproduction.
Extruded Aluminum Enclosure: The Mythos Ten enclosure is hand-polished gloss-black aircraft-grade extruded aluminum with proprietary damping technologies that ensure total rigidity. All components are mounted on a resonance-free PolyStone baffle. These construction technologies along with state-of-the-art drivers and tweeter serve to deliver high-quality sound with a wide soundstage, pinpoint imaging, high dynamic impact, and superb realism.
Binding Posts: The Mythos Ten is equipped with a pair of gold-plated, 5-way binding posts to attach your receiver's speaker wire.
Applications: The Mythos Ten can be used as left & right main, center, and surround speakers in your home theater audio system. The Mythos Ten can be mounted on the wall vertically or horizontally as a left & right main speaker or surround speaker. The Mythos Ten can also be use as a center channel speaker and wall-mounted horizontally or placed horizontally on a table-top or shelf.
Mounting: The Mythos Ten comes with easy-to-install mounting hardware that allows you to hang the speaker on the wall below, above, or beside your flat-panel television in a vertical or horizontal orientation. The Mythos Ten is engineered to be placed flush with the wall and close to the edge of your television while delivering realistic sound that is accurate, with lifelike imaging and clarity. The Mythos Ten's wall mount bracket allows direct mounting to a wall. A supplied adjustable foot and two self-adhesive rubber feet permit easy shelf mounting when the speaker is used in the horizontal center-channel format.
Angle Adjustment: The Mythos Ten has a bracket with foot which screws into the speaker's wall-bracket to stabilize the speaker and allows you to adjust the vertical angle when the system is placed on a flat horizontal surface. When you set the speaker down, the speaker will lean back and rest on this foot. By varying how far you screw in-and-out the foot, you can adjust the vertical angle of the speaker. It is recommended that you aim the center-speaker so that it aims directly towards the height of the listeners' ears.
