High-tech drivers for exceptionally detailed sound

Close-up of the pure aluminum dome tweeter.

At the center of the cabinet are two 3-1/2" midrange drivers surrounding a 1" dome tweeter. The pure aluminum dome tweeter produces extended highs that reveal nuance and shimmer without a trace of edginess. Flanking the midranges are two 3-1/2" bass radiators, which give the Mythos Seven better bass performance than you might expect from such a slim speaker. Die-cast aluminum baskets, a resonance-free PolyStone baffle, and proprietary damping technologies built into the cabinet ensure clean sound.

Gorgeous aircraft-grade aluminum cabinet

The enclosure is made of black hand-polished aluminum for a sleek look that'll go well with most modern décors. A rubber-tipped adjustable foot on the bottom of the cabinet allows you to aim the speaker upwards towards your listening position when placed on a low shelf.

Building a system

Team up the Mythos Seven with two Mythos Five floor-standing speakers or two Mythos Six on-wall speakers for the left and right channels, and the Mythos Gems as surround speakers. Add Definitive's SuperCube II, SuperCube III, or ProSub 800 subwoofers for hard-hitting bass.

Did you know?
Your new speakers will probably sound better after several weeks of use than they do right out of the box. That's because the material surrounding the woofers will loosen up, allowing the drivers to move more fully. Definitive Technology estimates a break-in period of 24 to 48 hours of playback before the speakers will deliver optimum sound quality. For more information and helpful tips, check out this article from Definitive's website about conditioning your speakers.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Used this for a center speaker with a Sanus moveable TV mount and Sanus center speaker brackets - after a bit of leveling with washers and the entire mount, it works well. Speaker is a good upgrade from a DefTech Pro Center 100. Better mid-range.

great sounding bass

Perfect for my system - goes great with my 25-year-old Definitive speakers.

center channel.

George from Raleigh, NC on 5/25/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A great center channel. Very clear, can keep up with any sound level needed. My room is 25 by 25 with an 18 foot vaulted ceiling, and it has enough to fill it. I have it paired to Def Tech D 9 s and they match well. Slim profile fits under the screen nicely.

Pros: Entry level high quality.

Cons: Would have preferred square profile to match the D 9 s better cosmetically. Still looks great together.

Center channel clarity!

Crutchfield customer from Washington, DC on 2/25/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased this as a replacement for a Def Tech ProCinema series ProCenter 1000, that was unfortunately over-matched. The center sits between a pair of DT BP-2006 towers, and the PC-1000 never gave me the clarity of sound that I was hoping for, often getting lost in the 2006 sound field. Seemed we were often asking "What'd they say?" during movies, no matter what I did with sound levels. After placing the Mythos 7, I was immediately impressed by the difference between the two centers, with the Mythos providing a noticeable improvement to my center sound quality. I've waited for some time, to post this review, as I wanted some additional perspective and didn't want to write an overly favorable review at first blush. Now that I've had the Mythos in place for a time, and had the opportunity to exercise it with a wide variety of music and movies, I'd say that my initial impressions have held up, and I've become more impressed with what this speaker has done for our movie watching experience. It's not a rumbler, but I didn't buy it for that. What it did was give us that clarity of sound and anchoring of voices that we were missing previously. No more go backs just to try to pick up the dialogue that was getting lost with the PC-1000. Aesthetically, it's very unobtrusive and is a great fit under my screen, which sits on a TV stand. Like any product, I'm sure this is not everyone's elixir, but it's definitely an improvement for my situation.

Pros: Clean and clear dialogue aesthetically unobtrusive

Cons: Needs your mains or a sub for the deep stuff Don't expect it to be more than it is

Blended into the background atop tv console. Replaced side mount speakers as a more focused center channel.

Pros: Low profile

Cons: Needs break in before you can truly evaluate.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased the DT Mythos7 to enhance the voices from our new smart tv which were very difficult to hear. The new center speaker really make the voices "pop"!

Pros: Compact and a perfect fit under our flat screen

Cons: N/A

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

As the title says, this center channel speaker is AWESOME! Really great sound. Very crisp. Very clear. Exactly what a center channel speaker should be. Definitely a high quality item. I was surprised by the weight of the unit. It just effortlessly gives great sound. Couldn't be happier.

Pros: Great, wonderful sound. Excellent build quality. Affordable.

Cons: None.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Was looking for a good speaker to fit in a tight space and this definitely fills that need. It is very slim and compact but still has great sound, especially for the size. Price was reasonable as well.

Pros: Compact, low profile, great looking, impressive sound

Cons: None

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Really nice center speaker. I have a large room, and would have liked a larger center, but this was the only one that would fit under my tv. Initially, I was not too impressed, but after a few days, the speaker really started to open up and I got the clarity I was looking for in a center channel. If you have limited space, give this a try.

Pros: Compact, fits under my tv

Cons: None

at last!

Sea4Me from VB, VA on 8/30/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just what I needed. If you're balancing what you want vs what you need, you expect to make sacrifices. Well, it was hard to find the right size center channel & I was open to paying a premium for the fit rather than give up the form of my room. Luckily, I found this speaker. Sounds amazing, nice low profile, not an overwhelming price. I feel like I have both form (the appearance of my living space) and function (and awesome sounding system) for my new Samsung Plasma 64" Glad you're here, Definitive! (And thanks for the lightening fast shipping, Crutchfield!)

Pros: low profile, clean lines, crystal clear sound

Cons: haven't found any struggles yet...will see what happens as I push this speaker

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased the mythos 7 for my center speaker to go along with two mythos 6's that I am using as my front left and right. Overall, very happy with style and performance for the price/size.

Pros: Great style and low profile.

Cons: none

Ok for main speaker at low volumes

JeffN from Van Buren, AR on 1/15/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this to be the main center channel speaker in a mid-priced system in my family room. It can distort at louder volumes, but is fine for "normal" TV levels. Given its small size, this is an accomplishment. I think it would take a considerably larger speaker to play at movie levels.

Pros: Small, I don't have room for a deeper speaker. Good looking.

Cons: I wish I could drive it harder without distortion.

Nice sound

BReeves780 from Nashville, TN on 12/29/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought 2 Mythos Six and a Seven along w/ a ProSub 800 for center, side & sub speakers for a new Samsung plasma and although they're still new to me, I really like the sound of the outer speakers. The Sub is a little bit "all there or not" but the Mythos' are all great...look and sound terrific.

Pros: NIce look, compact, great sound

Great sound quality in a compact unit

Pretty good - could be "larger" sounding

Kevin from Palo Alto, CA on 9/18/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got these after five years of requests to downsize my Polk RTi A6s from the wife; they sounded amazing but were just too massive. I tried the Klipsch G-42 passive soundbar first but was dismayed at how pathetic it sounded compared to my beloved Polks. Sent it back to Crutchfield and called up to ask what they would recommend. Two different salespeople pointed me to Definitive Technologies and holy cow am I glad that they did. I got this speaker to complement a pair of Mythos Gem XLs on L & R fiddle; it balances the sound very well and gives great dialogue when watching TV. I am a little disappointed in the "size" of the sound, however - unlike the Gem XLs, I can tell when I listen to it that the sound is being pushed through a pair of 3 1/2" cones...passive radiators or no. If you have the space for it and the extra hundred bucks, jump up to the next Definitive Technology center channel CS-8040HD instead. I would, but the form factor doesn't work for my setup. Given my constraints, this speaker sounds better than anything else by a long shot. I just wish I had the space to get a slightly larger center channel in place.

TomD from Jacksonville, FL on 6/8/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Not a lot of oomph in this center speaker, but it's pretty good for its size. If you need a good center speaker that is only 4 inches high, this is a decent choice.

Pros: Good if space if space is limited.

Cons: Could use a little more bass or richness. If the size of the speaker is not a factor, you might want to upgrade to the Mythos Nine.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was my first time ordering from Crutchfield, and I was impressed to say the least. I was kept up to date on my order status as it progressed. The Definitive Mythos 7 fits perfectly in front of my LED Samsung and sounds amazing. The voices sound like they reach out into the room. I needed a low profile center channel speaker and this one fits the bill perfectly without sacrificing sound quality.

Crutchfield customer from Woolwich NJ on 4/4/2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am slowly rebuilding my surround sound system. This speaker was the start. The center channel is where most of your experience begins. I am not sure what will be next. I love the Mythos item. Quality is the focus. I always buy quality versus name. Next will be replacing the L-R front and subwoofer. Or maybe my Onkyo receiver to be all HDMI. If Crutch keeps their prices inline, they are the way to buy.
