Definitive Technology ProCenter 1000
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
Buster was very helpful in finding a great center channel speaker that fit into a small space!
From Definitive Technology: Bass Radiator
The ProCenter 1000 delivers impressive home theater sound quality at an affordable price. This compact, easy-to-use speaker reproduces crystal-clear dialogue and true-to-life sound effects — perfect for thrilling home theater performance.
Both 4-1/2" woofers produce natural-sounding dialog, while lower frequencies are turbocharged by 4-1/2" bass radiators at both ends of the cabinet (see above). This clever design doubles the lower-midrange radiating area without increasing the size of the enclosure. A 1" pure aluminum dome tweeter produces extended highs that reveal nuance and subtle detail without a trace of edginess.
You can place the ProCenter 1000 on a shelf using the included leveler foot, or mount it on your wall using using optional brackets. This speaker is voice-matched with Definitive's complete ProCinema series, and can be paired with any ProCinema surround or subwoofer. To create a high-performance ProCinema 800 system, pair the ProCenter 1000 with four ProMonitor 800 satellites and a ProSub 800.
Did you know?
Your new speakers will probably sound better after several weeks of use than they do right out of the box. That's because the material surrounding the woofers will loosen up, allowing the drivers to move more fully. Definitive Technology estimates a break-in period of 24 to 48 hours of playback before the speakers will deliver optimum sound quality. For more information and helpful tips, check out this article from Definitive's website about conditioning your speakers.
Small, compact but well built and the sound is really good! It replaces my Yamaha center and improves the sound.

Average Customer Review(s):
Buster was very helpful in finding a great center channel speaker that fit into a small space!
This center speaker made all the difference by being able to clearly hear the dialog in tv and movies and sharpened the lyrics when listening to music. Love the smaller size than other center speakers I've had in the past.
Pros: sound clarity, size, price
Small, compact but well built and the sound is really good! It replaces my Yamaha center and improves the sound.
Pros: Small, compact, well built, good sound
Cons: Highly gloss
Great product, immediately made watching movies more enjoyable with more discrete dialogue!
Upon your recommendation I chose this speaker for its ability to provide clear voice reproduction. I wasn't disappointed.
Pros: Ability to produce excellent sound at a reasonable price
I was looking for a reasonably priced center channel speaker for my small basement home theater that could provide improved voice quality and clarity without sacrificing bass, and would compliment my existing system and fit into my existing set up. After discussing my requirements with Crutchfield (Sam) I decided to follow/trust his experience and advice. I am very pleased with my purchase all around, and happy with the improved sound of my HT system. Sounds great even prior to completing recommended break in period.
Pros: Clear voice dialog, dispersion, and surprisingly strong bass. Seamless integration with my current non DT bookshelf speakers with titanium tweeters. Great price. Expert, knowledgeable advice from home theater consultant Sam.
Cons: None. Exceeded my expectations.
It is very good item
Pros: I love the size of this item
Cons: lowest sound
Better sounding than I expected after downsizing from a Klipsch Reference RF3 to the Procenter 1000. Very impressed.
Pros: Small size, impressive sound.
Cons: Front of speaker enclosure should have rubber feet to help secure speaker when sitting on a shelf.
Very nice sound for small center. Needed small form factor for my setup. Tweak it nicely through my Denon receiver to compliment my Klipsch front speakers. No it's not ideal to have mixed brands but I think it sounds amazing after a manually tweaking setup with receiver. Couldn't be happier with movie soundtrack dialogue clarity, balance . Highly recommend.
Pros: All good
Great look! Great sound!
Awesome center speaker, you won't be disappointed.
Great sound for small size, fits in my cabinet. Procenter 2000 would have rubbed the radiators on the side. Tweeters are a bit brighter than the soft domes in my mains, but doesn't distract during music or movies. Set up with 80hz crossover, not a bass monster, but also not fully broken in yet.
Love this center speaker. It brought my theatre room back to life.
This center channel speaker is great for my bedroom system. Sounds great and was easy to install. System still not complete but what an upgrade. Much better sounding movie content now and will recommend this speaker.
Pros: Good sound
Cons: None so far
Great speaker and perfect center for my 5.1.2 system. Not an audiophile or guru by any means, however, I listen to a very wide range of music and watch lots of movies. This is paired with Klipsh R-15 book shelf speakers in the front and 4 Sonance In-Ceiling speakers for the rear and atmos channels. The whole package is impressive to say the least! The Def Tech center does not overpower the others and is also not overpowered. Perfect balance between voices and "environmental" sounds during movies. Considered a 4 Star rating, only because of difficulties of mounting the speaker. Typical center channel speaker mounts handle a "spread" between the threaded inserts of up to ~9.5 inches. The spacing on this speaker is more like 12". My solution was to use a pair of Sanus WMS3 mounts. One on each side and mounted independently to the ceiling (pictures). However, this meant that I had to add extra blocking in the ceiling to allow for a sturdy mount. If a single mount could be used, alignment could be modified to hit a joist. Solid, Sturdy Speaker, Great Construction, Perfect Compliment to Other Speakers in Home Theater Setup.
Pros: Construction, Price (sale), Power, Phenomenal Sound
Cons: No Center Mount Option
Great sound. Even comes in white, which matches the shelf it sits on.
Met my needs at a fair price.
Pros: Good sound. Space savings design.
Great speaker. Has nice warm tone given hardwood floors / not much sound deadening material in the room.
Pros: Warm / clear dialog.
Cons: Front two feet could have had some rubber / grip material installed on them as the unit will slide if not careful. Store-bought shelf grip material fixed the problem.
This is a nice addition to my home theater, clean powerful sound.
I am using this as a center with my CAmbridge Audio Mini Minx 22 and Minx 301 sub. I am very happy with the performance of this speaker. Great bang for the buck in a nice size as well.
Pros: Sounds great. Nice compact size. Great price.
Great center speaker. Full sound for its size. I wanted white to match the decor and I would've wanted something with bigger woofers but had limited options. No regrets. The crutchfield service is next to none in the days of impersonal online shopping. So I always call just for that and I usually will price match.
Pros: Size. Color options. Full crisp sound
BASED ON THE REVIEWS I READ IT DOES EXACTLY WHAT IS SAYS AND HAS IMPROVED OUR SYSTEM
This speaker sounds great and is just the right size for putting on a 5 inch shelf attached to the top of my tv. I had now space to put a large speaker, this was a great solution.
Pros: Great sound for center speaker Just the right size
This replaced a older Bose center channel and I am very happy. Clear sound, provides better balance with my front L & R speakers. A very good purchase, especially for the price.
Pros: Clear sound, works as advertised.
Great center channel. Meets expectations for crisp clear sound that will have you hearing instruments that were barely audible before!
Pros: Sound clarity
Cons: None that I have experienced yet!
I added this to my existing system of Definitive Tech speakers and subwoofer. The sound is great and being available in white gives a nice clean look that even my wife can't complain about.
Pros: Sound, design, price
Great clarity and prescence. Makes even watching the news a more dynamic experience!
Pros: Excellent clarity, sharp prescence to dialogue, comes in white
I was reluctantly replacing a large 20 year old NHT center after purchasing a smaller cabinet. The Pro 1000 was a perfect choice with superb tonal quality for such a smaller speaker.
First impression is good sound given the size of the overall unit. But possibly consider a 'bigger' sounding unit if using with a projector.
Decent sound for the size and price point. Bought these for my brother's TV room for front and rear speakers. I roll with three center channel 2000's for my front L,C,R channels and two 1000's for the surround/rear. Overall, I am pleased and so is he.
Pros: good sound for price point
Cons: not much
I replaced 28 year old Polk S4 with the ProMonitor system, 2 - 1000 front speakers, 1 ProCenter 1000, & 2 - ProMonitor 800's. The ProCenter 1000 easily fits under the setup I have for my television. This speaker is smaller than what it replaced, yet the sound is fuller. The frequency response is wider than what I had, lower and higher than what I had. This enables clearer voice in the ProLogic mode. I have also used them in 7 channel stereo mode (mostly for breaking them in) and found they help fill the smaller living room with sound very well. The Crutchfield customer service spent about 30 minutes helping me sort through speakers that would match my requirements, very helpful
Pros: Full sound, wide frequency response. Voice comes through clear and easy to understand. Footprint is small enough to fit many situations.
Cons: Plastic cases shows scratches easily. Wire lugs are recessed and difficult to use if banana jacks are not used.
This speaker sounds great. It says it takes 30 days to "break in" and will apparently sound better, but I don't know how as it is great now. It is so little but it is amazingly better than a huge center speaker I'm replacing that is 10 times the size. I always have trouble making out the words but haven't had a problem with this speaker. I can't imagine what a larger or more expensive speaker would do as this works great.
Pros: Sounds Great Fits in tight spots
I have a big, open living room and this little speaker fills the room. It fit perfectly in the mantle under my tv which is mounted above a fireplace. Looks good, sounds great.
Pros: Small, great sound
Awesome center channel speaker. Amazingly clear and great addition to my surround sound system
Pros: Clear concise
This speaker is dynamic for it's size. When I received it, my first thoughts were, this will never do. I have some background noise (an aquarium pump) behind my viewing area. I was having difficulty hearing movie dialog with my previous center channel speaker. I hooked this one up and to my surprise it really helped with the dialog, I even had to turn my volume down from my previous setting when I connected it. As advised by Crutchfield, the metal tweeter would and did make a huge difference over a fiber one.
Pros: This is a great center channel speaker for it's size, especially if you don't have a lot of room under your TV, and will more than do it's job for an average size room. You will notice a difference in movie dialog over a fiber tweeter immediately.
Cons: The speaker itself has no cons, but my wife likes to listen to satellite radio as she cleans throughout the house. She said she wanted something that she could hear while cleaning in other rooms without blasting everyone out.. A more expensive center channel with a horn is probably the answer to solve that problem.
The Procenter 1000 sounds great, especially for its size. The room we use for movies and music is very open, but this speaker has vastly improved my ability to hear dialogue that I was struggling with previously. 100% happy with this speaker.
Pros: Sound Size
Great sound from a small center speaker. Kevin was a great help in selecting a center speaker and subwoofer that fit the space I had, played nicely with my other components (marantz AV and Infinity speakers), and delivered the sound improvements I wanted. Why waste time going to a stereo showroom (if you can find a decent one), when you can try something in your own home for 60 days? And the folks at Crutchfield are right about listening for a week before making a final decision; the speaker sounds even better after a week of use.
Pros: Small size, but full sound. Fits into a 5" high shelf. Simple to install and connect. Big improvement to my audio to have a center speaker.
Cons: Speaker does truly sound better after a break-in period (4-5 days or so). The sounds was very good from the start, but is truly better a week later. Don't make a hasty final judgement.
The sound is fantastic...But the area where the cable posts are is not much bigger than a couple of matchboxes and recessed. Nether me nor my wife could get our short, stubby fingers in there to attach the speaker cables. It must have been designed for someone with fingers like needle nosed plyers. It took us half an hour to get the cables attached to the posts. A half hour! But then, the sound was perfect. Dialogue that had been muddy in films was now crystal clear. Perfect sound, highly recommended as the reviews on the Crutchfield site said. Great value for the price, unless you have short stubby fingers.
Pros: Perfect sound, could not be happier with what the 1000 does.
Cons: Poorly designed cable post hookup area! I do not see how the company could let a design like this go out!
Very compact and nicely built. It works very well for dialog enhancement but does not blend well with other speakers so I would recommend changing your receiver setting to 'no center channel' for critical listening.
Pros: Size, build quality, dialog enhancement for video sources.
Cons: Sound quality not compatible with most hi-fi speakers.
Bought this center channel speaker to replace an old center channel speaker and the dynamic sound is amazing for our family room and added nicely to the current 5-1 set up
Pros: sound, attractive blends into built in white book shelves
Great center home theater speaker. I should have purchased this before hearing aids; much cheaper. Voices are clear even even in British movies with wispering.
Pros: Clear voices
sounds good ,nice addition to system
Pros: sounds good
Cons: do not like the shinny paint job,did not come with wall mount.
Pretty darn good sound especially in such a small package, which I needed in order to fit a good center speaker between my TV and mantle. Crutchfield was great with the recommendation, even when I called to inquire about a speaker at twice the cost which Levi said wouldn't perform as well in my situation. I love having the trust and faith in Crutchfield to get what I need, not what costs more!
Pros: Size, sound quality. Balanced well with sound from my Infinity Alpha floor towers, too.
Cons: None that I've found. It's not a long speaker, though, so it looks a little puny sitting up there underneath my 65" flatscreen.
Not only does it fit perfectly in the space in our TV cabinet, but being white it blends right in, and the sound it produces has balanced everything with the other speakers in our living room and I could not be happier with the quality of the sound.
The Definitive Technology ProCenter 1000 provides excellent center channel sound and clarity from a small compact design. The ProCenter 1000's short depth fits perfectly on a 5" fireplace mantel under my wall mounted TV and has a fairly low profile.
Pros: Great Center Channel speaker for the size & the price.
Cons: Not One.
Awesome great sound and compact.
Cons: So far so good
I bought the Mirage Nanosat system a few years back and always had a feeling the center speaker could be better. I finally asked Crutchfield what they recommended and they suggested the ProCenter 1000. I'm so glad I followed their recommendation. Before, the dialogue in movies always seemed drowned out. With the ProCenter 1000 the difference is like night and day. This is an excellent speaker and I definitely recommend it.
great small center sound speaker for my home theater room. hard to find white center speakers with matching right and left speakers.
Pros: looks and sounds great. half the size of my previous center speaker with twice the sound.
I listens to a concert DVD that I had for years and I heard instructions playing that I never heard - wonderful!
Pros: Small design fits well under the TV.
Speaker works well with the 6 Pro Monitor 800 bookshelf speakers. Very clear and powerful.
Excelent speaker. Love it for my 12'x12' room.
Pros: -super sound from tiny speaker. -clear and firm.
This speaker more than meets my expectations. Great sound quality, with crisp, clear vocals. Great size. Fits neatly under my TV
Pros: Great sound quality and great size
Cons: None so far
No significant improvement from my old old. low end JBL center speaker I'm replacing for trial right now. Honestly I think my JBL center is just as good or better. I will eventually set up the pro 1000 to replace a 5.1 sound bar set up but I still have not decided on a receiver.
Excellent product, flawless finish, nicely done. Sound is bright, crisp and clear with a decent response.
Pros: Compact size Black gloss piano finish Clean sound Compact size Adjustable foot pad to raise/lower sound listening field Lovely piece of technology made to meet my expectations.
Very pure and rich sound
Pros: Very accurate reproduction
Cons: depth it will stand out well past your Tv if mounted to the wall
Fantastic sound - looks great. Bought this center speaker as part of the DT surround sound package. The sound, along with the corner speakers and the bass subwoofer is fabulous
Pros: Looks good, excellent sound
Cons: None so far
This is a great quality, center channel speaker. The open box was a great deal as well. No complaints. The product looks good and functions as intended. Crutchfield's service is prompt and professional.
Pros: Sounds good, looks good, just works
Cons: None yet
My "man cave" is pretty small----11'x11' and I needed an up-grade for my center channel speaker. Since that speaker sits in front of my TV, it couldnt be too tall. This unit really meets all my requirements. It sounds great, whether it's watching a blu-ray movie or listening to music. I dont know if it would be powerful enough to work well in a large room for surround sound but I think it just might. Before you spend $300+ for a center channel speaker, check this baby out. I think it's rated for up to 200 watts.
Pros: Great sound, low profile
Cons: none so far
Very compact but wide freq range with power
was the only one that would fit above the fireplace mantelthe sound is goodand was only one that would fit
Pros: it fits sounds good
Cons: price is high the sound is good but not great a lot of better center channelout therefor around the same pricebut unfortunately none that would fitso space is a concern this is a good one if not you can do better
I've purchased this speaker to substitute a Pro600 central one. Nothing wrong with it, I just have a large room and I need more volume to hear the dialogues better. Oh boy if this toy does the job! I was so please right away! The quality is impeccable and the sound is crystal clear! I've purchased this as open box to save a little and the product looked immaculate (honestly, it is truly an open box, someone bought it, opened, tried it, didn't like it, put it back in the box).
Pros: Quality, design and price
i bought this because of reviews and more Importantly the size ! sounds like a stupid comment, but i have a built in shelf above tv, that is narrow and not very deep. the dimensions of this speaker fitted perfectly, also because the shelf was white, the fact that it came in white, was huge bonus.apart from all that, i wanted some thing that would perform well, with my NHT front speakers and onkyo receiver, the reviews were good, so i went with this model. like the sound so far and apparently after break in period it will sound even better. ( can't wait ).
Pros: great look and sound
Cons: not sure yet (:
I purchased a new home and left my speaker system in my old house (ProCenter 1000, (4) ProMonitor 800's) and did not hesitate to repurchase the same system even though my new house has a larger family room. The system actually sounds better due to the spacing of the speakers I was able to achieve in the new home even thought the room is 40% larger. My center channel is a bit lower and ther R/L/surrounds are higher and wider providing better separation. Additionally, I designed and built a custom mantle around my fireplace that embeds the ProCenter 1000 in the middle, so size was also a consideration.
Pros: Great size from a small speker; available in white.
I was looking for a high quality, yet unobtrusive center channel speaker and this is definitely it. It's compact, great looking and has great sound. It's also priced well so I highly recommend it.
Pros: Size, appearance, sound quality.
Cons: None, but I did consider the wall mounting brackets which are pricey. I ended up not buying them and am glad I passed.
I got the ProCinema 1000 system and it sounds really good. I just got the system set up, and they sound pretty good already. I'm running a Pioneer SC-1222-K digital amp (120W per channel @ 8 ohms). There's a lot to learn with this system, and there's still some adjusting to do, but I'm really satisfied with the sonic reproduction so far. For the record, I've been completely hooked on the sound of my Denon PMA-777 and KEF 104/2 with Kube for 30 years and have never found anything that sounds as sweet, and that includes this system. That being said, this is one of the best sounding 5.1 speaker systems I've heard. The 1000 is sufficient for my small room; I'm sure the 2000 is also great if you need it.
Pros: Sound great Look good
Cons: Inset wire posts make it hard to use bare wires, banana plugs are a must Shiny black finish collects dust (OK, that's more because I live in a rural setting, and everything's dusty!)
Big crisp sound from a small package
Works well with my denon receiver
Pros: Sounds great
The Definitive Tech ProCenter 1000 is a solid center speaker for our large master bedroom. It can be easily mounted on the wall with two ProMounts. I got the white model, and this also complements a pair of white front Polk Audio OWM3 speakers.
Pros: Great sound and look.
I love how its sound in my apartment
I used the reviews posted for this product choice and couldn't be more happy with the install. This center channel is driven by a Denon AVR 1613. Adding this center channel has improved the video and audio experience tremendously. highly recommended.
Pros: easy set up, arrived from Crutchfield with no damage.
Very satisfied. This center speaker matched very well with my BP7006 towers and 450 Studio monitors acting as surrounds. This center channel completes this A/V setup. Cosmetics are nice too. Arrived quickly and well packaged by DT & Crutchfield. Couldn't be happier.
Pros: excellent quality, reasonable price.
easy to install with center speaker I have sound all around me.
Pros: small and fits under my TV table
I'm one of those guys who is hard to satisfy. I try many different products until I am satisfied that I have found the very best that my budget will buy. Well, after trying probably seven different sound bars including a $2000 job I decided to go back to a receiver and separate speakers. This is the third set of separates I am trying and these will be my last. My previous set was the Polk Blackstone TL3's and they were very good. Nothing bad at all to say about them but I thought I could do better. These Definitive Technology ProMonitor 1000's along with the ProCenter 1000, I believe are the best that I could get for the money and much more. The size is perfect for my set-up. For my ears these speakers WOW me whether it's music, movies or TV. I am so pleased and happy that I gave these speakers a try.
Pros: Clear voice/dialog
Good sound and look very good
Pros: Perfect for my room
I am using 2 ProCenter 1000s as surround speakers in a media room. Since the surround speakers were going to be mounted on the wall, I needed the speakers to be white and I wanted to speakers to match other DefTech speakers. I am using the ProCenter 1000s with StudioMonitor fronts and the balance is great. Movies, music and basic TV programs all sound terrific. I was also impressed with how the ProCenter 1000s kept up with the larger front speakers at high volume levels.
Pros: plays well with larger DefTech speakers, available in white
This small speaker fills the room as well as most I have ever tested even at much higher prices. Clarity depth and accuracy. Wow. Amazing value.
Pros: Powerful accurate
Cons: Not enough time to enjoy it
I bought this as a space saver. I placed it in front of my 46" Samsung, but it blocked the bottom of the screen about an inch. I needed to build a platform to raise my TV, and I really wanted a little more of a warmer sound than these speakers would offer so I exchanged them for the 2000 model with no hassle. My platform on the stand needed to be 2 " high. Also I added an oak board to the back of the stand. Now, it is at ear level and the sound is much warmer. It works great.
Pros: Small, Good Quality, Great Service at Crutchfield.
Cons: Sound not warm enough.
It NEVER is on sale so don't wait for this superb choice for a center channel speaker. The sound quality blows me away. Great highs, lows, and everything in between. I waited for a scratch and dent but I think open box returns and scratch and dent are hard to come by. I am very critical of my sound system and all I can say is WOW!! The details of every voice and note are right there, no question about it. It is the perfect size for an entertainment cabinet. This was my first Definitive Technology speaker purchase and I will surely trust them with future purchases. I did the research and would not have spent the money unless it was 100 percent true what others have said about how truly great this center channel performs. Yes, there are less expensive speakers, but worth every penny for what this one delivers.
Pros: FANTASTIC dynamic range, PERFECT size, EASY hookup, HANDSOME appearance, GREAT quality.
I purchased this speaker to replace the center speaker of my KEF wall mounted 5.1 system. The center speaker is the most important speaker in a home theater system, and the KEF did not have the depth of range I desired. The Def Tech 1000 is the perfect companion to the rest of my KEF system. I chose the 1000 because of my size restriction. I don't feel I sacrificed much from what a larger center speaker would have provided. I was pleasantly surprised how good this speaker looks as well, the cabinet is very attractive. Considering the sound delivered and the low price, the ProCenter 1000 is a 10.
Pros: Sound, compact size, attractive cabinet, reasonable price
This completed my Def Tech masterpiece. I'm running a 7.1 system but for some reason my center channel was the last thing I ordered. Once setup, my house absolutely shook with base and crisp clean highs. I can not believe what a difference the smallest piece of my sound system makes.
I chose this speaker because of space limitations in my surround system. It is an excellent center channel provided you have a high quality subwoofer to roll off everything below 75-100 hz.
Pros: Small size and excellent midrange and treble response.
I have tried and used about 10 Center Channels in my lifetime and needed a small Center Channel that would have high power handling and would play down to at least 50HZ. I ordered the Definative Pro Center 1000. It met every expectation I was hoping for. High power handling and clean sound. I have Dynaudio for the rest of my speakers along with Appo, Parasound and Octave Tube Amp for Front Stage. For the money, nothing touches this speaker. If I had room I would get one with a powered sub but it won't fit proplerly. The Fit and Finish is superb and can play with the best of audiophile speakers. I am totally satisfied with Definative Products as well as Crutchfield Customer Service. Best Regards Larry C. Pittsburgh , Pa
Pros: High Power Handling, Clean and will go down to 45hz or so .
Cons: Can't think of any Cons
Purchased this item as part of the Pro-Cinema 1000 package. Great sound and quality. I would recommend this package.
Pros: Sound, quality, compactness, appearance
Cons: A bit pricy
So far so good...easy install, great look, andm impressive. Haven't quite "cranked it up" yet, but am looking forward to it.
Pros: Value, aesthetics
Excellent, clear crips sound from small center speaker. Makes talking heads on TV far more easy to understand. Also nicely designed cabinet if exposed. Definitive's products are attractive visually as well as aurelly.
a lot of bang for the buck exceeded my expectations
One of the best center channel speaker for my 450 sq. ft. of media room.
I replaced an Infinity center channel speakers from an Infinity surround sound speaker system. The satellite speaker were fine and so was the sub-woofer. I needed a good center channel to give the system a full body sound for dialogue. The Definitive Tech Pro 1000 has more than accomplished this. The dialogue from films is now very robust. I recommend this speaker for anyone who needs better center channel voice and richer mids
Wow, o'wow, what a sound from such a little but heavy box. When i received the unit, i installed it in ten minutes and replace my mini-Bose center speaker and what a BIG difference in sound quality and volume. i put on a adventure movie that had great sound effects and could not believe my ears. For multiple years, i have been underating the sound qualities of movies and action shows on my sound system and should have upgraded years ago. The service from Crutchfield was great as i was waiting for the last component (sound wires) to shipped and was not aware of its delivery that evening until i read an email on my blackberry telling me that it had arrived on my front porch. if it were not for the great service notification system that Crutchfield possess, the last order would be sitting at my front door over the weekend.
I purchased the Onkyo TX-NR808 along with Definitive speakers and it sounds great. I have a wall unit with my 50" Samsung flat screen. My couch backs right up to a wall and it prevented me from installing speakers behind it and my wife did not think it would look good to have satellite speakers on the wall behind left and right of the couch. In fact, she refused to let me install the satellites no matter how small and she said the only way I could do it is to install them in the ceiling so no body could see them. "Light Bulb" went off, great Idea. I purchased Definitive ProMonitor 800s for each side of the TV, ProCenter 1000, ProSub1000, and 3 DI 4.5 ceiling speakers to create 6.1 sound. The speakers are mounted approx 12' above the couch and I could not ask for better sound. The perfect setup!
Gets five stars for good sound at this price. This speaker delivers good sound at a great price. I employ it as the center speaker in a surround sound system in a 17 ft deep by 15 feet wide room with 9 ft ceilings. My opinion is that it would also work in rooms larger than this. Does a great job of anchoring the center sound. Sound quality is good, not great. But for the money it delivers. Tone is biased to mid-range and bass. Construction is excellent. Has a center screw foot in the bottom back allowing the speaker to be tilted forward if the speaker is on a high shelf. This is how I have it installed. Also has two threaded mounting inserts for wall mounting. I got the white model.
This center channel is top notch. The size is small, although the sound is big. The best purchase I have made in a long time. Thanks Crutchfield for carrying Definitive Technology!
Definitive Technology speakers are critically acclaimed for their value and performance. I'm so glad Crutchfield now carries their line. Check out the reviews yourself online and you'll see. Buy this speaker, you won't be disappointed! For the money, you can't beat it. These will outperform any Polk, Klipsch, Mirage, and Infinity speakers in their price range...easy!

Overview: The Definitive Technology ProCenter 1000 video-shielded center-channel speaker utilizes state-of-the-art components (BDSS driver coupled with a pressure-driven planar low-frequency radiator, a pure aluminum dome tweeter, a uniphase crossover network, and a non-resonant PolyStone cabinet with low diffraction construction) in order to achieve the most lifelike sound possible in your listening room. As much as 75% of a movie's soundtrack is played by the center-channel loudspeaker making it arguably the most important speaker in a home theater system. The ProCenter 1000 loudspeaker is ideal for use as a center-channel speaker in conjunction with Dolby Surround Sound Pro-Logic and Dolby Digital decoding.
Pressure Coupled Radiator Design: The ProMonitor center-channel speaker provides clear, high-definition sound by pressure-coupling Definitive's exclusive BDSS technology drivers to two equal-sized mid/bass radiators cleverly placed on the sides of the center-speaker. This technique doubles the lower-midrange radiating area of the speaker without increasing the size of the enclosure. The result is a warm and life-like sound.
BDSS Technology: Definitive Technology's Balanced Double Surround System (BDSS) driver offers a wide-bandwidth accurate frequency response, broad dispersion, low distortion, and detail retrieval; so you hear more the music with greater accuracy and enjoyment. BDSS drivers incorporate the following design features.
Drivers: The Definitive Technology ProCenter 1000 features two 4-1/2" BDSS driver coupled to two side-firing 4-1/2" pressure-driven planar low-frequency radiators, and a 1" pure aluminum dome tweeter.
Break-In Period: The ProCenter 1000 loudspeaker will sound good right out of the box; however, an extended break-in period of 20-40 hours or more of playing is required to reach full performance capability. The break-in period allows the suspensions to work in and results in full bass, a more open midrange, and smoother high frequency reproduction.
Non-Resonant PolyStone Cabinet: The Definitive Technology ProCenter 1000 uses a non-resonant PolyStone cabinet with low diffraction construction. The speaker cabinet is available in a high-gloss black or white finish. The speaker's cabinet features a removable cloth grille.
Binding Posts: The ProCenter 1000 is equipped with a pair of gold-plated, 5-way binding posts to attach your receiver's speaker wire.
Mounting: The Definitive Technology ProCenter 1000 can be mounted on a stand or shelf; or even wall-mounted. The ProCenter 1000 has two threaded inserts (1/4"-20) on the back, which can be used with a pair of optional Definitive Technology ProMount brackets (735PMT80, sold separately) or other manufacture wall-mount bracket (sold separately) to mount the ProCenter 1000 on the wall.
Placement: The Definitive Technology ProCenter 1000 can be placed above or below your television.
Angle Adjustment: The ProCenter 1000 loudspeaker has a simple built-in device which allows you to adjust the vertical angle of the speaker. There is an adjustable rubber-foot on the bottom-rear of the speaker cabinet. when you set the center-channel speaker down, the speaker will lean back and rest on this foot. By varying how far you screw in-and-out the foot, you can adjust the vertical angle of the speaker. It is recommended that you aim the center-speaker so that it aims directly towards the height of the listeners' ears.
