Concentrated bass — this compact cube will amaze you

Definitive's Technology's SuperCube 4000 subwoofer proves that powerful bass doesn't require a big box. The tried-and-true SuperCube formula features an active woofer and two same-sized passive radiators, all driven by a brawny 1,200-watt amplifier. This sub will fill your room with sound while taking up less than a cubic foot of space.

Rock-solid bass requires rock-solid construction

Grille off

The SuperCube 4000 sub uses a new class of high-efficiency amplifier to bring 1,200 watts to bear. Its clean muscle is preceded by a 56-bit DSP pre-amp stage that kills distortion before it ever reaches the amp, let alone your ears. The SuperCube's 8" woofer is pressure-coupled to two 8" passive radiators. This driver array gives the 4000 the capability for far greater speed, musicality, and control than the typical large single-woofer sub. The ultra-stiff woofer is encased in an incredibly rigid basket engineered to hold the massive magnet structure and large voice coil in absolute alignment. The non-resonant front and back panels are nearly 2" thick and use multiple internal bracings to make sure that you hear clean bass without sound-muddying vibrations.

Flexible inputs and advanced controls

Line-level and speaker-level inputs let you connect this sub to just about any audio system. The continuously variable low-pass crossover allows you to precisely control the frequencies that your subwoofer handles. And the disappearing display lets you monitor the 4000's settings while you adjust them with the included wireless remote.

This one, a SC 4000, is my second super cube--the other one is a SC 6000 and I use it it my main system This one is for a smaller system in my office. Beautiful build quality, as one won expect from DT. Nice tight bass, not boomy. Got it as "scratch and dent" but if there is a cosmetic flaw I sure can't see it.

Nice sub!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A lot of sound out of a little box and very easy to set up. It puts out so much sound that I have not seen a need to turn it up above half way. At my settings, I have not seen any distortion or "clapping" as others have stated.

Pros: Great sound from a little box!

Cons: If you are willing to pay the price, I see no cons.

This sub is amazing! I was skeptical about its size, but it rattles the upstairs from being installed in the corner of the basement theater. My wife hates it in all the right ways. That's how you know it's good!

Great bass for such a small sub. This sub has set the standard for small subs for quite a few years now. In a small to medium space, it does not disappoint.

Pros: The Supercube 4000 fits in tight spaces and is attractive with gloss black top and bottom surround. In Addition, the included remote is very handy to have near by.

Cons: Display looks hokey.

DefTech SuperCube 4000 Meets All My Goals

Thomas from Seattle on 6/4/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After 21 years of having the M&K V-125 subwoofer, which, in its own right, was a very good subwoofer, it was time (read, I had enough disposable income to afford a new subwoofer) for the behemoth M&K to find a new home, and time for the, Definitive Technology SuperCube 4000, to take its place. The SuperCube 4000 is an amazing piece of engineering, and produces deep, deep bass with a punch, and directionless sound that is so much better than my old M&K. And its size is so small, exactly what I was hoping to find in a subwoofer! Add the super convenience of its remote, and the SuperCube 4000 is a grand slam home run, in my humble opinion. I purchased this subwoofer for a two channel, purely music listening experience, and for this purpose, it has met all of my expectations, and more. The room size where it is placed is, 18'x14', and has no trouble putting out great sounding bass with the volume set at mostly 23, sometimes 24, EQ off, phase 0. Very satisfied, so far!!! :)

Pros: Small, powerful, tight bass notes, remote, energy efficient, good looking, excellent warranty

Cons: Pricey, but the sales discount at Crutchfield made it a no-brainer!

Loud for it's size, but dirty "clapping" bass

Brian from Los Angeles, CA on 3/31/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was recommended this sub by a Crutchfield sales rep after I first purchased a Klipsch R-12SW and felt like it wasn't giving me enough "boom" for my size room. I was suspicious that a little 8" sub would be able to perform well enough and be loud enough. He assured me it would be plenty because of the huge amounts of watts this thing packs - he said it'd be like having a 16" sub. I plugged it into my Denon AV receiver and re-ran my Auto-EQ to get everything set right. It was boomy and loud, especially considering how small it is, but had the worst clapping sound when heavy bass would hit. CLAP CLAP CLAP! I messed with the settings a bunch, took off the lid that rests on the top (read one review that said that makes it rattle) and even pulled down the mess cover in case the driver was hitting it, but no matter what I did, when the sub really worked it sounded horrible. It was very distracting for movies and music alike. Felt like the little speaker was going to pop. I hadn't returned my Klipsch sub yet, so for comparison I plugged that back in. Ahhh.. nice smooth bass again. When the Klipsch was really pushed, the 12" driver would deliver smooth deep bass that sounded good and didn't distract me. With the Def Tech, I kept hearing that horrible clapping sound. The Klipsch R-12SW is half the price and sounds SO much better than this SuperCube 4000. I wish the R-12SW delivered a little more, but I'd take the clean sound over this little cu

Pros: It's small, so if you need to squeeze it into a small space, it's great for that. It's loud, considering it's size.

Cons: When it's really performing it sounds horrible.

Impressive sound from a small enclosure

Alfred from Waltham, MA on 2/26/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This subwoofer was all that I expected and a bit more. Because I live in a small space and in an apartment to boot, I needed one that fit physically and sonically. It has taken my enjoyment of movies and music to a whole new level. The convenience of the remote is a real plus in terms of initial set up and changing the volume to suit the situation. Definitely not frivolous.

Pros: Strong bass remote adds convenience looks good my wife says

Cons: expensive may not be right for someone who want to break windows and glassware.

Pros: Just the way I like it.

So good!

Brian from Felton, DE on 10/16/2016

This is the .2 in my KEF E series 7.2 dedicated theater room. Powered by the Yamaha RXV-675. Love this little sub that does BIG things for movies and music! Tight and accurate bass that digs really deep without distortion. Thinking of upgrading my fronts and center channel to KEF Q900 and Q600C to match the abilities of the Def-Tech sub. My last sub was a Polk Audio in a Bose and Set up powered by a Technics receiver. I'm embarrassed of the money I dumped into that set up and the let down it was.

Pros: Small on footprint BIG on performance!

Cons: None

Super Subwoofer

Michael from Mountain Lakes, NJ on 3/14/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The SuperCube 4000 more than met all my needs for my perfect subwoofer. I'm in the process of upgrading my whole audio system so I set my subwoofer budget around the $600-800 range. I initially visited some big name stores to audition some speakers but was turned off by their staff's lack of some basic knowledge. I ran over to Crutchfield and was advised to check out the SC4000 because I mentioned that size was a key criteria for me as well. I am so happy with the SC4000. I bought a scratch & dent model (it arrived nearly flawless) and came within budget. The sub has such a small footprint that it got immediate approval from my wife. The bass is accurate, super tight and the sound is just right without any muddy boom. I would highly recommend this sub!

Pros: Size Good looks Solid build quality Accurate, tight bass

Cons: Still pretty pricey Mesh cover is annoying

Difinitive Tech SuperCube 4000

James from Washington on 12/1/2015

The Infinity PS312 12" sub puts the SuperCube 4000 To Shame and it was half the price. Its a decent for movies but horrible for music. It has to be adjusted from song to song and distorts and makes a bad pop noises if it doesn't like the bass note or is a turned up a tad to much. The infinity Sounds great turned way up and different bass notes doesn't make the ps312 sound like crap or distort. The Super Cube 4000 is over rated and overpriced. I would send it back an trade for another Infinity PS312 and lose the dollar difference in a heartbeat if Crutchfield would let me.

Pros: Good for movies if you have it set on the right frequency

Cons: Distorts if up a little to loud. And you have to change the settings on each song for it to not make a distorted popping noise making it sound extremely cheap. Over priced and not near as loud as you think when claimed to run 1,200 Watt continues power. Infinity ps312 is rated at 400watts continues and is much cleaner and louder and doesn't distort. Also PS312 was half the price.

I managed to pick up this subwoofer when it was on sale. Crutchfield was very helpful as I initially purchased the SuperCube 2000, but then exchanged it for the SuperCube 4000 which turned out to be a better fit for my home theater room. It has a solid punch and is a match to my other DT speakers: Di5.5 LCR, Di5.5BPS, and the Di5.5R In-wall and In-ceiling speakers.

Pros: Small size, good power, very stylish. Also remote is handy.

Cons: Everything positive so far.

I bought this definitive SuperCube 4000 at Crutchfield the ordering process was easy and I received the subwoofer in less than a week I like the features I like the LED readout and remote the sound is great without being overpowering especially while playing movies and music. I purchased the SuperCube 4000 to replace a ELAC subwoofer that fell victim to a power surge.the definitive SuperCube 4000 happened to be on sale and I also used purchase points which save me some money

Pros: sound LED readout remote high-gloss cabinet the size purchase discount.

Cons: none at this time

Great Little Sub

Zach from Pennsylvania on 2/25/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This little subwoofer is awesome. Puts out rather impressive bass for only an 8" driver. Rattled a picture frame right off my wall! Sub does tend to distort if it's turned up too loud, however I've not really found this to be a problem. Blends very well with music and is a great addition for movie watching and gaming.

Pros: Small enclosure with great bass. A reputable company

Cons: Will distort if turned too loud (but it's gotta be pretty loud to distort)

Def Tech 4K

Mike P from Arizona on 1/23/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is an amazing little sub. I bought it mostly for a mini system I have going on my kitchen table with definitive technologies desk top/ computer speakers. this is an awesome combo., the sub so far has spent most of its time on my big system- 5.1 (now 5.2 surround with all Klipch speakers and a paradigm sub. The sub musically is near perfect in my opinion for my home in my living room, tight, precise sound and able to capture deep full movie effects as well as a large variety of music types- I love classical at low volumes where the sub really draws out the full richness of the bass instruments. I also love space/ ambient music and am learning to enjoy more and more some of the different modern music mixed with rich bass tones (mostly synth. or bass guitar). This can be anything from Enigma, The Gorillaz or even some hip hop, or techno dance music. I know it is not the perfect sub for big movie effects (not earth shattering by any means), but powerful and adequate. BTW- the folks at Crutchfield and Def Tech, cust. serv. were awesome.

Pros: Compact, will fit anywhere. Musically responsive, great for mini systems or as an add on to a full surround. I like the different EQ effects, and the remote is a lot of fun to puts around with as I listen.

Cons: The only thing I have found so far that I am not fond of (for this reason 4 stars) is that a low volumes the sub seems to quick to time out and turn itself off even though it is getting some signal. This problem has been solved on my Yamaha surround receiver by plugging into the 12V port.

Somewhat impressed

Dre' from Colorado Spring, Colorado on 8/4/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Supercube 4000 comes packaged very nice and has an awesome appearance. The stereo that I am using to push it is a Sony STRDA1800ES using an Audio Quest Black Lab Coax. The woofer has very nice rolling bass. It also has good hard hitting bass. One of the things that I noticed is that it distorts when you turn the volume on the up to about 23 and turn the volume up on the stereo. When I turned the volume on the speaker down to about 20, it does not distort. Other that that it is a good sounding woofer. Just wish it were a little cheaper

Pros: Size Sound Looks great Easy setup

Cons: Price Distorts at loud volume

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I splurged on this subwoofer, but I am glad I have. I was planning on purchasing a sub that was on sale at $399, but it was twice size of this one. I am realing enjoying this so far because it sound awesome, looks great, fits in a small place and it comes with a remote so you can adjust it to your liking. I have paired it with a new Yamaha Home Theatre Receiver RX-A2020 and it makes this sound even better! I high recemmend this for anyone wanting a great sub, but worried about the size.

Pros: -Sounds great! -Easy to use -Remote is great to make many adjustments -looks greats

Cons: -A little pricey, but well worth it so far!

Little with a BIG punch

BillG from L.I. N.Y. on 4/13/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This little dynamo is very deceiving. It is so small and has big base. I have a really big Velodyne sub, that is the size of a large end table. I'm not comparing the two because the Velodyne with a 15" speaker can relocate the furniture. I can't believe the weight and base the the Def Tech compact powered sub has. It is just what I needed to go with my 11.2 system. The remote on the Def Tech is more versatile then the one for my very expensive Velodyne. If you need your sub to get lower low's go for the 6000 or 8000 depending on your budget.

Pros: Very small it can fit anywhere, it is set up to go wireless and it has a lot of power. The remote is a big plus , the price and construction is even better.

Cons: The bad part about being so small is that you don't get the furniture moving low's of a big explosion in a movie.

Great sub just dont turn it up

Doc from abilene on 3/18/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had high expectations for this sub as I wanted to keep all my speakers manufactured by the same company. The supercube 4000 does sound great and can put out some good sound. Its good down to about 25Hz and sounds great with just about any kind of music from country to reggae. Its precise, and warms up the room with sound. Now, I like to listen to my music loud and this is where it starts to distort some. I had reservations about this sub because it is only 8" and even with the bass radiators was not sure of its ability to put out some loud sound without distorting. I did notice it start to distort which is why I believe they include a remote (which was missing in my box) to turn it up and down as you turn your stereo up. Great speaker, its just not for me.

Pros: Great sound, precise and room filling

Cons: Sub is only 8" with bass radiators, it will distort if you turn up without turning the sub down.

Great Sub, Bangs hard, shakes my Apt and my neighbors hate me.

AudioHead from San Diego, CA on 1/5/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The reason I gave it a 4 instead of 5 is because of the compatibility of the wireless kit. Other than that the sub bangs and has a quality sound. I listen from the outside of my Apt and the sound resonates, my windows rattle and my neighbors hate me. I bought the wireless kit same brand and it works iffy at best. I have to constantly unplug the sub to regain connectivity. After that, that started not to work. I have to manual repair it becomes annoying. One I do not like also is the red LEDs, Blue is easier on the eyes. P.S and for those who say dumb comments like a 350 watt sub sounds the same must have been drop on the head as a child.

Pros: Sound is a blast and well worth name, not the price.

Cons: Red LED Light and the wireless kit sucks.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this sub to replace a 1300 watt ht sub and it has no trouble at all keeping up with the other two subs I have. Worth the price indeed.

Pros: Great sound, deep bass, nice design over all.

Cons: A little pricy, easy to turn it too loud.

SuperCube 4000 Very Impressive

Art from Monrovia, CA on 11/6/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The SuperCube 4000 is amazing. I use it as a supplement to my Polk tower speakers. The bass and tonality of it is truly remarkable. Size was definitely a consideration in selecting this sub. I needed something small and unobtrusive. I don't have surround sound for my living room TV. So after I added the sub, my wife and I were really impressed. We never realized we were missing so much depth and feel of the audio portion of the movies we watch. It really enhances our viewing experience. I would definitely recommend this sub to anyone in the market for one.

Pros: Small size, large sound (if you want it). It also allows you to custom tailor the lower frequencies to suit your taste. Multiple types of hookups in the back. You should be able to connect this sub to just about anything you might have.

Cons: It seemed a little pricey at first, but after I hooked it up, we were not disappointed.

Part of a Definitive Technology home theater set up with ceiling speakers and XTR 50 center in a 14x30 open room. Placed it in a corner across from TV. Impressed with the clarity and fullness of the bass in such a large room. More than sufficient. Replaced a Bose bass module home theater set up....not even close.

Pros: Fullness and clarity. Flexibility of setup

Cons: Pricey.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am a 2 channel music lover...I've been enjoying music before there was 2 channel...I'm hard to please, my amp has big tubes, my room is acoustically treated and so on.. I've had the belief that a sub had to be big and heavy to reach down to get those gruntin' notes. A couple of subs I've recently tried couldn't do it... Let me tell you this Definitive Tech 4000 is a real musical delight to listen to, fits my system perfectly. I would describe the sound as a "punch" a nice clean punch or kick, no rumble. When a base note hits can hear the strings.. great sound!. Having the ability to set-up the unit from your chair is also a big plus... A little about Churtchfield, The first unit I received had a slight problem, (turns out it was the remote). A new sub was at my house 3 days later... the exchanged was flawless. You cannot go wrong with this outstanding Virginia company..

Pros: Small in size, big in sound

Cons: none

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought 4 PM 1000's, a PC 2000, and a SC 4000 to upgrade from an Onkyo box theater system. I was a little hesitant to spend the money but I am glad I did, there is no comparison this is the best speaker set up I have ever owned. I went with the SC 4000 because of the wireless ready option and because my room is a decent sized room. The wireless kit works great once a found a good spot and being wireless gave me plenty of options. When I first unpackaged the sub woofer I was worried I spent $800 dollars poorly. This is a good example of size not being everything. In fact the small size is a benefit. The bass output amazed me. I never did hear the Pro Sub 1000 but I am definitely glad I went with this one, worth every penny. Before I purchased I contacted both Def Tech and Crutchfield with a few questions I had and the customer service I received was excellent. I am now a Def Tech and Crutchfield enthusiast and would recommend this set up to anyone looking for a great value for what you get.

Pros: Small compact size with a surprising bass out put. Wireless ready. The remote comes in handy. Hidden digital display makes for easy viewing.Even being pushed hard they maintain great quality sound. Great value (even though I thought the cost was a little much, after setup it was without a doubt worth every penny) Customer Service from Def Tech and Crutchfield, 10 out of 10.

Cons: None so far.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This sub is a replacement for a Velodyne DLS-3500R. The velodyne was a ported 8" sub which also had a remote to tune it in and I was happy with how it performed but it quit working and I needed a replacement so after a lot of research I decided on the Def. Tec. SC 4000. My speakers are Mythos Two's in the front with a Mythos Three center, a couple of Polk RM's for height, Two Polk Dipole surrounds and a couple more Polk RM's for the rear this completes my 9.1 system. The receiver is a Pioneer SC-67. I am Totally in awe of the sound that comes from this little sub it just blew me away After about 2 and 1/2 hrs. of tuning it in it has a great balance between movies and concert Blu-Rays. I don't need the whole house shaking but this sub can shake it. I did tune it down to get that clean bass that is needed for both movies and music and this little cube can provide all that I need. I am totally giddy right now and I plan on playing with this for a couple of weeks till its break in period is over. My room is 18 X 12 and this sub will rock it out. I can not speak for larger rooms. I also like my bass to complement my movies and music not steal the show.

Pros: Great sound highly tunable. Really powerful.

Cons: non so far

Was very surprised at the amount of bass that was able to come from such a small cube. Hightly recommend to pair with Mythos speakers

Pros: Small size, powerful bass

Cons: adjustment of crossover and phase could be better

Not worth the price

Rusrobin from Collierville, TN on 6/15/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The sub has an impressive look and the remote volume and crossover adjustments are nice the sub sounds like a $250 sub and it will distort/bottom out when pushed hard. If you want a sub to impress your guest while watching an action movie in your theater room or while listening to bass heavy music then keep shopping. I tested the sub on two different sound systems while playing music from an ipod and then watching a Blue Ray DVD and again with Digital Cable(movies and music channels).

Pros: Impressive look and remote volume and crossover adjustments are nice.

Cons: Sounds like a $250 sub. Distorts and does not deliver strong bass sound.

This cube is small but gives enough earthquake in your family room. The dedicated woofer joined the home theatre system from "Energy" front towers, surround sound, and center speakers created a complete set of 7.1. The system is powered by Harman Kardon receiver. Tested sound with "Transformer" movies, it really vibrated the window and any hanging materials such as picture frames, and mirrors. Perfect for home theatre for an average size family room. Give it a 4 star because of the EQ feature, I only interested in low frequency, nothing else.

Pros: The LED on the front of the woofer is neat for adjusting purposes by the remote. Its compact size can easily hide behind a love seat or sofa.

Cons: I'm not too thrill about the predefined EQ feature on woofer. I've done DJ, I like to be able to adjust EQ on my desired. This woofer don't have ouput port for coupling with other woofer.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Small in size. HUGE in sound, quality and dimension. This little beast adds the missing piece to my home theatre system. Coupled with Polk RTi A7s, CSiA6, and FXi A6 this monster just bangs out the bass and rounds out the experience. Movies will bring the true theatre experience to your ears and flutter your heart during action sequences. Music will have you running out the house to see if your neighbors are lining up to shut you down. I love it!!

Pros: small...loud...deep bass...not muddled.

Cons: My living room isn't big enough! LOL

Definitive Technology SuperCube Powered Sub: The Definitive Technology SuperCube 4000 is a compact, high-quality powered subwoofer intended for use in a music or home theater system. The SuperCube 4000 powered subwoofer allows for easy, seamless integration into almost any two-channel or multichannel speaker system; delivering true, accurate, & extremely deep bass in any room. The Definitive Technology SuperCube 4000 features a 1200-watt digital amplifier, 56-bit DSP, 8" woofer with dual 8" passive radiators, & an included wireless remote control. The SuperCube 4000 is finished in a piano-gloss black lacquer finish with a black non-removable cloth grille.

1200W Digital Tracking Amplifier: The Definitive Technology SuperCube 4000 features a 1200-watt (RMS) digital tracking amplifier that is optimized for real world power demands to deliver low distortion & high output. As well as producing high continuous power to cleanly reproduce sustained bass (down to 16 Hz), this all-new Definitive Technology digital amp has a high crest factor to deliver considerably higher power during short, transient peaks such as bass drum kicks & on-screen artillery blasts. You'll enjoy high volume, high impact, & low distortion bass from your favorite action/adventure films & TV shows without sacrificing the smooth response & quick precision needed for music.

Note: As well as being powerful, the new Definitive Technology digital amp is environment-friendly. The amplifier goes into idle mode after less than 30 minutes of no audio signal. When in idle mode the amp draws a mere 1/2 Watt or less of current, meeting international standards for low energy consumption.

56-Bit Digital Signal Processor (DSP): The Definitive Technology SuperCube 4000 has an integrated 56-bit Digital Signal Processor (DSP) that extends & improves the bass response. Multiband digital protection systems tightly monitor & control the woofer system to prevent distortion & woofer damage at ultra-high volume levels with a minimum of audible artifacts. In contrast to simpler one-band compression/limiting circuits used in competing subwoofer amp designs, the Definitive Technology SuperCube 4000 features a Multiband Dynamic Range Optimizer (M-DRO) that divides the frequency range into multiple bands. If the DSP detects an overdrive condition in the upper bass range, it applies just the right amount of compression & to prevent distortion to just that range without compressing the low bass, thereby vastly reducing the audible compression artifacts. As a result, the SuperCube 4000's bass is always tight, highly detailed, & distortion free.

High Definition Drivers: The powerful, high-definition drivers used in the new SuperCubes were specifically engineered for their task: to deliver rock-solid low distortion bass, reaching down to the lowest frequencies (16-200Hz), with an outstanding quality of superior transient response ("tightness"). The special ultra-stiff cones are joined to specially formulated surrounds & long-throw voice coils & spiders. The incredibly rigid cast aluminum baskets are engineered to hold the massive magnet structures & large voice coils in absolute alignment. The high temperature voice coils are made of aluminum wound with triple insulated ultra-pure copper wire & baked in epoxy for superior power handling & reliability.

Passive Radiator Design: The SuperCube 4000 features an 8" subwoofer driver pressure coupled to two 8" Ultra Low Bass Radiators. The total piston area is greater than a 12-inch diameter woofer but with far greater speed, musicality, & control than a single large diameter woofer could ever deliver.

Non-Resonant Cabinet: The cabinet of a loudspeaker plays a large part in its sonic performance. Resonance & vibration can add unwanted distortion as well as drain away important acoustical energy from the system. Definitive's subwoofer enclosures have been specifically engineered to be totally inert & vibration free, to ensure you of absolutely pure sonic reproduction. The front and rear panels are nearly 2" thick & the cabinet incorporates multiple internal braces to ensure total solidity. The SuperCube 4000 is finished in piano-gloss black lacquer finish.

Ultra-Compact Design: The SuperCube 4000 measures only 11.0625" (w) x 11.875" (h) x 12.5" (d). Measurements include rubber-feet & cables.

Interchangeable Feet: The SuperCube 4000 comes with 4 rubber-feet & 4 spiked-feet for safe & secure placement of the powered subwoofer on your carpet or hardwood floors. The spiked feet add approximately 0.125" of height to the powered subwoofer.

Placement: There are some general guidelines that you should use when locating the powered subwoofer.

  • For best results, place the subwoofer on the same side of the room as your front speakers.
  • For maximum output, the subwoofer should be placed in a corner or against the wall, leaving approximately 2" to 4" clearance between the powered subwoofer and the wall(s).
  • Corner placement will increase the powered subwoofer's output.
  • An acoustic effect called "standing waves" or "room modes" may cause uneven bass at various locations throughout the room. This phenomenon is a function of the dimensions of the room and not due to the design of the powered subwoofer.

Protection Circuit: To prevent accidental damage to the subwoofer from overdriving the system, the SuperCube 4000 features an internal overload protection circuit, which will turn the subwoofer off or down when overdriven or overheated & will then resume normal operation after a few minutes.

Subwoofer Controls: A complete array of controls allow the SuperCube 4000 to be perfectly integrated with any stereo or multi-channel audio system, and tuned for optimum performance in any room.

Front-Panel LCD: A front-panel LCD alphanumeric character display (red) indicates control settings automatically & turns off when not in use. The front-panel LCD indicates Volume level, Crossover frequency, Phase, EQ mode, & Night mode.

Remote Control: In addition to the SuperCube 4000's rear-panel controls, the powered subwoofer comes with an IR remote control for wireless operation. The remote includes Power, Volume, Crossover, Phase, EQ, Night Mode, Mute, & Display controls.

Note: The remote operates off of a single 3V lithium battery (CR2025).

Volume Control: The SuperCube 4000 features a rear-mounted push-button volume control (0-40). This control is used to raise or lower the output level of the subwoofer in relation to the other speaker in your system.

Note: There is also a mute button on the remote control to zero the volume level quickly.

Variable Low-Pass Crossover: The Definitive Technology powered subwoofer features a continuous variable low-pass filter control on the back-panel. This filter is continuously variable between 40 and 150 Hz. It "rolls-off" (24dB/oct) the high-frequency response of your subwoofer so only low-frequencies below the desired setting will be heard. This low-pass filter control is used to obtain the optimum transition between the subwoofer and your main speakers.

Variable Phase Alignment: The powered subwoofer features a rear-panel push-button phase control (0/90/180/270-degrees). This control is used to perfectly blend the output of your subwoofer with your main speakers to compensate for any possible problems due to placement constraints.

EQ: You can toggle between 4 specific preset equalization settings to suit your music/movie soundtrack or preference.

  • EQ1: Maximizes deepest octave bass response at the sacrifice of maximum volume level (good choice for pipe organ & symphonic recordings). This setting should not be used a high volume levels.
  • EQ2: Raises relative level of mid-bass frequencies (good choice for hip-hop & rock music, or movie soundtracks with weak bass).
  • EQ3: Raises the level of mid- & ultra-low bass frequencies (a great setting for movies when not played at ultra-high volume levels).
  • EQ4: The best setting to use when achieving maximum volume levels with minimal distortion is more important than reproducing the lowest frequencies.

Night Mode: Night Mode applies dynamic range compression to the woofer so that the loudest bass in a movie doesn't get loud enough to wake the parents, kids, or spouse at night.

Auto Turn-On Circuit: The powered subwoofer has a special power circuit which automatically turns the powered subwoofer on when a signal is fed to the loudspeaker and turns it off when there is no signal present, so it does not require an on-off switch.

LED Indicator: The red LED on the back panel of the powered subwoofer will light up when a signal is sensed and the amplifier turns on. It will automatically turn off with the powered subwoofer, a little while after the signal is discontinued.

Line-Level & Speaker Level Connections: The Definitive Technology SuperCube 4000 powered subwoofer has a complete range of inputs & outputs to allow easy and effective hookup to any system. Both (high) speaker level & low-level inputs are provided in case you do not have a subwoofer output. In addition, the SuperCube 4000 has a separate direct-in LFE low-level input (which bypasses the crossover network).

LFE Input: The LFE input on the SuperCube 4000 is a mono-RCA input which is not affected by the subwoofer's low-pass filter or low-pass crossover control. It is designed to connect the SuperCube 4000 to a receiver which features a dedicated subwoofer output which features its own low-pass crossover filter.

Low-Level Inputs: If your receiver does not feature a dedicated subwoofer output, but does feature stereo RCA outputs, you can use the SuperCube 4000's stereo RCA low-level inputs (which provide its own dedicated variable low-pass crossover circuit) to connect the subwoofer to your receiver,

Speaker Level In: The Speaker Level inputs (5-way binding posts) are designed to be used on receivers or amplifiers that do not incorporate any RCA type subwoofer outputs. If your receiver is equipped with an RCA type subwoofer outputs, these speaker level inputs should not be utilized.

Remote Connections: The Definitive Technology SuperCube 4000 features 12V trigger & IR remote inputs.

  • 12V Trigger Input: 3.5mm jack which connects to the 12V trigger output of an AV receiver for one-button system turn-on.
  • IR Input: 3.5mm jack used to connect an optional IR remote repeater (sold separately), when the powered subwoofer is hidden & cannot be operated from the included IR remote control.

Detachable AC Power Cord: The SuperCube 4000 includes a detachable 7' AC power cord. The SuperCube 4000 must be plugged into a 120V, 60Hz electrical socket (use an unswitched outlet if possible).
