Hybrid Digital Amplification: NAD has moved away from the old-fashioned power-hungry linear power supplies and Class AB output stages that waste nearly half of the energy consumed and produce heat rather than sound. Instead, NAD has developed even better performing circuits based on switch mode power supplies and Class D output stages. Once thought to be inferior to traditional topologies, this new Hybrid Digital Amplifier design is very linear over a wide bandwidth and provides consistent performance into all speaker loads, providing a dramatic advancement over previous Class AB and Class D amplifier designs.

    • Customized Hypex UcD Output Stage: The C 368 uses a customized version of the proven Hypex UcD output stage operating in a fully balanced bridge configuration. This allows for massive power with nearly un-measurable distortion and noise in the audible range. Every detail of this design has been carefully planned and perfectly executed to deliver every last drop of performance.
    • Sophisticated Power Supply: The power supply is capable of 80 watts continuously and over 120 watts instantaneously to allow for short-term musical transients. It can operate with any AC mains voltage from 100 to 240 volts and provides pure DC power to all the various stages of the C 368. This highly efficient supply also provides near perfect regulation of voltage across a wide range of conditions and provides a solid noise-free foundation for the amplifying stages.

Full Disclosure Power (FDP): NAD uses Full Disclosure Power (FDP), the most demanding criterion for performance measurement. FDP specifies distortion under the most extreme conditions of low impedance loads and frequency extremes, rather than the simple and easy 1kHz @ 8 ohms test quoted by many of other manufactures. NAD uses this stricter performance criterion because it more closely matches the demands of real music and real loudspeakers. Maintaining specified distortion at 4/8Ω and at 20-20kHz is a much more difficult achievement. The benefit of NAD's Full Disclosure Power is the total elimination of audible distortion at any listening level. This provides pinpoint imaging and realism with music and movies alike.

    • Continuous Power:
      • Stereo: 80 watts x 2-channel (@ 20-20kHz, into 4Ω or 8Ω, at 0.03% THD, with both channels driven)
      • Bridged: 300 watts x 1-channel (@ 20-20kHz, into 8Ω, at 0.03% THD)
    • IHF Dynamic Power:
      • Stereo: 250W into 2Ω / 200W into 4Ω / 120W into 8Ω
      • Bridged: 560W into 4Ω / 400W into 8Ω

Bridge Mode: The C 368 amplifier can be configured to be MONO (Bridge Mode), more than doubling its output power. This way, the C 368 can be used as part of a high power stereo or home-theatre system, by connecting additional power amplifiers.

Binding Post Speaker Outputs: The amplifier features A & B speaker terminals to power two pair of loudspeakers. The speaker terminals consist of eight binding posts that will accept single banana plugs (single only), pin connectors, spade lugs, and bare wire (up to 10AWG). The amplifier supports 4Ω speakers when only one pair is connected, however, when two pair of speakers are connected a minimum impedance of 8Ω is recommended.

Discrete Headphone Amplifier: The NAD C 368 incorporates a discrete headphone amplifier with low output impedance and very high output voltage capability, enough to drive even high impedance studio monitor headphones. Connecting a set of headphone to unit's front-panel 1/4" jack will mute the speaker outputs. Volume, tone, and balance controls are all operable during headphone listening.

Line Outputs: The C 368 features a low impedance line-level stereo output that can connect to another other amplifier or powered subwoofer to extend the hybrid digital DAC amplifier's versatility. A 150Hz low-pass filter is activated when configured as a subwoofer out.

Tone Control: The NAD C 368 hybrid digital DAC amplifier lets you adjust Bass (60Hz) & Treble (20kHz) from -7 to +7dB, as well as Balance between the left & right speakers (L10 to R10).

Filters: Filters provide easy bi-amplification or subwoofer integration by adding the required filters to redirect bass frequencies to the subwoofer. Select High Pass or Full Range. When High Pass is selected, low pass audio signals up to 150Hz are sent to the C 368's subwoofer preout and high pass audio signals are sent to the C 368's amplifier section and speaker outputs. Select Full-Range to deliver audio signals with the whole frequency spectrum to the C 368's amplifier section and speaker outputs.

    Q
Using the line in or optical in, will it bypass the internal dac?
    deeeeee  Sep 22, 2023
    1 answer
    A
Greetings David. The source going into the line is already analog, you would not use the DAC in the C 368 at that point. Using the optical in the feed is all digital, then you would be using the DAC in the C 368.
    hogan  Sep 22, 2023 (Staff)
    Q
Can you bypass the dac portion but use the Bluetooth portion? I know that would not make sense for most people.

    Q
What is the height of the C 368 with the Bluetooth antenna installed? Thank you.
    dennis  May 30, 2023
    1 answer
    A
That is a great question, Dennis. The specs are not listed from NAD, sadly. It appears as though most Bluetooth antennas of this design are around the 3.5" in height (specs I could confirm) when attached and in the upright position. This would put total height in addition to the NAD's 4" at around the 7-8" mark roughly. If you are tight on space, you can always rotate the orientation of the antenna or adjust the angle to fit in tight spaces with little loss in connection performance. I hope this helps!

    Q
Could I run two pairs of 6 ohm speakers (JBL 530s) at the same time with this amp? I like to use one pair in one room and one in the adjoining room rather than cranking up the volume to hear music all over the house.

    A
Yes, it has two pairs of binding posts.
    paul  Aug 20, 2021
    A
Yes, you can run two sets of speakers with the C 368. There are speaker A and speaker B outputs that would let you connect one room to speaker A terminals and the other room to speaker B terminals. This would also let you turn off the room connected to speaker B if you ever wanted to only listen in the main room.

    Q
I have a Denon cassette deck from the late 1980s. I hooked it up to the line 1 input on the NAD C 368 integrated amplifier. It sounds great. Is there an output on the amp that I can use as an input on the cassette deck so I can record vinyl and CDs? The subwoofer output is variable and I have not tried it, because I read the it was controlled by the volume knob and variable not fixed. Any ideas? Thank you.

    Q
Does the remote have a balance contol?
    mark  Feb 15, 2021
    5 answers
    A
The remote does not have a "dedicated" balance button. The balance function can be easily accessed by the remote using the navigation/enter selector with 2 or 3 button pushes. IMO no more difficult to adjust with the remote than on the unit itself.
    scott  Feb 15, 2021
    A
You can control the balance with the remote through the settings main menu. Not very intuitive, but it can be done.

    Q
Can I add a preamplifier to my DAC C368 integrated amplifier?
    jerry  Feb 12, 2021
    5 answers
    A
Do you mean can you use the C368 as a preamplifier? Yes, there is a "pre out" connection. If you mean can you add a preamplifier, using the C368 as a power amplifier only, I don't see why not--you could just connect it to one of the RCA inputs. Some people say not to do that because you have two components in the signal chain that have volume control, which supposedly downgrades quality.
    michael  Feb 15, 2021
    A
Yes you plug in where it says pre out subwoofer. But you cant use both it is one or the other.
    keith  Feb 13, 2021
    A
Why do you need a pre-amp? It has 2 line-in and 1 phono input.
    eric  Feb 13, 2021
    A
Yes. I don't like the internal dac or the DAC in the BLUOS streaming module. I much prefer the DAC hooked up to my computer. I also wanted to try out tubes. I currently have My external DAC hooked up to a Schiit Freya+ preamp and am using the NAD C 368 as a power amp. The volume has much finer control on the NAD C 368 compared to the Schiit Freya +. I am using RCA output on the Freya + into one of the RCA inputs of the NAD. I have the PRE OUT of the NAD hooked up to a pair of subwoofers. I still use the NAD for volume & tone controls but now have that glorious tube sound with a much more expansive soundstage compared to internal DAC.

I had the same question about the C368. After buying an external amp and checking temperature by hand I didn't notice a difference so I don't think it's disabled. No measuring instruments were used and I don't know what other components in the C368 generate heat so this is based on simple observation.

The NAD C 368 uses the line out for either subwoofer or additional pairing of the C 268. If I pair the C 368 and C 268, does the C 268 then host a subwoofer out? Or is there no way to connect a sub at that point?

I'm pretty sure you would have to use an RCA Y split cable so you can send one set of outputs to the sub and one to the 268.

Can I bi-amp a pair of speakers with this amplifier?
    brandon  Jun 06, 2019

Brandon, Bi-amplification in simple terms generally means using 2 amplifiers (ideally alike) to drive a single speaker each. Maybe you are referring to Bi-wiring or possibly to "bridging" 2 amplifiers to increase output from what would then become known as a mono-block. And yes, the c368 integrated amp can be bridged.

I don't think so. I believe that would require the unit to have Pre-In terminals which it doesn't. I would suggest simply not using the 368's internal amplifier and "Pre-Out" to whatever amplifier configuration best serves your needs. I've had success in the past splitting Pre-Out signals via the use of Y-splitting RCA cables into various multiple amplifier configurations.

Hello Bradford B. I don't know if this answers your question but the pre out/subwoofer function allows you to switch the subwoofer section to a pre out for adding other amplifiers. The line outputs have very low impedance for connecting other amplifiers which possibly could be bi-amped!

Bradford I think you may be sending some mixed signals... no pun intended! Bi amplification in simple terms generally means using 2 amplifiers (ideally alike) to drive a single speaker each. Your question seems to be related to "bridging" 2 amplifiers to increase output from what would then become known as a mono-block. And yes, the c368 integrated amp can be bridged to the 268 amp.

You can configure the c-368 in (bridge mode) more than doubleing the output power and this way the c-368 can be used as part of a high-power stereo or home-theatre system by connecting additional power amplifiers!
    jeffrey lane  Jan 23, 2019

I don't feel any extra power is needed. This amp works great for my phono, CD, and streaming music. You can use two amps but it's a complicated process to sync them up (from what I understand). If you are really looking for a lot of power, I would recommend looking at some higher price tube amps.
    brian  Jan 22, 2019
    A
Understand that connecting a turntable directly to your NAD amp gives the best audio quality but it does take 25-40% more "volume knob" to drive phono. I don't mind cranking up my vinyl but I also keep them very clean. If you are satisfied with how your NAD drives the non-phono sources maybe consider adding a dedicated phono preamp with gain adjustments like one of the Pro-Ject tube models. You'll need to use an analog input on your NAD amp instead of the phono input. I would not recommend to use the NAD to preamp another amp unless it was another NAD. The outputs are so strong it's unlikely you need more power to the speakers. I would try the phono preamp with gain first.

can I play my computer hard drive or external hard drive through my computer via bluetooth into this NAD C368? My existing wired DAC Magic Plus is an asynchronous unit which preserves the highest music quality in this setup into my reciever, so will the C368 do the same wirelessly?

Charles, when I was in the market for a new amp I studied and read and studied and read. I chose the NAD C368 because of all the wonderful reviews and data. I found this amp to be very un-user-friendly. I struggled and struggled with it. I read, numerous times, and tried to understand the manual .. until finally gave up and returned it. I went with something else (Yamaha A-S801). I love it. And it's so user friendly that I had almost no need to even open the manual. Many will disagree with me on the NAD. Maybe I missed something that everyone else was able to understand. Choose wisely. Try the NAD. If you don't like it then I know you can count on the Yamaha A-S801. This is simply my thoughts on it.

You're on the right track for certain. The only option from here is to choose a playback option to supplement your library like Tidal. I personally am not a big fan of the Amarra's of the world but you may want to give it a go via a free trial. VOX is a good player too. Regardless, this unit is fantastic. I love the way it performs as a truly integrated package as opposed to separates and excessive cables...and cost!

In order to connect wirelessly you need to add the Bluesound OS module (which Crutchfield sells separately.) It's easy to install. It slides right in a rear panel. You don't need to worry about asynchronous because everything runs over your network. But you still need a program on your PC to see your music library and send it over to the NAD. I'm using roon. There's also Audirvana but there are probably free aps available. Bluesound has an app but I think its only for streaming.

knowing how variable volume levels are, speakers, room acoustics and a host of other things how high do you have to crank the knob to get it loud? meaning at what db level on the display does your ears start to bleed ? i only ask because i really want to get one of these and im a bit nervous because a few reviews seem to hint that you really have to crank it to get it loud whereas my old c315bee you barely turn the knob and its as loud as you need.

You have to crank the volume up quite a bit to get this loud. Depending on the source I i crank mine up to 40-45% to get 'decent' normal listen sound. It's relative but certainly not what you described with the c315bee. Hope this helps.

There is no DB display on this unit. It sounds satisfyingly loud from 10 o'clock on. Noon is really loud. One o'clock will blow you out of the room. Beyond that I am afraid of damaging my speakers. This is a powerful class AB amp like your old NAD. Unfortunately NAD has gone with a class D amp now that sounds rather distant and wimpy to me. This unit really puts out and engulfs you. It still sounds warm and not harsh with great depth and detail.

hello Tom! I don't know if this answer will help you but the NAD C-368 addresses continuous technological evolution which means that you can add optional MDC-MODULAR DESIGN CONSTRUCTION easily upgradable modules. The DDHDM-1 and the DDAP-1, The back of the amp has two slots where these can be installed. The HDM-1 offers three HDMI inputs and one HDMI output with video passthrough. With DDHDM-1 installed the C-368 can be the heart of a video 2.0 system using the mandatory 2 channel linear PCM soundtrack from blueray or dvd to make a compelling high definition theatre presentation. The DDHDM is fully 3d video compatible without surround sound decoding or video processing.
    jeffrey lane  Jan 18, 2018

Yes, you can connect your home theater to the analog or digital inputs on the NAD. There is no "bypass" setting, and the home theater will be treated as any other input source would. The NAD can run in blackout mode, so if your home theater can signal the NAD on/off then you'll have an excellent 2-channel amp back ending your system. I'd recommend the C368 for front L/R(/Sub), and add a smaller C328/316 if surround is desired. I've found the NADs are way more powerful than expected, easily shaking the house with my Klipsch.

I currently use a USB cable from my computer to a freestanding DAC connected to my amplifier. What is a "coaxial digital" connection? How would I connect my computer directly to this amplifiers DAC?
    james  Sep 29, 2017

    A
The 368 has Optical input, and SPDIF input via the coaxial digital input (which is basically a single RCA input that accepts digital signal.) Look on your DAC, you'll see it probably has those inputs as well. If your computer doesn't have those, then I'd recommend buying the BluOS MDC card. That allows the 368 to connect wirelessly to music stored on network devices (like a shared folder on your PC, or a NAS) and to stream from Spotify or Tidal.
    jesse  Sep 29, 2017

Currently my TV has optical digital (out) for audio as well as my AppleTV 3rd Gen. I have connected these outputs to the optical digital 1 and 2 on on the back of NAD 368C. My Bluray player has a coaxial digital out for audio which is connected to one of the 2 available coaxial digital inputs on the NAD 368C. Bottom line is that if your computer has a sound card with a digital out either coaxial or optical, you can send that audio directly to the NAD 368 C for processing and output through the connected speakers. If you are thinking that you need the freestanding DAC to receive digital input from your computers sound card, process it and send it to analog outputs in order to connect to the NAD 368, that is not necessary. However, it sounds like maybe you are using usb audio from a laptop computer. In this case, yes, you would need the DAC for the usb input and either coaxial or optical digital outputs. As I have mentioned already those outputs connect to the NAD's coaxial or optical digital inputs. Hope this answers your question.
