Advanced drivers for clean, well-balanced sound

The Imagine XC features a 1" titanium dome tweeter that effortlessly dishes out smooth, uncolored highs. Its two 5-1/4" woofers use an advanced clay/ceramic-filled polypropylene cone design. This stiff, lightweight material helps them deliver midrange that's clean and balanced, with surprisingly deep bass. It all adds up to distinct movie dialogue and impact-rich special effects that'll draw you into the on-screen action.

A Nice Complement to the PSB Lineup

Sean from NAUGATUCK, CT on 9/9/2019

It's a solid center channel speaker that pairs nicely with the other PSB speakers in my setup. During an ARC run, it surprised me, with it calculating its crossover point right at 50 Hz, right to the point where PSB lists its lowest frequency response point. It did take a little while to break in (I don't buy there being much of a break in required with electronic components, but speakers do actually seem to require it).

Pros: Solid frequency response, nicely voice matched to the rest of the PSB line, relatively compact (albeit deep)

Cons: None really

The XC is a very good center, a little smaller then I'd like but for movies and tv the dialogue is spot on.

Pros: Sound, build qty

These match great with my Image T6 tower speakers that I purchased from Crutchfield a few years back. Dialogue is clearer and stereo panning between this and the towers is more seamless than before.

Pros: Everything so far!

Cons: None

I had an older model PSB center channel that just didn't reproduce dialogue very well any more, and my Yamaha receiver set up noted it was undersized. So after consulting with an outstanding Crutchfield representative, I made the purchase to upgrade. Right out of the box there is an incredible improvement when watching cable, streaming and blue ray dvd:s. Service was great, and delivery was easy to track. And, I got a nice handwritten note from someone in the order dept. Happy in Hilton Head.

I was aggravated that the dialog from my old center speaker was not clear on some movies. I had a pair of old PSB Image B6 front speakers on hand from a sale, so I got the PSB Imagine XC to match them. I am very pleased with the clarity of the XC.

Pros: clear dialog

The PSB Imagine XC Center channel speaker is a great addition to my current setup with PSB's X2T as fronts and a Martin Logan Sub Dynamo 700w. I bought this center channel speaker to enhance the audio for movies. It seems to do well with dialogue imaging and clarity.

Pros: Good imaging and clarity.

Cons: Could have been smaller.

Couldn't Be Happier

DaveR from Ohio on 8/6/2015

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I am definitely not an audio expert but I was looking for the best sound on a tight budget. I think I got even more than I ever expected with the XC. I can now clearly hear voices on every show I watch without having to turn the center channel way up. Movies are an entirely new experience with the clearness/sharpness of the vocals. Music is crystal clear and packs a lot of punch now. I usually had my receiver on a certain volume setting for whatever I was doing (TV, movie, music, etc) I've noticed so much better sound at a much lower level of volume and when you really crank it up it only gets better! I do have to add how great it was to deal with Crutchfield on this purchase. I called in this order due to a few questions I had and I cannot tell you how friendly and helpful their team was to me during my order. The speaker was at my door within 2 business days and I received multiple emails with details every step of the way. These guys/gals get it right Every Time! Honestly could not be any happier with this purchase!

Pros: Crystal clear voices at much lower volume levels Great quality on finish and build - really feels solid Truly awesome performance at reasonable price

Cons: Still have not found any

Good speaker for the price

Coming from a 2.1 setup this center channel makes the dialogue much easier to understand in movies. It doesn't quite have the deep sound of the Definitive Technologies speakers which adds to the movie effects IMO. Still an excellent speaker for the price.

Pros: Clear voice dialogue

PSB XC Center

Great build quality. Dialogue is especially clear and natural. You can pay a lot more and get a lot less- an excellent value! A really great purchase for both movies and tv. I'm always wary of ported speakers should the speaker be placed close to a wall, but this is not the case here; no adverse effects at all.

Pros: Excellent build Superior sound quality, especially for the price Even if you have a "higher end" center channel, this could still be an upgrade!

Cons: The binding post ends apparently do not accept banana plugs, which have to be screwed in, a disappointment.

When I decided to upgrade from 2.0 to 5.1 configuration this PSB Imagine XC was a natural choice to match the sound and looks of my PSB Image T6 towers. I am not disappointed. Center channel sounds great and provides higher level of detail to movie dialogues. The instruments playing in center channel of 5.1 music mixes are rendered with realism I did not experience when using phantom center channel before getting this speaker. I bought it as "open box" with 10% discount but the package and speaker itself looked like new, so I am glad I saved some money.

Pros: Great sound.

Cons: Quite expensive in comparison to large tower speakers from the same speaker line (I noticed this to most center channel speakers from other manufacturers also).

PSB Imagine XC

I just got this as a replacement center channel speaker. I currently have a Yamaha VR 375 receiver, PSB Image T5's left and right, PSB Imagine XC center, and two SVS SB-2000 subwoofers. This speaker is replacing a PSB C4 center channel speaker that I got half off on Crutchfield back in July. I felt that a larger center channel would up the performance of my system. I decided on the PSB Imagine XC as I felt it would most closely match my T5's now that the C5 has been discontinued. After switching out the two speakers and re-running the YPAO calibration on my receiver, I noticed an immediate difference in clarity and realism of the center channel, particularly in voices. Things like glass breaking and whispers seem a lot more detailed also. It also seems that I don't have to turn up the volume as high to get really clear dialogue. I couldn't be happier.

Psb imagine XC center

JArias from Austin, TX on 11/12/2014

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I upgraded my front 2 speakers to image t5 towers. My old nht center didn't quite match up. The staging was there, but when sound would pan, it tended to get too trebly. The Yellow cones on the towers looked so good, I figured I probably needed to match them across the front. I ordered the center as an open box item and received it quickly. Set up was a snap, re ran audessy and good to go. Amazing sound. I guess what I like most about this Center is the amount of kick and mid Bass it provides. That, as well as with the other towers, the highs are incredible. Can play at high volumes without sounding tinny or Sharp on the ears. A definite upgrade from nht, which in their own right have always sounded good. Psb is simply better and more pleasing to my ears.

Pros: Great staging, clarity, power handling. Mid Bass will surprise you

Cons: None, as long as you are using other psb speakers

Features

2-Way Center-Channel Loudspeaker: The PSB Imagine XC is an attractive compact two-way center-channel loudspeaker featuring a 1" titanium dome tweeter flanked by two 5.25" injection-molded, clay/ceramic reinforced polypropylene woofers.

  • 1" Tweeter: The PSB Imagine XC features a 1" titanium dome tweeter with ferrofluid and a neodymium magnet structure for extended high frequency response that remains distortion free even at extreme volume levels.
  • 5.25" Woofers: The PSB Imagine XC houses two 5.25" injection-molded clay/ceramic reinforced polypropylene cone woofers with rubber surround that have been refined to improve stiffness, internal damping, and low mass. By optimizing the control and performance, the PSB engineering team was able to reduce the complexity of the crossover design.

Bass Reflex Cabinet: The PSB XC center-channel loudspeaker's critically tuned cabinet employs a rear-facing port for high sensitivity and extended bass response. A black ash wood-grain finish complements the slim cabinet to integrate seamlessly with almost any decor. A detachable cloth grille is also included.

NRC (Nation Research Council): Through many years of research at the National Research Council (NRC) in Canada, home to one of the world's most advanced acoustical laboratories, PSB's design team has learned not only what people love to hear, but also how they hear it in a room. Critical to the Imagine X series design is this research into human perception of sound using double-blind listening tests. Double-blind testing removes any listener bias to give us the most accurate test result. It allows PSB to understand what is most important to listeners and allows us to create the ideal blend of performance and price for every application. In 1974, PSB was the first company to use the NRC for loudspeaker development and remains the most active user of the facility today. PSB's experience with the NRC, how they interpret the data and implement it into the design of the Imagine X series speakers, gives PSB a real advantage in speaker design.

Mounting Options: The PSB XC center-channel loudspeaker comes with four self-adhesive rubber feet to protect your AV furniture, stand, or shelf. The rubber feet add 0.1875" to the height of the speaker. There are no threaded inserts, key-hole slots, or integrated bracket on the back of the speaker to mount it to a wall.

Applications: All PSB's Imagine X series speakers are carefully matched in timbre, giving you flexibility to combine any of the models to work together in many different rooms and system setups. The PSB Imagine XC can be used as a center-channel speaker in a 5.1 or 7.1 channel home theater system.
