iDatalink meets Chrysler

iDatalink's HRN-RR-CH1 wiring adapter allows you to connect a new car stereo in select 2007-up Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Mazda, Mitsubishi, and Volkswagen vehicles, working in conjunction with iDatalink's Maestro ADS-MRR module. Once connected, you'll retain the use of your steering wheel audio controls and your factory amp in these vehicles.

The package includes connectors that plug in between the Maestro module, your factory radio's wiring plugs, and your new car stereo. You'll have to solder or splice together this harness's power/ground, illumination, speaker, and navigation output wires to the corresponding wires on your aftermarket receiver's wiring harness.

Extra functionality with an iDatalink-ready car stereo

With select iDatalink-compatible radios from Alpine, JVC, Kenwood, and Pioneer (see the ADS-MRR module for specific models), you'll also be able to retain the use of your Uconnect system, including voice command.

Got a Rear Seat Entertainment system?

If you want to keep the factory Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) system, you can add iDatalink's ADS-HRN(AV)-CHR01 adapter (sold separately) to send audio and video from your new touchscreen receiver to the factory monitor.

Keeping your factory features with an iDatalink-ready car stereo

If you're buying a compatible iDatalink-ready car stereo, you'll enjoy the outstanding performance of your receiver, plus seamless touchscreen control over most of the factory features in select Chrysler-built vehicles. You'll also be able to display engine performance data and other vehicle info on your receiver's screen.

The iDatalink HRN-RR-CH1 Factory Integration Adapter greatly simplified the installation of my new radio into my 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Once joined to the new radio all I had to do was plug in to original factory connectors and was good to go. No need to splice factory wires and well worth the money.

Pros: Splicing factory wires is a thing of the past

Cons: Makes for a clean & professional installation.

Works, but had some issues

Brett from Meridian, ID on 7/20/2018

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

The HRN-RR-CH1 harness I ordered has/had an issue. When I hooked everything up to my head unit, the fade was reversed. When I would fade everything to the front on the head unit, I would only hear the stereo in the back. When I would fade to the rear, I would only hear the front. I made sure I connected everything according to the directions. I troubleshooted for hours and could not figure it out. Upon closer inspection of the harness, I realized the manufacturer made an error. There are two connectors that join the speaker leads. The front and back each have their own set (one green one white). I realized that the wire colors did not match up. So I switched the connectors and went green to white. That fixed the issue. It was a very frustrating experience.

Pros:

Cons:

Crutchfield response on 12/19/2018
Sorry for the frustrations, Brent. However, ADS actually designed these connectors to work this way. That way, this interface can accommodate both amplified and non-amplified factory systems without totally rewiring the speaker connections. The connection for your application is covered in instructions at the end of the flashing process for the module.

This harness works as well as it can. Note though that this harness is NOT plug and play. You are still required to connect together the ends of this harness to your specific radio harness. It isn't a difficult process, but just something to note if you are thinking this is 100% plug and play. The one issue I did run into though was with the wire lengths going to the Maestro module. The issue is that due to the design of the module, the wires of this harness need to connect to opposite sides of the module, this making the harness stretch awkwardly, and makes the fit awkward when hiding behind the dash. If the wires were longer (or the module designed to have all the ports on one side), then this would have fit better. But in the end it is still usable and does what it is designed to do.

Easy to wire this up to my new Pioneer AVIC-8201NEX system. Suggest doing this wiring at a table or workbench prior to sitting in your vehicle hoping to match up wires. Love the integration with the OBDII port, which allows for access to vehicle features, like manifold pressure or tire pressures. Would definitely purchase this again.

Pros: Easy to wire Helps with plug and play functionality

Cons: There's a lot of wiring to match up

Great solution to plug straight into your factory harness. I'm pretty tech savvy and didn't have any issues. However, there were a couple of wires where the colors matched between this harness and the new radio harness but they weren't the same function. If I didn't pay attention to this fact, I would have wired them together based on the instructions. The biggest one for me was a yellow/black mute wire on Pioneer head unit that had a different function on the CH1 harness.

Pros:

Cons: -Don't just color match wires because it may mess you up.

It does make connecting to the factory harness a much easier job. However, it did not add any new functionality on my Ram. I called their tech support and they told me it only adds features if your Ram steering wheel has audio controls. This is not stated anywhere when ordering it.

A requirement for Chrysler cars with maestro rr

Robyn from Philadelphia, PA on 1/29/2017

2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I have a 2015 jeep wrangler. Of course, the factory stereo left much to be improved. I decided to replace it with an alpine head unit. Since this car has a built-in amplifier and steering wheel controls, you have to have an adapter to translate and make the new aftermarket radio compatible. I decided to use the Idatalink maestro rr. At the time that I bought it, they didn't have this harness in stock. So, I came to Crutchfield. I ordered it and had it in my hands the next day for the same price that the other people wanted! This harness is an absolute requirement to use the maestro rr in this car. I still had to Soulder and shrink wrap everything together, but it worked the first time. Very happy with my purchase!

Pros: It worked the first time. No need to rip it out and make changes.

Cons: Still had to Soulder and shrinkwrap

This harness works great for my application(2011 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon w/Amp). Connected to my Jenwood harness with color matching wires. I paired this with an iDatalink Maestro RR and was able to retain my factory steering wheel controls and will also display vehicle data like tire pressure etc. I gave this a 4 star because the instructions were available but was not clear as I had to figure out a few cables that were provided, but not mentioned as part of the installation. Other than that, great product.

Pros: Integrated factory controls (steering wheel controls, vehicle data)

Cons: Instructions not clear, several unused connectors made installation seem incomplete

Instructions were crystal clear, I was wired up in about 30 minutes and ready to connect up my new head unit.

Pros: Very detailed and clear instructions are included. Most wires were exactly color coded to match the after market radio harness.

Cons: In some installs you'll need to vary from the instructions to suit your individual needs, but customer service will be quick to help

The maestro and idatalink come with a lot of wires. I had a hard time figuring out which wires you needed and which wires you did not need. I talked to Crutchfield support and they clarified which wires I needed to solder and that made it much easier. Lots of extra wires.

Pros: easy once you figure out the wiring diagram is the only wires you need

Cons: lots of extra wires between the maestro and idata link

The harness fit well, and with the exception of 4 wires everything matched up. In fairness the blue/white wire was a Pioneer problem because of the label on the wire. But there was a brown and yellow/black that need to be explained. Which meant a call to Crutchfield and they answered it right away. So, it's not like it can't be included in the instructions.

Pros: good product fit well

Cons: instructions incomplete

Not a standalone product.

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I bought this to swap an aftermarket stereo to my 2015 Jeep only to discover that this wasn't a standalone product and I would need an $189 interface module from the same company in order to even make the unit power up. In reality I just wanted my aftermarket radio to work; I wasn't concerned with steering wheel controls and factory uconnect support. I just wanted it to work. But for the price of the harness and interface together is more than the radio I wanted to replace it with. They have a very detailed website so make sure you check exactly what you need specifically for your auto because only this was listed and it is useless without the interface in most late model vehicles.

Pros: Harness fits flawlessly.

Cons: Extra peripherals needed to make the harness work. $189 dollars worth.

Very straight forward, decent design clearly marked easy install, remember this is only the connection point you still need ( in my case the M-RR unit) the hardware, and don't forget the antenna adapter Chrysler uses a funny one I had to get mine for a 12 jeep wrangler to make everything work right. but otherwise would recommend and buy again if the need arose.

Pros: simple, straight forward, clear instruction.

Cons: only part of the system if you want to use oe amp and steering controls

I found the instructions clear and that made the work I had to do much easier.Take your time and you will be satisfied with the results..

This works. I had an undocumented wire. Tech support was great (not 24 hours) and said to simply not use it. I then had a whole plug with 3 wires that didn't go anywhere. Ignored it and everything works fine. All the wire colors match the Kenwood wire harness. It would be awesome if they took the next step and sent this with the right radio plug. Even if it came with plugs on the ends of the wires and the radio plug was separate. It would save soldering two 16 plus wire harnesses together. Also makes it a lot to cram in behind the dash.

Pros: Works. Wire colors match. Documentation is 98%

Cons: Some undocumented wires. Lots of soldering. Tech support is not 24 hours.

Great harness i recommend the idatalink meastro harness to everyone. There easy to wire up and install. Also allows you to retain pretty much everything and add stuff. They work great i used them in a 3 of my vehicles. The think i really like is if you have steering wheel controls for your volume and seek for your stereo you can change them to do ither things like mute change folder etc. Other harnesses dont allow you to do that. They are bulky but that doesnt bother me but can be tough if you dont have alot of room behind your stereo. Other then that nothing but good things to say.

Pros: Everything

Cons: A bit bulky

Q
Will this work with the factory hard drive?
[ George H  Jun 16, 2018 ]
1 answer
A
Factory hard drives are not a feature retained by the iDatalink Maestro integration module or it's compatible harnesses (like this HRN-RR-CH1).

Q
So I have bought the idatalink wiring harness. I don't need the module in order for my aftermarket radio to retain the factory steering wheel audio controls right? It says it lets you connect an aftermarket radio and retain the factory audio controls.

The ability to retain steering wheel controls with aftermarket receivers will be determined by the receiver you are using and the vehicle you have. For full information on this type of integration (including the parts you will need) please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Q
My 2010 Ram currently has steering wheel controls and Sirius radio. I see in the iDatalink item description that is retains steering wheel control and satellite radio so I'm wondering if when upgrading to a Pioneer do I need to purchase a Sirius tuner to continue to get satellite radio?

Sorry for the delay. Most times the factory unit may not be compatible with an aftermarket radio or may have a proprietary connector to match the factory system. If you have further questions I would recommend contacting an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Hi, Thanks for your question. The receivers are sold as "Satellite Radio Ready" or not equipped. For the compatible receivers you would still need the separate tuner. Most receivers have a mail in rebate with the purchase of the tuner. The cost of the tuner ends up being Zero after the rebate. Hope this helps.

Will this fit a 07 wrangler x 2dr without factory sub or steering wheel controls?

I think it's purpose is to allow you to use the steering wheel controls. I installed mine over a year ago. Works pretty good. Not totally sure though.
