About the iDatalink KIT-FOC1 Dash and Wiring Kit

Bob Bihlmayer

Install a new radio in your Focus

You bought a 2012-18 Ford Focus — it's a great vehicle, but its dashboard makes it difficult to upgrade the factory radio. The iDatalink KIT-FOC1 factory system adapter (along with the Maestro ADS-MRR module, sold separately) gives you everything you need to install an aftermarket double-DIN (4" tall) stereo and wire it up to your Focus. With any car stereo, this package retains your backup camera (if equipped), along with your steering wheel audio controls.

iDatalink to the rescue

Install an iDatalink-compatible car stereo from Alpine, JVC, Kenwood, Sony, or Pioneer, and you'll also retain your car's SYNC features, including hands-free calling and music streaming. You'll also retain the fader control and full functionality of your factory amplifier, along with your rear seat entertainment system (if present). Your climate controls will appear on your new car stereo's touchscreen, and you can set up gauges to check engine performance and other vehicle data, such as tire pressure, battery voltage, and "door ajar" warnings. You'll be able to choose which gauges you'd like to appear on the screen, and you'll even be able to check the engine codes when a warning light comes on.

Features

Vehicle Compatibility: The iDatalink Maestro KIT-FOC1 consists of an OEM integration dash kit and vehicle harness designed specifically for select 2012-2018 Ford Focus vehicles. The KIT-FOC1 lets you replace the factory radio with an iDatalink Serial Port compatible head unit using the Maestro RR or RR2 Car Radio Replacement Interface module (sold separately).

  • Click here for a list of compatible Ford Focus models.
  • Click here for a list of compatible aftermarket radios with an iDatalink Serial Port.
Note: The iDatalink Maestro KIT-FOC1 requires the purchase of the iDatalink Maestro RR or RR2 (sold separately) and the download of a vehicle specific firmware from iDatalink's Weblink Desktop (for Windows and Mac).

Head Unit Connection: The KIT-FOC1 supports iDatalink's Direct T-Harnesses (sold separately) for direct connection to select iDatalink Serial Port compatible head units (including Kenwood, JVC, Alpine, Sony, and Pioneer radios) - replacing the wiring harness that comes with your aftermarket stereo (some hardwiring may still be required). If connecting to an aftermarket head unit that does not support an iDatalink Direct T-Harness, you'll need to cut off and remove the 20-pin black connector from the KIT-FOC1's harness and splice each wire directly to the aftermarket radio's corresponding wire.

Flashing Module via Weblink Desktop: The iDatalink Maestro RR or RR2 will need to be loaded with correct firmware before installation. The included USB cable plugs into your computer and allows you to "flash" the Maestro RR or RR2 with the appropriate firmware to prepare it for installation. Simply download Weblink Desktop (for Windows and Mac) onto your computer to access the appropriate firmware. System requirements include -

  • Windows PC (10/8.1/8/7/Vista/XP/2000) or Mac OS X (Mojave [10.14], HighSierra [10.13], Sierra [10.12], El-Capitan [10.11])
  • Available USB port (version 2.0 or 3.0)

  • 200MB available space on HDD
  • Internet connection

OEM Grade Fit & Finish Kit: The KIT-FOC1 OEM integration kit features a factory grade fit & finish to match the contour and color of your vehicle's dash. In addition, the KIT-FOC1 comes with a convenient storage pocket to keep your smartphone device. Steering wheel volume control and skip select buttons wont work, whats missing?

Greetings Michael, and thank you for your question. That Idatalink Kit is not all you need. You also need their MRR, or MRR2 programmable module. When you have all the install gear, then you need to run the programing to flash the MRR/MRR2.

Will a Pioneer 7" screen fit with this bezel?

I know I got the dog-1500-nex in mine and it fit perfectly. You will have to adjust the depth with the radio brackets.

Will this also work with single DIN head units like the Alpine Halo9 ILX-F309?

I honestly don't know . I didn't see any brackets to install a single din . We installed a double din . But I think The Crutchfield team will steer you in the right direction with a kit for you providing the correct info.

It's a double din opening. It will fit the larger stereos.

I have problems with my current bluetooth and sync constantly disconnecting. Did getting an aftermarket radio have a better bluetooth connection than sync?

Yes I've had numerous problems out of sync with factory radio with Bluetooth I switched to an after market and it's loads easier. Sometimes you have to manually connect it but no issues with it disconnecting. But forget sync on your phone or they will counteract each other. I recommend the idata link kit it's more expensive but worth it
kenneth  Aug 22, 2019

I can't really speak for Sync bluetooth connectivity, since I only used it for about a month before upgrading my stereo two years ago, but I've never had a problem with either of my aftermarket radios. Previously I had an Alpine CDE-W264BT which was great, but the Metra dash kit and wiring harnesses were absolute trash. I upgraded to this, and wanted an idatalink compatible radio so I bought the Kenwood DDX276BT. I've had it for about three weeks now and the bluetooth works great.

Q
Will this work on my focus st with sync2?

A
Partially. I was able to hot wire the hazards and backup camera. Steering wheel controls dont work, nor does the automatic parking or collision system.
leland  Aug 05, 2019
A
It did for me, but without the small screen it's hard to use the Sync 2 features anymore. I ended up unpairing all the phones. Once the new head unit was in place, Apple CarPlay did much more than Sync2 anyway.
cecil  Aug 05, 2019
A
Yes but only on the Focus St1 package. If you have the touch screen it won't work.
aaron  Aug 05, 2019

Hello! I purchased this kit along with the IDATALINK Meistro RR module. The kit does not include the module which will have to be purchased separately. You can retain Sync with the module . Make sure the Head unit you purchase has an IDATALINK port and you programmed the module correctly. On a side note with a pioneer W8400NEX Sync was glitchy. If you plan on ditching Sync turn it off on the stock radio before installing the new unit and unpair it from your phone as the new radio and Sync will have 2 different bluetooth connections. Your mileage may vary depending on retaining climate controls as my car did not have automatic climate zones.
