About the iDatalink KIT-MFT1 Dash and Wiring Kit

Bob Bihlmayer

Install a new radio in your Ford

Your 2011-21 Ford is a great vehicle, but its dashboard makes it difficult to upgrade the factory radio. The iDatalink KIT-MFT1 factory system adapter (along with the Maestro ADS-MRR module, sold separately) gives you everything you need to install an iDatalink-ready double-DIN (4" tall) car stereo and wire it up to your Ford vehicle with its "My Ford Touch" radio. This package retains your amplifier and backup camera (if equipped), along with your steering wheel audio controls.

iDatalink to the rescue

The package includes a replacement media hub which provides 2 USB ports — one USB-A and one USB-C. You'll also retain the fader control and full functionality of your factory amplifier, as well as your rear-seat entertainment system (if present). You can set up gauges on your new car stereo's touchscreen to check engine performance and other vehicle data, such as tire pressure, battery voltage, and "door ajar" warnings, and you'll even be able to check the engine codes when a warning light comes on. The module also allows you to access the vehicle's factory settings to control customization options for lighting, door locks, and other features.

Product Research

Features

MyFord Touch OEM Integration Dash Kit & Vehicle Harness: The iDatalink Maestro KIT-MFT1 consists of a dash kit, vehicle harness, and adapters designed specifically for select 2011-up Ford Edge, Expedition, Explorer, F-Series, Flex, Fusion, Mustang, Taurus model vehicles equipped with Ford's MyFord Touch factory radio. In combination with the iDatalink Maestro RR or RR2 Car Radio Replacement Interface module (sold separately), the KIT-MFT1 lets you replace your compatible Ford vehicle's MyFord Touch radio with an aftermarket Alpine, JVC, Kenwood, Sony, or Pioneer receiver equipped with the iDatalink Serial Port.

  • Vehicle Compatibility: Click here for a list of compatible 2011-up Ford vehicles with the MyFord Touch radio.
  • Radio Compatibility: Click here for a list of compatible aftermarket radios with an iDatalink Serial Port.

Note: The iDatalink Maestro KIT-MFT1 requires the purchase of the iDatalink Maestro RR or RR2 (sold separately) and the download of a vehicle specific firmware from iDatalink's Weblink Desktop (for Windows and Mac).

Head Unit Connection: The KIT-MFT1 supports iDatalink's Direct T-Harnesses (sold separately) for direct connection to select iDatalink Serial Port compatible head units (including Kenwood, JVC, Alpine, Sony, and Pioneer radios) - replacing the wiring harness that comes with your aftermarket stereo (some hardwiring may still be required). If connecting to an aftermarket head unit that does not support an iDatalink Direct T-Harness, you'll need to cut off and remove the 20-pin black connector from the KIT-MFT1's harness and splice each wire directly to the aftermarket radio's corresponding wire.

Flashing Module via Weblink Desktop: The iDatalink Maestro RR or RR2 will need to be loaded with correct firmware before installation. The included USB cable plugs into your computer and allows you to "flash" the Maestro RR with the appropriate firmware to prepare it for installation. Simply download Weblink Desktop (for Windows and Mac) onto your computer to access the appropriate firmware. System requirements include -

  • Windows PC (10/8.1/8/7/Vista/XP/2000) or Mac OS X (Mojave [10.14], HighSierra [10.13], Sierra [10.12], El-Capitan [10.11])
  • Available USB port (version 2.0 or 3.0)
  • 4GB RAM or more
  • 200MB available space on HDD
  • Internet connection

Dash Kit: The iDatalink Maestro KIT-MFT1 includes a black ABS trim-panel and four sturdy metal brackets to mount a compatible double-DIN Alpine, JVC, Kenwood, Sony, or Pioneer receiver equipped with the iDatalink Serial Port.

Retained Factory Features: The following factory features (if applicable) are retained when replacing your factory radio with a compatible iDatalink Serial Port head unit from Alpine, JVC, Kenwood, Sony, or Pioneer using the Maestro RR or RR2 Car Radio Replacement Interface module and the KIT-MFT1 installation package.

  • Factory Amplifier: Retains premiun Sony factory amplifier with turn-on. However, fader control will be lost.
  • Climate Display & Control: The factory climate display and control can be accessed from the touchscreen of your compatible iDatalink aftemarket head unit.
  • Vehicle Settings: Access and modify factory vehicle settings through the compatible aftermarket head unit's touchscreen.
  • Secondary Vehicle Display: Secondary vehicle display is retained (if factory equipped) with audio information, hands-free information, and internal navigation.
  • Steering Wheel Controls: Factory steering wheel controls are retained with two function buttons and expandable radio functions.
  • Advanced Camera Features: Factory backup camera is retained with parking guidelines, as well the factory 360 camera. If you add an aftermarket front and/or side cameras (sold separately) to your idatalink compatible head unit that is equipped with multiple camera inputs, the vehicle's factory auto camera switching feature is also retained.
  • Warning Chimes: Factory warning chimes are retained through the use of the KITMFT1 installation kit.

USB Module: The KIT-MFT1 comes with a media module that consists of two USB ports; one USB-A port and one USB-C port. The USB module replaces the factory media module and installs in the dash to provide easy access to your compatible iDatalink receiver's rear-panel USB-A and/or USB-C port. The media module features one 6' USB-A extension cable and one 6' USB-C extension cable that will plug into the corresponding port on the back of your iDatalink compatible receiver.

Note: As long as your new aftermarekt receiver has a high-amperage charging port (1.5A or greater), the USB module should support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto operation. However, the number of variables involved means we can't guarantee compatibility.

Extra Features: The following Extra features are added when replacing your aftermarket head unit with a compatible iDatalink Serial Port head unit from Kenwood, JVC, Pioneer, Sony, or Alpine using the Maestro RR or RR2 Car Radio Replacement Interface module and KIT-MFT1 installation kit.

  • Vehicle Info: Tire Pressure Display, Battery Voltage Display, Read/Reset Engine Codes, and Door Open Status with Warning.
  • Gauges: Selectable Performance Gauges, "Track Pack" Gauges, and Read/Reset Check Engine Codes.

Outputs: The KIT-MFT1 provides Navigation, Accessory Power, and Illumination Outputs to make installation simpler.

  • Navigation: Parking Brake, Reverse Light, and VSS (Vehicle Speed Sense).
  • Accessory Power Output: 12V/15A Accessory Power Output
  • Illumination Output: Illumination Output

Q
So it retains the back up camera but does it retain the back up sensors? Meaning it will beep as your backing up close to something.
dig  Mar 12, 2023

A
It is very likely that the parking assist sensors/chimes can be retained. However, our advisors can check for your specific Ford vehicle, just to be sure. You may reach us via online chat or phone at 1-800-324-9695.

We are still waiting on an ETA from iDatalink, no word yet on when we may expect to see them in our warehouse. Once we do have a more definitive response we will update the product page with the ETA.

Q
Hello, I have a 2020 Ford Ranger XLS (Australian model) with the 8inch Sync 3 Basic with no climate control for example. Will this work in conjunction with a Maestro RR kit to retain sensors, camera and steering controls with an aftermarket head unit such as Alpine ILX-F309E? Thank you

I don't know specifics regarding your particular vehicle but I used this kit along with a Maestro RR kit to install a Kenwood Double DIN in my 2018 F150 XL. My truck is also pretty basic with manual A/C controls. This kit and the Maestro allowed me to retain use of my steering wheel controls, my dash mounted factory volume knob, and the factory rear view camera in the truck tailgate. I was not able to use my trucks stock headliner microphone with my Kenwood. I had to install the Kenwood's aftermarket style headphone which I stuck in the plastic trim near the sun visor. The Sync 3 system is pretty much gone with my setup which is fine with me. The only thing I have noticed is my instrument cluster compass no longer works as that was processed using the Sync system. I mostly use Google Maps on my Kenwood headunit so its not biggie.

Hi, I have 2014 F250 with oem 8 inch sony sync2 premium system, and year ago when I try to find information about same stuff, I can't, but take risks and was successful. Everything works perfectly, camera, climate control, sensors, tire pressure, steering wheel control, no issue. I even make setup to use hdmi outlet to for maps when I driving and works without oem subwoofer and amplifier, I use JL amp and two 10inch shallow pioneer sub under rear seat on floor with custom 2in seat spacers. I think if maestro link shows capabilities for your truck, and gives all info what wire harness you need, then do. Have fun ??

Q
Is there any way to buy the HDMI/USB/AUX adapter separate? Is there an item number for it
pierre  Oct 21, 2021

A
Crutchfield doesn't carry the item, but if you google Ford Media Hub, you'll find options.

Q
Do i have to retain the factory Sony amps with this? Can the aftermarket receiver RCA outputs just go straight to a new aftermarket amp for speakers?
dillon  Mar 21, 2021
2 answers
A
You do not have to retain the factory sony amps with this. the Idatalink Software will ask you if you are going to keep the sony hardware. I went straight to my own dsp and amps completely bypassing the factory sound system.
salvador  Mar 22, 2021
A
No idea but everything I run is aftermarket

Q
Can this kit work with Rockford Fosgate's DSR1?
jose  Sep 26, 2020
1 answer
A
You sure can because this kit is used to install an iDatalink compatible aftermarket radio. You can get one that has preamp outputs which can be used to get the audio into the DSR1

Can I buy the kit without the ADS-MRR module if I'm not worried about keeping steering wheel functions?
eddie  Jul 23, 2020

You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

Is there a version of this that allows installation of a single DIN stereo like the new floating screens that Alpine and Pioneer have out?

Yes is allows to install, I install Alpine ilx-309 to my f250 2014 replaced OEM 8" Sony head unit, without any problems or modifications

Q
I used this kit to install a Kenwood Double Din in my 2018 XL but now I get interference on my backup camera. Anyone else?
arturo  May 21, 2020
2 answers
A
Yes if you mean the screen is fuzzy. Cameras have to get a good ground to be clear. Now its going through the RR so that adds something to the system. Changing the efficiency of the ground. If you can identify the ground on the camera RCA (Crutchfield or IdataLink may be able to help you if you cant). Then splice in to it and go straight to a good ground or find the ground wire at the camera itself and go straight to ground the picture should clear up. If not I suggest a new camera but I bet the ground is the issue. Hope this helps!
james  May 22, 2020
A
I did not have any problems. Works great. I do know that the ford cameras have issues. If it is glitching out it may be a camera problem. I had to replace mine a while back for that issue.

Q
What size double din will fit in this adapter??????
julio  May 12, 2020
2 answers
A
Any, as long as you have the space behind it. My mustang had Very Little Space so I had to do A LOT of trimming to make a standard Kenwood Fit.
salvador  May 12, 2020
A
I believe all double Din are the same size in width and height but vary in depth... I bought it for the Kenwood 960S and it fit perfect.
rick  May 12, 2020
Q
will this fit a 2019 mustang with a 4inch screen?
sean  Mar 22, 2020
2 answers
A
Probably not but also not certain. I put it in a 2017 Ford F150 that had the 8" screen and it worked great. For my truck, I would have had to get an entirely new bezel if it had the 4" screen.
rick  Mar 23, 2020
A
No. The 4 inch model had a different bezel and wiring harness
salvador  Mar 22, 2020
Q
Do you retain the factory radio controls on the dash for volume, presets, etc.?
craig  Feb 04, 2020

Yes, although this will depend largely on your vehicle. For details on installation please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on what you will need for an installation.

Idata's site says the MFT1 fits all 2019 F150. Crutchfield says it is not compatible... which is it?

I think I ordered that for my 2019 Ford Mustang. Don't know if it compatible with your vehicle
jimmie  Feb 29, 2020
A
I think it depends on if you have the large or small screen in your 2019 F150. If you have the small screen, it will not work.
